"fox news" chief political correspondent carl cameron is in the great lakes state tonight and has our report. >> thanks lou. and even the big contest in michigan. was a busy weekend and you considered yesterday marco rubio won puerto rico his first primary and the debut for that data for that saturday there were four contest and they were split between ted cruz and donald trump. trump had been favored in maine in kansas. in fact he had the governor supported maine and in kansas he skipped the cpac conference on friday in order to make sure that he won kansas city lost them both.

cruz picked up delegates to as a consequence we can for review and cruz not so much for trump as we look ahead tomorrow therefore contest at stake michigan, mississippi idaho and hawaii. mississippi is a very red state so the results there will be quite consequential and the state that has been fought for. likewise i do hope. hawaii not so much. it's in the middle of the pacific in a very liberal state. michigan becomes the one to watch. it's also got the biggest delegates and 15% threshold in order to qualify for those delegates of anyone who's under 15% mark gets blanked and marco rubio maybe it summers there. the latest poll showed that john kasich and ted cruz are more competitive. in fact they are in a statistical tie at the front-runner in michigan is still donald trump. it's a very important state for john kasich. there's a similar economy in adjacent to ohio so despite their collegiate revelers as well as their economic

competition michiganders and ojai and have something in common and kasich is counting on a pretty cast himself as an underdog is willing to do whatever it takes and while the kasich campaign will never admit it publicly looking at their internal polls and k-6 effort in the last week is basically running like he's been running for governor is done so many stops here pretty kasich campaign won't stand publicly that they think there's a chance they could pull off a victory. the truth of the matter is anything close to that will be very important because after tomorrow the race moves on to the equivalent of the next really do or die election a week from tomorrow which features the first to the winner-take-all states none other than ohio the home state of john kasich and florida home state for marco rubio. now we find out donald trump is going to play for keeps in florida. he is launched an attack ad against marco rubio or he gets a very tough one. take a look at this. >> marco rubio has spent years defrauding the people of florida and the as a legislator he

flipped on a key vote after making a quick 200,000 by selling his house to the mother the bills lobbyists. smith rubio campaign is saying that lie is full of falsehoods. those are charges against parker room and made by charlie crist now democrat when he was running against marco rubio in 2010 and a rubio campaign points out virtually every charge in that ad has been beefed-up by the "washington post" fact checker. doesn't seem to matter through donald trump is spending a lot of money in florida trying to win next week. at the same time the so-called trump with a group of establishment donors and activists who are trying to stop trump have $10 million in the bank and they plan to blow it in florida next week trying to stop trump. the battle is on. lou: carl cameron. donald trump is holding a rally in madison mississippi right now. there you see live pictures of him having a rally at the madison county school district. mrs. it holds its primary

election tomorrow. and donald trump is talking about commonsense conservatives. >> i was actually leading but i was at reading. i was beating romney and beating everybody but i never ran. i was doing a lot of different jobs and i watched that. we are doing big jobs that they are almost finished one of pennsylvania avenue with a big hotel. two years ahead of schedule and under budget. think of that. wouldn't that be great if our military and our highways and their trains and all of these things came in ahead of schedule and under budget? they don't even know what the languages. that's what's going to happen. but that's what's going to happen. so i came down the escalator and it was about trade and the borders and i had other things that really trade because they could not stand when you see trade imbalances the way we have

what european leaders decide to do next. europe is struggling to contain the crisis that is one of their own making by the way after months of waving its eastern borders open to the illegal immigrants and refugees. some leaders led by germany's angela merkel actually in courage to more of the refugees and illegal immigrants to come in to the european union and as you might expect that has created great great consternation in the republic of germany. the navy s.e.a.l.s with a warning incredibly said they did not have enough combat rifles and are being forced to share their rifles. that's according to congressman duncan hunter. he said he was contacted by a number of s.e.a.l.s who tell him once they return from deployment their rivals are then given over to other highly trained forces were being deployed. those combat rifles are

over with hillary clinton and i would be an interesting ticket. >> the truth of the matter is mike's best chance would have been a republican to democrat and an independent. if you really wanted. >> that pretty much covers it. >> i think is a serious person so i'm not being derogatory towards him although i told him three times he could not make the electoral votes including this time i wrote a column in "usa today" showing he couldn't do it. >> if he would have run as a democrat this time he see as social is basically. michael bloomberg if he was in that race. lou: i don't know what the strictures are, the qualifications but a possibility here, or a mild one perhaps that the democrats might fall into a convention as well. then bloomberg might have some maneuvering room depending on where he is registered.

but you have a terrific column on what trump might do to win this thing and to put it away. you have three basic things. give us what you think. >> i started to say he can win. think this is very doable and obviously the nomination but i levy can defeat hillary clinton in the fall but i think he's got some work to do to grow as a candidate. i've put out a couple of things up for something he talks too much about himself. some of it i think is well-worn and i think those voters, you got those voters. he got to make new friends and stop making new enemies so i think he's got to talk more to the people he's talking to. what do they want to hear about their lives? i think the idea of a policy brain trust is important. the way he has had to backtrack a couple of times since the last

debate, it's not just you're changing his position. not clear in and standing for. lou: first of all he is committed himself to the american people. he has got all sorts of talent but each time for him to bring that knowledge base beyond where he was six months ago, the voters have got to see growth in these candidates. i don't think it -- care if they are just cruz or trump, whoever. >> is a little the lip it but like baseball. the pitcher and hitter have to adapt to each other. lou: and congressional republicans. >> is to care about congress. he has to care about the senate especially with the supreme court issue. lou: ed, florida now we think is bringing negative as we are told. they are going to have to be a lot of them to counteract with the establishment is putting into florida, $10 million i

think by the way that's minimal frankly and. >> rubio doesn't have a lot of money and the super pacs do. cruz has decided to make the race there and he's got 10 offices open. yes the smart team. cruz has the political operative on how to make a campaign. they're not going to win but they can keep rubio from winning an trump is the winner there and that knocks rubio out-of-the-box. lou: five delegates of donald trump paid. >> at the end of the day that may happen anyway so the key thing is cruz has to get them out and get him one-on-one. i think cruz when cyto tomorrow tomorrow. trump can win michigan tomorrow and that's what gets him on his way. kasich is made a big deal out of michigan. i can win measurement -- michigan i don't think that could happen. lou: he has really doubled down

lou: a few thoughts on the incredible spectacle of almost the entire republican establishment and their presidential candidates attacking the gop front-runner. here are cruz rhyming in their attacks. >> i can't tell you how many media outlets i hear has this great exposé on donald, different aspects of his business dealings or as business dealings are his past but they say you know what we are going to hold it until june or july. i'm not going to out media outlets that i can tell you there is so much there. as that romney observed effect of don juan to hand over his tax returns suggest there's a bombshell in there. lou: a bombshell in there. do you believe that? folded their tent coming to have any evidence that there are two of those romney insinuations that mitt rightly observe.

kingdom of being able to take care of themselves and the donor class at the expense of the working class finally goes away and it really will be a disrupted election. that's why people are supporting trump. lou: i truly believe mike and i want to hear what you think of this, i truly believe there is a spirit and i don't think it's subconscious. within the gop establishment that they assume lose the election as have trump win. >> they had but to be sure you understand why there is a lot of money to be made by playing the game that politics has become. three words tell at all. follow the money and if the donor class gets to the political class and they do the bidding of the donor class they keep getting more money the power shifts. the reason nothing changes when the democrats republicans are in power is because the same donors

are feeding the political class and they get what they want but look how many people, 5 million manufacturing jobs lost since the year 2000. 5 million people have lost their homes in foreclosure. we bail out big banks and the smartest guys in the room but the poor guy standing on concrete floors all day, he gets a gut punch. he loses his pension. the way i like to bring that lou is typically elections are horizontal. this is the most liberal and this is the most conservative. this is not a horizontal election. this is a vertical election. people don't care so much about where person is horizontally. here's the question are you going to take us up are you going to take us down? are you going to do what we have been getting or are you going to do something different? what has been done in the name of so-called conservative orthodoxies and working out real well for most of america. >> this conservative, i couldn't agree with you more. you said it exactly right and

this conservative orthodoxy, i laugh about it. is now the high priest of conservative orthodoxy? the bush family are suddenly great conservatives? paul ryan is a conservative? are you kidding me? who is coming up with this nonsense and why does the national media continue that feedback loop that lets them go along blissfully unaware of reality? >> i think what is most troubling to me lou is many people are so upset that the voters are making a different choice than they the elites would make that they have suddenly forgotten that this is not a selection for the nominee, it is an election. rather than going out and saying if donald trump is the nominee i want even better i will vote for an independent. i've heard republicans say that. donald trump was paraded in front of the world and signed a pledge that he would run as a third-party person.

i think that was appropriate pledge or all of us to make. i made this claim -- same pledge. the party ought to be loyal to the nominee. as somebody who is involved with this i am not an endorser and i have endorsed anybody but i endorse a fair and free election and i'll tell you what i don't endorse, i don't endorse the establishment believing that they know better for america than the americans who have been getting kicked in the rear by the policies of the establishment. they don't get it. they are the problem. they are the ones that mess this up. lou: it excites me that these issues are being talked about in this campaign as they have never been talked about in my career. the issues of illegal immigration in a very profound way, border security in a very profound way, the tpp free. fair. fair trade.

if it doesn't work there, where will it work? >> we are looking at a potentially big day for donald trump. but i wouldn't discount ted cruz. we are looking at potentially forthcoming endorsements for cruz. but this is a difficult race for anyone who isn't donald trump because the field is so divided. attacks they are launching on donald trump and the attacks they are launching aren't very effective. lou: trump has his own attack against rubio and it's a tough ad. >> richard nixon whatever you think of him was a brilliant

politician. he said whenever there was a big movement to stop x, bet on x. people are sick of this. there is an old saying in washington. whatever starts as a movement turns into a business and eventually a racket. lou: in michigan, do you think trump will win there? >> i don't want to make too bold predictions. but i think he has a chance of winning there. one person i would watch in michigan would be john kasich. lou: his folks are saying he may win it. that's why i ask. lou rar lot of boldness on this campaign trail.

>> that would give him momentum going into the vote. but i would still say that donald trump has the advantage there because it's been such -- michigan is a state that is have much a national election state. john kasich was there but he certainly hasn't invested the type of resources he would have in iowa and new hampshire so this is a state going where the nation is going now. >> the fact that kasich is rising helps him. i think he wins tomorrow. >> who wins tomorrow? >> donald trump. do you have to ask? mark is a big trump supporter. i called in my commentary for him to reload to refreshing his rhetoric and to start talking in the plural. i even suggested that usual starting to sound vaguely
