trump that he is where the other five want to be, no doubt about it. let's look at the numbers, donald trump has 32% support from palmetto state voters. ted cruz in second with 19, marco rubio, does the few back from there at 15 and ben carson and not an, jeb bush at 9 as well, john kasich, that looks good for donald trump but as you mentioned when you peel back the numbers just a look from where things stand in december you might get a little bit different and the meaning potential the. trend in december has 35%, now 32, just minimal. ted cruz quince 14 to 19, sizable jump of 5 points so here is the spread. in december it was 21 points. now it is down to 13. the question is with two days left can donald trump hold on to

that lead, run out the clock and anybody catch him? that we will see on saturday. i will leave you with this. in that fox news poll from's backers appear locked in with two days ago, 83% responded by saying they will support donald trump on saturday also say they are certain they will vote for him saturday. that was far and away the highest of any of the candidates. neil: thank you. dr. ben carson, presidential candidate in the middle of this race in south carolina and nevada coming up for republicans. good to have you, thanks for joining me. in the south carolina apple, and from 15% to 9%, does it worry you? >> i would be more interested on saturday.

i think a lot of shifting going on, people who are undecided. i have been here, lots of it. and people are outside the door trying to get in. we got your back, don't worry about the polls. neil: your campaign is hitting on another cash with some record fund-raising numbers. we have good polling numbers. would you be disappointed? do you think your donors would be disappointed? >> will finish as high as possible. but we are going to keep going on, no question about that. we are collecting delegates.

neil: just to be clear you have a disappointing finish, if you do -- >> as i have said many times, and the great american pastime, baseball, you don't call the game after the third inning. at least i don't. neil: it is amazing in south carolina, and in iowa, despite all of the dashing donald trump has done against the bushes, just like we say about individual members popular in south carolina. does that surprise you? >> the country is shifting, sometimes people's faith is not

the predominant thing in their lives. a lot of people are very frightened about the future for their children, they're fretting about terrorism and those things sometimes can take precedence. neil: do you think that anger trumps religious concerns or whatever doubts they might have than any of the candidates? the fact that they might shake things up in washington? what will be the theme? >> a lot of people are so frightened at this stage that they are willing to overlook almost anything as long as they feel some comfort. donald trump does give people comfort because they equate boisterousness, bravado with strength and ability. neil: you sound like you are saying you do not.

>> no i don't. i think just the opposite quite frankly. having been somebody who used to get angry and the boisterous, i have learned that real strings is being able to control yourself and control the environment. neil: do you think, i don't want to focus on the candidates that it has become a legal dustup between donald trump and ted cruz, donald from threatening lawsuits, ted cruz continues to run ads. by and large feature just donald trump's own words, talking in the past about when he was pro-choice, talking in the past about the ago in to get to this later on the show, the iraq war, may be wasn't as rapidly against it as first thought to be the case. weather it is fair use on the part of senator ted cruz to bring that to people's attention or donald trump's point of view

of us have weaknesses and shortcomings. that is what it is all about. neil: kind of like for the pope, who are you to judge, very deft handling of that question. thank you very much. good talking to you, dr. ben carson. this is just coming from the new york times on the presidential race questioning the very pointed harsh criticism of donald trump's campaign for deporting more illegal immigrants. i don't know if it is a game changer, the environment and how we handle illegals and refugees in general. >> i don't see it putting up and in his support. the people who are supporting him for the most part have made up their minds, they like what he is saying and i just don't see a religious figure had

changing their mind to specialty when the pope has been perhaps less reluctant to wait in on political matters. he spoke before congress. we have been hearing a lot of political talk, more political talking recent months and it hasn't done much to change the political conversation from my perspective. neil: i think this surprise people have, how is donald trump doing so well, evangelical state like south carolina, you could make the same argument, i have a theory that evangelical voters when you talk about women voters young voters are not monolithic, age or their religion, matt is mad. if you are angry about the way things are going, it is not a statement on how you view candidates's faith, you are just ingrid.

>> to the extent that support for trump is rooted on the problems we see plaguing the country and so on. people are lot more focused on the day-to-day issues of their own finances and their ability to get a job and affordable education and so on so say what you will about donald trump or anyone else's the positions on those issues, but it is more grounded in the real world kitchen table tyche issues but i don't see the pope's comments having much of an effect. neil: these polls show donald trump is enjoying a double digit lead versus ted cruz, still double digit lead on various polls, similar tight lead in places like florida, half of the sec, could you see him running the tables on this? >> i think he has the ceiling of support of 39% or 40% and i

think this goes to the analogy ben carson was making with respect to the presidential race being like a baseball game. and a baseball game, two sides fighting at. we have 5 or 6 different candidates, when you have donald from consistently taking 35% to 40%, with different candidates, you are paving the way for donald trump to continue the momentum he had so what it will take is a large winnowing of the field, down to trump versus someone else whether it is marco rubio or ted cruz, that will be tough to do when a lot of these candidates feel they don't have a fighting chance. neil: will put. thank you. if we get any more updates from the pope we will be looking. obviously not a big fan of donald trump but that could change. team might say something else but again this is not the first time the pope has made and on what some believe our political

you have seen a sign of many of the party. they are more likely to gravitate to a marco rubio. what do you think of that? >> i will point out the obvious. i think there is a whole lot of the party that does not want the front runner to get the nomination. then, the rest of the party will have to coalesce around somebody sooner rather than later. that one on one with ted cruz would be donald trump. we are waiting to see what happened in south carolina. the more likely we are to get a clear outcome. neil: we will watch it closely. very good seeing you again.

that further helps future trump commercials? >> you know, it really could because a lot of people would take offense to the fact that the pope is trying to conflict opposition with unchristian view. a lot of people don't see it that way, and so for him to tie the two issues together, that might just give donald trump more leeway to run on this immigration policy. >> neil: already has come up, why didn't he rally half of the european to be open to refugees in syria. he didn't use the type of language against them, right? >> exactly. you know, the pope weighing in specifically on an individual and a race, not just a blanket decree of people that oppose open borders. that's unprecedented for a pope to say something like that.
