>> good friday morning to you as well. maximum sustained winds right now at 130 miles an hour. joaquin continues to lash the bahamas with torrential rain like you mentioned. we're talking about a more than a foot of rain along the islands. there has been a long period of time they're dealing with i have loo threaten conditions out here, about 24 hours. we're expecting them to continue throughout the morning hours before the storm finally moves away from the bahamas. we hope it ejects out of here. moving to the west at 3 miles per hour. a very slow-mover across the atlantic. our forecast model begins to move the storm away from the bahamas later today and tomorrow morning. we should see conditions improving there. we finally started to see computer models agreeing forecast track for the storm. taking it farther east away from the u.s. as a result of that the national hurricane center

shifted hurricane track farther off towards the east and away from the east coast of the u.s. while that of course is welcome news for anyone that lives across the eastern u.s., we'll still feel impacts with coastal flooding possible. we have warnings and advisories in effect across part of thes the eastern u.s. and mid-atlantic and. potentially flooding in the forecast in the carolinas there. head over to you, lauren. lauren: this is hard storm to predict after superstorm, sandy. people in our area are so nervous. you see them buying stuff from home depot and lowe's. good for companies that are invested in the weather. >> people still working on tear homes bouncing back from hurricane sandy. nyse group which is owned by intercontinental exchange says it expects u.s. exchanges will be open for normal trading on

live in roseburg with us to give the very latest. >> reporter: nicole as you know the students of course came here for a better life yet they did not plan on losing it, yet, yesterday 10:30 in the morning, 26-year-old chris harper mercer walked into a creative writing class in snyder hall here and opened fire. he killed nine students, injured seven. he was also killed. he used multiple weapons. we believe three handguns and one rifle, this student, hannah, heard him from a nearby classroom. >> look on her face was horrifying. i knew something was wrong. he was just, i don't know, it is hard to explain. when she looked at us, we have to get out now. one of my other classmates, everybody out, come on, let's go. we immediately began running.

>> reporter: the campus has 13,000 student, about 3,000 are full time. only one security guard who is not armed with a weapon but a can of mace. the 911 calls came in. deputies responded. unlike columbine, two officers immediately confronted the gunman, shot him dead. the campus was on lockdown. police checked all students for weapons before putting them on bus where they were reunited with family at nearby fairgrounds. douglas county sheriff would describe what happened but would not use mercer's name. >> you will never hear me mention his name. we would encourage media and to avoid using it. we encourage you to not repeat it. we encourage you not to glorify and create sensationalism for him. he in no way deserves this.

>> reporter: now mercer grew up in southern california with his mother. neighbors say he was quiet kid. rode an red bike with camouflage pants, with black boots. he liked target shooting. we don't know why, why did this happen? did he have bad grades? did he not like his professor? was he trying to even a score with a bully in the classroom? we don't know. one witness did say he told victims, students to lie down and state their religion before firing. we understand from relatives one student tried to stop him from getting into an adjacent classroom. >> tried to block the door to keep the gunman from coming in. gets shot three times. hits the floor. looks up at gunman says, it is my son's birthday today. gets shot two more times. >> -- okay. he will have to learn to walk again. he walked away with his life.

that is much more than so many other people did. >> reporter: this is being handled as a mass shooting incident bit coroner, who will identify the victims, letting next of kino before the public find out their names. we also know they have, institute ad search warrant on a home here. we should find out home about mercer and why he did this heinous act. back to you. lauren: william la jeunesse, this is a chilling story. hearing people there talk about it, it is really tough. thanks for all the details. nicole: indeed. meanwhile investors bracing for the most closely watched economics report. that is the jobs report for september. it comes out three hours from now, 8:30 this morning. 203,000 jobs expected to be added to non-farm payrolls. jobless rate expected to hold steady at 5.3%. 183,000 jobs added in august. that was below expectations. whether the number was a

you have the wind, maximum stained winds at 130 miles per hour. the storm surge, dealing with, life-threatening conditions across the bahamas. it is slow-mover. moving at three miles per hour. they have dealing with the life-threatening conditions many, many hours, 24 hours. the storm begins to pull away throughout the day. it will be lashing throughout the morning hours and early afternoon hours. here is look at computer models. finally they're clustering together of the east coast of the u.s. we have a few outlyer. they are not reliable models. most are keeping storm off the east coast of the u.s. as a result of that the national hurricane center changed the forecast track, keeping it away from the east coast of the u.s. of course very welcome news. however, flooding will still be possible. coastal flooding is a concern. we have advisories and watches in effect out here across the coast of mid-atlantic and northeast. not directly associated with joaquin but because of a lot of tropical moisture in place across southeastern u.s.,

creative writing class and began to open fire, shooting professor first. he tolds according to witness, that the students to lie down and stand up if they were christian. if they were, he shot them, saying, something to the effect you're going to see god. 911 calls came in. dep itys responded. they quickly acted going into, confronting gunman and shooting him. campus remained locked down for a short period of time. they patted down students and checking backpacks, anyone related to crime. they were put on buses taken to local fairground where they were reunited with family. the county sheriff here will not use mercer's name, not give him that respect as he talked to reporters yesterday. the gunman grew up in california near los angeles along with his mother there. neighbors say he was quiet kid who liked target shooting. reporters caught up with his father yesterday who said he was shocked as anyone saying he was

with torrential rain, powerful wind. national hurricane center says that the category 4 storm could grow even stronger. meteorologist maria molina is in the fox business weather center. looking at all her models. good morning to you, maria. >> good morning, nicole. looks like the storm started to turn north. moving towards the northwest now, very slowly at three miles per hour. it continues to lash the bahamas early this morning with hurricane conditions and was doing so yesterday morning. so a very long period of time we've been looking hurricane conditions and life threaten conditions across central bahamas, potentially looking 25 inches of rainfall out here, a very dangerous storm surge. maximum sustained winds at 130 miles per hour. those conditions continue throughout the morning hours, potentially through the afternoon hours as well. eventually the storm pulls away from the bahamas as we head into saturday. you can see forecast models finally coming into better agreement, taking storm east of

the u.s. so that has allowed the national hurricane center to also increase confidence that the storm should reserve and way away from the eastern u.s. that said we'll still look at impacts along coastal areas with beach erosion and coastal flooding possible. nicole. nicole: thank you for the indepth report. i like to see how it moves away from land. as maria noted, high winds, flooding, those are things people have to watch. lauren: brings back images of sandy to folks, especially in our area. let's get caught up on global action starting in asia. chinese markets still closed but nice gains for hong kong up 2.3%. kospi down half of 1%. nicole: china closed for the week, doing other measures, lowering minimum to buy a house. lowering taxes when you buy autos and boosting investment into macaw. note that going forward. -- macau.
