>> by talented of the other day and i have done 41 shark documentaries in the last 20 years. >> it is a phenomenal amount of time to spend on an intriguing subject and i've always wondered if there was no movie, would we be as obsessed with and scared by sharks as a culture? >> i think that it changed everything to inspire people to want to learn about sharks after the fears subsided and is putting them into an area where i think that they are the most popular wild animal in the world and i think that they helped to inspire shark week that began in the late 1980s. >> it just seems like every year we learn more and more about these creatures. so what was one of the most

surprising things through this, what were you surprised by? >> the biggest thing for me was back in 2000 when we filmed the original movie, people didn't know that they could fly out of the water and that was a big discovery for us and there was even some experts the thought that everything was vague, things like that. when we saw with our own eyes we couldn't believe it. so there is so much more about sharks that we don't understand that we are on the edge of finding out a lot of things mainly because of what we have nowadays. kennedy: i love the accessibility to these creatures come obviously those of you dedicate your lives to learning about this, you are preservationists at heart and you are the ones that are teaching people about these animals as opposed to scaring the heavens out of them.
