11:00 pm
thanks for joining us. good night from new york. keep it right here, the man himself, lou dobbs is next. fox business. lou: good evening. i'm lou dobbs. people in orlando, the nation, the world tonight mourning 49 people slaughtered in a radical islamist terror attack on a gay nightclub. the deadliest mass shooting in american history. authorities digging into the background of 29-year-old omar mateen. he was previously investigated by the f.b.i. for his remarks about support of mayor rifle. he was armed with an ar-15 semi-automatic nightclub and a
11:01 pm
handgun when he approached the fuss nightclub at 2:00 in the morning. he engaged a police officer but he was able to enter the nightclub and gain entry. officers arrived and they were able to drive him into the bathroom where he held hostages. ' but at 5:15 officers bunched a hole in the wall. when mateen climbed out. he engaged in fire with the police, and was gunned down. f.b.i. director james comey said mateen had strong indications of terrorist sympathies and he called 911 during the attack and pledged loyalty to the islamic state. but at the white house president

obama called it another apparent example of what he termed quote homegrown extremism. among our guests. phil gavin and fox news terrorism expert dr. walid phares and the tearest attack resonating on the campaign trail where donald trump blasted president obama for his refusal to blame the massacre on radical islam. >> they have put political correctness above common sense. above your safety and above all else. i refuse to be politically correct. the media talks about home-grown terrorism. but islamic radicalism and that's a very, very important term, a term that the president refuses to use, and the networks that nurture it are imports from joaferl seas. whether you like the or whether
11:03 pm
you don't like it. lou: mike pompeo will join us tonight. orlando gunman omar mateen was born in new york. he was raised in florida to afghan immigrants. mateen was known to the f.b.i. who investigated shim twice for terrorist ties. in may of 2013 the f.b.i. opened what turned out to be a 10-month long investigation. after mateen told his co-workers he had family ties to al qaeda. was a member of a shiia terrorist organization and hoped the feds would raid his home and assault his family so he could retaliate and back martyr. the f.b.i. did two in-person interviews in which mateen admitted making terrorist flames to flip out as he put it his co-workers because they teased him for being muslim.
11:04 pm
the f.b.i. found this information if not plausible, at least acceptable. he went to the same mosque as the suicide booker in syria. at that time a witness told the f.b.i. mateen was watching videos of radical american cleric and war al-awlaki. bust fine need evidence of intent to commit a crime before they could act. former nypd officer and secret service agent. dan, your reaction to the -- to the carnage on one man's absolute insistence that he
11:05 pm
would be a martyr and kill as many americans as possible. >> this is disturbing. these sole pro priors, i refuse to call them lone wolves. these sole proprietors soft target attacks. isis figured out a long time ago, roughly than spend a million dollars training a small cell of terrorists to fly 737s into buildings and leaving potential clues behind, but that they could do a social media video and inspire someone like this murderer. this is the new terrorist foot point for the path forward.
11:06 pm
lou: the f.b.i., the local police, they seem to react as quickly as they knew how. and the tragic loss of life is just something this administration seems to suggest we should accept. i don't know of any american who is willing to call this the new normal and accept this as the way in which we are going to live. >> there is absolutely no way it can be or should be accepted in the way we are going to live in this country. we have a strong country that can do what is necessary to eliminate this scourge. to take them out in syria, and to also use the resources here in the homeland to get rid of them here, too. but we have somebody residing in the white house that refuses to identify the problem for what it is, radical islamic extremism. we have somebody in the white house who tried to tie the hands and gag the military from doing
11:07 pm
the job they can do so well. he has absolutely tried to change the aspects of the f.b.i. or intelligence agencies. he's trying to create a united states in his own image and likeness. but unfortunately he created a presidency that looks more lining longfellow's wreck of the hesperius it's deplorable. lou: the white house insisted on a change reaching into various agencies includingment f.b.i. to purge what it considered to be politically incorrect language that could influence investigation and the ability of the f.b.i. to carry out its responsibilities. your thoughts, bill? >> that he did. he reached in and had training programs change. thanked verbiage changed because
11:08 pm
he thought it quo would be offensive to muslims. it isn't offensive to citizens of this country who care for this country. it's offensive only to potus, and unfortunately it transfers all the way down to the rest of the agencies that have to be responsible to him. lou: as you look at what is happening, there seems to be a tremendous disconnect at the in terms of intelligence. this is one man-knows how many people the f.b.i. has to deal with and has to worry about, and to investigate. but then this man -- there are suggestions that the f.b.i. couldn't come to any other conclusion because of politically correct limits just as bill was talking about in it investigation. they couldn't go beyond to his two trips to saudi arabia.
11:09 pm
your thoughts? >> well, they could. bill is right. i worked with the f.b.i. on joint terror task force cases. one large one that the department of homeland security used as a model for training. these f.b.i. agents know exactly what they are doing. there are very good and very talented. it's the pressure the top from the d.o.j. to run politically correct investigations that put the lives of americans in real danger in real-time. it's like asking a master carpenter to build a bookcase with no hammer when you ask the f.b.i. to do things under politically correct rules under surveillance because they don't want to offend people. lou: saying that we are at war with the islamic state, saying
11:10 pm
if he's elected president there will be a pause in immigration from muslims from islamic jihadist regionals of the world until we know what we are doing and what they are doing. this idea of political correctness has left us extraordinarily vulnerable. he used the term, "this deadly ignorance can't go on." will, your thoughts as we wrap up. >> i wish i could do something more than shrug my shoulders and say he's wrong. but he's not wrong. i would love for him to package it differently to get more votes. but he's saying what everybody kind of believes in. it's going to be a tragic set of circumstances unless we make the course corrections. lou: it seem almost inconceivable that a president could risk the lives of americans, the national security
11:11 pm
of the nation because of some sort of high-bound and unshared vision of what is politically correct and what is a responsibility and a duty of the commander-in-chief and the president of the united states. dan? >> yeah, you are right. but you have to understand. when you triage your priority, and barack obama's first priority is i fundamental transformation to the social structure of the united states. we have to stop asking why. when you figure out barack obama is motivated by a specific set of societal transformations altering the united states citizens' relationship with the government, all of this makes sense. what is his first position? gun control? do you realize the terrorists have to be laughing at us?
11:12 pm
they ahe -- attacked us, and the president of the united states' first response is disfarm yourselves while he's sitting in a white house protected by secret service agents. it's absurd it's an outrange. lou: thank you both. we are coming right back. there is much more to cover, and we'll. stay with us. how does president obama respond to the orlando terrorist attack? he calls for more gun control. he won't even use the words "radical islamist." donald trump today delivered his most important foreign policy speech so far. he declared war against the islamic state. >> when i'm elected i will suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a

lou: donald trump called for a temporary ban on countries known for terrorism and he called for increased surveillance of mosques during an interview with "fox and friends" this morning. >> we have to be strong with our military security. we have to be strong in term of looking at the mosques. lou: dr. walid phares, a foreign policy adviser to donald trump. let's talk about the president's refusal to use the "radical islamist" term. he referred to it as home-grown extremism. word that mean nothing. and he uses it with great enthusiasm which suggests he wants to convey nothing.
11:18 pm
your thoughts? >> well, he just tried to explain the perpetrator of the massacre yesterday was inspired by these extremist ideas. so what are these extremist idea? it look like there is a bridge miles long and nobody in his administration is able to explain. it's all we need to know. americans would like to know how to recognize a jihadist. you have to explain it, mr. president. lou: radical islamists. i have been using that term on this broadcast since early 2012 since we did a lot of on-air discussion about terms and terminology to define the tell ban and al qaeda. and those were the word that were utility then according to

11:20 pm
whether they be sunni, shiia, wherever they may be throughout the muslim world, to donald trump's speech today. >> there i this whole propaganda idea which is manufactured by the enemies or the opponents of mr. trump, the whole world has gone crazy that mr. trump is. and what many of these opinion makers in the gulf and egypt and north trick and elsewhere are saying we need a change in your policy. we need the united states policy to change so we can stop the iran deal as mr. trump said in his speech. that we stop the influence of the muslim brotherhood, that we crush isis. they are in favor of a change and that will only come with a trump administration. lou: dr. walid phares.

lou: a few thoughts on president obama's campaign of political correctness. president obama has been carrying psychological operations against the american people i believe since he began his campaign for the white house. he conducted psychological warfare against the truth and the trust of the american people, while he did so ever since he sat down in the oval office. president obama has throughout his administration tried often successfully to diminish our anger at the radical islamist

individual emotion unrelated to the variant of that emotion that motivated mateen. the president still couldn't call the bloodbath radical islamist terrorism despite the islamic state's claim of responsibility for the attack and the established relationship between mateen and radical islamist clerics, including perhaps his own father. this is the president trying to elevate the ambiguity between cause and effect. radical islam and the horrific orlando tragedy. this our president dampening blame. and the murdering bar murder --e murdererrous barbaric results. >> this is the homegrown extremism all of us have been concerned about for.

use the words she has refused to even whisper for most of this past decade. >> to me radical jihaddism or radical islam are practically the same thing. but it mat wear we do, what we say. lou: i think she was about to say what difference does it make, but she caught herself just in time of. having the guts to name our enemy will be the least of the courage needed to destroy our enemy. donald trump is the only one who has shown that resolve. mr. obama insists bush's global war on terror be replaced hi his term, overseas contingency operation. remember that one? that was in the first year of barack obama's term in office.
11:31 pm
i settled on the phrase radical islamist? 2002 after consulting middle east and islamic scholars over a two week period in our discussion on the air. here we are 14 years and two administrations later, and our government will not speak forthrightly. in fact we have seen after 14 years, to be no nearer victory than september 11, 2001. the cost of our war on radical islamist terror has been amiss. yesterday that cost tragically went higher. when will we demand of our military, not a long war which is far more rationalization than a strategy. but instead a military strategy
