follow me on twitter north facebook said in a sharp knife is the key. man. keep it right here on fox business. . lou: good evening, everybody. i'm lou dobbs. two days ago president obama urged the american people to trust him to make a good nuclear deal with iran. but today we learned many of our allies in the middle east side with israeli prime minister netanyahu's view of iran, not the presidents and mr. obama has the secretary of state out selling hard in the region. the secretary of state spent the day in saudi arabia. they're trying to convince the foreign ministers of saudi arabia, bahrain, kuwait, oman, qatar, the united arab emirates that they can trust mr. obama

and the nuclear weapon deal that's near the deal with iran. isn't planning a so-called grand bargain with iran. all the countries represented with the meeting at kerry are sunni all keenly concerned about shia iran producing a nuclear bomb. we take up the troubling elements of the deal. house intelligence committee member len westmoreland is here, and the islamic state engaging in act of defiance. setting fire to oil wells trying to slow the joint iraqi and iranian offensive against them. this on the same day that libya accuses the radical islamist terrorists of attacking, looting sabotaging and destroying 11 of their oil fields. former nato supreme allied commander admiral james stavridis joins us. we'll be taking up the islamic state threat, and we'll have

the latest for you on ukraine. and the clinton e-mail scandal. the white house claims they did not know she was using only her personal e-mail account during her entire tenure as secretary of state. and did the administration really learn about the clinton scandal through news reports again? just like the va scandal? just like the irs targeting scandal? just like operation fast and furious? is that what's called a pattern of behavior? bad behavior. we'll examine that here tonight. we begin in riyadh where secretary kerry tried to convince anxious gulf leaders that a deal with iran is in their self interest. kerry said quote -- joining us tonight congressman len westmoreland, member of the house intelligence committee, the benghazi select committee and the financial services

committee. congressman good to have you here. >> thanks for having me lou. lou: this deal. while in saudi arabia secretary kerry is selling sunni arabs that shia domination will continue and there is nothing for them to fear at the prospect of iran having a nuclear bomb in a decade. >> you know, secretary kerry over there telling the saudi foreign minister al-shimani that it's like jack kevorkian coming to hospital room telling you he's going to be okay. they don't believe him. and why should they? and like you said, that's a sunni nation and with the shias, from iran, in fact, the foreign minister said he said this is what we were afraid of. and all we can tell them is trust me so i think what a

speech that prime minister netanyahu gave. i mean 37 standing ovations. the last one for 3 1/2 minutes. i think the american people stand with israel, and we do not need a bad deal, and as the prime minister said you know, we used to say the enemy of your enemy is your friend. in this case the enemy of our enemy is our enemy. lou: and amongst those enemies of course preeminently is iran itself, leading the offensive in tikrit, against the islamic state dominating two-thirds of the force shia militia, al kut's force and the united states continues to lead from behind in effect it is invisible right now in its presence in the middle east. >> i think it's an indication

that the baghdad government does not have any confidence in us. we sent some advisers over there we sent some people to train their forces. the iranians with this general that has been with the revolutionary front, and i mean, there's 30,000 strong going into kirkuk. they put their money where their mouth is. i think the baghdad government gave up on the fact we were never going to put boots on the ground over there to help. lou: turning to the sect committee on benghazi. secretary of state clinton, by day, by day it gets worse and worse on this e-mail scandal. what do you make of it, and what can your committee do to secure e-mails like the

benghazi investigation. >> well, the thing about it is she tweeted that she wanted the state department to release all of her e-mails. well, we want to know where all of her e-mails are at? and you know she had her own server, she had the clinton.com e-mail address, and we don't know, and so we are sure, chairman gowdy made it quite clear to the members of the committee and the staff that we're going to find out where these e-mails are at and how far they go back. the other thing is that this about a year ago, i guess, or maybe two she put it on the backup server at google after it had been reported that the chinese had broken into the google server, so we don't know how many e-mails there were they're going to give us a bunch of them, that doesn't mean it's all of them.

lou: very quickly, congressman. congressman gowdy had said that she would be brought to testify before the committee. he has also promised experience. will she, in fact be called to testify. >> that's up to chairman gowdy, but i would say it's a very good chance. what the chairman is trying to do is just to have her in one time and get all the information as any good attorney would do to have all the information before you bring the witness in. that's what chairman goudy wanted to do so she wouldn't have to make two trips. they're going to drag their feet along enough that she'll announce for the presidency, and it will become, oh, this is a political thing. she owes more to the american people than just about benghazi. this is about her actions for four years having two personal e-mail accounts and not putting it on the state, as required by law.

lou: and all of this coming to light 2 1/2 years after that terrorist attack against our consulate. congressman, it's great to have you with us. appreciate your time. congressman lynn westmoreland. >> thank you. lou: attorneys for the parents of michael brown will be pursuing a civil lawsuit seek financial damages in the shooting death that led to riots and demonstrations around the country. filing a wrongful death lawsuit against ferguson, missouri police and police officer darren wilson. the announcement a day after the justice department cleared officer wilson in brown's shooting. >> the burden of proof for the federal and the state investigation is far different than a burden of proof in a civil case that we anticipate bringing on on behalf of the family in a wrongful death case. and we do want to announce today we are officially in a process of formulating a civil case that we anticipate will be

filed very shortly on behalf of the family. lou: yesterday's justice department report said there was not enough evidence to support a prosecution of wilson for federal civil rights offenses. but outgoing attorney general eric holder seemingly seeking to gift family helpful cover when he said this. >> and, of course, violence is never justified, but seeing in this context, amid a highly toxic environment, defined by mistrust and resentment stoked by years of bad feelings and spurred by illegal and misguided practices, it's not difficult to imagine how a single tragic incident set off the city of ferguson like a powder keg. lou: a fox news analyst lis wiehl telling us remarks like that will help the brown family case. she said, quote --

there appear to be no coincidences and racial politics as practiced by this administration. we're coming right back. stay with us. ♪. lou: our commander in chief has gone from leading from behind to simply being left behind in iraq. former nato supreme commander

. lou: breaking news tonight. actor harrison ford was seriously injured when his vintage world war ii training plane that you see there crash landed on a golf course in venice, california. the actor was stabilized at the scene. he's been taken to a local hospital for treatment. sources say that he sustained cuts to his head. we do not know the extent of the injuries but again, he was stabilized at the scene and has been taken to the hospital. we're told that seemingly miraculously no one on the ground was injured in that crash. he had no passengers aboard the plane. no word, of course on what caused the plane to crash.

the 72-year-old ford is a longtime aviator. he survived at least one other plane crash in the past. millions of folks in the mid-atlantic and east coast states slogging through another messy winter storm but as bad as the morning commute was for most of those folks it was far worse for passengers of this aircraft who flew into new york's laguardia airport. a delta flight from atlanta 127 passengers aboard this morning veered off the runway. the plane plowed through a fence and came to rest on an embankment within just a few feet of the waters of flushing bay. two dozen injuries were reported among the passengers but they were described as minor and mostly back and neck related. if i may say those would only be minor injuries if they weren't your back and your neck. we are happy to report their injuries were no worse. turning to the middle east and war against the islamic

state the islamic state today setting fire to oil wells outside the city of tikrit which is under siege. as the radical islamist terrorists are trying to hold that city against an all-out assault by 30,000 shia militiamen, iraqi qud forces. they try to reclaim the hometown of executed sunni leader saddam hussein and the growing influence of iran iraq and the region leading the saudi foreign minister to issue this troublesome assessment quote -- . lou: joining us dean of the fletcher school at tufts

university, admiral james stavridis, good to have you with us. >> good to be here, lou. lou: first your assessment what is happening with iran and obvious growing influence within iraq? >> lou, it's extremely concerning and we have feared this for a long time, and as we've seen the weakening of the iraqi government the vacuum is being filled by iran to. see general soleimani who is the head of the force openly parading demonstrating personal leadership of his campaign captures the depth of iranian influence and the fight. this is very, very concerning in a strategic sense as we look long-term, beyond the islamic state. lou: and give us your judgment about how well the offensive is going to this point. seems they are in greater proximity to tikrit and the offenses of the islamic state, much quicker than most people suggested at least to me.

>> as you and i talked previously lou, i think we're going to find quickly that the islamic state is not ten feet tall. the fact they're burning oil well they're getting out of dodge quickly. i think tikrit is going to fall and the next step is the buildup toward the campaign for mosul. what is worrisome, we are one step forward in terms of striking out against the islamic state i feel it's two steps back as we see iranian influence grow. lou: as we look at tikrit and the prospects of the assault, expected assault on mosul. iran may be the ones emerging from standing ten feet tall rather than the islamic state, and the united states not standing there at all. the implications for you, the united states for our arab allies for israel. >> all bad, and you see it from riyadh to tel aviv. this is very concerning the

strategic focus in the region should be on iran. that's the long game danger in the region. what is concerning is that the united states has not moved with more alacrity in the iraqi situation. we are afraid to put minimal number of boots on the ground to do the special forces to do the logistics, to do the aviation i think we need five to ten thousand. we don't need 100,000 troops there we could have a significant influence on this campaign. lou we've got to move faster or we're going to lose ground to iran in this situation. lou: the new defense secretary ashton carter saying yesterday, as you know, that he sees the calendar that's been put forward by the pentagon as being a political calendar not a military calendar or strategy, and the reality is it's marked primarily by the 2016 presidential election. that's extraordinary straight

talk, appreciated, i'm sure, by nearly every american but it also is a huge danger signal for us and our policy in that region, is it not? >> it is lou, and it's not just in the iraq-syria case it's also in afghanistan where we could incredibly make the same mistake we made in iraq and completely disengage. if we go by a political calendar and simply say we've got to have everybody out by the end of 2016. we ought to leave about 8,000 u.s. troops and about 5,000 european troops there to continue to support the afghan security forces, and it's the same in iraq and syria. we cannot let the political calendar drive it. i applaud secretary carter's comments. >> admiral james stavridis, good to have you with us thanks. >> thanks, lou. lou: time for a look at our online poll results.

. lou: an update on our breaking news tonight, actor harrison ford piloting the aircraft that

you see there. he's been seriously injured after the vintage plane crash landed on a golf course in venice, california. an employee at penmar golf course says there was blood all over his face, but that doctors and medics at the scene you see the fire department responding treating him, taking good care of him. actor, we're told various sources saying he was stabilized at the scene, and taken to a local hospital in venice california. sources say he sustained cuts to his head, and remarkably no one on the ground injured as harrison had to crash land for what reason we don't yet know. this aircraft. it's a world war ii-era training aircraft. no one else injured. the national transportation safety board says it's sending an investigator to the scene of

the crash. harrison force one of the most popular actors in all of hollywood. he has been an immense star for decades. he starred in the "indiana jones" movies starting out with the "indiana jones" and the "raiders of the lost arc", "star wars," extraordinary career in hollywood. he previously had to crash land twice before! in october of 2009 as we're looking at these pictures of them, at a red carpet event. he had to crash land near a training flight in los angeles in june 2000 he was unharmed when shifting winds tossed his aircraft off the runway in nebraska. and we're just learning los angeles police department spokesman says it was

mechanical failure that apparently did cause this accident. by the way, harrison ford is also an accomplished helicopter pilot in addition to fixed-wing aircraft. and by all accounts an extraordinary pilot and it appears with mechanical failure and the way in which he has emerged from this crash landing, that he has plenty of evidence to back that up. again harrison ford as we are told, involved in the crash landing of his aircraft. this training -- world war ii-era training aircraft it. landed on a golf course in venice, california. he was stabilized at the scene. taken to the hospital. no injuries of anyone on the ground, and he did not -- we are told -- have a passenger with him, in the aircraft. again, he didn't walk away from the landing but appears to be

in at least reasonable shape, in fair condition, as he's been taken to a venice hospital. again actor harrison ford surviving the crash landing of the aircraft that you see there. turning now to the u.s. ambassador to south korea. he says he's doing well tonight and will be back to work asap as he put it. a man armed with a ten-inch pairing knife attacked mark lippert during a breakfast function in seoul yesterday. ambassador lippert's facial cuts were severe as you see the bloodstreaming from his face. a deep gash in his face as doctors are telling us required 80 stitches. his arms and wrists were also cut in the attack. some ligament damage reported to his wrist but the ambassador posting on twitter that he's in great spirits. i should say tweeting on

twitter. police say the attacker quickly taken into custody has a long history of anti-american protests and demonstrations, and he was heard denouncing the joint u.s.-south korean exercises just moments before his attack. north korea weighing in. north korea state controlled media praising the attack, saying it was, quote just punishment for the joint drills between the two countries. turning to my commentary now, a few thoughts as the obama administration seems to be moving closer to finalizing a nuclear deal with iran. while ignoring warnings and opposition from israel and arab allies in the region. the iranian foreign minister mohammed zareef claimed the iranians are close to reaching a deal a day after they wrapped up the latest round of

negotiations in geneva. >> we believe that we are very close. very close. and we could be very far. but we are very close. if the political decision can be made to get to what president obama said. lou: the political decision as the foreign minister put it. the political decision of course, is complicated by the deep misgivings and distrust of not only israel but most of the arab states in the region who are threatened by iran. and minister zarif matter of factory declaring israel should be annihilated, saying it's a threat to iran. secretary of state kerry in riyadh met with officials from saudi arabia kuwait bahrain qatar and the united arab emirates. kerry claimed he's not seeking what he called a grand bargain, and a deal with iran he said would cut the chances of a

nuclear arms race in the middle east. >> making the gulf states safer and providing for greater security begins notwithstanding iran's activities which we all object to, it begins by preventing them from having a nuclear weapon. but nothing else changes the next day with respect to our joint commitment to stand up against any other kind of interference. lou: well a profound deep distrust as well on the part of the american people, and one would think most importantly amongst those that the president should be educating, informing and seeking approval from. most recent fox news poll shows 84% of americans oppose the president's plan that would permit the iranians a nuclear weapon in a decade. mr. obama and ayatollah khomeini are the only leaders

who endorsed the negotiations for the nuclear deal and they're not likely to broaden that support to the shia nations who fear even a nonnuclear iran. mr. obama remains entused despite all warnings all history all opposition but we've learned whether it's taxes, illegal immigration, border security no matter the issue mr. obama is always willing to be a unilateralist, to go it alone, and that his brand of authoritarianism may be much closer to that of the ayatollah than was ever generally considered possible. our quotation of the evening this from author salman rushdie -- that might be some suggestion of the reason mr. obama's regime is so open so transparent. just like he promised so many

landing of his aircraft and you're looking at pictures of the aircraft on the golf course where he was forced to set down. joining us is fox news correspondent trace gallagher. trace, bring us up to date on what's going on. >> reporter: happened about 2:20 west coast time apparently harrison ford was taking off from the santa monica airport and witnesses say he got up over lincoln boulevard about a quarter mile from the ocean, and immediately his engine failed, so he made a mayday call back to the santa monica airport saying engine failure, engine failure. and immediately turned back around. if you fly out of the santa monica airport, one of your standard operating procedures is this you use the penmar golf course which is actually in venice, the town next door. you use that as emergency landing place that's exactly what harrison ford did. he turned around, flying this vintage fighter plane. he turned around and clearly

could not make it back to the airport. if you panned out and you saw the plane in relationship to the run way, it's maybe two to 300 yards he just didn't make it back. what happened is he this h to land in the grass. this is an aircraft that does not have retractable wings. what happened is the landing gear digs into the grass as well as the propeller and it tipped over forward. there were two doctors on the golf course playing golf at the time. luckily for harrison ford they ran to help him out of plane. he had cuts on his face. he was taken to we believe ucla medical center. the fire department says he is in fair to moderate condition. if you panned out, you'd see not only did harrison ford land this plane but landed it threading the needle between two trees, landed the plane at the kofl course and had to thread the needle between two trees.

those who don't know, harrison ford is a very experienced pilot. flying upwards of 50 years. he flies helicopters as well as fixed-wing aircraft and flies a lot out of the santa monica airport. he knows this area well knows what his emergency procedures are and it appears he used them to his fullest advantage because harrison ford did a very nice job of landing this plane crash landing albeit on the penmar golf course in venice, but landing this plane without serious injury lou. lou: trace, that is a remarkable a remarkable result giving what he had to contend with as a pilot. we're told he is a terrific pilot as you noted. he flies helicopters as well as fixed wing aircraft. we do know that this is a ryan nautical aircraft a nautical version of it. it's a 3 kr for those who are

interested in such things. built in 1942. imagine that trace. >> yeah. lou: and it's just extraordinary that no one was injured on the ground. it does also make you rejoice at the joke about doctors and golf courses. it's obviously where it holds up in venice california, doesn't it? >> and i got to tell you, lou, this is not harrison ford's first crash. he crashed back in 1999 as we noted, he also flies helicopters. he was 35 miles northeast of los angeles, and he crashed a helicopter in a dry lake bed up there. again was not seriously injured, and then was involved in some other air crash, i'm not sure the details of that one. this would be the third time harrison ford has been involved in something like this. you can see the configuration of the fighter plane, where the pilot sits in the back and the passenger sits in the front. they used to wear the old -- the things around your neck and

the obama administration seems blind to the consequences of his proposed nuclear deal with iran. joining us is real estate and media magnate boston properties executive mort zuckerman. good to have you. >> always great to be here. lou: trying to convince sunni leaders that the domination of shia iran is a wonder, a prospect for them as well as the rest of the world? >> it's a piece of what's going on there. all of our allies all of our supporters are the ones dismayed by this whole thing and our opponents are happy. there's something wrong. saudi arabia you know, kuwait the uae, all of the -- egypt all of these countries, basically allies of america in a very difficult region, they're the ones who are opposed to what we're doing.

lou: and the align wment egypt, with israel jordan this is a hopeful prospect. it is one which doesn't seem to be being supported by the white house much being made of it at all when real leadership would -- i would think, would suggest he take the forefront. >> but if you look at the president's record okay, he has long believed that he could somehow or other establish a relationship with iran, that this was going to be his great strategic breakthrough. lou: from the very outset. >> from the very outset, and the evidence is completely against it. he's going as if none of the facts on the ground really count. but a lot of danger will befall all of our allies in the region and especially israel. lou: with this opposition and benjamin netanyahu making clear the reasons and the evidence and the history that puts that opposition into context and

makes it extraordinarily understandable. how can this deal go forward with the opposition of israel the arab states of the region and the american people for crying out loud. >> i don't know whether or not it's going to be possible for this administration to put through their program. on the other hand it's not easy to figure out how it's going to be stopped. that is one of the advantages of our system that the president can make these kinds of commitments as a foreign policy matter and you can't easily unravel it or stop it. this is a situation where it's going, and the exact opposite we should be in a sense opposing the various people whom we're somehow supporting and supporting the various people whom we're basically dismissing. lou: he said famously he would radically transform america. he has certainly transformed the value structure by which presidents make decisions at least in the clear and open space seen by the american people. it's getting narrower but it's

there. what in the world are we to make of this? >> it's hard it's a puzzlement right? what we can make of it it's very dangerous, the kinds of policies he wants to put in are foreign policy but domestic policies make you very, very nervous. this is somebody who originally supported him. i cannot understand what they are doing. the thing that is distressing to me is the assumption that they have all the wisdom and all of the experts in the fields get ignored. lou: it seems to me at one point our elites had a sense of their own absurdit and infallability this president is not so burdened. mort zuckerman, good to talk with you. >> my pleasure. lou: new polls show a front-runner emerging from the list of 2016 republican presidential candidates. doug schoen and

venice california after having taken off from santa monica airport which is just west of los angeles. it came down 2:30 p.m. pacific time at the golf course in venice section and just pass a red light of the santa monica airport for officials say he was stabilized at the scene to doctors more you -- for playing golf and help to treat him at the scene medics' showed up in he was stabilized then transported to a local hospital with what is described as primarily facial and head injuries. but they do say he was conscious and alert but described to be unfair to moderate condition. and unidentified relative telling as he had cuts but otherwise was falling.
