>> breaking news this morning, u.s. stock futures ahead of a key august jobs report. good friday, morning, i'm lauren simonetti. >> good morning, i'm nicole petallides. we told you volume at this time was here. we're set up for another wild ride on wall street. this sets up the federal reserve decision whether or not to raise interest rates. dow looking down 158 points. s&p down 17. >> it will be a tough one. asian stocks falling ahead of the u.s. jobs data. nikkei down 7%, falling more than 2% today. china closed once again. >> let's take a cue from europe.

as we saw asian stocks down. european stocks are down, and ftse and dax also down 1 1/2% each. >> check out how commodities are reacting. oil is down to $46.34 a barrel concerned about slowing economic growth. gold unchanged. >> let's check the u.s. dollar. euro is stronger against the u.s. dollar as is the japanese yen at moment. >> yields on japanese treasury bond are ahead of the news. welcome to "fbn:am" this friday morning. your first look what is moving in today markets. first look at breaking news and what to expect in the day ahead. >> it is all about stocks for investors when the government does release its august jobs report. the report is always closely watched but this one is particularly important. now that the federal reserve is

on track to raise interest rates, they said they wanted to do so perhaps as early as this month in their 16th, 17th meeting with the unemployment rate ticking down to 5.2%. investors watch the labor participation rate. we're down near 30, 40 year lows. that is terrible. attracts number of people employed or actively looking for work. that number has held steady 62.6%. that is the lowest since 1977. wages also in focus. the fed has been concerned about a slow rise in wages despite steady increase in number of jobs. that is another key factor. people are mixed whether or not they will raise these rates now inn september. >> our next guest will know a lot about this. we have the steven richhiuto at mizuho securities is thinking. good morning.

>> good morning. >> should we take the jobs report with a gain of salt because likely revised higher as it usually is with the month of august? >> the problem with august, preliminary numbers tend to be on weaker side. the market is kind of expecting that. even though consensus numbers are up in the 220ish type area, some numbers being revised down last couple days. whisper number steps to be below that. anything above that people take sort of consensus type number and not really respond off it. but i do like the comments you made earlier about the labor force participation rate because i think that's very critical component as hourly earnings number that will come out in this morning's report. >> really quickly before i give

it to nicole, steve, if the number is above 175,000 the fed hikes this month or next year? >> no. i think it is still next year. i think market remains unchanged if the number comes in as low as 175. even though a consensus is 220, a number from 175 to 225 will be perceived as consensus number. that is somewhat expected by the marketplace and will not have too much impact on monetary policy on the long end of the curve. >> big picture can we get the labor force participation rate back up anyway? at this point it seems far away and distant. i would love to see everybody employed. a lot of people are part-timers or can't work at all because they have the jobs they need? >> you bring up a great point that getting to the whole idea this is global economy. we're clearly not one of the most competitive nations in the world. you have seen a job transferring overseas. a change of jobs into

>> the best way for the republicans to win is if i win the nomination and go directly against whoever they happen to put up, and for that reason i have signed pledge. >> yes he did. meanwhile sources telling fox business that casino giant steve wynn is a key reason trump made the call to sign the rnc loyalty pledge. wynn is one of trump's key political advisors. >> that is pretty interesting right, that they are teaming up. they're battling it out in vegas but teaming up here. clinton campaign going into full damage control mode as the email campaign continues snowball through personal emails and phone calls. sell telling supporters that the former secretary of state did not do anything wrong and remains well-positioned to win the nomination. one senior official actually saying it will be a bumpy ride.

they're trying to appease big donors and big supporters. former top aide at state, jake sullivan, now a senior campaign visor, scheduled to testify before the house select committee on benghazi later today. that is all heating up as well. >> shall we do another market check? >> we should. not looking so good this morning. nikkei down 7% this week following another 2% this friday. kospi in south korea down 1 1/2%. >> in europe we've seen stocks unpressure. of the ftse down 1 1/2%. cac and dax down 1.7%. >> how does this set up us up in the u.s. for long holiday weekend. s&p is down almost 17, nasdaq selling off by 30 pate points. >> jobs report. we have the g20 meeting. any news could come out of all this. here are commodities, oil and gold. both to the downside.

>> oil has been such a moving story this week, unbelievable. here is how u.s. dollar is trading against currencies. weakness against the euro and japanese yen is looking a little bit stronger as well. >> check out the safe haven of the 10-year treasury bond. 2.13%. >> new question mark about the iranian deal. leaders say their parliament will have final agreement on approving the agreement. will be with their 15 member parliament, not congress. fresh off president obama he received final vote to protect the deal from congressional opponents. congress begins debating disapproval measure. expected to pass on friday. already threatening to put new sanctions on iran. >> royalty coming to call at the white house today. it will be a challenge for president obama. this is the first white house

visit for king salman of saudi arabia. it comes at a time when saudi arabia and the united states are trying to maintain their agreement on the iran nuclear deal. so much we've been talking about this. in return for that support president obama offered new u.s. military assistance and also enhanced security cooperation trying to show the support there of for the saudi king as he pays a visit. >> we have sad news this morning. another college shooting. this time on the campus of sacramento city college in california. police say three people were shot and one of them died. shooting took place in parking lot next to baseball field on the campus. all three victims were men. police say suspect was wearing cargo shorts and had no shirt on. no indication whether the shooter or victims had connection to the college. >> somehow they will get the tape and all that. kentucky clerk who refused over and over again to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples is in jail.

a federal judge charging her with contempt. rowan county clerk kim davis unsuccessfully appealed all the way to the high court to delay the judge's order citing her religious beliefs. here is some reaction to the presidential contends with they said about this. here is what hillary clinton tweeted. marriage equality is the law of the land. officials should be held to the duty to uphold the law, end of story. carly fiorina tweeted, lois lerner goes on paid administrative lead on irs but kentucky clerk kim davis goes to jail? that is the big story. she basically, was fine with same-sex couples but didn't want to issue the legal marriage certificates. she can't be fired. she has to be impeached. >> exactly. because she is obviously a government employee. the nfl wasting no time appealing a judge's decision lifting the leagues four-game "deflategate" suspension of new england patriots quarterback tom brady.

the judge's ruling means brady starts the season on the field while an appeal court considers the case. brady's attorney says his client just wants to get back to playing football next week. >> tom is just delighted to the back on the field. from the beginning, he frankly has been a victim in all of this. and all he has wanted to do is get bark to focus on his team, on his fans, and on what he does best and he is delighted to have that opportunity now. >> all right. a lot of people will be watching that game next week. the judge's ruling chastised the nfl for its handling of the scandal that erupted after the afc championship game in january. when officials discovered during the first half that brady used underinflated footballs. brady's attorney will be a guest on this morning with "mornings with maria." be a guest on fox business to watch the interview. >> was amazing story.

heat was a problem at u.s. open yesterday. an american was leading his match in the fourth set when that 92-degree heat here in new york, got to him. he fell on to the baseline. had to be helped off the court. that was the end of his day. record 13 matches were stopped due to the heat at this year's u.s. open. andy murray had to win the final three sets to beat a frenchman to advance to the third round. there is number two, roger federer. he cruised to a straight set victory. federer had 46 winning shots to just eight. federer advances. you had fourth seed carl line wozniacki who won 4-1. woes any aki advances and -- lost the match in the end. she has been a real favorite. turn to football, tim tebow still wants to play.

it showed last night in the eagles final preseason game. tebow has not played a regular came since 2012. he through two touchdown passes in losing effort to new york jets. tebow is competing with matt barkley to be eagles number 3 quarter. he completed 11 of 17 in a 24-18 loss. new england fans are back to brady back. >> they are not only once. >> maria menounos sporting patriots shirt. >> drones are everywhere these days. well, even in u.s. open match. a drone buzzed over the court and actually crashed into an empty section of seats. a u.s. tennis association spokesman says no one was hurt fortunately. new york police are obviously investigating. pinate of italy was in middle of her match.

from now. jobs this morning. investors get government release of august jobs report. always watched but this one is particularly important now that the federal reserve is on track to raise interest rates perhaps earlier this month. there is a 72% probability they will. here are the expectations, you're looking at them. 220,000 non-farm payroll jobs. what do investors want to know in the report if you look under hood, labor force participation rate? those are number of people either employed or actively looking for work. that number held steady at 62-point% in july. folks, that is the lowest since 1977. also wages. the fed is concerned about a slow rise in wages despite steady increase in number of jobs, wages are not going up and up. that is a key problem for the economy. nicole: we'll see whether or not the fed make as decision to raise rates. we'll turn to politics,

>> good friday morning, everybody. breaking news, u.s. stock futures sinking ahead of a release of a key jobs report for month of august. good morning, everybody, i'm lauren simonetti. nicole: tgif, you made it. i'm nicole petallides. we could set up for another wild ride on wall street. this jobs report could be considered a critical factor on federal reserve decision to raise interest rates. stock market futures here in the u.s. looking to the downside. down about 152 points. s&p, is 6 handles. nasdaq 37 to the downside. >> this is one of the most watched jobs report. nikkei is down. obviously china is closed once again. nicole: we talk about red arrows in asia and u.s. how about europe. red there too, folks. cac down 1.7, as is the dax under pressure. >> in commodities oil prices volatile story this week.

the data always closely watched, particularly important now that the federal reserve is absolutely on track to raise interest rates. the imf said no. key fed officials have said no. but we'll see. this is expectations. 220,000 jobs added. unemployment down to 5.2%. investors also watching what is called the labor force participation rate. it tracks number of people who either have jobs or actively looking for them. that number did hold steady at 62.6% back in july. but that was lowest since 1977. wages, a big deal, the fed has been concerned about the slow rise in wages, despite steady increase in number of jobs. you have to pay people more to go out to spend the money. nicole: right. that labor force participation rate is so frustrating. will today's jobs report seal the deal for fed on rate move? we have gary b. smith, kadina group. president and fox news contributor. joins us on the telephone.

gary, i will kick it off what jpmorgan and bank of america are saying, then you tell me what you're thinking. jpmorgan thinks the fed stands pat and bank of america think they actually raise. both put the hedge if one way or another and they can change their stance. jpmorgan says the fed doesn't raise this round and bank of america says yes. what do you say, gary. >> just in response to what banks said, basically saying they're going to raise unless they don't raise and we can go really either way and we'll see what happens so. they have certainly walked a fine line of never being completely wrong. i'll tell you what i think has happened, is going to happen. always interesting, first of all when you look at jobs number because it is never really jobs number per se because that gets revised up or down in coming months. what is really, i think fed is going to look at, how the market reacts to the jobs number. say the jobs number is 220,000.

if the market foes shooting up, everyone thinks oh, my gosh, that's great. i think that actually gives fed more impetus to raise rates. they will think okay, it is okay out there. the psyche of the investing public is okay. now is probably a food -- good time to raise rates. >> if the fed raises rates two weeks time what message does that send to other central banks, imf? look at global environment we're in. it would be daring for our central bank to hike. >> totally agree but now i'm wondering if other economies are looking at the u.s. as an isolated example because, you know, as well as we're doing, and gdp growth, at least we're chugging along, it could be a little bit better, you got flip side. some european economies, even australia, might be sinking into recession. china of course we talked about many times. i'm not sure they view a fed raise as something, oh, okay,

well, it is okay overall. i think now everyone is operating independently. nicole: gary, i'm not sure that the fed watches the markets, and to your point, i get what you're saying, unless it's a big move. unless it's 500 points or a thousand points. if it is a few hundred points, understanding psyche of investors, investors have become very accustomed to volatility of late. i thought we were talking on tight wire trying to guess one of those things which way we will fall. big picture, nouriel roubini saying that the fed won't because he is worried about global growth story slowing, china being a big factor that that in fact could factor in. what do you think about that? >> i don't often agree with roubini because he operates at fringe. in this case i do. i think the fed is worried about the volatility. i think they're worried about the psyche out there. i think they're going to make a conclusion, you know what? things are so wild out there, we

expectations due out for the jobs report, for those listening on the radio 220,000 new jobs are expected to be added to the economy in the last month with the unemployment rate ticking down to 5.2%. that is what is priced into the market. we'll see what numbers bring us at 8:30. here is where we stand ahead of the report. we're looking at weakness. selling underway in sharp way on heels of weakness in europe. dow industrials expected to open down about 170 points. it started in europe, stocks lower there, britain, france, germany down better than 1% throughout the morning. >> the best way for the republicans to win is if i win the nomination and go directly against whoever they put up. and for that reason i have signed the pledge. maria: yes, he has done it. donald trump ruling out a possible third party bid by signing a pledge not to do it. casino giant steve wynn playing a big role in trump's decision.
