yourself that. because mike says that isis is telling us something different. >> they are now on the verge, this ragtag army of misfits. they are now on the verge of taking over a country. >> the response so far which has some impact, but not what we need, they have a three-day summit on extremism and general terms at the white house. with community organizers and educators, trying to he how we can bring them to the table. so there is an enormous disconnect between what is happening in the real world and how the white house actually use it or is dash or is spinning it to the rest of the world. what we have in libya is a hot mess. and it has been evolving.

it rarely makes the headlines because of all the other messes that are taking place out there. but now with the islamic states successes moving into libya, what do they get from that remap well, if they are successful they get an entire nation. but they get a tremendous amount of armaments and weapons that have been flowing into libya and used by all the various militias ever since the downfall of qadhafi and they get this proximity to europe. neil: what would they do it that? as a former cia guy, what is your big fear remap what does this give a group like this and what it would do after this? >> they already have a country an enormous swath of syria and iraq which are really not countries anymore. they are battle zones. but if they expand their

presence into libya, that is what this is all about. it's not as if the idea of a caliphate is a small territory and you call it good. it is an expanding and ever-growing empire and we shouldn't rule our eyes and think that that is just old stories and this is what they believe and so when they send a video and talk about marching into italy, they are saying we are ready to contribute troops to a u.n. led mission in libya and that is an enormous step. >> it's sort of like the bad guys have amassed this army and they force that is much bigger than anyone thought and we are just waking up to the reality of that. >> that's right. the italians can't do this. let's say they talk about contributing these 5000 troops

to a u.n. effort. that's about all they've got. at a time when we have been in the u.s. we have been looking from the administration's perspective to disengage from the world stage and allow somebody else to take charge, at the same time is they have been producing military spending over the past recent years while all of that is going on we are facing a digger threat than we have been facing for years and years. neil: mike baker. as he pointed out the homeland security expert on what we can make sure that we are not. but the more and more that i hear those in power, sort of officially dismissing isis even as we get more blatant examples of isis acuity more power and butchery and i don't know if we are up to the task.
