man but they're not releasing his name as the investigation continues. there were 100 people in the theater at the time of the shooting. they found suspicious items in the vehicle and decided to set off some explosions. we'll have a live report from lafayette in a few minutes. breaking business news this morning, amazon.com shocking wall street with an unexpected profit in the most recent quarter. the stock is soaring in premarket. lauren is on the story. we like good news. >> we like good news. this week has been all about earnings. fresh off amazon's prime day success where they ordered more than they did on amazon's biggest-ever black friday, amazon shares, look at the bid-ask, soaring 17%. it should open at a lifetime high. the all-time high making it the world's biggest retailer

surpassing walmart. sharp sales gains in the recent quarter. droven by cloud business, more product efficiencies in the fulfillment department. losses could return soon. amazon spends a lot of money on the fulfillment centers, especially ahead of christmas and content for prime video streaming. we're hearing new kindles could be on the way. >> thank you so much, lauren. good news there. starbucks getting it done again. nicole has the coffee giant latest earnings. hitting an all-time high? >> today is looking pretty great because starbucks brewing up better than expected revenue for the first call third quarter. news ahead 4%. food, technology and drinks help the company bring in more customers. total net profit in the period jumped 22% from last year. global same-store sales rising 7%. they have more customers in the stores. starbucks raising 2015 outlook

and authorizing a 50 million share buyback. pandora reported better-than-expected results as well for its second quarter and raising its full-year forecast. it also signed up more subscribers. that is great news. the active users up about 4% to more than 79 million. pandora users. also uses software that can predict a listener's preferences. they know what you like. shares of visa. let's take a look at that. gained 5% in extended trading hours. the company's third quarter adjusted profit and revenue both came in better than expected. payment volume rose 11%. visa is in talks to reunite with it is former subsidiary visa europe. why do they want to do that? so they can compete against mastercard of course. >> thank you, nicole. let's get you caught up on the global markets. asian markets finishing the final trading day of the week lower. survey of manufacturing activity in china falling to a 15-month

low. china shanghai falling more than 1%, snapping a six-session winning vehicle. england, france, germany gains across the board. modest but we'll take them. u.s. stock futures showing a positive picture to wrap up the week. a triple-digit loss for the dow weighed down in part as lauren pointed out by earnings. caterpillar earns a big disappointment. gold prices tumbling below $1100 an ounce. investors get a release for new home sales for june. estimates expect the sales to come in at an annual rate of 546,000. that would match the may report which was up more than 2% in april. according toes national homebuilders association survey there is an uptick that continue push sales higher. people are anticipating higher mortgage rates. so they're running out maybe getting that mortgage and buying a new home ahead of higher rates.

a deadly shooting at a movie theater in louisiana. a gun man killing at least two people before fatally shooting himself. fox news's kyle rothenburg is live in lafayette, louisiana with the latest. kyle? >> good morning, dagen. what looks and sounds to be quiet behind me the grand theater in lafayette, louisiana, it was anything but that according to witness as couple hours ago. three people are dead tonight. nine are injured. one of those three people that are dead was the gunman. now this gunman is a 58-year-old white male, police describe him to be and it was just a regular thursday night. about 100 people in the theater 14 behind me watching the movie, "trainwreck," allege ledly according to police this white male opened fire in the back of a theater with a semi-automatic handgun killing two people. injuring nine. some of those people are critically injured. they're at the hospital.

some are not critically injured according to police. they're not life-threatening. that is how they describe it. the gunman after he shot in the back of the theater, turned the gun on himself according to police and he shot himself. there is a lot of witnesses that are saying a lot of things about it. we have some of it on tape. take a listen. >> we were buying popcorn at the concession stand when whole group of people, teenagers, mainly running out telling everybody to run for that life. i thought teenagers were playing a little prank. i seen a whole another bigger group coming out saying same thing. my reaction was, we saw a lady with blood all over her leg. i grab ad towel. we all ran. >> dagen, behind me it is ongoing investigation as police say. everyone from federal, state, local authorities, everyone is

getting involved to figure out one question, why did this gunman allegedly do what he did? >> kyle, thank you for that report from lafayette, louisiana. amy schumer, that movie "trainwreck" is her film. she tweeted out my heart is broken and my prayers are with everyone in louisiana. turkey allowing the u.s. military to use a key airbase near the syrian boarder to launch astrikes against isis. president obama and turkey finalizing the deal after months of negotiations between the two countries. it opens up other bases in turkey for the potential use of the campaign against isis. hillary clinton set to propose to raise some short term capital gains rates. a campaign aide says the call is one of series of proposal to encourage long-term economic investment. clinton is expected to call for a review of shareholder activism, greater stock

bibuyback disclosure and new scrutiny of executive compensation. separately two inspectors general asking the justice department to open a criminal investigation into whether sensitive government information was mishandled in clinton's personal email account. fox business obtaining documents that allege several senior faa managers including director michael ware at that huerta, knowingly and breaking law ignoring faa advisors to put a stop to it immediately. at issue the contract with the union representing 15,000 air traffic controllers. a source inside the faa says these practices cost taxpayers in millions of dollars in wasted salaries and overtime. fox business's adam shapiro has been on the story. broke it from the very start. he will cover it through the the day. nbc universal on the hunt for new media companies.

"wall street journal" reports that the comcast unit had talks with several companies for potential deals like buzzfeed, business insider. nbc universal talking about increasing the roughly 14% stake in vox media. nasa identifying the best bet for a planet like earth. this cousin to earth is called kepler 452-b. this was based on observations from kepler stays telescope. it is a little further away from its star than we are to our sun but their star burns hotter. so basically it is similar to earth. no, we don't though if there is any life there. it is located about 1400 light years from the globe that we're sitting on right now. the nickles and dimes apparently aren't adding up for 50-cent and his accountant. his accountant taking the stand

look at currencies across the board. watching the dollar there. the dollar of course and yield on 10-year treasury right now 2.28%. better get on that mortgage, people. turning to sports, dodger pitcher clayton kershaw handcuffs the mets on three hits, 3-0 shutout. jimmy rollins hit his ninth home run. kershaw was perfect until curtis grander son line ad lead-off single in the 7th inning. matt carpenter hit two home runs for the cardinals as they beat the royals 4-3. trevor rosenthal worked out after ninth inning jam as the cardinals have a six-game lead or the pirates in the national league central. a long time executive has been named general manager of the toronto maple leafs. he spent 2years with the

actually, we're actually underplaying it because it will take off like a rocket. >> show you shares of amazon. fresh off the prime day success. if you pull up the board you can see a 18% pop right now. look at that, 570 and then some is the bid-ask. that is the lifetime high for this stock. the online retailer market value is bigger than walmart's and it is the world's biggest retailer. amazon posted a surprise profit plus sharp sales gains in the recent quarter driven by the cloud business and more efficiencies and product fulfillment but losses could return soon. see amazon is company concerned about long-term investment than short-term profit. there is report that amazon proposing a store where you drive up to get groceries online. they're constantly thinking ahead for the future. they surprised us with cost control measures and a profit. >> really interesting, they have other things, not just the stuff you buy.

cloud computing does so well. everybody is talking about is amazon overbought? it closed at 480 and change. looking 570. the price to earnings ratio is nine hundred versus ibm and citi has 10 or something. it is something ridiculous. that is the question, whether or not it is overbought. you will see a new high today, that's for sure. dagen: some businesses, speaking like rocket ships in terms of stocks, starbucks getting it done once again. the coffee giant's earnings. nicole has them along with some other results yesterday. >> exciting time for earnings. in this case we'll see starbucks moving to the upside, brewing better than expected revenue and earnings for the fiscal fourth quarter. they have new food and drinks. they have the smores, trap, things like that. -- frap. helps to bring customers into the store. net profit jumped 22% year-over-year.

picture here is nice to the upside. just a 11-point gain on dow futures. fairly decent move on nasdaq. gold prices under pressure down almost $12 an house. asian markets finishing lower after report on manufacturing in china fell to a 15-year low. let's get details from reporter rachel ruble live in beijing. good morning. rachel. >> that's right, dagen. stocks in the red across the board including shanghai composite which looks like it was up for seventh straight day of gains. disappointing preliminary pmi data that you mentioned came in below forecast of 50 level which separates contraction from expansion at a 15-year low. hang seng was down as well as japan's nikkei erased yesterday's gains, moved lower as well.

we saw big losses for major exporters and index heavyweights. south korean kospi moved lower as well. we saw, falling to the lowest level in two weeks as the yuan fell to the lowest level in three years. thank you. dagen: thank you, rachel ruble in beijing. i misspoke. it is 15-month low, not 15-year low according to reports. let's look at your friday forecast with fox meteorologist maria molina. >> good morning, dagen. we have a lot of weather going on across the nation a big storm system on the move and will bring risk of severe storms across parts of northern plains not only today but as we head into tomorrow. over the weekend you will have to stay weather alert across that part of the nation. the other concern as we head farther south, heat index values forecast to make it into the triple digits with excessive heat warnings for places like

nasdaq 100. good morning. i'm dagen mcdowell. in for sandra smith. i'm joined by nicole petallides and lauren simonetti. a deadly shooting at a movie theater in louisiana. a gunman killing at least two people before killing himself. fox news's kyle rothenburg is live in lafayette, louisiana, with the very latest. kyle? >> good morning, dagen. it looks dark behind me, it sounds quiet, but i will tell you this, it was nothing like that according to witnesses earlier this evening when police say a gunman, 58-year-old white man, inside of a theater filled with about 100 people just started opening fire with a semiautomatic handgun. what we do know three people are dead including the gunman after he sprayed the audience in the theater. police say he just shot himself and also there is nine people that are injured.

nine of them are at the hospital. some are critically injured. some are not life-threatening. this is what police is telling us now. the latest, it all happened starting at 7:00 a bunch of people on regular thursday night trying to go to a movie theater to watch a movie of the movie was "trainwreck." about 20 or 30 minutes into it the 58-year-old man started shooting. there are a lot of witnesses that are very emotional. we have some of this on tape describing what they heard, what they saw. take a listen. >> it is not real, you know. for a minute you're thinking how can, how does the happiest place in the world produce somebody so fill of hate and evil to just stand up in a movie theater and start shooting people? what provokes somebody to do that? hard to thinks what happens in the unhappiest places. >> so there is ongoing investigation police say. there is federal, state, local authorities behind me inside of the movie theater trying to

he spotted officers coming in and he turned around and went fence the crowd and he fired a single gunshot. and that was on himself. maria: authorities say the gunman had a criminal record but had not been in the trouble with the law recently. no motive has been established. police are not identifying suspect so as not to compromise the investigation. he is believed to be acting alone. louisiana governor bobby jindal was quick to praise the response from the law enforcement as the shooting occurred. >> they ran towards danger, not away from it. the first officers could literally still hear the gunshots. they ran towards the theater. they do amazing job protecting us every single day. i'm grateful for their heroism. maria: what we know right now, investigators are looking for multiple addresses for the shooter in multiple states. blake burman from d.c. with very latest. good morning to you.
