what to do. >> yeah, that's great. >> and confidence to understand. maria: we have a stronger market. thank you, so appreciate it, sandra smith, as well as scott brown. stuart varney, have a great show. stuart: thank you, maria. obama humiliated. russia tells america get out of syria. good morning, everyone. it came overnight, the demand that u.s. war planes stop overflights in syria immediately and russia's parliament okays sending troops there. stuart: it's a takeover, it's a potential military confrontation, an aggressive putin changed mideast power and russian air strikes in syria have begun. got it. there's big news on the domestic political front as well. the teamsters decline to endorse hillary clinton and the union says it's willing to talk to donald trump.
9:01 am
and the dow will be up big at the opening bell, but with the developments in syria, why isn't gold rallying, too? it's actually a tad lower in price. look at this, that is now a hurricane and it's called joaquin, it's going to dump a lot of rain on the eastern seaboard. yes, this is another big day. "varney & company" about to begin. ♪ shocking developments in the middle east. i'm going to set this up with a timeline, okay? president obama, vladimir putin that grim face-to-face meeting. that was monday. putin says he's considering whether to carry out air strikes against isis in syria. now, just two days later russia's parliament has formally approved the use of their troops there, putin has demanded the u.s. stop overflights in syria and get
9:02 am
out of the country. now, officials tell fox that russian air strikes have started in syria. joining me on the phone, national security expert kt mcfarland. what's wrong with the statement, president obama humiliated and america in retreat. >> i don't think it goes far enough. yes, in the next day or two we could have a military confrontation in the middle east. you're right to put it on a timeline. putin went to the u.n.,says the syrian mess is america's fault and trying to defeat isis is a joke. putin announces a new coalition, russia, iran, iraq, assad, syria and today the russians authorized the use of military force in syria and started overflights in syria and told american aircraft in effect, america get out of syria. i'm concerned that tomorrow's headline could be that if we
9:03 am
haven't gotten out of syria, the russian shoots down. i don't think they could shoot down an aircraft, but shoot down a drone and say it did this by mistake. stuart: the danger is the possibility of a confrontation between russian planes and american planes, that's at least a possibility, isn't it? >> it's definitely a possibility. it's like the poker expression, i understand the odds, it's the stakes i don't like. stuart: the stakes, okay. what do you mean by that? >> what happens if putin does shoot down a drone or an american aircraft? if we're still flying 72 hours from now, 48 hours. they'll say it's a mistake, a faulty communication we told you we were going to do this and told you to get out. then what happens? i have he an always worried that putin, who thing, five, seven, years from now, russia
9:04 am
is a declining power, but on the way it gets to that demise, the great arc of history as obama keeps saying, putin can be a dangerous leader. he's a gambler and he went to the u.n. and looked in obama's eyes and said i know i can play this. stuart: we will of course have further coverage of what this confrontation possibility later, and indeed, throughout the program today. thanks, kt. >> thank you. stuart: i'm now going to segue to the weather, this is important, joaquin is now officially a hurricane, sustained winds of about 75 miles an hour. it's about 250 miles east of the bahamas, it will look like it will hit the east head on. they're getting ready with sand bags in carolinas and look at it as it approaches. look at dow futures, we are going to open higher today despite what's happening in russia.
9:05 am
we're up about 160, maybe 170 points when that dow jones average gets rolling about 25 minutes from now, however, look at this. this is the price of gold, as we speak, it's actually down $12 at 1114, despite all that's happening right now in syria. i did get numbers from europe, prices are falling there. no inflation, it's deflation. maybe that's what's pulling gold down right now. we were looking at the markets, here is shah galani, he's the guy who said, just, what, six weeks ago, look out for a 20% drop for the dow jones industrial average. now we're going to open up about 160 today. have you changed your forecast? >> no, and given the syria events, i think that's going to put the pressure on the markets today. the futures are nice and strong right now, interesting to see if the market stays up once it opens and maintain any height. i think it's just-- if it opens up that high, it
9:06 am
will come back down. there's no strength, nothing globally propelling growth. stuart: so you're holding to a 20% drop, what you talked about before, still down 20%. >> it could be worse. if you break through the august lows, i think we're going lower than 20%. stuart: and you think that the syria situation developing right now, that could be a negative for stocks on wall street? >> that's a tinder box waiting to explode. stuart: anything could happen. >> absolutely. stuart: and you have planned parenthood shall the president and cecile richards. there was a vigorous give and take, taxpayer funding of planned parenthood after the disturbing and contested videos. congress woman mia love was in the hearings and joins us now. we followed the hearings closely and it seemed as if the democrats made this into a woman's health issue not a moral issue of chopping up baby parts. there's a suspicion that
9:07 am
republicans lost. what do you say? >> i say the other side is doing a very good job distracting, distorting and diverting us to think it's women's health. the numbers that planned parenthood put um up on their open, 2005 to 2013 a 50% reduction in cancer screening, 42% reduction in breast exams and abortions, doing to children while they're alive. everyone in the ideas, look at the videos and make the decisions themselves. we've found out that the videos are unaltered and no tampering. every person has a decision to make. stuart: i want to tell how i feel. forgive me for this, how i felt when i saw the videos, in particular the sound of the
9:08 am
woman describing how to crush a fetus, to maximize the availability of spare parts. i don't think that was an ideological issue, whether you're left or right, to me it's a humanity issue and i have this reaction within me that says that's wrong, and i don't want to pay for that. how about you? >> it's one of those things that when you see, you understand that people have different views and you understand that people have different ways of getting to the same goal, but it really tests your belief in humanity when you have other sides advocating for the torture of these children. understand that they are opening up a child and trying to extract brain tissue while that child is still alive. we have a decision we have to make whether we as americans are going to accept the torturing of these children or whether we're going to stand up and say, you know what? we have to address this and i'm not going to let people pull
9:09 am
the wool over my eyes into thinking this is more about women's health and less about torturing babies. and we've made clear we're going to take the funding and put it into other clinics so we can address women's health issues. i'm a woman, i'm a mother, these are things that are important to me, but most importantly, life is important to me and it should be important to every single human being. stuart: mia love, thank you for being with us today. shall appreciated. >> thank you, stuart, thank you. stuart: and by the way, 11:15, this program today, carrie kupak, she's part of the organization that tested videos. and tesla, we have news flowing all over. they're making waves in the car world again and unveiled a new suv. lauren simonetti--
9:10 am
>> they took the wraps off the model last night it's electric and future models will start around $80,000. well, it has lots of bells and whistles. the windshield extends through the roof and drive it and see through to the sky at the same time and the wing-like doors opening upward and outward demanage how tight the parking space it. long winded twitter users, you might like this way, the way they can tweet messages longer than 140 characters, one way to do that is not to include. stuart: why would i like that? why do i. >> trying to figure out what's so funny. stuart: you said i would like this one. why? >> long-winded twitter users. why are you so sensitive. ashley: and with the long-winded--
9:11 am
>> you lost your place in the script. >> i did, where are we? you can send more than 140 characters and they're looking for ways to attract more users. ralph lauren is stepping down, staying at the company, but no longer the ceo, that will be filled by the president of old navy, larson. he helped old navy expand and-- >> i'm told no talkback. >> you're long-winded, stuart. stuart: you can watch lauren and nicole on fbn a.m. and the keystone pipeline, the teamsters hold often doorsing her on the run for the presidency. get this, teamsters want to meet with donald trump. earthquake had joaquin, the first major storm to threaten the eastern seaboard this year.
9:15 am
>> news alert. expected at some point later today, the state department's going to release another round of hillary clinton's e-mails. so far, about 200 of those released already have been found to contain classified information. more e-mails later. got it in. the teamsters, they seem to be very unhappy with hillary clinton because she doesn't want to build the keystone pipeline. by the way, the teamsters want to at least talk with donald trump. joining us now is a columnist with the fiscal times, this is the world turned upsidedown. >> and actually the expression, total puzzlement. hillary is struggling to attract the core constituencies that she needs. women, democrats and unions failed to endorse here. and they want to talk to donald trump, and said pro worker
9:16 am
things and that's not surprising. they're holding their fire. stuart: they want joe biden to run. >> hillary's problem she's constantly behind the curve. behind the curve on this latest, you know, going against the cadillac tax. bernie sanders has already opposed it, that's a pro union move. she was behind the curve on opposing keystone to appease environmentalists and angers-- she gets no credit. ashley: the pacific trade deal. she backed out of it. >> she gets no credit for taking the positions because somebody is there ahead of her and she kind of continually steps on the feet of of her constituents. i have said from the beginning, this is a terribly managed campaign, it is a terribly managed campaign. stuart: what struck me more than anything else, the willingness of the teamsters,
9:17 am
as says james rosen, fox news, he got inside the door of the committee. he says some of the committee members want to talk to donald trump. that's the world turned upside down. the teamsters talking with a republican donald trump. back to ronald reagan, i believe. >> you go back far enough and the unions were not always a solid democrats voting black, right? they're pushing the democrats to come out in favor of policies that they want. the cadillac tax which hillary came out in opposition to, that's actually opposed by republicans and democrats, many republicans and now most democrats, i would say. but it certainly hurts unions and hurts businesses. maybe it's a bad tax, but unfortunately, it's about an 80 billion dollar hole in the obamacare balance sheet so that's not easy to fill. >> donald trump worked with the union. and working in new york and elsewhere, and he has to work with the unions.
9:18 am
>> and he loves them. they love him. stuart: he loves everybody. >> yes, exactly. marco rubio, et cetera. stuart: we'll get to in in a second. liz, in the end do you think that hillary gets the nomination? >> i think if joe biden is in he will a he get the nomination. stuart: do you think that president obama wants him to get? >> i think he does, a lot going on in the white house and what you here in various corners. and the e-mail things, i don't know where the leaks are coming from, but appears that perhaps the white house has not been partial. and, yeah, obama feels that biden with carry on his legacy and he would do that. >> it's a fascinating campaign,
9:19 am
glad you could look at that. donald trump, here is what he said about marco rubio where he was on. >> this clown marco rubio, i've been so nice to him. i've been so nice. so nice. you wouldn't take medicine without checking the side effects. hey honey. huh. the good news is my hypertension is gone. so why would you invest without checking brokercheck? check your broker with brokercheck.
9:23 am
>> well, as you heard before the break, donald trump took direct aim at marco rubio and called him a clown. here is a sound bite from the o'reilly factor last night. roll that tape. >> i think it's fair. i think the word mature is not appropriate, but i think it's certainly fair. i think that, you know, as i'm leading every poll and most polls i'm leading very big, in new hampshire, in iowa. if you look at what just came down, south carolina, the polls all, number one, it's not going to be a question of nice. i think i'm a nice person, i have great relationships, you know me well, i help people, i love people. it's not a question of that, it's a question of competence. stuart: marco rubio said about trump that he is sensitive and that's his problem. sandra: and trump says rubio has the worst voting record and weak on immigration. he tried to go at rubio, what
9:24 am
rubio is running on, but listen, trump said he was boycotting box news-- fox news and wasn't going on, that lasted for six days. rubio's response, it brought his personality out and he was smiling and interesting to hear his reaction. ashley: and he said to o'reilly, maybe the word clown is not appropriate, but he attacked me and he comes back, i'm leading big in the polls. stuart: bottom line, donald trump is focusing on rubio, a major challenger of the nonpoliticians and rubio is the challenger. ashley: other than carson. stuart: carson is not a politician, a brain surgeon. sandra: rubio is running on his immigration plan, right? and donald trump launched his campaign purposeful or not on his immigration plan and plans to build a wall. stuart: it's entertaining, case closed.

9:31 am
sentiment that just came up recently it is better too. what we have to do is wash away the innuendo in everything and the economy, in the next week we have a lot of data. that is what we will watch for to continue this rally. stuart: i have another one for you, what about the russia situation, russia, syria, overflight and bombing, with any impact on american stocks? >> not so far. you said early on you will see the market what the u.s. reaction will be. if this tells you anything they won't do anything so i am not worried about big reaction going on now. stuart: dan says look, the administration probably won't do anything, therefore probably no impact on stocks on wall street. >> and that is the problem, markets look at that in decision. and in syria, and the longer-term problem in the
9:32 am
markets. that is more disarray and instability in the area. stuart: we hear you. how about sandra smith, i want to look at the price of gold. when you have international situations developing you would think the price of gold would go up but it is down. >> there's a lot of bullish happenings in the price of gold and precious metal, china announced, 1% in august, we see other countries following suit, russia, kazakhstan, their reserves up, gold prices going down, just such a trend to the downside in gold. the prices are effective. >> is being dragged down, the chinese demise if you hit production, hitting highs, also gold in the markets. stuart: numbers out of europe today, deflationary, prices going down, you don't buy gold when prices are going down. >> the anticipation of the federal reserve raising rates
9:33 am
that would strengthen the u.s. dollar and the week for gold. >> two minutes into the session, we are up and running and as expected the dow industrials are up 175 points as we speak, 16-2 is where we are. let's get to individual stocks. to as law unveiled its first suv, it is up 1.5%. maybe -- >> that is fine. people love the way it looks and everyone is talking about it. people spend that kind of sash for this suv, remember women make up 53% of the smallest you the market. this is a nice vehicle, third row seating, great for families and a lot of likability factor is. ashley: momentum going with low gas price environment. stuart: i don't know why stand right insists on addressing me
9:34 am
about the female issue, don't know why you're doing that. >> clinton make all the decisions when buying a car. stuart: never, i know my place. >> it starts at $130,000. this model is the same model, presold, starting at 130. when they go over the bun, all of them are the same. bernard: when do you own tesla, no they don't. there you go. i have some big names in you know them, as they have been recently been down. i am going to start with apple. where is it now? not much change, up $0.80, 109 on apple, the high was 134. facebook reached $99 per share, it is up nearly 2%. amazon, do you remember the high
9:35 am
was 580? this morning it has bounced a little, $9 higher at 505. caterpillar, the high was $107 a share and that was not long ago. had many of those bargains, you consider them bargains, consider that lost? >> i bought more apple and 107, i thought it would be better, the last rally that hasn't, i am a little nervous. there are names with buying in here, i would add i would like to add i wouldn't fit pickup facebook levels and we will get a chance to see all of those at lower levels. stuart: let's show our viewers something they will like, all 30 of the dow stocks, is a sea of green. skies are blue, seas are green, trying to get on screen. as sea of green, how sweet it is, that includes microsoft.
9:36 am
and ralph lauren hiring the old navy ceo to replace him. what is that doing to ralph lauren's stock which gets the old navy sheet. >> we are seeing big moves in both stocks. in the bronx in 1939, jewish immigrant parents changed his name to ralph lauren, founded ralph lauren, stepping down as ceo and brings in the head of old navy to run ralph lauren sold navy is very successful, ralph lauren himself stays and an executive role heads the design team, stephan warrants and comes in and what we are seeing here is number one loser on the isn't the is the gap. i am sorry, the guy is leaving and so ralph lauren, we are seeing a surge, number 2 best performer and the isn't he 500. stuart: that is the way it works. watch 5:00 tomorrow morning, fox
9:37 am
business network, lauren and nicole right there bright and early, got to watch that. could the dow up again please. i know you can see it on the bottom right of your screen but i want to make a big deal out of this, the dow is up 233 points, not withstanding problems in syria with the russians and all of that, last day of the quarter dow is up 230, then we have energy, cheap as you know, it is coming, cutting jobs, what do you make of this ongoing decline in commodity prices all across the board? is it going to continue? >> the one thing about oil, the commodities, focus on oil for second, we have a lot of supply, demand is growing so until we see a change and until we see a definite change not only in our economy but the european and asian economy won't see much of a bump in oil prices, gold will continue to be down, food
9:38 am
prices, the weather has been beautiful in the u.s. that will keep pressure on that as well. ashley: the jobs lost, 15% of the work force, 700 jobs, now 86,000 jobs have been lost directly attributable to the low price of oil and gas. stuart: that is a lot of jobs. >> the price of oil dips below $30 which it possibly could, a lot of job losses and we get close to that. stuart: are you predicting a drop below 40? ashley: i am. >> like to make it a little. stuart: the sharing economy under fire again. this time in london where the city in london, london, the city, and may mandate at 5 minute wait for uber ride. i don't how that is bad news. >> it is written and e-mail to users saying this could be the end of the uber you know and
9:39 am
love and those who use uber might agree with that because right now when you search for a car one could pop up on 47th street while you are standing there in our maps distance. now they're saying you have to wait, that changes the game. i might tell cabin that time or grab somebody else. in addition the other proposed rule changes are requiring drivers to speak english and has a navigation test. ashley: the navigational tests is incredibly hard, years to pass. they are trying to level the playing field. stuart: i am surprised because boris johnson, the mayor of london is a big fan of uber and he is doing this to them. do you have any comment on this whatsoever? >> i would like to see kabul to thrive everywhere. job opportunities for all kinds of people. stuart: back on the same page. do you want to make a few extra bucks on a sunday afternoon?
9:40 am
amazon will pay you up to $25 an hour to deliver packages for them. this starts first off in seattle. ashley: doing it full time in seattle, looking for drivers in chicago, new york, baltimore, miami. stuart: it is terrific. you have a car, you have some spare, 25 -- >> you say nevada until your neighbors' shows up on your doorstep. stuart: to the big board, look at this, we are up 229 points. can i see a few smiles around his desk? we still have a see of green for the dow jones industrial stocks, all of them in the green and on the upside. intel, nike, cisco, they are the
9:41 am
9:44 am
stuart: we were up 2 and the points, now we are 194 points and that is a nice solid rally in this wednesday morning. how about the price of gold? we have this situation developing in the middle east but gold is down maybe because york reported deflationary numbers this morning. advance autoparts, a winner and a big one too after an investment firm takes a big position in it. that as an upgrade, consistent game. britain prime minister david cameron has blunt words for
9:45 am
president obama and the u.n. summit about fighting isis. watch this. >> violent extremism is not unique to anyone faith. no one should be profiled or targeted simply because of their faith. we have to recognize isil is targeting muslim communities around world's. >> you are quite right in every religion has its extremists but we have to be frank that the biggest problem we have today is the islamist extremist violence that has given birth to isil, al qaeda, and so many other groups. stuart: looked like a rebuke from the brits to me. the former assistant to president george w. bush joins us from d.c.. welcome to the program. overall would you assess president obama's appearance at the u.n. summit overall? how was the response to him and all they had to say and do? >> this is the same speech he has been giving the last seven
9:46 am
years. nothing changes, the president refuses to call it as the world sees it and radical islam is the number one threat to the united states. we have now emboldened and appeased our enemies and be quite frankly disregarded our friends and allies. we should all be in this together, allies turn to the president of the united states and shake their head and say why is it the leader of the free world refuses to lead this fight and call the enemy for what they are and you are seeing that frustration unfortunately, our president is the latest of ducks, they know that and the most dangerous time is the remaining time the president has an office. >> look what has happened today, russia tells america get out of syria, stop the overflights and then they start bombing isis themselves. i have come on strong at the top of the show and said president obama has been humiliated. emma too strong? >> you are absolutely right. the vacuum created by the lack
9:47 am
of american leadership has led to our adversaries like russia coming in and you think they're getting rid of isis out of altruism? isn't there doing this because they are leading? stuart: i don't think we will go after isis, cementing a power bloc, control moscow, that is a power bloc, doesn't necessarily be interested in buying up on isis. >> here is the end game. they are going to return bashar al-assad to power in syria. they have been an ally for years to the russians and the russians stand we go but demanding for the united states to go and the president with no response, russia is going to do what they want because they know this president better than anybody. the president reached out to vladimir putin with a reset button that he had a reject button and that is the way it is going to be for a long as this president remains. stuart: when there is danger here, our president is backed into a corner, the russians have
9:48 am
started bombing, they told american players to get out of the way, we said we won't stop those overflights. the potential is a direct clash between the two military's. that is an extraordinary thing to have happen. >> it is especially on the eve of this iran deal being cemented because now both russia and china need cash. iran won't be doing business with the united states, now they have a unique opportunity to expand their influence in that area economically, militarily, this is a dangerous time for america. stuart: what do you think is the end game in the middle east? i know that is a difficult thing to even ask but what you think? >> i think the end game is to marginalize america and israel is going to be in serious serious danger of. what we have to do is survive this president, hopefully the next president gets it and understands just like reagan did after carter we have to restore
9:49 am
military respect and power not only for our own benefit but allies as well. stuart: as you know that is 18 months away. thank you very much for joining us on a big day, thank you. kentucky county clerk kim davis, the woman who denied marriage licenses to gay couples or i should say same-sex couples, she says she had a meeting with the pope. the holy father thanking her for her courage. all rise, judge andrew napolitano on that next. surprise!!!!! we heard you got a job as a developer! its official, i work for ge!!

america. davis says the pope thanked her for her courage. a vatican spokesman would not confirm or deny the meeting. judge andrew napolitano is here. seems to me the pope if this meeting did take place the pope is injecting himself into the same-sex marriage debate in america when we thought he was backpedaling on that issue. judge napolitano: pop quiz for you. who said same-sex marriage is the law of the land in the united states? stop complaining about it and to who was that said? the pope. last week in a private meeting to the national council of catholic bishops at st. matthew's cathedral according to someone who was there and from which the press was excluded. it is the law of the land here, quote complaining about it. the same pope said that and met with her and said courage, stand firm, talking out of both sides of his mouth. why he would inject himself in a
9:55 am
