bombers, one suspect armed with a gun. no one has claimed responsibility for today's attacks, it is the first major attack in jakarta since the bombings of 2009. starbucks issued a statement saying in part, quote, this store and all starbucks stores will remain closed out of an abundance of caution until further notice. >> lauren: also breaking news out of europe about fiat chrysler, shares have been suspend after they fell 8% in italy, two chicago dealerships have filed a lawsuit against the auto maker. the suit claims get this, fiat chrysler offered dealers large amounts of money to report unsold vehicles as sold. the company said it has not been served with the lawsuit and they did decline to comment further. we will keep you posted on the story as we learn more. >> nicole: rough start for the

market this year. dow jones industrial average into correction territory. down 10% from last year's highs. so far this year are down more than 7%. nasdaq off 10.06% and if you put transports more than 10% on those. stocks close to the bottom. we bring gary. gary, what is going on? people are getting panicked? should i sell, should i sell? now can't be the time to sell, right? >> gary: we've talked about it many times over the last few months that we thought were going much lower, i will tell you the good news near term. i think almost 16 or 18 points since two days before new year's we are overdue to bounce.

i think this is going to be a bare market of consequence. i think we will be in the 14's in the dow or even lower, i'm sure market is forecasting severe market downs. >> lauren: is it a global economic that everyone is fearing right now? >> gary: there was really no specific reason except continuance and all the talk about china and this and that. for me to watch transport at three-year lows tell me everything i need to know about the market thinks going forward and that's good enough for me, i'm expecting the first six months of the year not withstanding some vicious bouncing, we are going to head even lower.

i think you have to be careful. >> nicole: tonight is our republican debate. how do politics play into the markets this year? >> gary: if the markets go lower and we go into recession i think you're going to hear the words president trump. i think the markets and the economy will want a businessman and a businessman that's been successful and in a year where i have to tell you it's somewhat on the weird side of what's going on, there's a very good chance it's going to happen. the numbers keep staying up and they keep getter better. >> gary kaltbaum. >> lauren: oil prices set the tone for stocks. crude is the international benchmark. that traded below $30 yesterday for the first time in a decade.

we have phil flynn, fox business contributor. continue to hoover the multiyear lows, where do we go from here? are we going to have 10- 20-dollar oil like banks are saying? >> phil: i don't think so. we are seeing signs that demand is still strong in china. we did get weak data out of germany and data. we are not seeing demand be that poor right now. we definitely have a glut of supply. you look at yesterday's inventory numbers in the united states, we have a record amount of everything. if you put it all together, if you have crude oil, gasoline, indian oil, we have more in storage than we have ever had before. the problem is that we are not going to be able to maintain those vels because production

will fall because prices are falling. >> nicole: there's no cohesion between opec members anymore. you saw the bill and gasoline two weeks in a row and that was a huge part of the story. i know we follow oil but when you break it down, that's a key part of it. going forward, why does anything change? why can't we see $20 next? >> phil: because we are seeing probably the most devastation we have ever seen and the energy industry when it comes to cut baks. energy companies have cut back 551% of energy spending. that's never happened before. we canceled in just the last 12 months 27 billion barrels of future production, you know, at some point these wells that were producing, what they're going to do is decline.

if we get a bump up in demand, this oversupply will be gone. >> lauren: phil flynn, thank you so much. >> nicole: now for asian markets. rachel live in beijing. >> good morning. it wasn't as bad as it could have been. markets gaining late. shanghai composite closed in the positive. nikkei fell more than 4% and then in the afternoon it did recover closing 2.8%. the bang of korea decided to keep interest rates on change as we expected. we saw the south korean kospi. hang seng half a percent and the shanghai composite in the region

about primary politics in the other party during primaries. that's really not what presidents ought to be talking about in state of the union addresses. >> nicole: president obama making comments that were unmistakably targeted at donald trump, though he did not mention the gop front runner by name in tuesday's address th was the first time paul ryan introduced the president at a state of the union address since he succeeded john boehner as the house speaker two months ago. >> lauren: iran has release it had 10 u.s. sailers who drifted into international waters but iranian government is using footage from that incident as a propaganda tool. that includes images of sellers on their knees with their hands behind their heads and a video showing a sailer apologying. earlier vice president joe biden he said no apology was necessary. >> there's no apology, when you have a problem with the boat, you apologize that that the boat

had a problem? there's no looking for apology. >> lauren: supposedly shows one of the sailers actually apologizing. >> it was a mistake, that was our fault and i apologize for our mistake. >> lauren: the department would assess whether it's authentic. images of prisoners are not supposed to be shown under the terms of the geneva convention. >> nicole: there were at least three winners in power ball drawing. officials said winning tickets were sold in california, florida, and tennessee in the nearly $1.6 billion power lottery. california lottery says the winning six numbers had been purchased at a vient just outside the los angeles the identity is not yet known. it could be several hours whether there are other winners

and you could win something smaller too. >> lauren: you think they'll invest it in the stock market? i hope not. this is what we saw overnight in asia. down arrows across the board. dax futures down 200, nicole. >> nicole: major averages are in correction territory. 10% off last year. dow futures up 26, s&p futures up 3, nasdaq futures up 2 right now. >> lauren: key commodities. oil prices, gold up $4.80 at 10.91 an ounce. >> nicole: watching the u.s. dollar here. for euro is stronger, everything is weaker. >> lauren: yield on the ten-year treasury is down more than 3 basis points at 2.06%.

>> nicole: you could see people with a flight to safety going into bonds, that's a safe spot. we have a bad news for gopro. goproannounced job cuts. the company said it only expects revenue of $435 million during the fourth quarter. the reason was slower than expected sales at the retailers and the company also announced it would cut 7% of the workforce of more than 1500 employees and the shares had been plunging to the premarket to the tune about 26%. >> lauren: wow. >> nicole: it has been under pressure. >> lauren: 105 jobs at gopro. people familiar with the matter say that goldman plans to cut as much as 10% later this quarter. that's more than usual numbers of underperforming workers that

goldman typically cuts. many have shrunk businesses to help offset the extra capital they're not required to hold. >> nicole: all right. earning season for banks gets under way today. jpmorgan chase kicks it off. we will certainly have those for you. analysts look for banks 1.25 a share. just under $23 billion. maria bartiromo asking dimon where the gross is with the dow jones industrial and s&p 500 seeing their worst start of the year ever. so let's take a look. >> obviously a lot of eminent activity. there's nothing wrong with that. that's just another form of economic activity which could be good. i think you see companies spend more when they have more reason, they get stronger. >> maria: we are sort of bumping along the bottom? >> i think we are growing, we have had moderate growth for five years. >> nicole: we will have

tickets in last night's powerball lottery drawing, we will tell you where the tickets were sold. >> nicole: and in sports the new york giants name a head coach, we will tell you who it is. we have a great line for you from beijing. welcome to fbn:am, first look at what's moving in today markets, what to expect for the day ahead . >> lauren: absolutely. a series of explosions rocking indonesia's capital killing at least seven people. we are going to show you the surveillance video. explosion out of starbucks coffee. heavy gun battles followed the blast, police say five of the dead are the attackers including three suicide bombers. this video shows one isn't, the guy in white armed with a gun, no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks just yet. it is the first major attack in jakarta since the bombings of two hotels there back in 2009.

starbucks issued a statement saying, quote, this store and all other starbucks stores in jakarta will remain close out of an abunked ands of caution until further notice. they're trying to get a handle of the situation. >> nicole: 360-point selloff. we are going to our business reporter rachel to tell us more. good morning, rachel. >> rachel: good morning, shanghai composite bucking the trend over here in asia today and closing in positive territory while the rest of the rest of asian markets closed lower. japan's nikkei was the hardest hit at one point 4% recovering some of those losses. the south korean kospi was down almost 1%. hang seng almost half a percent. bright spot in the region.

they actually started the session with a selloff tbhu the afternoon, investors were feeling good and ended up closing the day with a 2% gain. >> nicole: live in beijing breaking it down, we thank you so much. >> lauren: stocks plunging yesterday pushing dow to correction territory. down 1300 points alone. blue chips and s&p down more than 7% each. nasdaq up almost 10%. gary, is there any place where you can park your money and find some sort of return? >> gary: well, that's the million-dollar question. lawyer lair i know it >> lauren: i know it is. tbar

>> gary: i guess it depends on your time frame. if your son or lawyer are about to go to college, i guess cash is the best place to be right now. most people aren't. i would say, i would do two things. i would look at stocks that you love and have always wanted to buy and on sale. it's probably time, not quite but time to start looking at the amazons of the world and google. if you're looking for safe places right now, i think you go into treasury bills, you can go into utilities and that's about it. >> nicole: when you talk about technology in particular and when you say when is the right time to buy, some people love netflix, amazon. you wait a little more, we are

already in correction mode. >> gary: well, i don't know, i'm just trying to see how much a stock of netflix is down already. i'm going to guess it's down 20-25% from the highs. that's probably a good time to start. yeah, i'm looking here, netflix was 124 back, you know, just a few days ago. i thought i was looking at a one-year chart. it was at 135,000. 106. that stock is down over 25%. that's probably a good time to buy your first bit. let's just say you wanted to buy a thousand dollars worth of netflix, now $300 and put in another 300 and put another 300 if it drops 30-35%. >> lauren: they're in 190 countries now. and the market story is very much a global one too. the fear of the economy slowing is taking stocks down.

the dow holding on and the nasdaq down 7 points. >> lauren: we have seen all year stocks following the price of oil. thirty dollars, 75 cents. >> nicole: al jazeera america is shutting down. the cable news will be gone after less than three years of operation in america. their decision was because their business model was not sustainable in the media marketplace. the network did mention that they plan to expand digital services with more details in the coming months. al jazeera america launched back in 2013 after buying current tv for about $500 million. al jazeera is owned by family.

correction territory, down 10% from last year's high. s&p down more than 7%. nasdaq down more than 6% and down more than 10% each. we have gary b. smith, fox news contributor joining us on the telephone again. and what are you going to tell the clients for the month of january and february? how worried are you? what do you tell them? [laughter] >> gary: what i tell them is a different i am, i am worried. anyone that's actively in the market always has to be looking over the shoulder. for clients, i think, the vice is always the same, be patient, my gosh, we have been straight up almost for five years, if stocks have to go on sale at some point, so they are going to come down and come in and be able to pick up winners.

i say, look, we have been getting out of equities for a little while now. you and i have been talking a few months. i started pairing back. now is the time to look at the unobviously places. everyone hate oil, they think they're going to zero dollars a barrel. the best place to look in as company exxon. exxon is going to weather the storm regardless of what happens with the price of oil. it's also weathered the storm better than the price of oil has, i mean, exxon has stayed pretty steady. that's one place to look. as we talked earlier a nice utility like vpu, van guard utility etf would be a great place to hide right now. >> lauren: some of the discraigsary stocks right now, discretionaries were big winners last year, what do you make of that?

>> gary: we talked the fang stocks. they carried the market last year. if it wasn't for those stocks the market would have been pretty awful last year. those stocks were bound to come in, look, but i say if you use a stock every day and spend money on it, look for a place to buy, probably between the three of us, we probably use amazon every single day, we probably use netflix every single day, we certainly use google every single day. when you see an amazon down say, 30% from its highs, i think it's time to start buying. >> nicole: do we see 14,000, 17,000, 18,000, what do you think we see first, quickly? >> gary: i think we see 15,000 before we see 17,000. >> nicole: gary b. smith kadina group. >> gary: you bet. >> lauren: oil prices set tone for stocks, glut of crude. that's the international benchmark.

traded below $30 a barrel yesterday for the first time in over a decade. phil flynn back with us right now. phil, what's your take on the oil market today? >> phil: well the crude story is the big story falling below $30 a barrel. number one, under wti because the market expects the next week we are going to be seeing iranian oil come back on to the market. but there's a more positive part of that story, the other part of that story is that the u.s. for the first time since the 1970's exported oil. so wti is now getting back into the global marketplace. it's reasserting itself as the global benchmark and it's putting that spread back where it used to be historically. >> nicole: you know, phil, yesterday when we looked at news out of china, the other piece of good news was the imports in china on oil, so what do you

think of that? delve into that going into the week or month ahead? >> phil: i think when you look at the chinese economy and stock market, there's two different stories. you do have a growing consumption in china as they're trying to get away from the industrial sector and move to consumer sector. they're buying so many cars in the country they don't even have room in the streets. everybody wants a car. you have to be a lottery ticket to buy a car in one of those cities. i think at the end of the day, the china demand story isn't going away. my concern is because there's been this short-term hicuup in the market, it's going to start going away and even goldman sachs is talking about $20 a
