that's it for us tonight. thank you for joining us good night from new york. see you tomorrow. . neil: as hillary clinton is raising cash, are liberals about to raise hell? welcome, everybody, i'm neil cavuto. and thanks to cheryl casone and david asman and tom sullivan for filling in while i was out. i'm trying to figure out, 2.5 billion dollars. that is how much the clinton cash machine stands to bring in by election day. but not without paying potentially a very heavy price. not with the banking and financial types who apparently have the dough but the liberal types who have little patience for candidates who take that dough. thank god hillary has a bank problem and party's base told them it's them or us taking money from fat cats who will
8:01 pm
guarantee you lose. to charlie gasparino, and michael car asa. what do you make of this? >> she has to walk a tightrope. the wall street guys i talked to and canvassing today, what do you think about the 2.5 billion number. they think she can do it. neil: that would have to be a big part of that? >> they have no problem being a part of that. they think whatever she does to the left by starting a class warfare attack which she's shown signs she's going to do it and think she's going to do it and go back to her quote, unquote self to appease elizabeth warren and appease her normal self. i think they're misreading the situation. one of the things the media is obsessed with is how far right, how the far right of the republican controls the party. i don't think that's the case. the far left the democratic
8:02 pm
party does control the democratic party, and i think in order for her to be -- to get elected and govern and to stay president she's going to have to be very, very liberal. she's going to be a carbon copy of president obama. president obama hasn't really endorsed her. he said she'd make an excellent candidate. so he thinks elizabeth warren would make an excellent candidate. neil: michael what do you think of this? she has no formidable competition to speak of. eight years ago she didn't seem to have any. how she has to walk the fine line with banks what do you think? >> it's a delicate balance. she has to keep the wall street loyal donors in check while balancing the liberals that she's going to move forward with progressive policy. neil: she doesn't want to appease the liberals too much. in a general election campaign, if she were to get that far, she doesn't want to come across as a left wing kook right?
8:03 pm
>> she has to in order to get the support from the liberal side. i think she's going to play it right down the middle and comes down to trust and ethic, if she gets in office what is she going to do next. >> i think that's the game plan, play it down the middle. bash income inequality try not to make the name goldman sachs because her friend runs the place. neil: do they know how the game is played? >> they think this is more rhetorical that in her heart, what her husband was, but i think that one of the things these guys don't get everything right. my point is that the democratic party particularly since obama has been elected has moved farther to the left than the wall street democrats who are mostly centrists realize. the republican party, you do if you're talking about right-wingers, you have the tea partiers, they're not as far right when it come down to
8:04 pm
major issues but there are democrats. if you think about what they're for they're for balanced budgets. this isn't the religious right controlling the republican party it's much more of an economic populism. the democratic left is far left. almost socialist. neil: what do you make of that? that does put hillary in this bind here where she didn't have any competition in the foreseeable horizon but she's been known to implode on her own. will this be an issue that implodes her? >> i think there's a couple factors to consider. let's go back to $2.5 billion for a second. i believe with whatever tensions she's going to get on wall street or other places, she's going to raise the money. neil: jeb bush is the biggest guy on the republican side can he raise that too? >> i don't know if he can do that much but has the capability to do so. >> he can raise a lot of money, jeb. one of the things governor
8:05 pm
romney was blown away by, there is a lot of tension between jeb bush and romney. he said i'm running. neil: all the money guys glommed on. >> not that they glommed on he glommed onto them. and gave romney a chance to figure it out. neil: so will that power her forward or hurt her? >> i don't think you have to in order to win the election, to be honest with you. hasn't needed that amount in the past. neil: usually the person with the most money wins. >> i think that's going to be true now. >> it depends, though john mccain has almost no money. he had some but was way outspent. neil: i'm talking about going all the way. >> i'm sure obama outspent romney. >> not by much. >> that isn't the reason romney lost. there are a lot of reasons we can attribute to that. >> that was under a billion dollars. we're talking 2.5 billion.
8:06 pm
>> here's a converse i heard between democrat that the money might be a problem. raising that much money is going to have an appearance problem. you don't need 2.5 to win, and look like you're just -- you overstate too much. neil: 1.99 billion make it look like you're having a discount campaign. [ laughter ] >> guys thank you both very much. back to the 2.5 billion dollars and where and how it could trip hillary clinton up. very hard for hillary to brand herself a champion of the common man. former virginia attorney general says candidates from both sides should stop pretending to be what they are not. i'm glad you touched on both sides. part of the argument that we're seeing advance as we profile the candidates is they're portraying personalities that are not them. for hillary clinton to say she's with everyday folks and take this scooby doo van across
8:07 pm
america first of all, i've known people and scooby doo people are high as a kite, and may be aiming for iowa and end up in texas. why is that bad? what's your fear of any candidate who plays that game? >> you can look at 2012 in a lot of ways one of the reasons romney lost is the president fit the profile of someone who understood the average voter better than mitt romney did. that is not going to be a hillary advantage. she's going to come out there and be like every other common man who felt they were a pauper coming out of the white house. i don't think there are too many of those out there. neil: it's not as if money or having it however you got it, can be a problem. >> right but neil you started off there's an authenticity problem here which is an honesty problem. she'll say it feels like she'll say whatever she thinks she
8:08 pm
needs to say however she needs to say it to win, and at the same time. neil: and republicans don't do that too, ken? >> no no no. you see this on both sides, but every republican doesn't do it. i wouldn't say every democrat does it. but hillary does. neil: and the problem is people will say look, you've earned a book fees, speaking fees your husband's wealth is legendary, don't tell us that you feel our pain. >> all combined with -- no they won't connect with that kind of a person. you can add into that and you're getting money behind the scenes you won't tell us about from the foreign powers while you were secretary of state and deleting e-mails. it all piles on much to each other and gets the wall street money. wall street ain't main street? either party and people who rely on it do so with a bit of danger involved. i think it's worse on the left than it is on the right as much as i am not a fan of special
8:09 pm
interests. the left is desperately looking to see hillary challenged, and that's exactly what she doesn't want to happen. everything i'm seeing with this sort of rollout of the campaign really is inviting more intensity on the left against her, and more separation from the average american across the spectrum which makes her easier to beat for a republican nominee. neil: the left didn't like very rich people, then? >> they definitely don't like very rich people. but it's one thing to be rich person, it's another thing to act like you're not. back to your initial point, neil. >> very good point. >> it's insincere and dishonest. neil: i always think candidates to say the person can you belly up to at the bar. if i find my president in a bar, i'm going to be worried. that's just me. ken, thank you very much. good seeing you again. >> good to see you, neil. neil: is hillary already
8:10 pm
stumbling? why i'm not voting for hillary trending topics on twitter. after she announced her candidacy on twitter! former democratic congressman dennis kucinich says low key launch is backfiring here. congressman always good to see you. what do you make of this and the backlash. when you have her poll numbers within the party, it's easy to look like you're unstoppable, and easy to depoke that. you say there is something more potentially going on? >> well first of all, i think we have to credit secretary clinton with a very good commercial in the launch. i watched it carefully, neil in that two minutes she spoke for 30 seconds, which makes it one of the briefest presidential announcements in u.s. history. neil: good point. >> and there are special effects music in the background and portrayed an america that is very pretty and
8:11 pm
an america we all want to see, and an america which doesn't exist en masse. and i think that if that's the america we're all looking forward to, everybody wants it. on the other hand very few people have access to it and the real issue is the disparities of wealth the fact that america is going to war all over the world and she's approved of it generally. and we're on the threshold of an opportunity to create a whole new country. a whole new civilization. i want to know how that's going to happen if america is for sale? neil: one of the things you were consistent in in your own presidential run and congressional career, people agree or disagree, no one would disagree with passion or enthusiasm or consistency. you were not a weather vane, but the fear that a lot of liberals have of hillary clinton is she is. i don't know if that is accuratior not. many on the left said we are a party that stands with all of these things, and with all of
8:12 pm
the bank money and the clinton initiative projects we're not convinced you are with us on that. is that a serious problem for her right now? >> i'll tell you what's a serious problem. we need to stop the country stop the intervention, stop the war profiteering. neil: she won't do that. >> look, i'm in california right now. there's a water shortage here. we've got water shortages all around the country. we need to be conserving water conserving our land. new practices in agriculture. we need a whole discussion about re-creating america, and if you have interests pouring 2.5 billion dollars into, it that's going to smother. neil: what do you make of that figure, dennis? i couldn't believe it when i heard it, and heard the 2 billion they were estimating if jeb bush were to make it all the way. that would be a 4.5 5 billion
8:13 pm
dollars presidential election. >> we are at an auction and the policies are going to the highest bidder. worried about jobs, health care, retirement security their investment you think any of them are going to have a way to get a word in edgewise in a presidential campaign, where this is this money bearing the electorate. it's not going to cause debate it's going to stop debate. that's the problem here. neil: sometimes a candidate emerges who wasn't bought and paid for or rises up despite the money. last time it happened was abraham abraham lincoln. thank you very much. dennis kucinich. the question of the ages boxers or briefs or which godfather movie is the best? i will answer all of your questions at the end of the

. neil: get a load of this. marco rubio just jumping in and tax plan on the outs? the new presidential hopeful planned to simplify our tax code generating heat from the left and the right. something i brought up with him not too long ago. you know what you're going to hear from the critics he's friends of the super rich he gets all his income from the capital gains, et cetera. the people who accuse me of that are millionaires and lecturing me on the plight of the middle class. americans need better paying jobs and tax code is impediment
8:18 pm
for that. neil: i think if you are for rubio or not, for tax reform or not. do you notice the trend here? anyone who comes forward with an idea to simplify the most complicated tax code on the planet are crucified. former governor wondering the same thing. is that the same reaction? it's just about the fat cats or the rich get off and the poor pay? how do we ever get past this nonsense? >> well neil i give credit to senator rubio for trying something slightly different. the understandable and predictable proposal from republican candidates is look lower rates and clear out unspecified exemptions, credits and deductions and have a lower flatter simpler tax code that will be pro-growth and pro investment and everything will get better. some go further and say let's have a flat tax. script for republican candidates for two decades.
8:19 pm
marco says i'm for rates lowering two rates but i'm going to give relief targeted relief to modest and low-income families with children, and he's getting criticized by some of our republicans, my republican friends for not being the traditional script. i give him credit for trying something different. is it ideal? no neither is the current tax code certainly better than what we have now. neil: everyone hates our present tax system. even those who don't pay taxes. i'm wondering what is the harm for finding a simpler way about it. he keeps a high rate of believe at 2.8%. critics say if he keeps some of their deductions and investment credits they're paying a sharply lower rate than that. so getting away with murder. you say what? >> one of the main criticisms of his proposal is he's creating another exemption or in this case credit, and it's going to add one more thing,
8:20 pm
one more complication to the tax code. okay we can concede that intellectualy we want it to be simpler, not more complicated. if you believe for now we're going to have some credits exemptions or deductions what's more important than trying to get relief to poor children? i don't think that's would be the worst thing on the list, it should be high on the list. >> the problem is the messenger with the message and whether the messenger is able to cut through all of this and express the need for getting this fixed once and for all. is he that messenger? >> i think he's got a lot of upside as a candidate. he's low in the polls right now, but i think he's the most gifted communicator and campaigner in the field. he also has high bred appeal across the republican party. think national defense social conservatives economic conservatives tea party types. he may not be anyone's or not
