lauren: breaking news this morning, sparks fly at presidential candidate debate. bernie sanders and hillary clinton spar over how much to raise taxes. no mention of hillary's emails or a clinton foundation subpoena. we will have the highlights for you. good friday morning, for you, i'm lauren simonetti. nicole: good morning. i'm nicole petallides. donald trump takes aim at pope on visit to mexico and ted cruz takes a shot at trump's language. lauren: after wild ride, stock prices appeared to stablize for now. nasdaq futures up 33. nicole: but stocks in asia tanking again.

look at the down arrows. japan's nikkei falling 5%. hang seng and kospi dropped more than 1% each. lauren: big driver is oil prices which soared on top of an opec production cut. meanwhile gold fall back a bit after big run-up for yellow metal. nicole: pandora, the stock to watch today. the stock soared yesterday on news it was putting itself up for sale. fell shortly after-hours trading fell short of wall street's expectations. welcome to "fbn:am," first look at what is breaking in today's markets and latest breaking news in the day ahead. lauren: we'll kick it off with the breaking news this morning. democratic candidates bernie sanders and hillary clinton clashing over one-on-one debate over wall street. >> that not insult the intelligence of the american people. people aren't dumb. why in god's name does

wall street mike huge campaign contributions? i guess just for the fun of it. i guess they want to throw money around. >> i made it very clear no bank is too big to fail, no executive to powerful to jail. lauren: former secretary of state and vermont senator facing off over their support of president obama. >> criticism that we heard from senator sanders about our president i expect from republicans. i do not expect from someone running for the democratic nomination to succeed president obama. >> that is the next president of the united states has got to be aggressive in bringing people in to the political process. that is what i said. that is what i believe. [cheers and applause] lauren: nevada democratic caucuses held february 20th. followed bit south carolina primary a week after that. nicole: on the republican side, frontrunner donald trump on "varney & company" yesterday talking about pope francis's planned visit to the mexican border.

>> the pope is a very political person. i think he doesn't understand the problems other country has. i don't think he understands the danger of the open border that we have with mexico. and i think mexico got him to do it because mexico wants to keep the border the way it is because they're making a fortune and we're losing. >> meanwhile texas senator ted cruz stepping up attacks on trump and use of language. >> don't listen to donald trump. really, don't listen to donald trump. [cheers and applause] or if you do, you may have to send your kids out of the room. nicole: meantime the cruz campaign inadvertently cast a former porn star in one of his political ads. when they found out the campaign nixed the ad targeting senator marco rubio. lauren: something that did not come up in the democratic debate last night. lauren: new developments in the clinton email scandal a federal judge orders the state department to finish releasing hillary clinton private emails in four installments between

this saturday and the end of the month. meanwhile fox learned that the clinton foundation was subpoenaed last fall by state department investigators for records related to charity projects. those projects might have needed approval from the department while clinton was secretary of state. they also sought records on clinton's aide, huma abedin. nicole: concerns about economic weakness globally and fed chair janet yellen back on capitol hill reiterated her confidence in the u.s. economy. yellen also telling congress the central bank has not ruled out using negative interest rates where the fed charges depositors interest to keep money at the bank. allianz chief economic advisor mohamed he will -- el-erian commenting on the issue on "countdown to the closing bell." >> i don't think the fed will not want to go to negative rates.

fed will manage expectations. forget about the full hikes we suggested just a few weeks ago. nicole: what is next for stocks? let's ask rob morgan, chief investment officer. rob what do you think? first of all we had crazy volatility. how are you feeling now? >> nicole, it has been pretty crazy. as i told our clients at the end of december before the fed rate hike, cut back on stock allocation, rotate into defensive sectors. if they haven't done that prior to now, don't sell out. seems like we're starting to he see the end of this a little bit. we're starting to see some early cycle sectors stablizing like trucking, rails. also too we're, yesterday was day 30 of the selling stampede as my friend jeff saut likes to call it. hopefully we're starting to find a bottom here. lauren: what do you make of the fact, rob, this is lauren, good morning, we're seeing nice up arrows? dow futures up close to triple digits s that promising?

>> it is certainly promise. but it is early where we've seen a lot of volatile days where we're up 100 and down 100 by end of the day and vice versa. nicole: how much panic is needed? by the way yesterday we saw the dow down 400. we recouped some of that. today dow futures are up 100, rob. so how much fear needs to be in the market? how much do you sit it out and wait? >> i think, lauren, that back to the yellen stampede comment this seems to starting to wane a little bit. we have volatility until most of the sellers have sold out and but i think we're starting to reach that point. lauren: rob morgan, chief investment officer, sethi financial group. thanks very much. >> thanks. lauren: oil prices heading higher after touching the lowest price in nearly 13 years. the gains helped by reports that

opec members are willing to cop rate with cutting out put. phil flynn, price futures group, fox news contributor joins us with the latest. phil, we keep hearing chatter opec will cut production and price of oil will go up. those rumors definitely moved price of oil. when will that actually happen. >> i think the market takes it more serious only because the source it is coming from. the united arab emmir rate is closest ally of saud sued in the opec production war. if the united arab emirates oil minister will talk about the production cut the market has to take it more seriously. we heard from venezuela or other countries like that calling for production cuts they didn't really carry a lot of weight. now you heard not only from the u.a.e., last week we herd from the iranian oil ministers was open to talking. even russia.

if you get three in line, saudi arabia will follow. nicole: with about the fact so many banks are tied to crude and exposure they have to these energy plays, phil? thoughts on that? >> that is one of my biggest concerns and that is what i'm seeing a whole lot. people say, hey, selloff in oil will be great for the economy. i'm looking at numbers of these oil companies. you have energy companies could be losing close to the 300 or $400 million a day. you know that is unsustainable. you know just can't pump more oil and lose money on every barrel and make up for it in volume. these banks will see the stress. a lot of these banks are better protected than they have been in the past but there is still going to be a lot of pain. that is why we're seeing the panic in the banking sector. lauren: it is the worst-performing sector this year, down 18 percent. phil flynn, thank you so much. market analyst at price futures group. nicole: the u.s. and world powers he reaching an agreement to have a temporary cease-fire in syria in one week.

this comes after more than five hours of talks among the u.s., russia, iran and other countries. secretary of state john kerry says the goal is to extend delivery of humanitarian aid across syria and halt hostilities against all parties except isis. recent military operations by russia and syrian government have created tens of thousands of new refugees. lauren: cia director john brennan says isis has used chemical weapons on the battlefield. it was in an interview with "60 minutes." the group has ability to make small amounts of mustard or chlorine gas for weapons. >> we have number of instances where isil used chemical munitions on the battlefield. >> artillery shells? >> sure. >> isis has access to chemical artillery shells. >> there are reports that isis has access to chemical precursors munitions that they can use.

lauren: during the congressional hearing this week, director of national intelligence james clapper also confirmed that isis has succeeded in making and deploying chemical agents in iraq and in syria. nicole: well there's a lot of anger directed at the environmental protection agency over the handling of the toxic spill in an old gold mine in colorado yesterday. the house committee on natural resources released a report on epa and handling of the gold king mine last august. the report details how the epa and department of interior were inaccurate and misleading in their conflicting accounts of the spill. last week the epa said the spill released 880,000 pounds of toxic metals last month. new mexico announced its intent to sue the epa over the spill. lauren: investors have been dumping bank stocks recently but ceo of jpmorgan chase is a buyer. jamie dimon scooping up 500,000

shares of his firms shares according to regulatory filing that was for more than $26 million. jpmorgan shares rising more than 3% after hours on the news. dimon's news is seen as a show of confidence in his company. investors have been anxious over plunging oil prices an financial health of european banks. nicole: two billionaire activists who have been pushing for a break-up aig have gotten seats at the company's board. carl icahn and hedge fund manager john paul send dropping their public fight with the insurer with exchange for two seats. it ends threat of proxy battle after four months of bitter debate between aig and activists. icahn continues to believe aig would be better off as a smaller and simpler company. lauren: pandora media was a big mover yesterday in both directions. shares rose after it was reported that the radio service had discussions about selling itself and trading was halted. according to people familiar

with the talks, they are working with morgan stanley to reach potential buyers. after the trading pandora reported that earnings fell short of expectations. that sent shares down 6% after-hours. pandora has largest number of users for music streaming but spotify is closing in. pandora down 4 who% in the past year. nicole: here is headlines in today's edition of "wall street journal." facebook is taking steps to find and block terrorist content. facebook under government pressure is using to block users that back terrorist groups. many oil companies have little choice but to start making steep cost costs they avoided up until now. honda revives a pickup truck to lift u.s. sales. japanese automaker will revive the ridgeline pickup and doubles down on sport utility vehicles and also on trucks. lauren: coming up "star wars:

upside. ftse up 89 points. cac is up 64 and dax up 147 points. gdp numbers from the eurozone today. nicole: here in the u.s. after 400 point loss yesterday we recovered some. the dow is up 118 points. that is 3/4 of a percent. lauren: oil gaining a buck 12 at 2.33. gold down 8.50 to 12:30 nine an ounce. nicole: look at latest from the world of sports. medical director of the international olympic committee says everything that can be done is being done to combat the zika virus in brazil and provide safe conditions for athletes at olympics in rio de janeiro. the doctor said there are no health warnings against traveling to brazil except for pregnant women. he stressed no consideration is given to postponing or canceling the games in august.

nicole: stocks falling for the fifth straight day amid growing concerns about the weak global economy. allianz chief economic advisor mohamed el-erian told our own liz claman on "countdown to the closing bell," we can't count on the federal reserve to intervene. >> we've been addicted to the fed. and normally the fed comes in quite quickly with this type of volatility but not this time of around and for good reason. they really want to get out of this business. we have to understand this. we're coming to the end of the road where we could rely on central banks to bailout and to repress financial volatility. nicole: we have to get some reaction. we'll get it right from gary kaltbaum, president of kaltbaum capital management, fox news contributor. he knows what is going on and well aware of the fact that the dow is down over 10% this year led by those financials. gary, what do you make of it? >> first off i think he is right but i think he is right for another reason.

i just think markets don't care anymore what central banks do. just remember for years anytime a send training banker would say something or do something, markets would skyrocket. every time they would lower rate or tease lowering of rates markets would skyrocket. in the last two months, you had europe, you had japan, you had china all talk about and do lower rates, more printing of money and stock markets have crumbled because of it. i think just the game is up. and i think we're in different scenario. i think central bankers have to be careful what they say right now. lauren: gary, why are stocks selling off then? this morning we're looking up arrows but in general why the steep selloff this year, the worst start to any ever? >> i told you for a few months now. i think markets flushed out the economic growth around the globe is heading south and some areas of the globe are in recession already. and i don't think you get oil

prices crashing and transports also without there being trouble around the horizon. so you already saw .6 number for gdp here. i expect next couple quarters you will see some negative numbers. whether it gets really bad or not i'm just not sure yet. nicole: what will you watch for to know it gets really bad? transports and oil, transports are economic indicator, right? truckers, shippers, moving stuff manufactured and alike are they economic indicator? >> few things i see right now. shipping rates are all-time low. we'll start with that. if you just look the a lot of economic numbers coming out right now, we're starting to see bunch of negatives and flat-lining everywhere. over last seven, eight years, under cover of all the printing of money and zero percent rates, debt has skyrocketed. we have gone from 12 to 19 trillion in debt.

that is hurting economic growth and potential of the economy going forward also. so i think we're in this area where there is a lot of bad things underneath the surface and guess what's happening? they're starting to bubble up now. nicole: gary kaltbaum, president of kaltbaum capital management. thank you very much. lauren: oil prices heading higher this morning after touching the lowest price in about 13 years yesterday. those gains helped by more reports that opec members are willing to cooperate on cutting oil out put. phil flynn, senior market analyst at price futures group and joining us once again. hi, phil. >> good morning. lauren: good morning. the rumor opec will cut production is going to eventually be a reality? >> i think where there is smoke there's fire. listen, there is nobody in the world that -- money on oil, i don't care who it is. talk about saudi arabia, two dollars to get it out of the ground. this is starting to inflict real pain and i think some of the

opec members in the gulf states that have really been against any type of production cuts are starting to realize this is having larger ramifications on the global economy. and so they might not have anybody to sell their oil to, if the global economy collapses. so i think they are now seriously at least, contemplating a possible cut. nicole: phil, when we talk about what's going on with oil overall, it is not necessarily just opec. i want you to explain, from what i've heard, not really demand issue. it is really a supply issue. we talk about the cuts that are necessary. how is demand? >> demand has been strong and it is the fear that demand will collapse. it is perception. and it is really go edged story. the reason we got into oversupply situation was the u.s. energy producer. shale revolution started to increase inventory. in the past opec would have moderated production to keep prices down. but they didn't like to do that

latest details we go to fox meteorologist maria molina giving us the scoop here. maria, what's up? >> that's right. we'll see very cold temperatures anywhere from the upper midwest to parts of the northeast. i want to look at radar first. we have one storm system moved into the parts of the pacific northwest, bringing in areas of heavy rain and also mountain snow. as we head eastward we have the cold air going over the unfrozen great lakes, by the way, producing lake-effect snow. we're expecting additional accumulation, as much as six to 10 inches just today, on top of what you've already seen last couple days. then your current temperatures. here are numbers early this morning. pittsburgh you're already very cold, five degrees. you're at 16 in new york city. teens as well in chicago and detroit. the problem you factor in the wind, feels a lot colder than when the thermometer feels like. new york feels like four. boston feels like eight degrees below zero. it will be stay cold and even colder along for some of you
