7:00 pm
particularly when you have homegrown tear roar. >> i would launch a shock and awe on their commands and control centers, the supply lines, and send the grounds troops in and ends it. charles: thanks for watching. have a happy 4th of july. david: good evening, i'm david asman in for lou dobbs tonight. attorney general loretta lynch today admitting her airport meeting with former president bill clinton has quote cast a shadow over the f.b.i.'s investigation of hillary clinton's email scandal. speaking to the aspen ideas festival she conceded the meet was bad optics. >> my meeting raises questions and concerns. so believe me i completely get that question. but it we willy was a social meeting. president clinton does not have a bearing on how this matter will be reviewed, resolved and
7:01 pm
accepted by me. david: but the attorney general said she'll not officially recuse herself. she says she'll accept whatever recommendations the career prosecutors and the f.b.i. director make the case. donald trump is not buying loretta lynch's explanation. he said it's highly unlikely a social meeting would have lasted a half-hour. he was talking about golf and grand children. i love my grand children so much. i love, love, love that one. and look at the beautiful. i love these kids. after that what are you going to say? david: i'll be taking all that up tonight with judge alex ferrer. all so "the weekly standard"'s fred barnes. bernie sanders still refusing to
7:02 pm
endorse hillary clinton. he says he's still trying to come to agreement with hillary clinton on certain issues and quote we are not there yet. the southern general says she understands why her meeting with bill clinton would raise eyebrows. but lynch insists the case is being handled by career agents and investigators who know to follow the facts. catherine herridge has our report. reporter: based on her comments at the aspen ideas forum the attorney general will not bring charge without the recommendation of criminal prosecutors and the f.b.i. she said it was always her plan, but decided to go public after the backlash over her meeting with bill clinton.
7:03 pm
she said it was a chance meet where they talked about grand children and golf. it has created an outcry because bill clinton is a potential witness in the he f.b.i. probe. fox reported the investigation has moved beyond hillary clinton's email practices to public corruption involving the clinton foundation. the investigation dates back to 2015 under attorney general eric holder. much earlier than previously reported. >> it many the same team acting independently. reporter: the arizona report more uncovered the meeting told bill o'reilly that the former president seems to orchestrate the meeting. the f.b.i. there on the tarmac instructing everybody around, no photos, no pictures, no cell phones. >> do you regret not telling the former president of the united states to leave the premises?
7:04 pm
>> how does it impact the work that i do and the department of justice does. i certainly wouldn't do it again? reporter: with president obama's first campaign events with the former secretary of state days away, the white house distances itself. the f.b.i. director blew past reporters' questions. >> what is your response? reporter: a well-placed f.b.i. source said agents are livid about the phoenix meeting and what appears to be more political tints force in the investigation. >> what didn't eric holder tell you about this job? what is the one thing you wish he had told you? >> where the lock on the plane door was? reporter: . there is real anger and
7:05 pm
frustration in f.b.i. agents who lost faith in the justice department and the white house for exerting political pressure. david: catherine herridge, thank you very much. lynch's meeting is a political gift of sorts for donald trump. he tweeted, take a look at what happened with bill clinton. the system is totally rigged. does anyone really believe that meeting was just a coincidence? reporter: republican presidential candidate donald trump slammed bill clinton today for his private meeting with attorney general loretta lynch on her private jet. >> i think he really opened it up. he opened up a ban dora's box and it shows what's going on, and it shows what's happening with the laws. reporter: hours after lynch says she expects to accept the f.b.i.'s recommendation on
7:06 pm
whether to charge clinton, she took it on evidence that the fix is in. >> mr. bill clinton goes into an airplane. it happened to be just a coincidence. heust ppen to at e aiort thitime wh i fst hrd t sto i said you are kidding, i don't believe it. i thought somebody was joking. but it's not a joke. it's a very serious thing. to have a thing like that happen, it's so sad. hillary is so guilty. she is so guilty. reporter: trump tweeted, bill's meeting was probably initiated and demanded by hillary. the optics of hillary clint's trump's allegation. she'll be joined by the attorney general's bosses, president obama and vice president biden. trump's remarks were to the conservative summit in colorado. one of three key swing states
7:07 pm
that might decide the election. trump has been pounding mexico on trade and illegal immigration. yesterday as a plane flew overhead he suggested mexico was beginning its counter offensive. >> that could be a mexican plane up there getting ready to attack. reporter: trump has begun final meetings with potential vice president at picks. with the gop convention just 1 days off. team trump is working to build the hype not just about the convention, but also about his looming running-mate decision. at the same time hillary clinton will be going into trump territory to trash him for amongoer things, declaring prups at the taj mahal casino.
7:08 pm
david: joining me, judge alex ferrer. with regard to loretta lynch, did she leave any wiggle room for her to overrule the f.b.i. if they recommend an indictment? >> she always has wiggle room. she can say she is going to follow their recommendation. but if she decides she doesn't want to, there is nothing you can do about it. the law doesn't require her to follow her statement today that she'll go along with the indictment. there are always ways to mince words and i said i'm most likely to follower in all likelihood i will follow. whatever words she choose. but that's neither here nor there. this situation was created by her and mr. clinton, former president clinton. she certainly could have told him this is improper because we have that investigation going on.
7:09 pm
as soon as it's over, we can have them talk about grandchildren and golf. that would have taken 20 seconds. >> they could have don't with f.b.i. agents, or somebody. or just perhaps on the tarmac. why do you think two seasoned lawyers like bill clinton and loretta lynch could have done something like this. how could it be an oversight. >> it's not an oversight. in addition to being the former president of the united states, bill clinton was the attorney general of arkansas. a first year lawyer in a state attorneys office knows -- imagine if i as a judge sat down and had a nice social chat with the husband of a woman who was being criminally prosecuted in frntsd of me. that would be hillary clinton has come before her to determine whether she should be prosecuted. if i acquitted the woman in front of me everybody would say the fiction is in. loretta lynch knows this. bill clinton knows this.
7:10 pm
i guess they don't care. or maybe they thought nobody would know. david: there perhaps is a sense of desperation in the clinton camp with what happened last week and this week with huma abedin giving evidence, specific evidence that contradicts what hillary clinton has said under oath, specifically that she had emails she presented to investigators that contradict hillary's sworn statement that she gave up all of her emails. >> you may be right. but that may explain why bill clinton hot footed it over to her plane. it doesn't explain why she allowed him to do it. if nixon had hot footed it over to her plane does thot that mean he would have gone the under the gainingway and had a conversation?
7:11 pm
absolutely not. maybe that's what ultimately has to happen. david: let me ask about the huma abedin emails that make that after date hillary signed back in august false. is this evidence of obstruction of justice? clearly upa had emails that -- huma had emails that dealt with department of state that were to the turned over. >> that is one piece of evidence. but other pieces of evidence have come forward that she failed to turn over. her explanation turns in the wind according to what is revealed. i never had anything that is canadian if i deck on my server. i never had anything marked confidential on my server. it was not confidential at the time, and all these have been disproven along the way.
7:12 pm
she'll continue to spin it and the people who continue to follow her will continue to follow her. as long as most of the media does not ask questions they would ask if it had been donald trump giving these explanations, then there is not going to be much to it. so i am not sure many people believe this is a clean investigation at this point. sadly. >> we'll keep asking the questions. judge alex. thank you very much for being here. rear coming right back with lot back. stay with us. attorney general loretta lynch can't escape the political firestorm following her private meeting with former president bill clinton. >> the most important they can for me as the attorney general is the integrity of the department of justice. david: but what integrity did she and her department have left? fred barnes joins us next. this skydiving demonstration is about to take a turn for the

david: donald trump set to meet with house and senate republicans next thursday, less
7:17 pm
than two weeks before the republican convention. the presumptive nominee said he will not allow former rivals to speak unless they endorse him, and he took a shot at those rivals today. >> some of them can't understand the importance of a victory for the republicans. they have 211 years versus 11 months. >> i think we are getting tired of t experience because the experience wasn't working. david: joining me now, from "the weekly standard," fred barnes. what happens if hillary is indicted? >> one of two things. one is she is defeated by donald trump or two she drops the out and joe biden becomes the nominee and that would help democrats. david: what happens to bernie sanders who has been holding off endorsing hillary if it goes to joe biden?
7:18 pm
are these supporters going to go the biden route or might they stay home? >> it would sab divided party. in a speech monday by donald trump, he was appealing on the trade issue to bernie supporters. the polls don't show getting many of them. but a stronger appeal and he might get some. in hillary is indicted, it's a mess. there is no question about that. otherwise why else would bill clinton be hanging around in an airport in phoenix waiting for the attorney general to arrive so he can talk to her. david: fred, you know the clintons, you covered them very closely. what do you think is in bill's head? >> the case. why else would he do that? david: i understand that. but do you think he thought nobody would be watching? he clearly knows there were people at that airport who knew
7:19 pm
that a president was going to arrive. that's big news. >> he was leaving. bill clinton was leaving. who knows we had been doing in phoenix. and i think he thought, hey, people aren't going to see me. when the reporter -- the tv reporter who broke the story said he wasn't out there, he had gotten tips by telephone from a couple people that turned out to be true. clinton thought he could get away with it. david: the reporter was a real hero. but do you think if bill clinton had a tip from somebody in justice that led him to take this desperate evident? >> i think it was seizing an opportunity that he discovered when he got to the airport. his security people are in touch with the other security people. so he would have known she was coming in and he decided to wait around. i suspect it was a spur of the moment decision.
7:20 pm
it's not just hillary's case. the clinton foundation according to reports is being investigated as well, and that means bill clinton. david: donald trump is not ingratiating himself with his old republican allies. usually the enemies in the primary season get united and come to the convention. >> usually what happens is they not only get together, but they endorse the winner. they haven't in this case, at least a number of them. i'm sympathetic to trump on this. why should he allow them to get up and say stuff when they haven't endorsed the nominee. mitch mcconnell can speak and paul ryan. and all those athletes and movie stars and so on. i remember him talking about how he said he had never been more
7:21 pm
bored in his life when he was watching the 2012 romney republican convention. the fact is he used the term show biz. he wants to bring some show biz to cleveland. david: i don't think since jfk has there been a more show biz personality trying to get into the white house. if he does with his wife and the extended family will be a redux of what we saw with kennedy. >> that's a good analogy. ronald reagan had hollywood stars. but they were all in their 70s and 80s. dave were fred barnes, good to see you. happy 4th of july. we are breaking news on the terrorist attack in bangladesh. two police officers were killed in a gun battle. 15 other people were injured.

7:31 pm
i think bill clinton did this on his own for whatever motives he has. he acted upon it. if hillary knew, others knew, too. for her benefit she better not have known about it. david: this has got to help donald trump with the independents. he's still got a solid lead with the independents. don't you think this helps with that group? >> it does in every single way. when it comes to people who want to change because the system is rigged, this is what their cans and even what the british have responded to of people all around the world are tired of this kinds of dynamic. but of course it's going to continue to happen. this our reality. sow it does feed into -- it happens to be in trump, it could have been mr. cruz. in this case we want a change and mr. trump clear live is going to give it to us.

david: lou dobbs recently sat down with donald trump for a wide range of issues. lou: your focus on hillary clinton. you are the first republican presumptive nominee to focus on the middle class, men and women and their families and international trade. the first. and you have a unique appeal to independents as well as to the republicans that you brought into the primary process.
7:37 pm
where do you take that message on illegal immigration. job creation and restoring prosperity. >> one of the most incredible statistics for 18 years middle class people haven't had a real wage increase. and in some cases now they are working two jobs and making less money than they used to make. a lot of part timers because of obamacare which is a disaster. there is something that we hit. we hit a chord. people are tired of incompetence. they are tired of being ripped off. in some cases it's not incompetence. it's the politicians wanting to take care of their friends or run corporations. nobody can be that stupid to do what they are doing. we have the worst trade deals made by any country ever. we are losing our jobs, we are losing our money, we are losing everything.
