kennedy: donald trump got beaten handily in iowa even though he was leading in the polls in iowa. he's fleegd new hampshire. a new survey has him wing after 24 points. but after the iowa surprise should we still believe in polls at all? here is an expert. the co-founder and executive editor of real clear politics. welcome, tom, how are you? what happened in iowa? did the polls have it wrong or is it so volatile people just change their minds at the last minute? >> i think it was a combination of things. iowa is traditionally hard to poll. a lot of the polls that came out

came out before the final 48 hours. we had a couple polls that were polling over the weekend and had that a much closer race. they had trump you have 1 points. and they also had rubio really close. there was evidence rubio was surging. a lot of the polls, "the des moines register" poll, that was taken almost 5 days before the caucus began. so that was another thing. kennedy: "the des moines register" poll is one people say is the most accurate. the pollsters left. are they have going to learn their lessons and stay put in new hampshire through the weekend? >> that's a good question. this ways happened 8 years ago on the democratic side of new hampshire. we had barack obama come storming out of iowa. he was a head of hillary clinton in new hampshire. if you remember hillary cheered up at one event.

there was a guy who stood up and said iron my shirt. there was a massive shift in the last 36 hours none of the pollsters caught because they weren't out in the field talking to potential voters. part of the reason is it's expensive for the pollsters to be in the field. polling is an expensive labor intensive process. it's not cost efficient for a lot of these firms. kennedy: in new hampshire you have got trump, cruz and rubio. but what about the next three? what is the data telling you about the three governments sitting in that next group? >> they are all bunched together. and they are within striking distance. we'll have to wait to see the next round of polls to see how iowa results affected the formation of the field there. but clearly jeb bush, chris

christie and john kasich spent a ton of time, money and effort in new hampshire and one of them, you know, is going to have to have a breakout night to continue in this race. i think if they don't have that kind of night, if they muddle through and finish fifth, sixth, seventh, there will be no rationale for them to continue their candidacy. there will be under tremendous pressure to get out of the race to clear the way for whoever, if it's rubio or whomever it is. kennedy: a lot of people said rubio is going to do better than most people anticipate. i was hearing that throughout the building. which one of those three do you expect possibly to make it into the top three in new hampshire? who has the best shot. >> john kasich is the guy people are talking about as the guy who could have that breakout performance.

chris christie to a certain degree. jeb is not out of it, but he's in a tougher position. i wouldn't count chris christie out. the other thing i'll mention, what's important about new hampshire, 40% to 45% are independents. and because we have such a competitive race on the democratic side given on you that turned out in iowa, where those independent decide to go could have a bearing on john kasich or jeb bush or chris christie to have the kind of night they are going to need. kennedy: i can't wait to see people mix it up like a smoothie. the aggregate side with the best polling data. the averages are beyond compare. thank you, appreciate it. how much do you really know about the super bowl?
