a country in to making is this morning. a passenger jet in cyprus after being hijacked. egypt is playing all passengers have been released except the flight crew and for foreigners or good morning. i am nicole petallides. lauren: good morning. i'm lauren simonetti. a hijacker is an egyptian national seeking asylum in cyprus and let's listen now to our sister network on the sky news. >> showing some of them suggesting people are not panic stricken and empty time has gone by. the story emerging or at least one person of the story to merchandise the solitary hijackers may demand neither
5:01 am
political nor jihadist has been suggested in the initial phases of the story. actually it was somebody, perhaps a professor at alexander university. look at pictures there looking to make contact with an estranged wife. thus iran confirmed report suggested now is the motivation behind what's happening. it is a picture taken inside the cap and reporting to shut the 27-year-old man. the evidence of a grainy picture looks a little bit older than 27. this is a story which continues to unfold and is by no means at its more definitive stage. it will become in time. let's turn briefly to her correspondent in cairo spirit we are expecting a briefing from the egyptians soon. >> ascot the civil aviation ministry has said it will raise the price any moment now.
5:02 am
we expect them to shut some light onto what has been going on. egypt has released another statement. they said there were 55 passengers on the plane, so not just one as we originally heard. they were around four or exactly as they said it, for passengers, foreigners and crew still on board, which met some of the crew in the past half-hour has been released. other reports on the ground are saying the hijacker is a loon on the plane. we haven't been able to confirm that. it is seeming to bless this is coming to some sort of conclusion. there are egyptian officials telling. these agencies is not terrorist related very similar to what we hear from authorities at the. negotiations are continuing, but it doesn't seem as serious as the last a few hours ago.
5:03 am
the hijacker named as egyptian national abraham got to be in his mid to late 20s. although the picture makes him look a little bit older so we will have to confirm that. hopefully as i said in a few minutes time and the civil aviation minister gives a statement to the press i might have a little bit more of a conclusion to this very strange story this morning. >> it is a strange story printed through it they would rather talk about an aviation security. >> at the beginning we have said he may have a suicide note or that is what they told the pilot. they are saying they don't think they're sending x
5:04 am
perhaps than the metro check flight last october. if he doesn't have the next those cents but some do not let like it next us about, again that will raise many questions as to how someone who has something that looks like a bomb, how he makes it through airport security. airport security and domestic airports if you go through in a domestic flight is slightly less stringent than international plane. either way, nobody should be allowed to do that. it could be the case this man doesn't have anything like a bomb. he just threatened the dead and if that is the case we can't blame egyptian security. they are not meant to do psychological checks on their passengers and if this meant that as nothing as it transpires, egyptian security would not be to blame. but whatever the outcome, the
5:05 am
fact they've been talking about this the last two hours that egyptian security at the airport once again cast in a terrible leading media and someone will affect egypt's reputation and people who may perhaps i want to come to this country. >> very interesting. thanks indeed. you can see the media briefing that was fun to happen soon. maybe an attempt to wrap a transparent the hoping to get a lot of minutes we intended. our staff will be trained to pick up the headlines for you. suggesting perhaps this was an explosive belt. and maybe some threats in which case it's a reaction but we can't take any chances and
5:06 am
somebody is making threats. this will all come out. in the meantime, let's turn to our diplomatic studio. is it terrorism if someone threatens to bring down the plane? >> it is terrorism if he used terror to it then. if this demand trying to settle some kind of domestic reason he has possibly with his ex-wife. we had to trace all of this with a lot of caution. the information we've had so far has turned out to be inaccurate. cypress aviation officials are now saying that this man appears possibly to have been in love and that might have been his motivation. civil aviation officials have said negotiators are given the name of the woman by this hijacker. an envelope is handed over that he wanted to be given to a woman
5:07 am
who lived in cyprus to possibly with his ex-wife. some say in his life is on the way to the airport and would airport and would be thought of the negotiation with this man. at the moment i start to work out what the motivation is cemetery terrorism are not. clearly it is old-style terrorism. it's not the kind of islamic state terrorism where you don't go through the niceties. he simply blow people up because you believe in trying to carry out acts which would guarantee the most outrage to precipitate an activist portion and the other side and gave the sympathy. that hasn't happened. >> even if this is increasing domestic incident, one of the reasons are splashed all over the world to this chance and let pages this because the more nihilistic approach. >> yes. hijackers will grab attention. it is linked --
5:08 am
nicole: would've been watching would've been watching sky news on with a matching sky in his own egyptian plant there on the tarmac and will bring bad news to you as well. joining us now with this it is former fbi assistant air here in new york. we have been watching developments on the hijacking this morning. your thoughts. >> it looks as if it's resolving itself in a favorable manner. i hear all kinds of speculation that terrorism isn't terrorism. i'm sure you could talk to any one of those passengers on the plane and it is terrorism. in the classic sense of somebody going to blow up the plane, you know, they also question the egyptians to start this at the security checkpoint.
5:09 am
there is no way to stop the chip going. a good set of circumstances is all these people coming off the plane. they are carrying luggage. i suspect that this will probably be. i guess at first he wanted to go to a symbol, which would tell me i don't know why they didn't land on the other side of cyprus. i guess they probably landed at larnaca, the other side of the island where spices. lauren: this is unbelievable to me that a man with board is looking to get in touch with his estranged wife is on every news channel for hijacking a plane can make getting through security with maybe perhaps some sort of the eyes or suicide belt is able to hijack 55 people on board the plane and it might be because he's trying to get in touch with his ex-wife? >> nobody can explain the
5:10 am
workings of the young working of the mind. he's an educated man. he's an assistant professor of veterinary medicine. it doesn't make sense. lauren: maybe we're a little bit more alarmed because last year it is this group did for the downing of a russian plane crashing into the cyanide bullets at that killed more than 220 people. more people on alert and everywhere. anything like this happens. people become educated over it. >> everything that goes on you have to take the utmost caution. there have been reports that he may have a suicide vest. he may not have any explosives at all. that being said, what are procedures that would normally
5:11 am
be taken most of the people on board have been freed at this point. there are reports that crew and a few foreigners could still be on board now. developments we are watching. but i procedures? how long do they wait? what happens now? >> is two things going on for the negotiation side. there's people who can relay real-time information for what's going on in the plane right now. they are certainly debriefing passengers on the plane. it's of grave concern to take over your years. halfway down, by window, by an idol. busy doing some the basic theme. that is very important. >> it must be tricky to get the information not to say we are on the front of the plane. just trying to relay the information must be tricky for them.
5:12 am
>> it is tricky, but as you can imagine everybody came from the front of the plane to the back of the plane on the way out. not the most reliable information, but they take it as the information to negotiate with them. that's one side of the equation. all the information and who are these other poor people? all the information goes to the tactical people and if they have to get on board the plane and stop this from doing anything should you be capable of doing it. >> this is a very tense situation. we will keep our viewers a precipice. the director in charge in new york, bill gavin, thank you for insight into the situation. any developments will bring to you.
5:13 am
>> that's not the only news breaking this morning. the justice department successfully breaking into an iphone without apple's. it is linked to one of the attack is a master's mass shooting, terrorism was on california and san bernardino. the new development in a controversial legal battle did issue a statement. this is what it says in part. they have a back door into the iphone because they believed it was found from inside a dangerous precedent. as a result of government dismissal, neither of these occurred. the case should never have been brought and that's the end of the statement. nicole: now the latest on the shooting at the u.s. capitol. a man shot and wounded by police after he pulled out a weapon at the visitor center. 66 euros clear to austin of tennessee to be in critical but stable condition spread was really say no to the holy spirit last october he was known where disrupting proceedings. >> we believe this is not a

single person less frequent in the capitol grounds before and there's no reason to believe that this is anything more than a criminal act. >> the white house for briefly about down. one female tourist did suffer a minor injury and then again. lauren: let's go back to the hijacking of the egyptair plane for the latest on the situation. john had a life in the middle east bureau. what you know now? >> flooring, we are getting more information on a clear picture the hijacker involved and is certainly becoming more bizarre. take a look at an image of him that we've been showing you of him on the plane that was clearly taken on somebody's cell phone. we've been told by egyptian officials that his name is deeper he and -- a 27-year-old
5:15 am
egyptian national, quoting egyptian officials suspect he has a dual egyptian american citizenship. we have not officially confirmed that. independently we of course are working on that and that he is a native of the egyptian mediterranean city of alexandria this is where of course the story started. it took off from the airport, a small airport in alexandria about 8:15 a.m. local time bound for cairo. the guy midway through the flight demanded that the plane go towards the same goal. he had an explosive belt on. we don't know that. we are hearing conflicting reports that maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. again, his name is abraham said maha. most of the 81 passengers have been released.
5:16 am
this is very fluid as i've been talking about. we don't know the nationalities of the foreigners still on the plane. we've seen videos of passengers off the plane onto the tarmac walking towards the terminal. after that tour at the airport in alexandria said earlier 30 minutes ago that the flight included eight americans, for breads, for -- the defense, and 30 egyptians. getting back to the hijacker and as i said becoming more and more bizarre, reuters is professing he said that there at alexandria university the president of cyprus, cyprus officials that this is not related to terrorism, betting that there
5:17 am
are reports that it may be personal and peer also getting information that man has to speak with is that twice. it is really unclear specifically what his demands are. he wanted to go to assemble but the captain of the flight said they did not have enough fuel so they landed at the airport in my darkest cyprus instead. of course when this first started developing, the initial office could this be related to isis and messiah now been in love with the last year. this does not appear as i said to be the case. if this guy does have an explosive belt on his questions about that, clearly once again there are huge lapses in security at the airport in egypt. again, waiting for information. this is not an act of terrorism, but instead may be personal. that said, the information
5:18 am
continues to be very fluid. it continues to develop if we have my details or information will come back. back to you. lauren: thank you so much good moment to moment, sorry indeed. i could be very well illustrate dr. at this point. nicole: will certainly keep you abreast of all the news relating to the hijacked airplane on the tarmac and barnett has cyprus. we seek out features to the downside down to, s&p up one, nasdaq up four. asia has been lower, europe has been hiring everybody waiting on janet yellen. much more coming you are watching "fbn:am," your first look at money market and breaking news.
