washington review. listen, this is not a poll about approval of president obama's performance. this is a poll about what people saw in 2014 to make them feel there was an improvement and i say lower gas prices. i am sure the president will take the credit. >> he will. that will be the focus of his state of the union tonight. he will say the economy is doing better and here are plans we need to look at to make sure it keeps doing better and keeps improving for the middle class. a big part of why the general public is more optimistic about the economy is something like that. look at the drop in gas prices and the decline in unemployment, maybe things are on the up. none of them actually say everyone thinks of the economy as doing particularly well just saying general american public is more optimistic than they have been in the past. politically it would be a mistake for the obama administration not to capitalize on that sentiment and take the

credit for that public optimism. stuart: i want your sense of where the country is. the president is going to state tax the rich and we will help the middle class. how many people believe taxing the rich does raise up the middle class? >> that is the thing that will be interesting to see you look at this:in the majority of american say we think the economy is on the way toward being better but these polls don't think washington is responsible for it, either republicans or democrats so that is the challenge the administration has, convincing people to feel more optimistic about the economy that is because of washington most people are looking at washington in general and saying it is a dysfunctional that is not working and they may think the economy is swinging upward but they don't think washington gets the credit for it. stuart: i don't think any of the president's proposals will make it through congress, do you? >> i would be surprised to see the majority of the maker. the only one he has announced so far which the state of the union is interesting and has laid out

sorry for the irs. there but that has been cut. the post editorial says this is deeply irrational and the most recent budget cuts should be reversed. i don't know about you but i am not inclined to go along with this. the tax collector has a job to do end needs money to do it but the tax collectors must be non political. they -- the irs under president obama is anything but non-political. the fact is they harassed conservatives during the 2012 presidential campaign. the machinery of government was used to attack the president's opponents. that is a disgrace. of the irs admitted what it had done i would be satisfied but why our officials stonewalled, and it was too lost. i don't feel sorry for the irs waiting for the truth.
