wasn't necessarily the case in the latter part of his presidency and i didn't take the president trashing president reagan as much as the party in working with infrastructure and jobs in our question. here is the charge-- here is the chart, leslie, i don't like chart. president reagan walked into the white house in january of 1981. the growth rate in that year was 2%. in '82, the recession hit and we were down 1.9%, that was a recession. but then, when the tax cuts kicked in, we got 4% growth and 7% growth, 4%, 3, 3, 4, that's the record of the 1980's, that is the record of cutting taxes, helping private enterprise, not government, private enterprise and that's what happened. and this president, barack

entry-level low wage jobs. and that's why we have this dichotomy where jobs are soaring but the economy is going nowhere. stuart: okay. >> we're sitting right now with 4 million unfilled great jobs. skill-base jobs that do not require the genius of job creation. they need to be filled. and, by the way, those jobs have the virtue of being multiplier jobs. if you fill them in computer science or other industries, they need two or three people to help get this job accomplished. so the 4 million could easily turn into -- stuart: 4 million well paid jobs. >> these are great jobs, and what we have is a structural problem. everything we're doing, holding interest rates low, bumping the minimum wage, we bump the minimum wage seven times since reagan. let's dothan eighth. it's necessary but nowhere near sufficient because it builds up the demand. those increased wages will not be going into savings. they'll be spending. but very quickly all work out. but what we're not focusing is
11:34 am
where we're losing jobs. we're losing jobs overseas, we're losing jobs to disruption. i'll give you an example. in the next ten years, we're going to create 1.5 million computer science jobs. spectacular jobs. no nation on earth will come close. now let's look at the talent management side. if that's what we're creating, how are you doing in filling this jobs? we graduate about 40,000 people a year in computer science. so in ten years, what that means is there's going to be 1 million people short. we have -- that's how you get 4 million jobs that are available we can't fill. we have to look at building a bridge between our youth like the young woman you had on earlier. stuart: yeah. >> and the need of this nation. we are creating spectacular jobs. stuart: okay. now, you've laid out a very interesting case there. why are you supporting donald trump? because you are a trump guy. >> i am. look, he is -- stuart: is he the right guy in this situation to fill those 4 million jobs that you're talking about?

modern economy in the modern world in history. that's what he's saying. you're saying the exact opposite. he has not managed the recovery well. stuart: let's give an example. that's exactly what i'm saying. the united states wants to be a global trading partner. we want to be a big player in international trade. so let's look at at it tractor-trailer. how are we doing? well, if you look at the ten largest shipping ports in the world, none of them in the united states. six of them are in china. we have not made the infrastructure investments, it was the envy of the world, it is crumbling, nobody, democrat or republican is debating that. i think the obama administration squandered one of the greatest industries in our history. let's move heaven and earth to create great jobs, he would go down as one of the greatest presidents we ever had, he singly failed on that approac a. stuart: peter, you know what you're talking about. >> pleasure to be with you. stuart: we really appreciate that. and especially a man in your position.
