>> look at crude oil, 40.5. >> almost 5% off on oil. here's everything you need to know right now. move over ashley madison, a new leak in town. the all-important minutes from the federal reserve's latest meeting spreading like wildfire after a bloomberg headline dropped more than 20 minutes early.
4:01 pm
after the minutes were released early, turning positive before briefly going down after 10 minutes. along with jonathan hoenig of capitalist hedge fund. he's a fox news contributor. ted, what do you think happened? >> first of all, i think the fed minutes were a little more of the same. like groundhog day. what we've seen in future minutes or past minutes or whatever. i thought they came out a little more positive this time. cheryl: excuse me, ted, i'm sorry to interrupt, i want to ask specifically rather than about, rather than interpretation, how in the world the minutes were leaked so early? any clue? >> i have no idea. i'm sure somebody at bloomberg hit a wrong button. embarassing. the traders took advantage of them. so i think there's going to be some punishments or something handed out.
4:02 pm
it's a pretty big mistake, obviously. >> jonathan, when minutes are leaked that early, if anybody had inside information about the minutes being leaked early, they could have made a ton of money, is there going to be an investigation here? >> david, there should be. this isn't the first time the fed minutes have been released early. and try to get a sense of the importance and the severity of these minutes on the markets as you pointed out. markets down 200 points before the minutes were released coming all the way back and follow all the way down once again. this isn't like minutes from the local board meeting, trillions of dollars worth of the world's financial markets. so the markets were volatile before the minutes were released early and became more volatile afterwards. so you can bet, if not heads roll, they're investigated after this. >> jonathan, i thought the meetings were pretty dovish for the fed.
4:03 pm
i'm wondering despite the dovishness, the market did end down over 150 points. dow did. they did recover after the notes came out. why so down, if the chance of a rate hike lessened a little on the basis of these notes? >> david, there was a number of different dimensions you could see temperature the federal reserve seemed to indicate inflation for example, but the inflation expectations were tilted downward. they talked about approaching a rate hike as soon as september or october, but again, no real clear indication. from my perspective, the notes and the minutes left traders and left investors more confusion. >> i want to read one line, neither monetary nor fiscal policy was well positioned to help the economy withstand substantial adverse shocks. that seems dovish to me. does that to you? hold on, that's for ted. go ahead, ted.
4:04 pm
>> you have to look not only at these minutes but past minutes. the fed is more concerned about labor and unemployment figures than they are about inflation. inflation, you got to remember this is .1, expecting .2, it is a rounding error. but the labor markets have been strong. that's what janet yellen and the fomc is most concerned about, and i think that's what's going to precipitate a rate increase in september. >> appreciate it. melissa? >> new details, fox news identified the two e-mails that kickstarted the fbi investigation into the mishandling of classified information. peter barnes joins us from washington, and peter, hillary's camp is responding to these reports now? >> that's right, melissa. the clinton campaign is about to begin a conference call with reporters to push back on this report by our colleagues at fox news, on these two e-mails sent

4:06 pm
wrongly released to the public by the state department without redactions. neither document is marked classified, but that's no excuse under the rules governing this type of communication. the clinton campaign says the state department has asserted neither one was classified at the time it was sent on the call with reporters. campaign officials were planning to say the e-mails, quote, represent further proof that hillary clinton did nothing wrong and spotlight ongoing disagreements between government agencies about what should be considered classified. melissa? >> good luck with that approach. thanks, peter. we're going to be monitoring that conference call and bring you the latest on the clinton campaign's response to our report. should be interesting, david? >> on the other side of the political ledger, dueling republicans, donald trump and jeb bush both hosting town halls in new hampshire tonight. the events begin at the same time. however, they're being held in counties only about 20 miles apart.
