congress this year alone. >> yes. lou: have you seen any substantive response in policy either from the white house or from congress? >> the thing that has happened in the congress, on the senate side as well as on the house side, there's absolutely bipartisan support that we really have a problem. where the arm wrestling begins is what are we going to do about it? and then unfortunately, at times, we get into political bickering which took place today over refugees from syria, yes, refugees from syria, no. how do we do this? and that was unfortunate. we spent 30 or 40% on that issue alone, when there are so many other issues to deal with. lou: the chairman of the house foreign affairs committee congressman ed royce pointed out the 9/11 commission early on recommended that never, never should we permit sanctuary for terrorists. we have done precisely the inverse, have we not?
11:20 pm
>> yeah, absolutely. we did the right thing going to afghanistan right away, kill and capture, eliminate the sanctuary. this thing here, we didn't go after it with the capabilities that we could do, organize this thing properly. it is reasonable for the president to say let's support the indigenous forces on the ground, let's not put back in the combat brigades, as opposed to going all-in to support hem, lou, we got feeble support and doing incremental additions over the course of 15 months. not only has the sanctuary stayed there. what it's enabled isis to do is have affiliations, training the systems with nine regions in the country, and worldwide following where they're beginning to undermine those attacking the united states. we saw that in lebanon. we saw it with a russian airliner and saw it most dramatically recently in paris. this is an organization that has a global strategy and is

executing it right before our eyes. lou: you know, as you are illustrating, talking about the terrorist attacks that they've carried out successfully, in each instance globally, they are also pursuing and succeeding, driving a military organization, an army through syria and through iraq with, great success, and at best it's a stalemate there now. this is really, if you would, if you would, give us your assessment how strong they have to be in order to do that? >> well, what they've managed to do, they're conducting a conventional war in iraq and syria, they still have resiliency, recruiting at approximately the same levels they recruited at in the past. they are able to provide logistic support for the operations they're conduct. and, of course, they've got fierce determination in terms
11:22 pm
of what they're doing. this consolidation of effort enabled all the expansion to take place in those 15 months. here we have an organization, and this is unprecedented, lou, fighting the conventional war at the same time conducting terrorist attacks to countries, their citizens are attacks them. that's as if fighting germany during world war iity and nazis are conducting attacks in new york, boston and washington, d.c. >> they maintain they have been contained. general, good to have you here. great to talk with you, thank you. >> always good talking with you, lou. lou: good talking to you, jack. be sure to vote in our poll tonight. cast your vote at loudobbs.com.
