lou: thanks for being here. we enthusiastic for being with us. "the weekly standard" fred show one dvr. a lot of you toggle back and forth. here is lou. lou: good evening everybody i am lou dobbs. shocking testimony today on capitol hill. cia director john brennan not only contradicting president obama's claims of momentum in the battle against the islamic state, he also confirmed donald trump's warnings about the radical islam's terrorist threat. listen to brennan say the islamic state remains as dangerous as ever despite repeated assurances to the contrary from mr. obama. >> unfortunately despite all of our progress against isil on the

bit of an earthquake today with john brennan the head of the cia validating the principle challenger to this president and his approach while contradicting the president himself on the issue of the islamic state. kaytee? >> john brennan is someone who doesn't like to contradict the president president of fact that he's doing it means that he is the. people i talked to in the intelligence community today and former officials in the intelligence community they know there is stuff in the pipeline and they want to get out in front of it. so at a minimum they don't get lame for it. lou mark, your thought? >> it's really refreshing to have the cia director, the fbi director and the folks in the intelligence community tell the truth when the political spinmeisters in the white house have been reassuring us for years that al qaeda is on the

runway making great progress against isis and now we are hearing the truth from the real professionals and the truth is rather harrowing. lou: is also a major, major backslash against both the republican senate and the republican house who are responsible for the oversight of intelligence and the war on radical islamists terrorism because they have not been in the least aggressive in contravening the president strategies and stratagems in the war against terror. k.t.? >> yeah everybody knows that this is getting worse and not better and yet the president continues to say we are at doing just fine. the argument that somehow we are succeeding and because they are attacking us it doesn't make any common sense. the conventional wisdom both republicans and democrats coming out the white house is just plain wrong and the american people are seeing it tragically play out before our very eyes.
11:06 pm
lou: i want to share with all of our viewers what happened today. first listening if you will to president obama on the islamic state and its threat and then followed by john brennan today as he testified. if we could listen to first the president. >> isil's ranks are shrinking as well. their morale is sinking. the flow of foreign fighters including from america to syria and iraq has plummeted. in fact our intelligence community insist that the ranks of isil fighters has been reduced to the lowest levels in more than two and a half years. >> unfortunately despite all of our progress against isil the battlefield and in the financial realm our efforts have not reduced the terrorism capability and global reach. [booing] in fact john brennan mark seems like he's saying despite the presence promised to quote

degrade and destroy the islamic state more than two years ago nothing of substance or meaningful advance has occurred as a result of that promise. in fact many would say just over that time span involves he has broken his promise. your thoughts? >> again this is the problem with the white house. it's deception, its dissembling and it's all about politics. we have been hearing from this white house now for years that they are confronting isis are confronting the islamic threat. they are confronting iran and the reality comes out for the evidence comes out for most professionals who have to deal with these issues day in and day out and that's just not the case. they just don't think the president is leveling with the american people and it baffles me why he is so obsessed with this legacy in the remaining months of this administration and not keeping americans safe. lou: and, with a huge libya

rationalization of the iraq war because democrats voted in support of president bush. it was not his initiative and his leadership there resulted in what followed. >> i think it's exactly right that people should take responsibility and both sides of the aisle for the iraq war. lou: only one of them is running for president. >> that like to see more come ability and responsibility. lou: you and i and i know sub two are going to finish this discussion in absolute agreement. it's good to have you with us in sub. we are coming right back. much more straight ahead, stay with us. >> donald trump is winning across american turning doubters into believers. now he's calling on g.o.p. alerts to either get on the trump train or get out of the way. >> he has to have a republican either stick together. let me just do it by myself i

11:19 pm
going to be a deal where donald trump gets a couple of his ideas on the agenda namely paul ryan. >> i think for the party, reince priebus wants to win at this point. think he has had experience going through this primary process. he would like to try to win this time absolutely. and i think paul ryan is just a little bit confused. he was on o'rielly last night in seriously he wasn't making a ton of sense from my vantage point. may you have got trump coming out today to say that he would meet with the nra talk about no ground where there's bipartisan interest at lease and that's how you do it. you have -- you start from the place you have overlap in the nay outward. lou: trump is talking about doing something that barack obama has refused to do for more than seven and a half years chris and people who criticized obama have suddenly decided they

will go after trump for doing what they recommended obama do. >> the reality is the nra is in the right place on this. chris cox put out a statement by the nra and echinus nailed every important point. obviously we don't want terrorists to be able to walk into a store and get guns that we have 1.1 million people on the terrorist watch list. the obama administration put 450,000 people on the terrorism watch list in 2013. now this doesn't make any sense. if we have 1.1 million -- lou: i think you are exactly right. we can't trust this administration in any quarter in any way on any issue on any acts that it takes. they are entirely and totally ideological and not interested in governance. they are interested in advancing their agenda.
11:21 pm
>> if we have 1.1 million terrorists wandered around the country then we have a problem that is bigger than the watchlist and buying guns. lou: if that's the case the government should start just her bidding guns. >> but lou banning 10 or 20 guns to fight terrorism is insane or to fight crime for that matter. lou: it's just a deflection and a distraction. >> that would be like banning the import of white -- it's just irrational. lou: washington has that particular word locked down right now. chris plante and eboni williams thank you both for being with us. are sure to vote in our poll. the question is can trump vanquish the corrupt clinton says he did to the establishment g.o.p. bosses and left-wing media in the one year since he entered the race?

>> isil has isil has a large cadre of western fighters who can serve as operatives for attacks in the west. the group is probably exploring a variety of means infiltrating operatives into the west including in refugee flows, smuggling routes illegitimate methods of travel. lou: brendan's warnings follow a troubling new report about just how vulnerable this country is. the government accountability office reported on the visa waiver program finding 38 countries participating in the country, more than one third refused to share critical information about terrorist identities or criminal history despite the program's requirement that they do so. more than a third of those countries are not giving our authorities information deemed essential for national security. just last fall the house homeland security committee noted that among the top 10 countries of origin for islamic state foreign fighters three of those countries are in the visa waiver program.

the g.o.p. elites and liberal mainstream media are pounding donald trump, not the president, attacking trump in many instances simply because he is demanding that this country protect its citizens, strengthen our border security and in the visa waiver program and to place a temporary ban on immigration from countries with a history of terrorism against the united states. that is terrible, isn't it? i can see why he should be criticized. when you're a straight he entered the campaign for presidential nomination he is not only defeating by large margins his political opponents 16 of them in the primaries but he set the agenda for the debate between republicans and democrats across the nation and certainly between hillary clinton and has softened the race for the white house. in the past year he is purpy has proved he has the intelligence and talent to recognize this country's enemies, its issues and its challenges and the
