it is a better deal than it might look like on the surface. for instance, verizon will absorb nearly a billion dollars in liabilities for aol, it owes employees, stock options, likes like that. it is more like a $5.8 billion deal. david: let's not get so into the weeds because, scott martin, of all the assets yahoo! has, the biggest asset they have one billion users that many people, must be a way to capitalize on that, right? >> hopefully. i mean i think that's what the deal is based on, david. i kind of disagree a little bit with jack to me this is the wrong platform if you're verizon you want to buy into. yes, there is probably some value here, that's what they're going after but i thought you were going to say something else. to me the biggest asset on yahoo!'s books is the baba stake. david: that is just cash. i mean when you have people, when you have loyal people, who

4:08 pm
that is the other thing too. i would rather see, contrary to jack's point, earnings and high p-e than no earnings. that is what i think is dangerous if you're trying to compete with amazon. there is no competitor. i will admit it right here on national tv, i buy pens, pencils and gum on amazon. so do a lot of other people. you can't stop them. we own it here. melissa: jack, which other tech stocks out this week caught your interest? >> apple is always interesting. talk about the other spectrum, other end of the spectrum in terms of valuation, where is apple now, nine times earnings? this has been a lousy part of the cycle for them. i think bullish case would be this is like 2012, 2013 they were down and iphone 7 get as good pickup. frankly i wait for the 8 which will have innovative screen. i don't see a, a big catalyst for apple right now but they're slowly working on a few initiatives on the car business apparently. they have a new head of that.

4:15 pm
but beyond that, most of the democratic base, establishment, activists have rallied behind hillary clinton and tim kaine. and i think that is even more the case now with debbie wasserman schultz stepping down. theres, she wasn't finding a lot of friends anywhere in the party, not amongst bernie supporters, not amongst clinton supporters. in sort of ironic twist, her final act, her stepping down may end up being one of the greatest acts of party unification she could have done. melissa: although she did so very unwillingly. up until two hours ago she was insisting she was going to gavel in. i wonder about wisdom and optics the second she steps down she becomes honorary chair of hillary clinton's campaign. i mean that is sticking it to those bernie people. i mean to put her right in as hon nary chair, seems incredibly insulting after emails came out. do you think that is smart move.

they were working in cahoots with the russians and with donald trump on this in any way, shape or form but where did they get it? >> i would shut wikileaks down as matter of national security. wouldn't surprise me if they didn't get something from a foreign intelligence service but it is also the case you don't have to be the fsb to get into somebody's email accounts. david: fsb is the russian intelligence agency. >> we have "gucifer" who hacked into sidney blumenthal. entirely wikileaks has people who got into it on their own. david: to the substance of these emails. hillary clinton was on "60 minutes" last night and never heard anything about the subject of these emails. let's play the tape. >> i don't know anything about these emails. i haven't follow i had it but i'm very proud of the campaign that i ran and i'm very proud of the campaign that senator sanders ran. david: she hasn't seen any of these emails, don't know anything about it. do you believe her. >> no, i don't. it is impossible to believe she
4:48 pm
wasn't aware of activity, interactions between her campaign and the dnc. unfortunately perjury on "60 minutes" is not indictable offense either. david: john bolton, good to he see you. by the way, melissa, we should mention that the tape we just played of hillary talking about the emails which one could argue was most important thing that she said last night to 60 minutes was left on the cutting room floor. melissa: it is amazing. here is the question of the day everyone wanted answer to, and you can't get anywhere near hillary clinton to ask her a question. she is hermetically sealed in bubble everywhere she goes. "60 minutes" had her for an interview. they asked her the question every journalist in the world wanted to know. what did you know about these emails from debbie wasserman schultz. no matter what her answer was, it was newsworthy but "60 minutes" inex-flickably decided to bury it on website rather than part of the show when they had the only answer to
4:49 pm
the hottest question, the best piece of news they buried it. have to wonder why? david: by the way, this happened on same day we got word that a "politico" reporter before finishing a story by checking it, running it through his editor, ran it through the dnc, sent it directly, "politico" is very mainstream. "politico" is not left-wing. this is the mainstream press running something through the dnc before running it through their own editor. mainstream media has a lot to answer for here. melissa: yeah, no. it is true. dnc is issuing an apology to bernie sanders after emails were made public showing the dnc tipping the scales for rival hillary clinton. this statement was issued by donna brazile, incoming interim chair. she says, quote, on behalf of everyone at the dnc, we want to offer a deep and sincere apology to senator sanders, his supporters and entire democratic party for inexcusable remarks
4:50 pm
made over email. the statement goes on to say, the dnc does not and will not tolerate disrespectful language exhibited towards our candidates. individual staffers have also rightfully apologized for their comments and the dnc is taking appropriate action to insure that it never happens again. wonder if they feel better, david? david: we'll see. meanwhile, something bordering on chaos in philadelphia. bernie sanders preparing to take the stage at dnc but his supporters remain divided over hillary clinton. can the vermont senator turn it all around?

it's the little things in life that make me smile. spending the day with my niece. i don't use super poligrip for hold, because my dentures fit well. before those little pieces would get in between my dentures and my gum and it was uncomfortable. even well fitting dentures let in food particles. just a few dabs of super poligrip free is clinically proven to seal out more food particles so you're more comfortable and confident while you eat. so it's not about keeping my dentures in, it's about keeping the food particles out. try super poligrip free.

dnc. we're hearing bernie sanders supporters might be making things interesting tonight. ben winkler, kelly rydell is back with us. he reached out to the clinton camp. he is worried his people are furious. what do you make of that? >> you saw donna brazile's comments about it. also, if bernie sanders supporters have a demonstration for him when he goes on to speak tonight that is totally appropriate. nothing wrong with that at all. he ran a great campaign and he is a great democrat and he is supporting hillary clinton. melissa: yeah. but that is not what they said. you wouldn't reach out to clinton to say, by the way, i'm nervous that my people are going to make a fuss when i come out. what steve was talking about there was a nice thing, ben. you read from this something more ominous? >> no question they are fired up. my prediction, electricity will strike twice on podium stage tonight, bernie sanders and
4:55 pm
elizabeth warren will speak. they will bring entire hall to their feet. when they end with endorsement for hillary clinton and united against donald trump, they will be shouting in support. melissa: kelly, what do you think of that? they are two very dynamic speakers with very passionate followers. could be a reason they put them on with as much distance between them and hillary clinton for comparison sake? >> i would caution earlier today, you had bernie sanders speaking in front of his own delegates and they booed at the him when he told them to go out and endorse and vote for hillary clinton. so i think, that is a risky strategy to think he will come out and do a full-throated endorsement of hillary clinton on grand stage especially after the warning they have given the clinton campaign. what you will see him hit donald trump. go after donald trump which is ironic, last week the republicans got criticized for making their convention too much as an indictment against hillary hillary clinton. we're going to see same thing happen this week. with the democrats.
4:56 pm
melissa: yeah, absolutely. guys, thank you so much. we appreciate your time. david, certainly will be interesting, isn't it? david: the action already begun. the gavel has been hit by the mayor of baltimore, instead of debbie wasserman schultz. when we come back we'll go live to the floor of the dnc. stay with us. >>
