it's gone up a little bit again overnight. 277 is still your number, but it's gone up again overnight. why on earth is oil going down and gas is going up? let's bring in patrick dehaan with gas buddy out of chicago. all right, patrick, why don't you explain for us oil down $10 and gas is rising. what's going on? >> i think a lot of folks forget that we can have all the oil in the world and the eia has reported for months that oil inventories are at 80 year highs. if there's nobody willing to refine it or able to refine it or less capacity you're going to have a problem, that's the situation for months and refineries crippled as well as the red-hot gasoline story. we haven't seen demand this high for years, you have a function of the two and that leaves us with a situation where the oil price is going down. stuart: the summer driving season, we're at the peak and that's going to tail off by the time we get to labor day.

we have forecasters, saying $250 a gallon national average at labor day. will you go with that? >> i think that's optimistic. you remember when i was in the program a few christmases ago and i was the grinch: i almost feel like i'm the grinch, saying the iran situation and the prices are overblown. i don't see any plummet at the pump that the americans are expecting because of the agreement. i think we'll see prices fall into september, october and then maybe by christmas we see sub$2 prices. stuart: come on. last one, what on earth is going on in california where the average price for regular is $3.86 a gallon? you want to explain that one? >> again, it's all refinery, stuart. we have all the oil in the world and not enough gasoline and exxonmobil refinery caught on fire. the situation, california has
