11:00 pm
the most commonsense thing i've ever heard. how that got to be controversial i will never understand. lou: there are those folks who are those folks. mark simone thanks so much and mary fickett good to have you with us. that's it for us ton prayers to the family that lost the two-year-old son. now here's lou. lou: good evening, everybody. i'm lou dobbs. donald trump today lighting up president obama for saying the use of the phrase radical islam is only a, quote, political distraction. trump appearing at a campaign rally in atlanta today said if you don't name the problem, you're never going to find a solution, and trump took aim at hillary clinton as well as the president. trump saying mr. obama is protecting her from prosecution. >> how that can happen in our country today is absolutely one of the great insults to law
11:01 pm
enforcement, and let's see what happens, she's being totally protected. she's being 100% protected. now maybe we'll all be surprised. and maybe our laws will work the way they're supposed to work. but you know what, folks? i think if something was going to happen on the crimes that have been committed, i would have assumed it would have happened already, don't you think? lou: don't you think? we'll take all of that up with former reagan white house political director, republican strategist ed rollins here in just moments. also tonight, federal prosecutors have convened a grand jury to look into possible wrongdoing by the wife of orlando terrorist omar mateen. her name is noor salman. she could be charged as an accessory to 49 counts of murder and 53 counts of attempted murder after failing to notify authorities about her husband's plans to carry out a terrorist attack. we'll be talking about the administration's failure to win
11:02 pm
the war on terror with house foreign affairs committee member congressman ron desantis and lieutenant colonel ralph peters, they join us later in the broadcast. top story tonight, the gun control debate. there is one now. donald trump today saying he will meet the national rifle association to talk about how to keep people on terrorist watch lists from buying guns. fox news senior national correspondent john roberts with our report. >> some people love me. my problem is they love me or hate me. >> reporter: under withering fire from democrats and republicans alike for his comments following the orlando massacre, donald trump wouldn't back down one inch insisting doing the same old thing when it comes to terrorism isn't working. >> we have to stop on a temporary basis, at least, but we have to stop people from pouring into our country. we have to stop it. until we find out what the hell
11:03 pm
is going on. >> reporter: president obama and hillary clinton are battering trump for what they call divisive, inappropriate rhetoric. obama angrily ridiculing trump's criticism he refuses to say radical islamic terrorism. trump firing back it makes a difference. >> unless you're willing to discuss and talk about the real nature of the problem and the name of the problem, radical islamic terrorism, you're never going to solve the problem. >> reporter: trump did say something that caught the white house's eye in a favorable way. after meeting with nra officials yesterday trump wanted to discuss denying purchases to people on the terror watch and no-fly lists. in an exclusive interview with greta van susteren, trump might be open to changing some gun laws. >> i'm going to be looking at it very, very seriously. the terror watch list and no-fly list i'm talking to the nra about that.
11:04 pm
>> reporter: the issue is a sensitive one for the nra which opposes a measure in congress to do that. their fear that innocent people wind up on the lists. trump aides wouldn't elaborate on his thoughts but the white house cautiously welcomed him to the gun control debate. >> we would welcome the support of anybody including the presumptive republican presidential nominee. >> reporter: the trump camp is explaining why trump took aim at troops who served in iraq at his rally in greensboro last night, talking about america's war record trump seemed to accuse american service members of taking money to buy the hearts and minds of locals. >> i want to know who are the soldiers that lived that job. i think they're living well whoever they might be. >> reporter: trump's camp insisted he was talking about iraqi soldiers, there were convictions for theft and bribery. last september trump appeared to implicate americans. >> i want to know who are the soldiers that are carrying cash of 50 million dollars. cash? how stupid are we?
11:05 pm
i wouldn't be surprised. if those soldiers, i wouldn't be surprised if the cash didn't get there, i have to be honest. >> reporter: trump's comments angered iraq war veterans. a new "washington post"-abc news poll finds him with a 70% disapproval rating. dismal number trump has to work hard at to reduce if he hopes to one day occupy the oval office. in atlanta, georgia, john roberts, fox news. lou: should point out that 70 point disapproval is only 15 points worse than hillary clintons. we're learning new details on the orlando terrorist attack tonight. investors focusing on omar mateen's wife. she could face criminal charges following the revelations she was aware of her husband's plans to carry out attack. fox news correspondent steve harrigan has the report from orlando. >> reporter: law enforcement officials are now calling the orlando shooting both a hate
11:06 pm
crime and a terror crime, but refuse to say whether the arrest of the killer's wife is imminent. >> i'm not going to speculate today as to any charges that may be brought or indeed about whether any charges will be brought in this case. it is premature to do so. it would interfere and hamper the investigation. >> reporter: noor salman, the 30-year-old second wife of the orlando killer could face charges as an accomplice to 49 counts of murder. salman told investigators she knew her husband was planning a, quote, jihadist attack unquote and said nothing to authorities. salman from california met the kill or a muslim dating website. the two were married in 2013 and have a three-year-old son. fbi agents searched the california home she grew up in. one of four daughters in a conservative palestinian family. salman was with the killer when
11:07 pm
he purchased ammunition and a holster and accompanied him on one of his scouting missions to the pulse nightclub. new details about the behavior of the killer during the three hour slaughter. he made at least five phone calls during the attack. three to 911, one to as-yet unidentified friend, and one to a local news station. he did not go on-air but identified himself as a shooter to the producer and wanted to make sure the station was aware of the attack. the security firm where the killer worked is defending its screening process. the weapon used for most of the killings was a six saur mcs. >> according to the manufacturer, an experienced shooter can fire up to 45 rounds in one minute. in orlando, steve harrigan, fox news.
11:08 pm
lou: we're coming right back. much more straight ahead. stay with us. when it comes to fighting radical islamist terrorists donald trump is about solutions, and clinton and her former boss are a big part of the problem. >> she is 550% increase over obama. i think it's insane. lou: to whom would you trust the nation's security and sea. clinton or trump? and this aussie is taking water skiing to a whole new level and with ease. we'll show you the head spinning video after
11:09 pm
11:10 pm
11:11 pm
11:12 pm
. lou: donald trump insisting he's right to propose a temporary ban on muslim immigration into this country. >> what i'm saying is it's a temporary ban, in particular, for certain people coming from certain horrible, where you have tremendous terrorism in the world, you know what those places are. because right now, we don't have a clue what's going on, folks. we don't have a clue. we have to be the smart country now. we've been the dummies for too long. lou: joining us tonight, one of the very smart people, former
11:13 pm
reagan white house political director, great america pac strategist, ed rollins. good to have you here. >> nice to be with you. lou: got to be smart, tough, diligent, got to be everything we haven't been. sounds like a strong and effective message. >> nothing wrong with that argument. that's what a leader's about to advocate those kinds of things. obviously we have a failed system, anybody would be a fool to say you have to fix it. you have to look hard at immigration policy and other things. lou: ed, as you say those things that's precisely what the administration is refusing to do. what hillary clinton is refusing to do. we've got a bloomberg poll out showing right now, a 49-37 advantage for hillary clinton over donald trump. the good news for trump is he leads clinton 50-45% on being stronger in combating terrorism at home and abroad. so -- >> that will be the issue as we move forward.
11:14 pm
two things dominating issues. one are the economy and who can get the economy moving again, he has the credentials and who has the strength to do the tough things that need to be done? obama proved over eight years he didn't, and mrs. clinton isn't going to be tough. she has momentum for the last two or three weeks which she won california and new jersey. lou: it's a six-point advantage for clinton right now in the real clear politics average. >> going to go back and forth, at the end of the day, convention moves numbers, this is going to be a very, very close election at the end of the day, a two or three-point race. lou: gun control, immediately the national liberal media. it's fun to watch. the "washington post," comes out quickly and welcomes donald trump aboard because he says he wants those on the terrorist watch list to be denied guns for purchase. the white house even reach us out to him. i mean this is snake oil at its worst.
11:15 pm
it is clumsy at its best. >> the majority of the country may agree with that position, but it is a constitutional right and certainly the national rifle association that fought very hard for the -- lou: i'm just talking about the democratic and liberal response. they think he's a waif, you know? >> he's not. in the heart of something as damaging as the terrible, terrible tragedy, people look for all kinds of solutions, short-term, long-term solutions, i think the critical thing, we have to look at all elements of it, which we haven't done. lou: you say we haven't done it. this administration hasn't done it. this homeland security department and this homeland security secretary have not done it. they couldn't even -- jeh johnson couldn't even answer when asked by my colleague bret baier, how many other than mexicans, otm, folks from the middle east are crossing the border.
11:16 pm
he couldn't, wouldn't, either wouldn't or couldn't give him a numerical answer to that important question. >> that's what his job is, and job is not to mislead us. lou: i never heard the man answer the question straightforwardly. >> the reality here is we have open borders, we've had open borders for a period of time, not deliberately but they're open. lou: i disagree with you, ed, it is very deliberate. you're watching 80% reduction in deportations. watching a surge at our border, which this president and his policies have invited. it is utterly intentional. >> you will have a big debate on this, and obviously trump is very much on one side and the country will get converted to his side before all is said and done. lou: i couldn't agree with you more. i also take note of the number of people in the national liberal media. not only fighting the democratic party, the nominee, the president of the united states, but his own party, some of them, the elites, paul ryan's name comes to mind, and
11:17 pm
these headlines you see the way the press treats it, they say donald trump wouldn't apologize, he wouldn't back up, he wouldn't do this or that. it's always as if the burden is on him. >> well, the burden will be. lou: point of fact he's makeing -- >> the burden is on him, and he has to fight through all this. the reality thinks they gave him an easy pass in the primaries, which they didn't. lou: if that was an easy pass? >> that's what they think, and they're going to come after him full bore. she's going to have tons of money to spend against him. what he is and she isn't, he's a leader, makes tough decisions, she isn't. lou: and the choice will be very clear. hillary clinton versus donald trump. >> or more of the same. hillary will get more of the same. lou: more of the same and more as donald trump put it, more from the same people who brought you the mess. >> i agree. lou: thanks so much, ed. great to see. >> you thank you. lou: be sure to vote in our poll tonight, the question is --
11:18 pm

. lou: donald trump promising to stand up to the democrats and save the 2nd amendment, trump said the orlando terrorist attack wouldn't have been as bad if some in the nightclub
11:24 pm
had concealed weapons. >> if some of those great people that were in that club that night had guns strapped to their waist or strapped to their ankle, and if the bullets were going in the other direction aimed at this guy who was just open target practice, you would have had a situation, folks, which would have been always horrible but nothing like the carnage that we all, as a people, suffered this weekend. lou: joining us tonight, chairman of the american conservative union matt schlapp and national co-chair of maverick pac and treasury attache to saudi arabia, morgan ortagus. he is much more effective speaker, what do you think he was saying? >> he's going to talk to the nra about banning weapons for
11:25 pm
terrorists is the smartest thing he said in a couple weeks and only wish he said it on monday to take the media narrative away. most americans are with him on this. lou: you don't really believe you can take the media narrative away. the liberal media is trying to kill the man. doesn't matter what he says or does, they're going to be attacking at him. you can look at home page of the "washington post." front page of the "new york times," just for an inkling as to what he is contending with. >> the liberal media are trying to kill the republican nominee not something that's new. lou: you've never seen this, morgan. let's be really honest with one another and our audience. have you never seen the liberal media at its worst, and it has spent considerable time there, hammer and attack so viciously a candidate as it is donald trump, ever. >> okay. so back to the guns. lou: no, i mean, either you agree or disagree.
11:26 pm
>> yeah, yeah, absolutely i agree with you, i think this is par for the course for the conservatives. lou: par for the course but it's unique in the most energetic attack on a candidate, which is it, in your view? >> i think any republican nominee is going to be attacked viciously, and he certainly is facing the brunt of it now because he's a nominee. it doesn't surprise me. lou: matt, what do you think? >> i think donald trump is running against washington, d.c., running against the elite in washington, d.c., and new york city, some ways he is that, i think whether it's politicians s like elected republicans in congress who obviously are just chaffing at the idea he's running against him, i think there's a lot of people in the news media that know he's running against them, too. the american people are running in revolt mode. lou: the american people are in revolt mode. it is the year of the outsider and every insider whether they're on the republican party, the democratic party or the national liberal media, the elites of the establishment of
11:27 pm
this country right now are -- they are returning fire on donald trump. >> that's exactly right. i think people are always saying why can't all these republican elected officials get behind donald trump? number one, the reason why they're not getting behind him, he's running against them, and number two, i'm not sure he needs all of them. i think they're a good foil for him, and i think you're going to see these interparty fights happening from now to november. lou: can you imagine, morgan, it's october, and donald trump is running behind hillary clinton. that's the choice before the american people, either the disrupter, the man who is offering solutions talking straightforwardly and clearly or a third term of barack obama and the person of hillary clinton who has nothing to her credit, and everything, it seems, in scandal form against her. >> well, what you just said about running against the
11:28 pm
elites is profound. we're not only seeing that in the u.s., we're seeing it in the u.k. with the brexit vote, leaving the european unit has pulled wildly ahead, and you see how popular boris johnson is in the u.s. failed immigration policies and failed economic policies, and we shouldn't blame the voter whenever the system is upended. lou: that's the last thing you will find happening here. i love the voters and want the voters to have a voice that's heard. the choice, clinton and trump. can you imagine him being behind and losing to her with these choices before the american people? >> i can imagine. the clintons are very sophisticated at campaigning. she is an incredibly weak candidate, so i agree with what edsaid, it's going to be a tight race. the biggest thing going for him in my opinion is he projects strength, and we're coming off eight years where we've had an incredibly weak president. not only the voters but the
11:29 pm
world is crying out for a strong president. if he projects strength, he'll have a major advantage going into november. lou: matt, he sounds like the president right now. he's the one talk about the issues, he's talking about carrying the fight to the enemy. he is the man talking about the issues and providing prescriptions whether it be in terms of free trade and impact on our economy, whether it be joblessness or the radical islamist terrorists. >> i remember talking to k.t. mcfarland, on your show a bunch, at super pac that the election is going to be a security election, when it comes to national security and economic security, where are the jobs? where is economic growth coming from? if we're talking about those issues in november, trump is going to win. how can hillary clinton possibly stand up there and make anybody feel good about being strong when it comes to the threats overseas. she just can't do it. lou: i don't know, so far real
11:30 pm
clear politics found enough to give her a six-point advantage in their math. thanks for being with us. coming right back. much more, straight ahead. stay with us. donald trump says we could have defeated radical islamist terrorism by now it were not for president obama's passion for political correctness and his refusal to name the enemy. >> unless you're willing to discuss and talk about the real nature of the problem and the name. problem, you're never going to solve the problem. lou: joining me tonight, congressman ron desantis of florida. running fofor the senate seat marco rubio said he no longer wants. wait a minute, maybe he does. and next video shows a true american hero rising to the moment. we have the video next of this my business was built with passion... but i keep it growing by making every dollar count. that's why i have the spark cash card from capital one.

11:35 pm
important, that we now go down the right path, we're going down a wrong path and our country is in serious trouble. lou: joining us tonight, congressman ron desantis, a member of the house foreign affairs committee, as well as the judiciary and oversight committees and running for marco rubio's senate seat if rubio decides to quit the senate. congressman, it's great to have you with us. good to see you again. let's start with this republican party that seems hell-bent on attacking its nominee, and what you make of it? >> well, i think it's time to unite around policies that can represent a contrast to this administration rather than fight among ourselves. we've seen a president who he gets more animated at going after republicans than he does going after radical islamic terrorists. lou: i've got to be honest with you, you said republicans, i've
11:36 pm
only seen him get that animated with one republican, that's donald trump. i had no idea the man was capable of it. >> it was bracing, in florida, it was such a terrible tragedy, vicious terrorist attack, and i'm angry we have militants like that in our country. the president seemed to have most of his anger directed at republican running for president. the political correctness has been there from the beginning. nidal hasan at shot up soldiers. allahu akbar, they said it was workplace violence, not terrorism. the victims' families weren't entitled to the benefits they should have had. the people injured didn't get a purple heart. this is a constant theme, and i think it's part of the reason why he's not successful at dealing with the threat. lou: not successful is generous. in my opinion, you're looking
11:37 pm
at a president who is going out of office in 218 days who has left a wake of disaster in foreign policy. this is a superpower. you would think we're a third rate banana republic by the rate which we have engaged russia, china and, of course, the islamic state and radical islamist terrorism. it's mind-boggling and to have members of the national liberal media going after your party's nominee. where do we go from here? doesn't get much worse, and, yes, paul ryan, your speaker, what is he thinking? >> all i can tell you is we're really at an important influx in this nation's history. all of the enemies of the country -- russia, iran, islamic jihadist groups -- they're on the march. they've had a wonderful 7 1/2 years, and we've seen as groups like isis proliferate
11:38 pm
throughout the middle east. they radicalize people here, and we see the deaths as a result of it. lou: why in the world isn't paul ryan talking about those issues rather than attacking the presumptive nominee of the party? i mean this really looks shoddy. it is absolutely inflammatory for the millions of voters out there, and the millions of voters that the republican party will be counting on. i mean, i wouldn't blame republicans if they didn't tell paul ryan personally to go to hell because of the way he's behaved. he and his former running mate mitt romney rejected by the american people four years ago. ryan is talking about his agenda, not trumps. he's talking about his values, not those of the party and the nominee. >> well, i think the proof will be in the putting. because we need to be advancing policies that are resonating with the american people. lou: that is donald trump. that's the reason you got five
11:39 pm
million more votes in the primaries than -- four million now than the democrats. it's the reason he's the biggest vote-getter in republican party history! >> and so one of the things i've been saying is let's look at threats that we face and not play small ball with the bills that don't resonate. let's finally designate the muslim brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization. the president cannot release detainees from gitmo to the foreign countries, the administration has admitted we've had six american soldiers killed by released gitmo detainees. you can talk about an agenda but the agenda's got to be one that resonates outside washington, and i think part of the problem with the party, and the reason why someone like donald trump has done well is a lot of the things we're doing inside washington hasn't had the resonance with rank-and-file voters outside the beltway. lou: the reason it doesn't resonate is millions are facing wages have been paid wages that
11:40 pm
haven't changed in terms of current buying power for more than a decade. are told that corporate america can do, and the chamber of commerce and the business roundtable can do whatever the hell they want irrespective of consequences to our working men and women and families and the middle class. >> devastating, absolutely. what happens is as their wages stagnate, cronyism in washington ends up making everything that you have to do subsist more expensive. energy, gas, groceries, you name it. and people are hurting out there. no doubt about it. lou: and paul ryan, bless his heart, one of his biggest cronies seemed to be none other than mr. barack obama. congressman, it's always good talking with you, come back soon. wish you the best. >> thank you. lou: ron desantis. the heroism of one student saving the lives of many. newly released video shows john meese who risked his life to stop the gunman in the deadly seattle pacific university

11:46 pm
radical islam, radical islamist terrorism. i can't believe that we're having this discussion, for me, it was resolved 14 years ago, and the term that is used throughout europe, the middle east itself is radical islamist but not in president obama's world. what does it mean to you? >> first of all, president obama, he romanticizes this based on naive childhood experiences in indonesia where islam is most benign. he was a kid, he doesn't know what it was all about. second, he's got the psychological work, he can never admit he is wrong about anything and reverse gear. and on top of that, absolute hard left idea log, you have the obsession with politically correct language. what he said yesterday, lou, was flat wrong.
11:47 pm
he's basically saying words don't matter but matter if we use the wrong words. the words radical islam, jihad, islamist, extremism, they all matter legally, they certainly matter to our military, but this is a president whose social engineering agenda is so broad and widespread, it includes refugee issues certainly, he has managed to censor even what we can teach at the fbi academy, at military schools and academies. basically, we can no longer have a debate or a serious teaching about jihad or debate about islam. it's orwell, double speak, 1984. lou: what else i is it? it's run for 15 years and the military of the world's only superpower has not been able to bring to conclusion engagement with radical islamists in the middle east or point in fact as most recently as this past

been necessary, and by the way. the idea that we can't say islamist extremism or islamist fanaticism or islamist terror because we might offend muslims. >> you think we won't offend them if we kill them. >> i would be glad to. lou: let me ask you quickly, do you believe that donald trump is the right fellow for the job, or do you believe a continuation, hillary clinton represents that. is it time for a change of direction? >> it is time for a change of direction. hillary is not the answer. i have strong reservations about mr. trump at this point. willing to be persuaded, but lou, for me there's nothing more important than integrity and true patriotism. i'm not feeling it. lou: all right, we appreciate your candor as always. good to have you with us,

few conspiracy ideas. >> americans, we don't need conspiracy theories and pathological self congratulations. the great story for anybody willing to find it and write about it and explain it is the vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president. lou: joining us political reporter for the daily caller kerry pickett and radio talkshow host on new york's wwor marks among. let's start with radical islamist. who won the debate? >> you know it's interesting yet hillary clinton talking about the conspiracy theories. go back to the oklahoma city bombing who was the clinton administration trying to blame, right-wing conservative radio and of course i was simply not the case. even going to what the current administration tried to do are

actually did do back in 2011 they ended up going into the fbi training manuals and started to purge words like radical islam and jihad and so on and so fourth to the point where the fbi agents ended up having their hands tied as far as doing an investigation. lou: who wasn't pushing the idea that there was an amateur video responsible for the attacks on our consulate in benghazi and the death of four americans? the same folks. >> that lou is going to get tough is to get towards november. she can't use a 3:00 a.m. phonecall because she had a 3:00 a.m. own call and slept right through the she can't use anything on trump it comes to terrorism or when you get into who really created isis the vacuum that was left in iraq she will have to take some responsibility for that. i know everybody is on trump right now, republicans, democrats, the media.
11:57 pm
lou: they will be on them all the way until november 8. they will overplay to the point where backfires on them. lou: and trump right now to his credit is going straight at his opponent in the democratic response of nominee with nominee with hillary clinton saying she needs to return the money that the saudi's donated to the clinton foundation straightforwardly. what do you think? >> it's an interesting tack right now but trump is putting forth because rightt now there s the idea that 9/11 was the whole story still hasn't been completed yet simply because the saudis may have had more of a hand in it than we then we actually know. we have 11 pages that people still want to know about an the obama administration has been slow walking that effort to bring that information out right now. lou: slow walking is very kind and generous.
11:58 pm
we don't want to get the twain the clintons but bill clinton said he would necessarily shut down the foundation even if she were elected he would still be collecting money. can you imagine the money they would bring in if she is president? lou: i have to tell you the clintons are quite something no matter what else you may say. they are quite something. the president has been accused of being utterly graceless in the wake of the attacks in orlando and the grievous loss of life. 53 people wounded in that. it took them three days to call rick scott, the governor of florida. he talked to a lot, the prime minister of france and the day after the attacks in which they killed policeman and his wife and plated on facebook. what is going on with this president?
11:59 pm
he seems to be out of phase. >> it sure seems like that and if you think about it is also an administration that doesn't want to tell governors that this is specifically cited high bobby jindal in louisiana where syrian refugees are coming into states and they want to keep a lot of these governors in the dark so it doesn't surprise me that rick scott was kept in the dark and not contacted. lou: and jeff sessions talked at the white house considered sending refugees to alabama because of obsessions, political retribution. i think there's a login that as we wrap up here. >> it's unbelievable. when donald trump says we need a vetting system won the james clapper will sign off on, that's

the most commonsense thing i've ever heard. how that got to be controversial i will never understand. lou: therere those folks who are those folks. mark simone thanks so much and mary fickett good to have you with us. that's it for us ton thank you for being with us. governor mike huckabee with me tomorrow. join us. good night from new york. kennedy: thank you and thank lou always. i continue to watch and marvel at the bad reaction to terrorist attacks in orlando here the president's defensive apologist and angry speech doesn't sit well with me. what could have been a glorious moment took on the nerves of jittery americans and brought the whole country together a context perspective and soothing. instead an indignant lecture that needlessly politicize tragedy. >> we now have proposals from the presumptive republican nominee for president of the united states to bar all muslims
