that's our show tonight. john: i'm in shock still. i believed the polls, the experts, mainly the betting. i was resigned to suffering through four more miserable years or 8 more years of this. >> raise the federal minimum wage. make sure women get equal pay. john: the democratic left is so smug and entitled. but i assumed we would have to suffer under their rule for many more years, and yet now we don't. we have a fresh new voice. so now what? what will trump do? sometimes he scares me. he said some horrible things. but he's also said good things. who tbheets he really believes or would do. let's talk to a republican democrat and libertarian.

charlie kirk is the republican, part of a wave of young people supporting trump. jessica tarlov is a democrat and hillary supporter. are you miserable? >> i like being with you all but electorally i'm miserable. david boaz warned me years ago, never fall in love with a politician. >> they will always days points you. they promise to cut spending and stop the war. this time i can't be disappointed by trump because i don't expect much. john: why do you back him? >> he wasn't my choice in the primary but i'm glad i backed him. i'm more libertarian than conservative. i thought the supreme court was a 40-year decision, not a 4-year decision. i believe:private property rights and states rights. the list donald trump put forward is more on the

constitutional libertarian time. john: we'll get to that later. you believe in property rights. i'm not so sure trump does. trump says things about war that hillary clinton and most republicans would never say. >> we are losing billions and billions of dollars. we cannot be the policemen of the world. john: this sounds libertarian. >> it's very new and something that didn't get enough attention. the republican party nominated and elected a cad who rejects global intervention. the reaganite, the knee owe con foreign policy. he said some crazy things too like let's go in there, torture them and take the oil. he talked about this theme of getting rid of global interventionism since 1987. >> this is part of what can we believe about him. i thought that was smart since he was trying to target -- when

you are reaching out to disaffected democrats, and a lot of people across the democratic party, there is recognition the iraq war was a mistake. when you have hillary clinton who voted for the war though she said she was sorry. and donald trump supported it on howard stern for 20 minutes. john: it wasn't 20 minutes. it was a quick response. >> i totally agree with you he said we could torture the families of terrorists which you can't commands the military to do. no doubt he would put knee so cons in his -- he would you put neocons in his cabinet. john: donald trump also promised big spending. >> we'll build the roads, bridges, tunnels, airports and the railways of tomorrow. john: who wants to take that? >> i think infrastructure has been a big thing, obviously point of his agenda.

john: we are broke. >> one of the big issues is talking about the national debt and the need to balance the budget. john: he talked about that? >> he said we have a debt completeley out of control and we have to balance the budget. he can't play dictator for a day. he has to work with paul ryan. john: he won't cut entitlements and spend more on the military. >> he said he will find fraud and abuse. john: they always say that. >> everyone here doubted donald trump including myself for a long time. we all said he wouldn't win the primary and said he wouldn't win the general. maybe he will surprise us and do what he said he will do. >> he wants to cut taxes, increase spending on the military and infrastructure and not touch entitlements. >> it's impossible. >> do you think he will sign a

budget if paul ryan puts slight reforms to entitlements? i would say yes. >> he told paul ryan when i'm president you are in big trouble, buddy. >> i think we want to advance the cause of freedom and liberty, cut taxes and go after bad regulations, we are more likely to do that with donald trump than hillary clinton. >> explain the difference between freedom and liberty. john: what scarce americans about trump is what he said about immigration. >> we have to build a wall. we have to. john: the terrorists don't come in from the mexican border. and a wall doesn't stop people. they go over, they get advisas and fly in. so, look -- >> he said he wants to increase border security and that's something a vast majority of americans believe in.

he changed his position where he said we won't ban muslims, we'll have a temporary restriction on individuals where isis is occupying the countries. i don't know exactly what he's going to propose in 70 days. but we do have problems on the southern border and hillary clinton 8 years ago said we need increased border security. >> so the premise is what can we expect. he said he's going to dedicate more resources and funding towards the southern border and that's a good thing. john: the immigration comments you would think would turn off latinos and minorities. you pointed out more blacks and hispanics voted for trump than voted for romney. >> an expert at lee recollection data said county level data on hispanics don't back up what the polls showed. >> the vote isn't done yet. they are still counting.

donald trump has -- he has done bert than i expected with the attitude he has taken from the start with minorities with criminals and rapists. the mexicans, the what do you have to lose strategy. he has stunned in he possible category. john: why didn't gary johnson stun? he didn't get the 5%. >> it's tough. he won three times as many votes as any libertarian presidential candidate has gotten. i think he may have raised $10 million. that's 1% of what hillary had and .5% of trump's free media. when the election appears to be close, people drift back to the candidate they dislike the least. he didn't get any kind of lead yeah. >> he got the what is aleppo media. >> that may have helped him by

raising his name i.d. by the many very tough. he got more percent and than any third party candidate since the billionaire celebrity ross perot. john: i hate trump's scream against trade. trade is voluntary exchange. globalization and free trade have been giant choices for good. a billion people are no longer poor because of trade. a billion people have lifted themselves out of poverty says the up n. and that's mainly due to trade. >> he's not my candidate. he's our president-elect trump. i'm a big free trade guy. it will be interesting to see. when president trump gets in office he will be presented with compelling data that free trade

has lifted more people out of after i domestically and internationally. how, it's impossible to argue that certain trade policies have devastated parts of america and not enough has been done to at least lift those individual, give them the attention they need, whether it's scranton pennsylvania to scranton pennsylvania. the second thing i'll say is donald trump went after these individual. if you look at the votes he got, the republicans have not won these types of voters in a long time and trade was an issue. >> that's why bernie had any legs in the democratic primary. bernie sanders went out there and hit economic issues solely which is why he struggled so much with minority voters. he said today i looked at what donald trump is proposing, if he's going to talk about trade, maybe this won't be so bad.

john: popular doesn't mean it's right. >> these guys are both 70 years old, trump and bernie. >> 70 years old and they haven't learned econ-101. now, it may be that his age will be able -- his aides will be able to tell him, every economist in the world agrees that trade makes the economy better, you are going to be held responsible for the state of the economy. maybe he will shape up. john: i hope so. on the stupid polls and media, how did we get the election results so wrong. on election day the "huffington post" said there was a 98% clinton would win. >> the consortium has a 99% clinton-win?

and to repeal a tax exemption for electric cars. david, is there finally some environmental wisdom? >> there probably is. people have been resistant to things if they thought it would cost them time or money. the plastic bag thing, i'm surprised a majority of people would want to give up plastic bags. but taxes people voted against except when it was a tax on other people. if you said you are going too tax the rich, it turns out you can get a majority of the rich to go for that. john: we told but the massachusetts proposal to give farm animals more space. supporters climbed into a cage and screamed nobody wants to live without space. >> if you have space. yes.

document which is what a lot of strict constitutionalists believe is extremely disturbing to me. it means women don't have the right to vote or the right to choose. but they can be rolled back. we talked about this before. just thinking about abortion. the idea that my rights in texas could be different than my rights in california. we are one nation under god, is fundamentally disturning. >> you were just praising the states rights to choose the right to die. but i'm a constitutionalist. i love the fact that donald trump won. we have the possibility toll shape the court for a generation. i think that's very profound and important. i think we need more justices like clarence thomas, people who respect the constitution. john: he does not seem to be a friend of the first amendment.
