interviewed and was able to purchase the guns, on two occasions fbi had contact with mr. mateen, one occasions where coworkers reported, they saw something and said something, he apparently saying that he had contacts with terrorists as recently as 2013, they investigated that and were unable to establish any evidence. his ex-wife says perhaps more than a political agenda this was mental illness on his part, his father said that it was motivated by homophobia. he claimed allegiance to isis and now, of course, we have isis claiming allegiance to him. this will unfold throughout the

the largest mass shooting of terrorist in the united states in our history. what is the change in strategy to fight against isis. we can't let this continue to happen. morgan: it's not a problem that can be easily solved. what we have seen al-qaeda, you remember back in the day we had these from osama ben laden, from that isis has grown sophisticated in their reach. we used to mention that you use today get radicalized from going to a mosque. now inch can go on facebook, twitter, telegram and see radicalized messages. if you look at somebody like the shooter, they can take these actions. so it's not an easy simple answer for how you fight them

but i think that we have to be realistic that isis has success es attacks are going to continue. lauren: the shooter was born right here in new york, spent his life in the united states, was living in florida, i mean, that's the realtor ror threat getting radicalized here in the u.s. morgan: absolutely, i'm grateful what homeland security and fbi officials do from happened. pretending that the threat doesn't exist or pretending this iraq and syria won't affect us is unfortunately not going to get rid of the threat. nicole: the muslim community

today, your thoughts on the muslims here in the united states and how this could affect them? morgan: you know, i've seen a lot of messages from muslim americans condemning the violence, condemning that isis doesn't speak for them and we saw a similar statement condemning isis. what gets to the heart of the matter are the messages that are preached in these mosques, in saudi arabia and throughout the world and africa and southeast asia, the muslim world needs to get control of the radical messages that are preached to young children and until the religion really takes a hard look at itself and propaganda in these mosques, this type of violence will continue. lauren: morgan, do we know if mateen traveled abroad, we know he was a security guard working for a british company, but that was here in the u.s. do we know anything about the travels? morgan: i think we will get more information in the coming days.

what the fbi and analysts will be doing is looking at his phone, computer, social media and trying to -- see, there's very valuable intelligence there because you can see -- you can connect dots, so to speak of who he was working with or communicating with or how that message reaches them and to go back full circle isis does hope and -- they want these type of loan-wolf attacks because this plays to pr agenda of saying, al-qaeda say the caliphate was in the future, isis says the caliphate is now. nicole: all right, morgan ortegus, intelligence expert as we continue to follow the breaking news this morning. there's also a brief and jeff block is there in orlando says there's a briefing not for reporters but the families at 8:00 a.m. this morning so we will listen for that as well.
