republicans in the state of washington. 44 delegates at stake. still there's political skulduggery underway apparently, and even such a beautiful place as washington state. but trump tonight is in new mexico, and so is fox news chief political correspondent carl cameron in albuquerque with our report. >> thanks, lou, donald trump is officially kicking off first fund-raising trip with stops in new mexico, california, montana this week. he's been defensive when it comes to press reports that money he intended to raise for veterans skipping a debate was never fully delivered. >> i raised almost $6 million for the veterans including putting up $1 million of my own money. i had no obligation to do anything or do so and i get nothing but bad press from the dishonest media. absolutely disgraceful. why don't they look into the clinton foundation if you want to see dishonesty.

>> reporter: to brand him as a sexist and misogynist, trump is firing back recalling the scandal that dogged bill clinton including allegations by juanita broaddrick and the death of vince foster, something trump called fishy. >> i would not have used it, obviously, grabs a lot of attention, this is a race against her, not against her husband, and i think to a certain extent he's got to show policy chops, a lot of things to run against her oclinton foundation, the whole nine yards. bill clinton is the past, she's the future, and obviously trump has to be the future. >> reporter: hillary clinton is doing much the same thing, blasting trump for having looking forward to a housing market collapse in 2006 because he could have profited from it. >> i hope that happens because people like me would buy. if there is a bubble burst, as they call it, you know, you can make a lot of money. >> reporter: poll after poll shows a dead heat between two

11:09 pm
>> reporter: fox news confirmed terry mcauliffe is the focus of an investigation into campaign contributions, around chinese billionaire businessman who donated $120,000 to mcauliffe's 2013 gubernatorial campaign as well as $2 million to the clinton foundation. mcauliffe, a longtime clinton ally sat on the board of the clinton global initiative. he was shocked to learn of the investigation and said that wang's contributions were properly vetted. >> 100%, all i can do is rely on two law firms who did the vetting on this check. i can only rely, i did not personally get the check, i rely on the people who did the vetting for it. said he had a green card from 2007, so a contribution came in and they unequivocally said he was entitled to write a check. >> reporter: white house has u.s. permanent status but he is

lou: donald trump forced to play catch-up when it comes to raising campaign money. the campaign raising over $57 million, 2.4 million cash on hand. by comparison, the clinton campaign has raised more than $200 million. 30 million in cash. the only pro trump pac is the great american pac. it's raised 2.5 million since forming in february. 300,000 in cash on hand. four main pacs backing hillary clinton raised 89 million. you see the problem, right?
11:16 pm
the largest clinton pac priorities has 46 million in cash on hand. right now, it's not a fair fight. joining us, former reagan white house political director and great america pac strategist, one of the folks trying to make it a little bit foreign affair fight, ed rollins, pulitzer prize-winning columnist for the "new york post," michael goodwin, good to have you both here. those numbers are daunting, i guess to anyone but other than donald trump. that's a huge, huge deficit. >> far more severe deficit. her pac was obama's pac. they expect to raise 300 million this time. they are free to go by television, totally uncoordinating with the campaign. people forget, the last week on her campaign last time, romney got outbought on television, 55 million to $18 million. lou: say that again? >> the last week of the

campaign by the super pacs romney got outspend 55 million to $18 million. lou: again, didn't sound like a fair fight and a lot more went into the outcome than that. >> no, but you don't want to be outspent in the closing weeks of the campaign. lou: what's the deal, michael. you are watching this, covering it. trump has been able to use free media all along. he earned media, if you prefer. it's been remarkable. can he count on that for the rest of the way? is that what's going in your judgment? >> may be counting on it, that would be a mistake. he would always be a lightning rod for television, he's very accessible. that is something he doesn't get enough credit for. lou: exactly. as far as i know there isn't an outfit he has refused to talk to. >> right, right, including the ones at savage and routinely at "new york times," whereas clinton plays hide-and-seek all the time. i think ed is correct that at
11:18 pm
the end of the day, to have a fair fight on television and the various media and direct mail you need a lot of money, and trump is way behind in the category. lou: ed, there's a lot of -- you're getting a lot of press right now, your pac is getting a lot of press, and stories about infighting, and what happens from here and trump has said he didn't want super pacs and spotting up here, including yours. >> the reason i got into it was not to made any money, i never made any money in politics. i do it as invocation, and my wife will attest. i know how to run campaigns and know the people to bring in quickly. i can put it together very quickly. lou: let me just put it this way. is this infighting? is something going on here? you and roger stone have a history. >> roger stone is irrelevant, he's close to trump.
11:19 pm
>> i told you! >> he's irrelevant. my trump is this is donald trump's campaign, he can run it any way, shape, or form he wants to. no offense to him, he won a primary, trashed very good candidates, i think i know more about how to run a campaign than he does. i know the intricacies how the rnc works. lou: how about paul manafort? how about wiley. >> good operatives, but they cut the big deal with the rnc, and which now, if you want to donate, you could give $450,000 to the rnc. how much of that money comes to trump? >> not as much as he would like. >> $2700 for each race. $5400 he gets out of each -- >> i didn't realize that limitation. >> 2700, they can spend money, historically no campaign ever lets the rnc run or the dnc run your campaign. you go in and you take it over. you put your people in there,
11:20 pm
you use what you can use, they are totally dependent on the rnc to run their campaign if they don't have the resources. >> what do you make of this? >> it's an odd decision given the difficulty with the rnc. given that paul ryan, the highest-ranking republican in the house has not endorsed him. turning all your money raising apparatus over to the rnc seems like a real mistake. >> i want to go to one other thing because it is so critically important to the future of the nation, if i may, and that is the front page of the "new york post" today, and since no one knows more about the michael post than michael goodwin, dirty bills, putting up president clinton and bill cosby, both of whom, fitting the bill if you will. >> first, the long legged model has nothing to do with the story. take your eyes off the model.
11:21 pm
lou: never were for a moment. but the dirty bills, lou, it's this odd confluence of bill cosby and bill clinton, the sexual allegations story. lou: and they're going after bill cosby now, finally. >> yes, that's right. a judge is requiring him to stand trial in a 2004 allegation. and that simultaneously, trump has this instagram ad out about bill clinton, and the escapades of the 90s. so you hl see the confluence, one msnbc anchor confused them today. this is going to be -- lou: confused who was bill cosby. >> he said bill clinton has to stand trial, i mean bill cosby has to stand trial. lou: normally i don't care references to that particular network and its talent. >> or lack thereof of a talent. >> that was irresistible. lou: good to have you here.

. lou: a few thoughts on an unbearably incompetent erratic and irresponsible assortment of federal bureaucrats in washington, d.c. veterans affairs secretary bob mcdonald was supposed to be, well, a solution, not a part of the problem. he was brought into clean up the mess that is our number one agency responsible for the care of our veterans, and tonight mcdonald is under fire after he had the audacity to compare
11:28 pm
wait times for veterans' health care to lines at disneyland. but today mcdonald refused initially to apologize for his comments. >> wait times are important, but they're not the only measure of veteran experience. and that's what veterans are telling us, you know, we've talked to a lot of veterans, it's important, and if i was misunderstood or if i said the wrong thing, i'm glad that you have been corrected. lou: he means he's sorry, doesn't he? he means he's sorry. isn't our boy, bob, all uppity there, for a guy that screws up as much as he has, maybe he should try out just a little modesty, and maybe learn how to say i'm sorry. obviously, he's caught that washington view he's never wrong, that others just aren't smart enough to appreciate his brilliance no matter how much he screws up. mcdonald's a guy who was

brought into fix the va and replace general eric shinseki, forced to resign in 2014 after reports of our veterans dying while waiting, that's right, waiting for care, in lines that were even longer then. but the bunglers and the bureaucratic nightmare not limited to the va permeating indeed the entire federal government. the irs commissioner, john koskinen facing the prospect of impeachment. imagine that. people the! the commissioner is accused of lying to congress in the agency's conservative targeting scandal, and this, also the same man who ultimately replaced former irs head steven miller, the very same bureaucrat who stonewalled congress and got away with it and helped lois lerner slip from the commerce committee's grasp and got away with it, do you notice a trend with our nation's bureaucrats?

11:37 pm
ground game, i think they'll basically run that for him. overall, campaign spending, hillary clinton is going to raise with allies a billion dollars and spend a billion dollars. she is a very predictable traditional candidate. we know what she's going to do and her cronies. trump has attracted over two billion dollars of free advertising, that's not going to stop or change in the general election. lou: some say that it will. as a matter of fact, they say it's hubris for him to make, to expect a continuation. >> how's it going so far though, right? he's going to be the nominee. she's going to be the nominee and he's dominating. lou: you are not worried about it at small. >> i do have some concerns about nuts and bolts that it takes to win a campaign where a good ground game can win two or three points. there is money that is required there. lou: money that is required and money not there, but you're not worried about it? >> i will be more concerned if
11:38 pm
trump doesn't start raising money which he is going to. he's blaming the rnc for doing, it but he's going to start doing it. lou: and trump attacking the clintons as the way the national liberal media, some parts of it are. msnbc saying it's a new throw bring up president clinton's past with women. your thoughts? >> i think the one thing i've learned about all of this, we can say things are out of bounds or off-limits. donald trump can go there and it work. he points to a thing that makes the seed of doubt get in people. i might not agree, i couldn't get away with it, but he can. lou: wait, wait, wait, you said you wouldn't get away with it, that's different than saying that you wouldn't do it. if you could get away with it, would you do it, if you're involved in a campaign? >> i wouldn't, in this particular issue, i wouldn't. however, i think it's really, really important to understand that i'm not donald trump.
11:39 pm
lou: i think i've got that part down. here's what i don't understand. >> yes. lou: they're attacks trump, he is doing what he's done for the last ten months which is counterattacking and doing so powerfully, and perhaps even proportionately here, why would you not, guy, go after everything that is there. she is conducting the war on women strategy against him. they're going after him in an energetic manner, why not? >> i think you have to be careful about the person that you're attacking. bill clinton, i think a lot of the stuff is in many ways fair game. there are a lot of younger voters who never heard of names like juanita broaddrick. if there's a war on women, why did hillary clinton help aid, defend and abet what they call the clinton white house.
11:40 pm
the counterpoint is this is a man he invited for his wedding, called for advice before he was president. if he was a rapist, why did he do those things. lou: going after them because he not necessarily hoped but would take advantage if there was a crash in 2006. what do you think, lee? is that an unfair charge or appropriate? what about his response? >> you know, look, i think is it fair? is it unfair? i think everything, when they say all is fair in love and war, and i think they're at war. it's absolutely fair he says it. but the bottom line is i don't think it's going to have an impact, i don't think it matters. he can pivot this back and say i was a smart businessman, smart businessman make deals. lou: and most people understand it, too. guy, you get the last word. >> they can't say unfair attack, he's on tape saying it. most people say that's donald trump. he's going to come in and try to take advantage of the
11:41 pm
situation. the question is, are the people who aren't offended by it, do they outnumber the people here's this rich billionaire waiting for a bubble to burst where i got hurt. lou: he's a businessman and straightforward, never thinking he would be running for president in 2016, and having a lot of fun doing it. >> either did we. lou: lee carter, guy benson, thank you so much. >> great to see you. lou: cage divers have a show of a lifetime on a recent dive in south africa, we get a video of that remarkable encounter with what you see there. a great white shark that is testing the limits of that steel cage. he's launching himself out of the water feet away from the diving cage. great white sharks usually breach to catch unsuspecting prey like fast moving seals or slow moving people, and a great way to terrify human beings, and that's about all we can take for right now.
11:42 pm
at least for me. up next, donald trump fed up with the media's love affair with hillary clinton. >> she goes on very few shows and notice the other night she was on a show and they gave her questions and negotiate the questions. lou: stuart varney to take that up next, you don't want to mis. i have asthma... ...one of many pieces in my life. so when my asthma symptoms kept coming back on my long-term control medicine. i talked to my doctor and found a missing piece in my asthma treatment with breo. once-daily breo prevents asthma symptoms. breo is for adults with asthma not well controlled on a long-term asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. breo won't replace a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems. breo opens up airways to help improve breathing for a full 24 hours. breo contains a type of medicine that increases the risk of death from asthma problems and may increase the risk of hospitalization in children and adolescents. breo is not for people whose asthma is well controlled on a long-term asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid.

. lou: joining us now my colleague and friend stuart varney, host of "varney & co." which airs on fox business network weekdays starting at 9:00 a.m. eastern. great to see. >> you good evening, lou. lou: let's start with clinton and trump. i mean, they're going at it, and clinton seems to be still shielded by the national media. nbc saying it's a new low to bring up president clinton's past. >> you're talking about the trump ad, anti-hillary ad where he brings up bill's women. i think it was a very strong punch or counterpunch, whichever you prefer. i thought it was strong and effective. you and i talk politics all the time. lou: yes, we do. >> in our private life. that's what we do. i'm surprised to hear from my friends recently who never heard of juanita broaddrick.
11:47 pm
never heard of her and along comes this ad -- lou: i have older friends, stuart. >> people in their 40s and 50s. lou: my point. >> so they google her. lo and behold they found out about the fact that bill clinton allegedly raped juanita broaddrick while he was attorney general of the state of arkansas. they didn't know. that trump brings it right out to the front and hillary defended him and attacked all of the women that are in that trump ad. i thought it was very powerful for him to reach back and bring it to the present. lou: particularly as he's being attacked and the skirmish over the war on women that clinton is engaging in, it doesn't seem to be -- one of the things i'm anxious to see is the polling we're going to see over the next couple of weeks as we move toward the primary in california, two weeks from now, this is going to be an interesting feedback on how these punches and counterpunches are going?
11:48 pm
