i want to take a look at the market futures. they look stronger, you're looking at the dow jones industrial average, the s&p and dow coming in today at record highs, wednesday's close, rather. donald trump, the trump rally going strong. we've got market watcher jeff sica with us. the market is really about anticipation of future growth and of course, now a lot of or ? >> yeah, of course, the conversation about the dow 20,000 and 19,000, what we're dealing with right now, i am completely sold on the fact that if trump is able to execute on his plan, it will be very pro business, it will be pro economy, but here is the one thing that we have to realize is you have a stock market and you have an economy and the stock market very often runs well ahead of the economy. i think-- >> what happens on the day when the stock market was a harbinger for the economy. the stock market was telling where the economy would be six

months out and 12 months out. you're not buying it? >> i long for those days. right now we have a central bank that's artificially suppressed interest rates to keep borrowing costs low to keep stock companies buying their shares back and keep moving up. the problem with this, when you have these types of euphoric rallies and everybody is acting like moths to flames, running into the market. it breeds complacency and we're in a point of complacency. trump's policies are going to be long-term good for the economy, but they shouldn't be-- >> and speaking of euphoria. a lot of money out of bonds and this is smart and institutional money not necessarily individuals exuberant over donald trumpment are they going to find a home in stocks? >> they are, but here is what i

believe will happen. this is the goal all along to starve investors out of the bond market and into the stock market. it will continue to happen. the problem i have is a lot of bond investors are not accustomed to the volatility that you see in the stock market and trying to get dividends. eventually we'll have to deal with volatility and volatility is not always easy for the bond investors to deal with. >> gotcha. back to donald trump's cabinet picks. mitt romney one of donald trump's harshest critics during the election, and is now considered for secretary of state and not sitting well with with trump supporters and now word of a romney apology. we have word that some sort of apology has been given behind closed doors and perhaps as a

sphere. the problem with that is demotrated by this lack of a clear pick for the dnc head. >> and i want to ask you also, big news now, because former green party presidential candidate jill stein apparently has raised enough money to go after a recount, she wants michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin, 4.7 million dollars already raised. i mean, what exactly does she think she's getting out of this? or is she being used even perhaps by say a likes of a george soros or hillary clinton who may want the recount and doesn't want her name on it. >> i saw something interesting by mary chastain, and that donald trump wouldn't go forward with the e-mail scandal. and points out the thing that

the clinton crave the most is power and by for giving her, he would take away that spotlight and so this connects to jill stein in that i've seen a lot of discussion on-line about people suspecting what you just said, that this is a ploy by the clintons to get the recount done without having their name attached to it and i find it hard to believe that jill stein would be used in that way, but i think it's unfortunate because it's time to move on, we're in the transition and president-ect trump will be seated and inaugurated in january of 2017. >> don't you find some delicious irony, the big news story going into november 8th is donald trump is going to give the winner, hillary clinton a hard time? >>. >> all right. take another look at the dow jones industrial futures. we gained during the commercial break. we'll be up in record territory and the trump rally goes on. i want to take a look at gold. gold sort of drifting a little bit. couldn't hold at 1200. that's a key number, this time it did not hold. it's relatively flat at the open. making a rebound last week and russia saying probably they cut a deal and a lot of head fakes down this morning in the range between 44 and 50 right now. also, reports of scores of central americans surging north trying to cross the border into

>> all right, the opening bell is going to ring in 13 minutes. a lot of anticipation, a lot of excitement. i can tell you right now, this is usually an out-sized session. what i mean by that, if the volume is thin, whoever pushes, the bulls or bears, usually get their way. right now it's the bulls carrying the trump rally into the opening bell. first tick up 17 points, i suspect we could be up 50 very, very shortly. the beautiful thing all the major indices close the record highs on wednesday. it's not just the dow, it's the s&p 500 and check on that as well. up 2 1/2% looking great and the nasdaq has done well this year. nasdaq the home of the tech stocks, they're regaining equilibrium and the price of oil down again. a range between 44 and $50. i want to look at gold. a lot of folks calming --

camping out in gold may change their minds. i want to bring in lauren simonetti and burt, and we're near the all-time highs. jeff, i want to go to you first. i know you're not-- i know you're grappling with this because you like donald trump's economic policies, but just not sure about this market, right? there's a mismatch in your mind? >> to me, there's a clear d distinction between the stock market and the trump economic policies. i think that the policies are good for the economy, but the stock market, which has been fed-driven, has extended itself beyond reality at this point. so, i think the optimism, the problem with optimism it tends to breed complacency. what i see in the marketplace now is an unprecedented amount of complacency. i think we have to get realistic and know that these policies as good as they are are not quick fixes.

>> i will say one thinking, my own version of how i'm asking people to invest. i'm not looking at market optimism, i'm looking at mainstream optimism becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy, i think at that the american public buys into this and we'll see this economy really take off. >> i think you're right and i groo agree with jeff, i like the idea of trump's new policy. the issue where he doesn't get inaugurated until the 20th of january, what he could do between now and even say next summer, there's so much money that's really overextended themselves in the equity market, it's hard to get in on that party. yeah, we're going to go higher because we want to hit those new numbers, but at the end of the day, what's changed economically today? or tomorrow that wasn't the same four weeks ago? we're still in the same problem that we have and we're going to

need to see great changes. right now we're trading on faith. trading without seeing and we need to see the changes. charles: the retail that was up the best in ten years and consumers confidence revised d blews top off. and wages are starting to go up. best home sales since 2007 and ripples in the economy, i think, that tammy, donald trump can take. the enthusiasm has been missing, but believe have to believe. >> it's the same enthusiasm that drove the election, the people they said the economy was the number one issue they were dealing with. we're seeing young people to actually going to brick and mortar stores. there's a sense that what has happened before is bad and they're not quite sure how it's going to work, but the enthusiasm shifting from the election to the economy itself and they're willing to investigate in that because they hear things, whether it's

obamacare and the fines going away, a tax holiday or 15% bracket, but for young people, especially, they might not know, but they feel that it could be better and the feelings matter. charles: they called it morning in america. i'm come back to you. we'll throw this into the mix, black friday, retailers wait all year, statistically when they're profitable. and black friday, is it still rocking and rolling? >> it not rocking and rolling because it's become bifurcated between thanksgiving day black friday and with small business saturday, it's being stretched the whole week. interestingly, charles, for the stores like rei and costco closed on thanksgiving day, they'll do more business in fewer days than stores like target who are extending themselves, raising their costs, cutting their business and forgetting to merchandise christmas effectively. target only has christmas on

sale one day saturday and leading with dirt devil and hoover vacuum cleaners, what are they doing with major merchandising, this is hudson dayton-- >> they are coming from a lower base to your point. jeff sica, nordstrom's is up, macy's up, j.c. penney up 19% since donald trump won the election and extended there and a reflection that perhaps main street might be buying into this. >> and i think that main street should be optimistic. even when it comes to discretionary spending, the savings rates are still low. so if people are out there spending, i mean, i believe that $4.6% of people actually-- 4.6% of people shop on black friday, it's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. even if they are out there kicking tires, they don't have the discretionary income to

really be spending as they should. >> all right, guys, also, scott, go ahead. >> look, you know what? it kind of reminds me when the vcr's came out and i watched to see what happened with the movie theaters and they morphed into something different. i haven't seen them morph into something different. my target and macy's are the same as years ago, i think that black friday is a social event rather than a shopping event. charles: let's talk about shares of apple. that's one of the key names that reflects all parts of our society. the company offering, black friday deals today. remember, they skipped that last year, is this actually a bad indicator for apple? >> it could be because they promised this really great deals this year, but so far, people are disappointed. so you can get up to $150 as a gift card if you buy certain mac computers and start at $1300 for that particular brand. when it's rare that you offer a

promotion on black friday and tease it in a big way and come out with a gift card as much as $150 i think that people are disappointed and waiting for the next bill thing for the apple and clear some of the things like watches off the shelves. charles: apple got lucky with the samsung phones that became explosive devices, but are they in trouble? >> they're not in trouble. to lauren's point, but reaching unplanned obsolescence. the pipeline from the late steve jobs, they're going to go through their own cycle. >> the average black friday is 39%. if you do the math for apple it's maybe 10%. charles: maybe they think they're too strong to give away 39%. and nicole petallides has

details. nicole: there are reports that johnson & johnson is in talks with a swiss biotech company, and this is a biotech company viewed as an essential take over target because they have two lung medicines viewed as potential blockbusters over the next years. how far are they in the talks? neither company is acknowledging. johnson & johnson is up, and the other is soaring. there there is talk about one of the other drug makers, novartis or others, and johnson & johnson, at least one of the many dow stocks with an up arrow. charles: the big drug companies are in trouble and they've got aging pipelines and i think we'll see a lot of acquisitions. meanwhile, president-elect trump spent part of his

thanksgiving holiday trying to convince carrier to keep in the united states. a tweet, i'm, working hard even on thanksgiving trying to get carrier to stay in the u.s. making progress, we'll know soon. charles: he pledged to keep jobs in this country from not leaving this country. what do you make of that tweet? >> it's kind of like the-- it's going to take a lot longer than working on thanksgiving for a company sea change to move from one country to another. so, it remains to be seen, but depends how far carrier is down the road and if they can really reverse their plans. that's a really big deal, nothing that can be solved in a week, more like a three, four months ordeal. charles: here is the thing, carrier is a behemoth of a company. aerospace and prosecute whitney, otis elevator.

and the business is good for them and the margins 18%, not moving year over year. how do they recognize to the american public and their shareholders, the notion of keeping carrier here if it's going to hit their bottom line? >> i think there's one thing that has to be very stressed in this situation is that production costs in the u.s. are significantly higher. and i'm all for bringing jobs back to the u.s., but trump has got to make it-- he's got to make it profitable for them. he has got to lower corporate taxes in order for them to make a profitable. carrier is one particular company that really needs profitability in a desperate way so there could be some casualties. there could be some collateral damage from this and carrier could be one of them. charles: here is the thing, they've got aerospace, does government business and plat whitney.

i like the carrot not the stick. and told apple and maybe the same with carrier. >> and this is closing the plant at 2019 so there's time to scott's concern and layoffs ap they've said, yes, we're talking with president-elect trump and here is a difference, government usually operates like a turtle and we've got hare. >> this would be huge. want to take a look at the big board, dow jones industrials. >> an up 38 points. looking at yet another record, donald trump's tax cut plans, critics say it will run up the debt. our question is how long will those tax cuts take to get the economy going. we know about supply side. we want the timeline.

>> well, here, we've got a pattern, every time we've got a commercial we're up two or three points. by the end of the show we could be down, the dow is up 40 points. it's a lifetime high and the s&p 500 hitting a lifetime high

and the russell 2000 is up 18%, why? it's sort of a reflection of americana, small investors and small investors, and they enjoyed this. meantime. president-elect donald trump's economic plan calls for tax cuts and spending on infrastructure, the military and even inner city. david mcintosh is near. we understand supply side. revenue that doesn't come from high taxes will come as the velocity of money. as we spend more and it circulates, it will make up the difference and now we're talking perhaps a $10 billion infrastructure plan. rebuilding the military and special for inner cities. are we going to have a debt crisis? >> i think what trump has to make sure happens is not only the tax cuts, but the regulatory relief program goes through.

that does get you about 2% additional growth per year in the economy, that's a huge impact for federal revenue. it increases the amount of money the federal government comes in. but honestly, you're right, charles, at the same time he's got to be careful and not just open the flood gates on spending side. look for places where he can get more for the money spent and save some money and he's got his priorities for infrastructure and the military, fund those, increase the funding, but make some real cuts other places as well. charles: how does he make the cuts? we are going to have another showdown in washington d.c. over spending, a lot of promises were made. where do you cut? i mean, i understand you will-- every president's going line by line and a trillion dollars for the waste, fraud and abuse, can he find it really? >> i think one of the places he should look at are the additional weal fair programs

like food stamps and other areas that have ballooned in the last years of obama. you're not going to need them when trump creates these additional jobs and the economy booms so start making the cuts and save on those areas and eliminate the old sequester formula where any cut in a domestic program has to be offset with a cut in defense. trump should say that's a stupid deal. let's pay for the defense we need and look at cuts in other areas. >> one of the reasons the market rallies, the g.o.p. overwhelmingly won on november 8th not just donald trump. i think coming out the gate, it's going to be important, david. what do you want to see the first 100 days. what's most critical. what do we need to see to spark the economy and keep the stock market rally going? >> you've got to first do the tax cuts and use it on reconciliation is what they

call it, essentially, a 50 vote in the senate and 50% of the house. eliminate obamacare, it's a huge cost for businesses as they've seen their health care costs go up. on the executive side, the president on day one can eliminate the bad executive orders and has to tell his agencies, go and rewrite rules that are costing us more for electricity, costing more for finance and the banking economy, and costing us more for new drugs and health care. that takes time, that's probably a-- you know, a year, two-year process, but sending the signal to the market that that's what they're going to do will keep the rally going. charles: i think households will love that. we feel all of the onerous regulations. thank you. >> see you soon. >> and the dow jones industrials industrial, those are your 30 stocks, majority of them up 7, six, eight, actually are lower. donald trump again though

get out those credit cards, holiday shopping season officially underway. it's black friday, the the biggest shopping today of the year for the most part. here's the question, are people hitting the malls or chilling out at home, shopping online? to politics, president-elect trump's team starting to come together. mitt romney being talked up as one of the leading picks for secretary of state, but that's not sitting too well with a lot of trump's base. and happening this hour, black lives matter protesting in chicago on the magnificent mile, trying to bring attention to what they're calling the city's inaction to the police shooting of a black teenager. we're on it. and the trump rally, of course, it's week two of that. since the election it's been straight up. the market at all-time highs. we've got a big show for you because hour three starts right now. ♪ ♪

charles: breaking news just coming out from president-elect donald trump's daily conference call, announcing that trump will meet with milwaukee county sheriff david clark next week. we have the call out to sheriff clark, and we're hoping that he can join us next week. now right now want to go out, let's check out the big board. dow up 50 points. again, every time you see pluses today, that means we're in new territory, all-time high territory. oil has been short of sloshing around in the range, down today between 44 and $50. a lot of speculation on the takeover front including johnson & johnson reportedly looking into buying a swiss drugmaker. j&j shares, you can see, up on this news. the street probably would be happy to see it happen. we're also watching retailers because, of course, it's black friday. target, walmart, best buy, macy's, kohl's, a mixed picture

but slightly higher. and we cannot forget about apple. this year it's offering some deals, the stock is relatively unchanged on this news. want to bring in lenore hawkins. lenore, the trump rally, let's get your thoughts on that because a lot of professional market watchers are kind of saying it's either extended or it's too early. >> it's a bit overblown, but what we have is an example of just how much investors thought that the economy was being held back by government policies and government gridlock. but, unfortunately, what we saw was really more of a political event. it really wasn't a financial event. it's not unprecedented. back in the 1980s when reagan beat carter, we saw the s&p go up about 18% through february, but by the end of march, it had lost all of those gains. sohis isn't an unusual thing to have happen. charles: although back then though we had reagan and

volcker, paul volcker who was in charge of the fed, they had to make some really serious decisions. and they were painful decisions, but they paid off longer term. it feels like what donald trump is going to do initially out the gate would be things to spur the economy, and so we won't be looking at 18% interest rates like they had back in those days. could we start to see that actually get the market rally even going higher? >> well, i think what trump's facing is a lot more challenges than reagan actually had. back under reagan the top marginal tax rate was 70%. today it's in the 30s. the unemployment rate was 8%, today it's under 5%. back then the national debt to gdp was in the 30% range, today it's over 100%, and back then demographics were very much on our side where the average baby boomer, they were in their 30s, not in their 60s the way they are today. so there's a lot more headwinds. and when people are saying we see the bond market telling us inflation is coming right around

the corner, but i have a tough time seeing that when you have massive capacity utilization that's well overdone. we can do too much with what we have that we don't need. commodity prices, actually a lot of downward pressure on those. energy keeps getting cheaper and cheaper or. we're getting more efficient, and we're coming up with new forms of energy, and that is an input to everything. that's also deflationary -- charles: although some of the commodities, lenore, that bode well or could be a harbinger of massive growth, you know, copper, zinc, even coal has made a huge rebound of late. do you take any, is there any credence in the notion that they're signs, harbingers of the economy probably turning up in part to policy changes but also in part to the so-called animal spirits which could not be unlocked by the fake, you know, stuff with the federal reserve giving money to banks that never made it to main street? >> right. boosting asset prices was not improving the economy. i think there is a lot to be said, but i think it's -- the market is getting ahead of

itself. it takes roughly 12-18 months to implement tax policy, so we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves. as far as international trade, trump can't act unilaterally. there's a few things here and there at the margin that he can do, but most of that is going to take congress. and remember, as much as we all enjoy seeing this stock market rally, trump actually won with fewer votes than romney lost with. so it's not that he's coming in with a massive endorsement from the entire american public. so he's going to have some headwinds. charles: although he is coming in with the house, the senate and the white house which is an unusual trifecta. lenore, thank you very much. enjoy your weekend. we'll see you real soon. i've got some news for you folks. first lady michelle obama welcoming the white house christmas tree. it's a big one too, a 19-foot douglas fir donated by a tree farm in pennsylvania. now to politics. kellyanne conway took to twitter to weigh in on the mitt romney story. of course, the scuttlebutt is

he's going to have a major role in the trump administration. tweeting, quote: receiving downloads of social media and private communications re: romney, some trump loyalists warn against him as secretary of state. fred barnes of "the weekly standard" is with me. fred, what we're hearing is maybe to pave the way mitt romney may do a public apology for all of the things that he said and did to president-elect donald trump. would that assuage potential anger if from some of the masses? the masses of grass root donald trump supporters don't like this idea. >> well, it wouldn't assuage them entirely, but it would sure help. mitt romney was the leader of the never trump movement. as far as i know, he did not vote for donald trump. there have been other critic of trump like nikki haley who criticized trump during the primaries, but she backed him against hillary clinton and, of course, she's going to be u.n. ambassador. and, look, there are forces in

the -- with trump who are lined up against romney. newt gingrich is one, mike huckabee, the former arkansas governor, is one, and it looks like kellyanne conway is not on romney's side either. and then, of course, you have out there a campaign going on by rudy giuliani to be secretary of state. and this, of course, is the biggest job. this is the number one cabinet position. the most prestigious one, the most important one. charles: let's say it's not mitt romney or rudy giuliani. i haven't heard any other names out there of significance, so what happens be it's none -- if it's none of the above? >> well, they'll find somebody else, but it seems to be down to these two right now. and there's strong opposition to both of them. it looks, it looks like trump himself is leaning in favor of romney. remember, he invited him in, and they had a meeting that was, seemed to go well.

but the backlash is, i think, stronger than trump had expected. charles: yeah, i mean, listen, during the campaign donald trump said he could shoot someone on fifth avenue, it feels like people would think this is a lot worse. [laughter] i mean, really, this is the one issue. reince priebus, not a lot of people were happy with that. there was some disappointment with nikki haley, but this is one thing that would certainly challenge those folks who are apolitical or just never really involved this politics who saw once if for all -- once and for all a hero in donald trump. it would tarnish it, but it wouldn't ruin it, would it? >> well, look, i don't think this would be a good example of draining the swamp by bringing in somebody, an elite republican, the republican presidential nominee in 2012 who had been so critical of trump. look, this is going to be -- this will continue to be controversial as the rudy giuliani notion is. and trump may have to turn to somebody else, but i would

reiterate that, as he says, he's the one guy who knows who's going to be picked and who is number one -- charles: right, right. >> -- and it looks like trump is leaning toward romney. charles: listen, the president-elect, okay, he spent the holiday fighting to keep jobs in america, and i want to share a quote, a tweet with you from donald trump and the audience. quote: i'm working hard even on thanksgiving trying to get carrier ac company to stay in the u.s., indiana. making progress, will know soon. fred, what do you make of this? obviously, it would be a huge feather in his cap, and, or you know, people would be just thrilled if this happens. >> well, certainly this shows that trump really is a populist and not a conventional republican. i mean, a conventional republican wouldn't want to interfere in a business decision by some company like carrier which is owned by united technologies. but trump, you know, he certainly talked about thisduris

not only pressuring carrier to cancel their plan to move their manufacturing to mexico, this is a message to companies all over the country. if you're thinking about moving your operations overseas, you better rethink those because if you try to move, you're going to have, you're going to have to contend with the new sheriff in town -- charles: right. >> and that's the president-elect. charles: fred, there are economic consequences in a global economy, and whether it's carrier or ford, so how does -- listen, there's a carrot and a stick. apparently be, donald trump is on the campaign trail talked more about using the stick, but i think whether it's apple or carrier, perhaps talking more about using a carrot, lower taxes and in the case of united technologies, they do tons of business the u.s. we'll see how it works, but it is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. fred barnes, thank you very much. really appreciate it. >> i enjoyed it. charles: hey, want to take a

former president katie fang is with us. katie, i spoke with tom fitton -- not last week, i think it was wednesday. extraordinarily upset. a lot of voters are extraordinarily upset over the prospect of hillary getting away with this. >> so one of the major issues when they were conducting those exit polls of the voters and those that voted for donald trump was this issue involving hillary clinton. would donald trump see it through? we've heard him say, and i've called it the kinder, gentler donald trump that he's not going to make it a priority, but never underestimate the power of the pen and what do i mean by that? well, charles, i mean subpoenas. i'm talking discovery tools in the midst of litigation. judicial watch has aggressively pursued the obama administration looking for transparency, and it's what the american public not only deserves, but what it demands, and i hope they get it by way of judicial watch. charles: some people also saying maybe it's just a matter of semantics, and trump saying he won't pursue it, but his

administration and other law enforcement resources would continue whatever their role is and function is without interruption. could that be an interpretation as well? >> you know what? i think it's impugning maybe a little too much credit to donald trump in that regard. the law enforcement agencies in the federal government operate separate and apart from the executive branch, or at least we think they should. we haven't seen that happen with obama and the department of justice. but, you know, these private lawsuits, these lawsuits brought by organizations like judicial watch, they're incredibly powerful. they're forcing accountability on presidential administrations like obama. i mean, he has to turn over these documents pursuant to a court order, and in failing to do so, there are ramifications. so, again, i wouldn't underestimate the ability of an organization like judicial watch to get some answers that maybe donald trump may not pursue. charles: could they then go, could they be so effective that then maybe this was not the intent of a president trump who is looking now, according to his thanksgiving message and

everything else we have heard, some period of healing, if you will? could they actually force his hand as well? >> of course. i mean, if the information that's provided through the course of this litigation reveals that there was gross conflicts of interest, i mean, we know that bill clinton earned $48 million when his wife, hillary clinton, was secretary of state, and we learned that countries like saudi arabia gave $15 million to the clinton foundation when hillary clinton was secretary of state. things like this, the more that's revealed, it may force donald trump to actually take more of a hard line position which may assuage some of the voters who are, frankly, angered by the fact that he's taken this more conciliatory tone involving hillary clinton. charles: want to shift gears a little bit. former green party candidate jill stein, apparently she's raised $4.7 million to fund recounts, michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin. i mean, have we seen this before? what's the legal precedent for this? >> so it's pretty incredible,

charles. jill stein only raise inside the 2016 election cycle less than $4 million, and yet right now she's at $4.7 million for a recount which really wouldn't affect her. and what's amazing is the voting rights attorney and the university of michigan professor, jason alderman, i believe is his name, haldeman, excuse me, they're calling for this recount. listen, they pitched this idea to hillary clinton earlier this week. clinton didn't respond, and then they pitched it to stein. let me ask you a question, charles. are they going to offer a black friday sale on the attorneys' tee fees in this case? [laughter] $2-$3 million according to jill stein's web site, and for what? wisconsin and pennsylvania, 30 electoral college votes, and yet there's no evidence, proof, just an insinuation that there was some type of hacngone. but it's crazy to spend that kind of money. charles: a lot of people think this is either george soros and and/or hillary clinton using
