big disappointments this quarter including apple yesterday. well, facebook bucked the trend. we'll bring you the numbers. melissa: ted cruz is set to make his major announcement any moment now. let's go to straight to fox business's jeff flock is in in indianapolis with the latest. jeff? >> i'm here at a trump event. i can't wait to hear what donald trump has to say about this when he gets here in two hour's time. already tweeted out actually, a video of carly fiorina during the campaign criticizing ted cruz as politician who would say whatever he needs to say to get elected. take that one. you might not wan to play too many of donald trump's former statements going back either but there you go. we're at indiana farmer's coliseum in the state fairgrounds. this is big arena. it is filling up. i confirmed at fox that ted cruz will announce carly mean as his running mail. despite his own internal polling

on this it indicates with will not give him much of a bump. probably for moment take focus and momentum away from donald trump's after yesterday's big victory. i can't wait to see what trump will have to say toth big crowd when he gets here and of what ted cruz makes whatever announcement he makes. we'll be watching. >> thank you, jeff. david: we have jonah goldberg, fox news contributor. by the way, jonah we got the tweet donald trump sent out about carly fiorina. he puts this quote from carly when she was on the campaign trail. i think we can get that. let's play it. do we have the tweet? >> ted cruz is just like if i other to politician. to get elected. david: we're going to be hearing that run again and again. she has problems with the fact she left hewlett-packard after

essentially being forced to quit. she also lost an election in california. so she may not be that. of a help in california. what do you think of this? >> well, i'm actually a fan of carly fiorina's. i don't know that it is going to help all that much. you know, say about california. she did lose an election. lost a general election, won republican primary doing much better than other senate candidates. david: jonah, i'm sorry to have to do this. we'll pick up in second. we have facebook results. jo ling kent has numbers in the newsroom. go ahead, jo. >> 77 cents a share of profit. nice beat of 62 cents a share the street was looking for. looking at revenue coming in at $5.83 billion, also a very healthy beat. these are the numbers you really need to know, how many people are on facebook every day, how are they making money. daily active users up by 1.09 billion. monthly mobile active users up

to 1.15 billion, serious growth from where they were in the last quarter. we're looking at key monthly active users, nice bump there, growing from 1.59 billion people, to 1.65 billion. looking at what mark zuckerberg the founder and ceo, is saying, saying we had a great start to this year. we're focused on a 10-year road map to give everyone in the world to share whatever they want with anyone. we're going through the numbers to check out what else we can bring you. there is big focus on live video of course. we'll look at impact of oculus virtual reality, the company they acquired a few years ago, to see if that has sales impact that started back in january. david: all you have to see it is doing very well after-hours as a result of these numbers. >> yes it is. david: jo, brings more on facebook. melissa will take a deeper dive into the subject. melissa: let's bring in steven

roselo, split on lines, my pollgy, from "wall street journal" and jonathan hoenig, capitalist pig hedge fund. both of them join us. give us reaction, james to what you heard? anyone? >> sorry, i will jump in. i will jump in. obviously as jo pointed out this is blowout report. they did extremely well on both the top and bottom line. this is what facebook has been doing for a while now. their past quarterly report the stock popped 15% on it. it was just again a really extraordinary numbers. you're seeing them diversify. jo mentioned live video. she mentioned oculus. there are a lot of really interesting things facebook is delving into here we actually don't know a lot about. so it will be interesting to see on the call if they talk about instagram and what kind of updates as well as live video which is very knew right now but really could have a big impact going forward. melissa: jonathan, tell me, do

you agree with that? >> well, james is right. what he also alludes to, unlike for example, twitter which got annihilated today, facebook continued to innovate. continued to redefine its product and put its consumers, its users at center of an experience that explains the divergence. this hasn't been a great environment, great market, medical list for big cap tech stocks like apple and twitter. facebook after hours a new all-time high. that is bullish sign, only because the company has not rested on its laurels. was counted out as just for kids or myspace in waiting. it is anything but. because it changed so dramatically and reinvested, reinnovated why the company continues to do well even amongst unbelievable competition. melissa: steve, there was emphasis could they make it into mobile. that was big focus. we saw so much growth in this quarter. what do you think is the next big hurdle? >> that is a great question.

we're talking about mobile here, just fascinating, three years ago, less than a quarter of their advertising revenue came from mobile. now it is 80% and probably even much higher after this quarterly report. so mobile is just been exploding for them. one of the key reasons why the stock is up so much. getting back to tech in general, look across the board, apple, twitter, microsoft, alphabet, all these companies reported pretty disappointing results. melissa: right. >> facebook is only one, only big tech bellwether that has done well this earnings season. melissa: jonathan, what do you think is the magic behind that? that is something we used to say about apple. other companies would blame the environment, blame the economy, blame other countries. if you look around the world, number for the fourth quarter, how many people go and log in daily, who are users, went up to 1.65 billion from 1.59 billion. that is a staggering number? >> it is amazing.

you can't put apple down, melissa. something like 40% of all silicon valley's profits this year go straight to apple's bottom line. so they have innovated as well. the market, keep in mind is always looking forward. unlike apple which came up with the apple watch but not widely adopted just yet. facebook's innovations are almost immediately adopted. this is essentially advertising company. you can not run advertising product, can't roll out a product in this environment without putting facebook at the top of your list. that is why they're succeeding. melissa: steve, jonathan, hang on. jo has a little more news for us. let's bring her in. what do you see in the earnings? >> big whopping number on mobile advertising revenue. says a lot about the company and says a lot about the broader remember speculative. mobile avenue made up 82% of all advertising on facebook in the first quarter of that year. that is up from 73% of ad revenue in the first quarter of last year. so the reason you need to care about this, it clearly shows

that this new ad positioning types of content through the news feed is clearly working on mobile platform. remember mark zuckerberg saying a long time ago that mobile was not their strength and they were going to turn and fully focus on it. clear the money is officially rolling in pretty serious way. that is a number not to be ignored. melissa: steve, respond to that. they have done a lot of innovative things. sharing apps to instagram to drive traffic. what do you think of what jo just said? >> that is fascinating. 82% number is record high. each quarter they keep setting records. growing strongly. something we haven't talked about instagram and messaging. they're making big push at previous conference. they're talking about messaging service and even what's app and how that will play a role ultimately business model and revenue model. so i think it is interesting when we talk about facebook they're in so many different areas.

it is advertising it is messaging. such a key part of people's lives and tech life. melissa: although i would say, jonathan, you always hear that the kids don't go on facebook anymore. this is one of those things they went on, see their grandparents, so many party people, businesses are on there it is not cool. doesn't seem to be a problem as they keep going? >> that is theme. that has been a meme. kids are not going to facebook. kids are absolutely going to facebook. that is where eyeballs are. they're able to roll out new products and monetize them and able to profit off them. when all the silicon valley unicorns, multibillion-dollar companies taken out and getting shot, companies that monetize and deliver performance results are performing as expected. that's why facebook at new all-time high and why i think it

continues to trend higher from here. melissa: there you go. guys, thank you so much. david. david: we're awaiting ted cruz's major announcement we now know according to fox news that carly fiorina will be running mate. yes it is only april. i don't think we ever heard of vp nomination this early in the political season but there it is. jonah goldberg is back with us. howard kurtz fox news medial -- media analyst. jonah, i want to talk about yesterday, it was significant win, much greater than even trump expected. after yesterday's win, we had people even trump haters had to come out and admit that even if he is not presumptive nominee he is very close. this is what jon podhoretz, no fan of donald trump said today in "new york post." there is no putting lipstick on this pig. cruz's numbers tuesday night, like his numbers in new york last week were beyond horrible and people are kidding themselves if they think tuesday night's results won't have an effect on voters in indiana and elsewhere. your response?

>> yeah the, looks, john is very close friend of mine, take back seat no one including john in my animosity towards donald trump. john is right. it is huge night. it has been a huge month for donald trump. he swept the northeast. why we're seeing news from the cruz campaign they want to change the narrative, change sense of momentum and they think or hope that this might do it at least in indiana and california which are the two states which still hold potential of denying donald trump enough delegates to win on the first ballot. david: potential, but again, howard kurtz. doesn't say that in the polls. we have trump ahead in indiana by eight points according to "fox news poll." ahead in california by something like 27 points. based on what's happened in the past 24 hours, isn't trump even more likely to win those races? >> yes, he is. that is why ted cruz had to do something. david: anything, to try to change the storyline, try to

change the dynamic. i could say look, carly fiorina got fired from hewlett-packard. dropped like a rock in her own presidential campaign, finishing 2%. she is one of outsider independent candidates in year when people seem to want, at same time we could be talking about how ted cruz yesterday finished third behind john kasich in four out of the five northeastern states that were voting. instead we'll say will this help him, announce as running mate, unusual to do it this early. it will probably be in no position to name a running mail but it changes storyline. david: to show how you donald trump did last night, even praised media. howthat. >> i had to adjust the volume on my tv set. trump likes it when journalists say he do so well, did in those five states and previous

new york landslide he likes coverage. whereas senator cruz went after the press saying we were having palpitations trump would have this locked up. that we were declaring trump to apparent nominee because that deflected attention what cruz knew would be very bad night. david: jonah, why trump does that when trump beats up on press way he does, everybody loves it, when cruz does it is seen as petulent? >> part of it is tone. part of it we in the media broadly speaking grade donald trump on enormous double-standard. oh, sort of like joe biden. joe biden says crazy things. shouts gets these squirrels off of me. oh, that is joe. donald trump says, crazy inan bombastic things it is priced into his personality. ted cruz is so buttoned up when he does this stuff there is edge to it and people notice it. david: right. today, howard, trump going out of that style, that bombastic still into prompter reading

session of foreign policy stuff. and frankly, his speech seemed very stale to a lot of people. not necessarily the content but the delivery was kind of disappointing. will that, if it continues to be that way, i mean he may jazz it up a little bit, but might he, might he lose some support? >> i don't think he will lose support. this is balancing act trump is trying to achieve. one hand he openly chafed at his advisors urging to be more presidential. because knows doing the schtick, insults turns on his pretty large crowds. at the same time people who might be otherwise willing to say okay, he won some primaries maybe i can support him, republicans that is, want to see some stub stance, he will do series of policy speeches. david: forgive me for interrupting, howie. there is ted cruz again. we know what is coming which will be announcement that his running mate, yes it is april still a long way away from the

nomination. he will announce a running mate. former hewlett-packard chief executive carly fiorina, who of course ran for president very recently. let's listen in. ♪ >> ted, ted, ted! >> god bless the great state of indiana. [cheers and applause] elections are about choices. the republican party face as choice today. indiana, and america, i believe want to unite behind a positive, optimistic, forward-looking, conservative campaign based on real policy solutions to the problems facing this country. [cheering] and the american people deserve a real choice in november.

[applause] a choice, and not an echo. a meaningful distinction. if we come to november and the american people are given a choice between two big-government liberals -- [booing] two washington insiders enmeshed in the corruption of washington, then wees have a republican party will have failed the american people. and i will tell you, when you run for president, one of the most solemn choices you make is the choice of selecting a vice-presidential candidate. [cheers and applause]

this is a choice that you are telling the american people, this is an individual who i trust, even more importantly, this is an individual you can trust to lead this country no matter what might happen. [applause] any responsible candidate for president would have spent much time assessing possible candidates, thinking through the pros and cons, studying who these people are, praying about it and examining the potential candidates. you know the characteristics that you look for in a vice president are indeed the very same characteristics you look for in a president.

[cheers and applause] first of ail, -- all, knowledge. do they know enough to do the job, do they know where jobs come from, do they understand why jobs are leaving america? do they understand why manufacturing jobs are being driven everyseas? do they understand why carrier has left indiana and gone to mexico? do they understand what is happening in the economy? and governments, do they understand the constitution and bill of rights? are these words on a paper or are these promises that protect our fundamental liberty. [applause] and security, do they understand the threats facing us in the world, the threats that potentially endanger your

children and mine? that's the first criteria you look to is knowledge. does this person have the experience and knowledge to do the job? secondly, you look to judgment. do they have the judgment and wisdom to bear the mantle of a job whose responsibilities have grayed the hair of every person ever to hold that office? do they think through decisions in a rash, impulsive way? the do they pop off the handle at whatever strikes them at any given moment? or do they think through careful, measured? do they assemble a team around them, who are smarter than they are? you know there is an old adage in management. that as hire as, and bs

hire cs. [applause] if you see a leader who is deliberately surrounds himself with people who are not capable, who are not informed, who are knot skilled, and who would never ever, ever, stand up to that leader, it tells you that leader is not a leader, but rather someone not at all secure in who they are. [cheers and applause] and the third thing you look to is character. are they honest? do they have core principles come from their gut? not a momentary dalliance, announced today to be abandoned tomorrow, but do they know who they are when they look in the mirror?

is it based on whatever the media tells them that given day, whatever the fad is that given moment, whatever is trending on twitter? or, do they have a foundation. [cheers and applause] and integral to character, how do they treat others? how do they treat others especially, those they don't have to be nice to? you know everyone knows how to kiss up. everyone can be nice to their boss. that is not a complicated skill. but how do they treat the clerk at the convenience store? how do they treat the average man and woman? how do they treat the american citizen? how do they treat the vulnerable?

that reveals everything you node to know about character. after a great deal of time and thought, after a great deal of consideration and prayer, i have come to the conclusion that if i am nominated to be president of the united states, that i will run on a ticket with my vice-presidential nominee, carly fiorina. [cheers and applause]

>> cruz, cruz, cruz! [cheering] >> carly, carly, carly, carly, carly! >> born in texas. the very first thing i liked about her. cara, carlton fiorina, known throughout the country, simply by the name of carly. [cheering] is an extraordinarilyiry leader.

-- extraordinary leader. she started working as secretary of a small firm and she climbed the corporate ladder to become the ceo of the largest technology company in the world. [cheering] and the first female ceo in history of a fortune 20 company. [cheering] a graduate of stanford and mit carly is brilliant and capable and yet she experienced hard scrabble world of being a woman professional in a business world that extracts a price. i say that as a son of a pioneering computer programmer, my mother, who started in the computer industry in the 1950s. i say that as the husband of my wife, heidi cruz, who spent two decades in the business world.

[cheering] over and over again carly has shattered glass ceilings. [cheering] but in addition to being a woman of extraordinary intelligence, she is also a woman of deep principle. she served as chairman of the american conservative june foundation, championing conservative principles on a national level. [cheers and applause] she has studied the threats facing our national security serving as chairman of the cia's external advisory board. and if you look to the criteria i laid out, let's start number one with knowledge. she knows from having spent a lifetime how to produce jobs,

how to expand jobs, how to raise wages. [cheers and applause] she knows first-hand the key to economic growth is not government and more and more government. it is rather less and less government. [cheers and applause] my opponent in this race, donald trump -- [booing] hillary clinton and bernie sanders looks to government as the answer to every problem. [booing] carly knows first-hand from decades in the business world running one of the 20 largest corporations in america where jobs come from.

[cheers and applause] and r and she respects the constitution and bill of rights. [cheers and applause] you know, if a candidate views the bill of rights as an occasional inconvenience, something to be talked about one day and ignored the next, if a candidate reviews religious liberty something to be cast aside when it is inconvenient, if a candidate views the second amendment right to keep and bear arms merely a suggestion, they don't have the grounding to be president. [applause] carly respects the constitution and the bill of rights and she understands the threats facing america.

she understands this is a dangerous world and naming her as my vice-presidential nominee, i am also telling you that she is someone you can be confident in, if the occasion should arise to be commander-in-chief and keep this country safe. [cheers and applause] we need a president who isn't neutral between israel and the palestinians. [cheering] we need a president who will not keep in place this iranian nuclear deal but who will rip it to shreds. [cheers and applause]

and the second criterion, judgment, you know it was seven weeks ago today that carly endorsed our campaign. when carly initially endorsed, before that announcement, she and i sat down and talked at great length. one of the things that struck me in that conversation, she said i have a condition for endorsing. i kind of sat back, said, all right, what is that? she said, i don't do anything halfway. if i endorse i want to be all-in. i want to be campaigning. i want to be working. i want to be doing everything i can to make the case to the american people. [cheers and applause] that's the kind of condition you like to hear. her condition was, my endorsement is not just an empty rubberstamp, a one little momentary fluff in the wind.

it is rather a full commitment, because carly looked at me, and said, our country is in crisis, and we've got to do this together. [applause] and since that time, i have seen her day in day out, on the campaign bus, going from stop to stop, to stop that she is careful she is measured, she is serious. she doesn't get overly excited. she doesn't get rattled by whatever is getting thrown at her. [applause] and you know, we all saw that when in win of the earliest debates, carly confronted donald trump. [cheering]

a man who in his characteristic understatement said of her, look at that face. [booing] and everyone of us remembers the grace, the class, the elon with which carly responded. [cheering] responded to donald she knew exactly what he was saying and that every woman in america knew exactly what donald trump was saying. [cheers and applause] you know one of the straight principles of bullies, they feed off of fear. they feed off of people who will cower in the corner, when they yell and scream and insult and holler and curse and they don't know what to do, when a strong, powerful woman stands up and says, i am not afraid. [cheers and applause]

the third characteristic that is oh, so important for a president, is character. at the end of the day it is all about character. if the president is a no good scoundrel, if the president is a narcissist, if the president is a abusive and angry, they will not and can not be a good president. [applause] and for anyone who doubts that, we need only look at the past seven years to see what happens. [applause] and a good president miss have

known struggle. must be able to understand those who are struggling. if you have always lived a life of privilege, if you have always been told you are the chosen one, that has real impacts on the job you can do as president. when carly started as a secretary in a small firm in an environment, in the business world at that was not always welcoming to women, she knew and knows what it's like to struggle in the work place each and every day. the but she also has faced personal struggle, including being diagnosed with breast cancer, battling cancer, and surviving cancer. [cheers and applause] the as a son who was by my

mother's side when she battled breast cancer, i know how deficitting that disease can be and i know what a testament to her strength and grit and fortitude that she came roaring back, ready to conquer the world. [cheers and applause] and carly has known tragedy including the loss of her stepdaughter to a drug overdose. there is no pain on the face of the planet commensurate with the pain of a parent losing a child. and carly has strug felled through that and -- going through those personal struggles, everyone of us here faced personal struggles, when

you are facing the void, when you are facing the abyss, you fine your character, you fine who you are, you find your faith, you find your grounding. [cheers and applause] maybe that's why carly isn't intimidated by bullyies. [cheering] because she faced challenges a lot worse than someone bellowing and yelling and insulting her face. [cheers and applause] and let me tell you at a personal level, heidi and i have become friends with carly. we've spent time with her on the campaign trail. we've laughed, we watched basketball games together. we have marveled at this crazy, wild journey and i'll tell you our girls, caroline and

catherine, have come to adore carly. [applause] on the bus on the the on campaign trail, carly makes up songs and sings them to our daughters. the girls, eight and five, both regularly text carly. and let me tell you, carly may become the first vice president in history to have a very impressive fluency with heart and smily faced emoticons. [applause] when you're texting with a five-year-old girl or eight-year-old girl, those are highly valuable. now listen, some might ask why

now? it is traditional a vice-presidential nominee is announced at the convention. it is unusual to make the announcement as early as we're doing so now. well i think all would acknowledge this race, if anything, it is unusual. where we are now, the mainstream media, the new york media executives and washington lobbyists, are all trying to tell the american people the race is over. [booing] but let me tell you where we are right now. where we are right now, nobody is getting to 1237 delegates. [cheers and applause] i'm not getting to 1237 delegates and donald j. trumpp is not getting to 1237

delegates. [cheers and applause] and the hoosier state will have a powerful voice making that clear. [cheers and applause] so why make this announcement now? if we are to win, win the nomination, but even number two, more importantly win the general election, we must unite. [applause] and carly as a vice-presidential nominee who i believe is it superbly skilled, superbly-gifted at helping unite this party, bring us together, so we stand united as one. [cheers and applause]

secondly, i make this announcement today, so that you, the voters, the voters in indiana, the voters in nebraska, the voters in south dakota, and washington state and california, and across the country, so that you will know what you will get. [applause] the voters deserve to know, you deserve to have a candidate who doesn't change as the wind blows at any given moment. you deserve to know exactly where a candidate stands. chop halt. [cheers and applause] and final reason for making the decision now, is to give the american people a clear choice.

elections are about choices. across this country millions of americans are struggling with an economy that isn't working, with the obama clinton economy that is stagnant, are seeing the bill of rights under assault, religious liberty, the second amendment violated by the federal government. [booing] a supreme court hanging in the balance. a president who abandons our friends and allies, whether it is great britain or whether it is israel. [booing] and a president who is unwilling to stand up and confront radical islamic terrorism and defeat isis. [booing] some in the media will say, wouldn't it be easier just to throw up your hands and say, surrender? donald trump has won some of the races.

so we should step back and let him win them all. [shouting] >> never trump. >> if we nominate a candidate who is a big-government new york liberal, who is a washington insider, who agrees with hillary clinton and barack obama on issue after issue after issue -- [booing] and whose lobbiest campaign manager has told us he is only playing a part, this is only a role, he is lying to us. then wees have a republican party will have failed profoundly for this country, because the men and women of indiana know, if we give people a clear choice, between freedom and tyranny, between prosperity and poverty, between

vulnerability and weakness and peace through strength, that the american people will choose the constitution and jobs, and need dom, and security over and over again. [cheers and applause] shouting]. the difference between carly and me on the one side, and donald trump and hillary clinton on other side, could not be starker. if you want someone that will stand and fight for the working men and women of this country, fight for the men and women with callouses on your hands, fight for the single moms, fight for the young people, fight for those who are struggling and

want to achieve the american dream, then do not go with the washington insiders who have sold us down the river. this nation know that donald trump and hillary clinton both will be disasterous for this nation! [cheers and applause] see what we have, you know, donald trump and hillary clinton, they are two sides of the same coin. they're both liberal. we know that. but, you know, hillary clinton, like so many politicians, hillary clinton has made her millions selling access and influence from inside the system. and donald trump has made his billions buying people like hillary clinton. [shouting] they are not going to challenge the system that has sold us all down the river. they're not going to challenge the elites. they're not going to challenge the crony capitalists. they're not going to challenge the washington insiders. they are not going to challenge the lobbyists. my gosh, their campaign is filled with them. no, they're not going to challenge the system. they are the system. [cheering] but we, good for you. now you get a few more to vote. but we've been traveling. around the country and i've come to know ted and heidi and caroline and catherine. i know two girls that i just

adore ♪ ♪ i'm so happy i can see them more ♪ ♪ because we travel on the bus all day, we get to play, we get to play ♪ i won't bore you with anymore of the song. they have four verses, caroline and catherine, i love you girls. [cheering] here's what i have come to know about this man who must be the next president of the united states. [cheers and applause] he's a fighter too. he has been in lots of fights. he has fought for our religious liberty. he has fought for our right to bear arms. >> yeah! >> he has fought over and over in front of the supreme court so many times and he has won all those fights. [cheering] you know there are people who

say, well, you know he has made some enemies. listen, as someone who's challenged the status quo all of my life, that's what i've done. that is how you get from secretary to ceo. you challenge the status quo. actually the only way you solve festering problems. lord knows we have festering problems in washington, d.c. the only way you solve festering problems, you actually have to challenge the status quo. and i'll tell you something about challenging the system and the status quo. you do more than ruffle feathers. you do more than rock the boat. you make enemies. so i am reassured and i am proud of some of the enemies that ted cruz has made. [cheers and applause] it means he is going to fight. and this is our fight. but let me telling you something else about this man. those two girls that i adore, caroline and catherine, let me tell you how much they adore

their dad. i have watched ted and heidi. they are partners. they are a couple that rely on one another, just as my husband frank of over 30 years and i rely on each other through good times and in bad. ted is a lot of fun, yes, let's face it. he is really brilliant. he is constitutional attorney for heavens sakes. but he is a lot of fun. in fact he mentioned watching a basketball game. we were on the bus and we were watching the final four. we were watching the very last game, villanova, and north carolina. here we are in the final, if you remember that name, that game, you're a basketball state, right? you remember that game. so here we are, hoosiers. anyway, is 4.38 seconds to go in the game and without knowing what the exciting finish would be, here is ted cruz putting money on the game.

everybody has money flowing on the table. he is a heck of a lot of fun. more than that he actually is what he says he is. he is who he says he is. [cheering] you know, ted mentioned that second debate and one of the things that i got asked in that debate was, and i've been asked almost every day since, well, will you support donald trump if he is the nominee? and i said then what i said the week he announced his candidacy, he doesn't represent me and he does not represent my party. [cheering] but here's something else i said in the that second debate. i said you know, there's an old saying tough times build character. that is not true. tough times reveal character.

character is revealed over time and under pressure. character is revealed in the pattern of someone's life, not in what they choose to say behind a podium. and i can tell you that the character of ted cruz has been revealed over time and under pressure and in the pattern of his life. [cheering] he is a principled fighter. he is a man of character and conviction. and he understands the importance of the constitution to future of this nation. [cheering] now i have to take a moment and explain why the constitution even matters. because you know there are some people would say, well, it is a dusty relic. it was written so long ago. let me tell you why it matters. to tell you why it matters, i need to go back and tell you a little bit about myself.

when i was a little girl, just eight years old, i was in sunday school one morning. my mother was my sunday school teacher that year. and she looked at me and the rest of her class and said, what you are is god's gift to you. what you make of yourself is your gift to god. [cheering] i have traveled and lived and worked all over the world for decades. i have seen people in every possible corner of the globe and in every conceivable circumstance. i can tell you that indeed, each of us, all of us, are gifted by god. each of us, each of us and all of us have the capacity and the desire to lives of dignity and purpose and meaning. and we know, and it's always

been true, work done well brings us dignity and family brings us purpose and faith gives meaning to our lives. [cheering] and that is true all over the world. when people do not have the opportunity to work they lose dignity. and when families are afraid, purpose becomes uncertain. and when people are disconnected from their faith they lose meaning in their lives. so if everyone is gifted by god, if everyone has the desire and capacity to live a life of dignity and purpose and mining, we must ask ourselves now as americans, when we face so much in this fight, we must ask ourselves, more things have been more possible, for more people from more places here than anywhere else on earth? because knowing the answer to that question is what will save

the future of this nation. [cheers and applause] i am keenly aware, i am keenly aware, that it is only in this nation that a young woman can start out the way i did, typing, filing, answering the phones for a nine-person real estate firm, one da chief executive of what we turned into the largest technology company in the world, run for president of the united states, and run now for the vice president sy of the united states. david: carly fiorina, who will be the running mate of ted cruz, if he becomes the nominee of the republican party. of course there is still a long road to go in that direction before it happens. they're speaking in indianapolis next tuesday of course, a very important primary in indiana.

let's bring in panel for reaction. jonah goldberg is back. hadley heat manning from the independent women's forum. we should mention it is open primary in indiana. people who are democrats can vote in the republican primary. doesn't that usually help trump? >> usually it does. of course cruz, with his naming of carly fiorina is trying to change the narrative, change, shift some of the energy during this campaign season. she will be a huge asset to his campaign and to conservative movement as a whole. he mentioned maybe this was too early to be naming a vp some people ask is highlights fiorina, spokeswoman too late actually for the cruz campaign. melissa: jonah, we'll let you answer the question, what do you think? >> everyone is calling this a hail carly pass. desperate chance to change momentum. things are looking bleak and

dire. i am big fan of carly fiorina, i think she is one of the articulate, spokespeople on the conservative side of the aisle. it is worth pointing out, if cruz is going to do, pick a running mate, there weren't a lot of other options to go from that had been vetted, that had sort of gravitas and willing to do it. clearly marco rubio, i was pushing a loscubano ticket for the all year and it never expired. david: you have to. we have 20 seconds, what about carly's power going after hillary? a lot of people say it is never stopped donald trump, the fact he is a male going after a female? >> first, fiorina and cruz have to go against donald trump. she has proven she can do that without lowering herself to hess kind of rhetoric. that will be key teal for cruz campaign, before he possibly maybe not even to the general election.
