national committee. met daniel is the niece of the 2012 presidential nominee and secretary of state's shortlist are governor mitt romney. earlier we learned one of president-elect donald trump's closest most loyal and energetic surrogates will not be joining his administration to the popular former new york mayor rudy giuliani appears to have been pushed away by the transition team and from the president-elect. giuliani is one of the country's fiercest most successful prosecutors and he campaigned at trump side and today he confirmed he has withdrawn his name from consideration to be secretary of state. giuliani did not give a specific reason for his withdrawal but he did say secretary of state is the only job he was ever interested in. >> my desire to be in the cabinet was great but it wasn't

that great and he had a lot of terrific candidates. i thought i could play a better role being on the outside. lou: giuliani being gracious and giuliani is certainly a big loss for trump's efforts to drain the swamp in washington and he loses the council of one of the smartest politicians i believe in the entire country. trump's perspective cabinet begins to take on the appearance of the circle of insiders for president who ran as an outsider , a group of globalist for a president who hasn't all things put america first. we will be going to president-elect trump in grand rapids michigan for what is the fourth stop out his thank you tour. it's an important place. it's important symbolically for donald trump. he visited grand rapids three times through the campaign and closed out his campaign with a late-night rally that stretched until election day. those visits no fault of

close personal friend and i will call upon him for an important place in the administration at a later date. pics of nominate the nominee takes over the republican national committee and certainly the white house takes over the national committee. lou: let me stop you. the white house takes over? >> that's the point i made. it seems we have the rnc taken over the white house and that's my concern. for priebus to say i'm going to pick the person who's going to replace me having been there for seven or eight years because i do want to do any -- undo the things that have been done is not a good thing. there was no one more visible or more symbolic than rudy giuliani. newt gingrich was another one who is very symbolic on the outside so you have through the principles and christie three most adamant advocates of his presidency are all outsiders now. lou. lou: and we are talking about

buyers for donald trump who are now being excluded and pushed away. i want to put up a graphic for the audience to show where we are in the insider outsider contest. as you see there dr. ben carson an outsider, steven bannon an outsider and jeff sessions although a longtime distinguished federal prosecutor and senator. he is considered an outsider. this now looks like we are an insider president and outsider's cabinet. would you make of that? >> i think that's basically true and i think there's one thing you didn't mention and that is gary cohen from goldman sachs. lou: we did mention that. >> i know you mentioned him but you didn't mention who has won that job the economic policy counsel over and that's larry

kudlow. larry kudlow the great economist who along with steve moore put together for donald trump's economic plan who has been with trump for a long time way back in the campaign and certainly a brilliant economist. i personally am very disappointed that trump made this pic and hired another goldman sachs guy over larry kudlow. lou: bannon of course is unique goldman sachs alone because he's an outsider of the highest order and his as anti-establishment as you can get. he's one of the guys that i really like as well. it looks like we aren't hearing from him. i then heard a word from him. he has disappeared into some sort of insular vortex within whatever it is that reince priebus is constructing over there.

i am deeply troubled by the notion that people are feeding donald trump, i mean you know i begin to wonder does he know who his new rnc chairwoman is? is he briefed on the relationship, the fact that she is a swamp critter if you will in the swamp. rex tillerson a second meeting with him and condoleezza rice shows up at the trump tower and the next thing one of the largest clients if not the largest on the part of the rice hadley gates consulting firm is suddenly considered for secretary of state. i mean this is noxious. >> it certainly surprising. this developed later in this process in picking his cabinet. i think he's done some brilliant things. lou: we are talking about the

stuff that may not be so brilliant. >> i. >> i realize that pit why he would want rex tillerson who is a well respected ceo and it's been all around the world and made a petroleum deal with vladimir putin and so on but for secretary of state, secretary of state, there are some awfully good candidates for that job. i personally would prefer. lou: we are going to put an x for your suggestion because the man who deserves the job is none other than john bolton. you can name any one of these people and i'm very serious and whoever you can pull those names and put them in the job if they don't have john bolton at their side they won't know what the hell they are doing. >> he should be running the thing if giuliani can't be there. >> having spent many years in the administration the biggest dangers when you send a cabinet officer who hasn't been around and has been captured by the bureaucracy they send them over saying don't let them capture

you. you are the leader of the pack and pretty soon they say oh my goodness he has such great ideas an obvious we -- lou: we just have a president who didn't even talk to a dog on cabinet so there's a level at which you say put him in the cabinet and dispense with him because i think that's exactly what obama did. he became for the most part nearly entirely figureheads. this cabinet one seems to feel he's going to draw upon. now you may it's very important those who build the secretary seats are critically important. andrew puzder couldn't be any more anti-american worker. fred i mean he is anti-worker. >> i wouldn't call him anti-worker. lou: what would you call him? since i crossed out your recommendation for secretary of

state i will be glad to give the card launch on this one. >> i have always been for john bolton for secretary of state. lou: wait a minute you said that romney. >> i have always thought john bolton would be the best for the reasons we just heard. that is john bolton understands what can happen. lou: you have an anti-worker labor secretary working in a cabinet for a president who says it's going to be higher america and buy a worker, the american worker for the first time will be heard by their government. >> e. is a job creator though. lou: he created jobs in fast food restaurants and that's wonderful that you are not talking about henry ford with the assembly line for crying out loud. >> i agree with you on that. lou: tell dell crystal he and i

lou: we are awaiting donald trump and grand rapids michigan his fourth stop on his thank you tour. joining me is general jack keane retired four-star general chairman of the institute for the study of war and the great american and delighted that you are here. i'm going to ask everybody in the control room to please turn down the sound and others a lot of excitement in grand rapids that i need to hear the general and if you will give us the full screen here. general con it's good to have you here as i'm trying to help with the show here. i apologize. >> that's okay. lou: i'm a quasi-producer, whatever. the idea that we have three generals and we just heard ed

rollins say he's feeling about about -- better about the general than almost anybody else. your reaction to the appointments by a president-elect and how do you feel about that? >> i'm not concerned of the militarization of the national security functions in our government it does listen to generals having been in war and the human dimension takes its toll on a personal level. when they are talking about war as an option they are going to make certain that all of the other options are exhausted and then if military force is going to be used they will also be insisting let's make sure that they have a clear objective that there is a state here. i'm not concerned at all about something like that. lou: neither him eye and by the way here that from the left and

the left has been reduced to irrelevancy and i frankly don't think it's worth discussion. i'm more concerned about the thoughts of one of the country's most distinguished general officers and how you feel about it and the direction you see the trump transition team and soon-to-be administration shaping up. >> overall i think he's doing an incredible job number one at of picking good people in number two doing it in a timely fashion. i think it clearly demonstrates the energy has to get on with doing what he said during the campaign. i can say in my discussions with him i was impressed with how much he truly wants to be successful and how he truly wants to get this right and he has got a huge energy around doing that and i think that's why these appointments are falling so quickly. and these general officers, he

is the leader himself. he is a strong leader. he's a man of conviction. he is a straight talker and a lot of these general officers are similar to that but i think by and large looking at these positions they are likely the best athletes on the field. they been at war for 15 years and there's a heck of a competition that goes on inside the military that people don't wreck my and for its his fierce. call out the people like can't handle the stress and can handle the pressure and don't get results. lou: as he sailed a terrific officers. what troubles me so much in one of the reasons i find the presence of those generals, i think should be comforting is that they are frustrated the one thing they cannot have is an absolute victory in the war against the radical islamist terrorists who may have been fighting as you say for 15 years. >> it's absolutely tragic and this is policy decisions that have driven that.

we have no strategy. we have no alliances to it and afghanistan is no longer a winnable war. policy decisions made by the obama administration principally also assisted by the bush administration going to war in iraq but that is absolutely tragic. a war for 15 years in afghanistan and we can't win it? i'm absolutely convinced of that. lou: general it ius great to talk with you. appreciate you taking the time in the ore to seeing you soon. general jack keane. breaking news a bone chilling arctic blast has 200 million people in its path and it started happening and impact of the polar vortex creating tragic driving conditions on the nation's road and will continue to do so as it moves from the northwest east to the northeast of course and now such as lake

he is set to start a rally at the multiplex arena. it holds. trump has held rallies twice there before. fox news correspondent is with donald trump now. >> good evening. just like we were in des moines there were several thousand people here. i can tell you a crowd that has been very anxious to see the president-elect has filled in all of the seats that are up at the serene which is normally where the d league nba team plays. at least a couple of thousand people sitting on the floor. they got here early. even though mister trump is in the area. they were standing outside in the cold where they were.

they say this to her has been a great success there when you talk to a lot of people that come here just looking out at some of themthere surprising them on all sides. they are very happy to get a chance to come and see the president-elect so soon after the election. and to hear some of the specifics. he's thinking about putting in the cabinet. a lot of people are mentioning the carrier deal here in west michigan. it's something they want to hear more of. to make the energy in the room as you are speaking we know outside its 24 degrees wins is 7 miles per hour. he should be flattered that is pretty intense commitment on their part but we knew that he have very intense plans and

certainly on election day. >> a couple of the think you events. he makes a point to talk about how he wanted not just in the state he is in. but he would say i'm not was to have a chance in pennsylvania or michigan. with that impression you will have to work on that a little bit. if you raise the energy. i have to give you credit again for a great line talking about the previousrally peter used the expression for all of the folks at the rally their return customers as peter put it. while don -- will done.

niece to the rnc. this is looking like crony critters going into the swamp before he dreams it. it's going on? >> he was around trump tower a lot.what is going on. we know rudy giuliani. i think he will still be involved. he was the only one that got out with his dignity. he turned in his resolve to the process. for many other cabinet secretary. come on, let's go.

>> it's probably the middle. >> this is donald trump. he is disrupted he is moving. what's going on? >> look at all of the pics so far. he is an outsider president. this thing looks like an insiders club. name one that has significant dc experience on their resume. they're all from other parts of the country. we want to go in terms of establishment figures. i look at ben carson and steve bannon. he is a formidable intellect with a strong traditional american values and who who is courageous beyond measure.

it just looks peculiar when you look at that and you think there's an outsiderdoes anybody remember that. >> he is still an outsider. he still gonna drain the swamp. >> is doing something clever. the trump family they are shooters and hunters. they're trying to bring all of the predators into the swamp and then he's going to drain it. >> every time donald trump got second-guessed throughout the campaign he was always proven right in the end. >> i'm only asking questions. let me tell you what i'm an american him m and ask questions when they occur to me. it doesn't make any difference who i'm talking about or who i am talking to.

>> you are one of the best question askers in the country. now i want you to be the best answer in the country. >> that's why i am here. i have to tell you i'm so deeply disappointed about rudy giuliani. i don't think he was treated while by the transition. i'm not pleased that there is a sense that he was pushed away from the trump tower by a rant previous. i'm not comfortable with the fact that a romney is get a b running the rnc that is discomfort for me and probably for millions of folks who had voted for him and had great high hopes. we have the president-elect now in the grand rapids venue. about 6,000 people there on a blustery night but they want

to see the man and it is get a b running the country for the next four years and there he is. let's watch. [applause]. >> i'm here tonight for one main reason. to say thank you to the incredible people of michigan. you went out and pounded the pavement organize your fellow

citizensand propelled to victory of grassroots movement the likes of which actually the world will just had to say the country has never seen. and now working to bring back the jobs. i also want to give a very special thank you to our veterans who have been so incredible to me and to you our service members servicemembers in our military families. boy do we get their votes. big numbers. america's men and women in uniform are the finest and bravest the world has ever known. so to all who have borne the uniform i say thank you very much.

issues that we will have to tackle his education. you know what i'm about to say. america spends more in education than any country by far and yet our results are terrible. we spend more per pupil than any nation in the world by far and you look at sweden and denmark and norway and china into japan and they are all at the top and you look at us spending much more per pupil. we will change that. we are going to reform our broken education system to put students and families first. [applause]. so importantly, this includes providing great application -- education to students living in our inner cities. we forgot about the men and

women they are not so forgotten anymore by the way in case you haven't noticed. they're still trying to figure it out, and the media. where did all of the millions of people come from. they come out and big-league numbers our reform plan includes eliminatedcommon core and bringing education local in providing school choice. we won every child, every single child low income, we don't care where they are, where they live. every child to be able to attend public, private, charter, or religious school that is right for them. [applause]. the person that i have

selected to lead the department of education and my opinion one of my most important decisions is a native of michigan of all places, [applause]. considered by everybody to be one of the top education reformers in the nation. someone totally respected, someone devoted and devoting decades to helping disadvantaged students. i am thrilled to walk up to the stage your next secretary of education betsy devos. [applause].

>> thank you. [applause]. thank you, thank you mister president elect. what an amazing leader. are we proud of president-elect trump. [applause]. you know the so-called experts didn't think we could when it but we did. we believed in president-elect trump and we went to the polls and changed the world. it is an amazing thing what can happen when someone believes in you. nowhere is that more true than in our schools and in the lives of our kids. i am so excited and humbled to be nominated as secretary of education [applause].

and in deference to the u.s. senate confirmation i'm not getting interviews but just between us let me share this. it's time to make education great again in this country. [applause]. this means putting kids first every single day this means expanding choices and options for a quality education regardless of their zip code or their family circumstances. this means letting states set their own high standards in finally putting an end to the federalized common core. for me it is simple, i trust parents. and i believe in our children. but it won't be washington dc that unlocks that potential it won't be a giant bureaucracy or a federal department, nope. the answer is it bigger government, the answer is local control, listening to parents and it's is giving more choices. if i am fortunate enough to be confirmed as your secretary of education our kids, your kids well have a someone fighting for them every single day. [applause]. i had been involved with education issues are 28 years as an activist, a citizen volunteer and an advocate

advocate for children. i had experience, the passion, in the know how to make change happen. still there are many of you here and many in the media and the education community who may not know me. in fact there is a lot of folks with the news out there. all i ask for is an open mind and the opportunity to share my heart. together, let's make education a great again. [applause]. so let me repeat there is a lot of false news out there

all i ask for is an open mind and the opportunity to share my heart together let's make education great again and let's win for kids. thank you very much. [applause]. thank you, betsy. is michigan proud of that seat? yes. and you're you are going to be even more proud as time goes by. she will do an incredible job. with betsy at our side i know we will make great strides in fixing our broken schools all over the country. it will be a beautiful thing to watch. she will do it.

i have no doubt. to accomplish our goals for this country government must stop listening to the special interests and start delivering for the national interest. we have to. it's time to deliver for you the american people our plan begins at bold reforms to create millions and millions of great pain jobs. whether it is building cars, producing steel or curing disease we want the next generation of innovation in production to happen right here in america and right here in michigan. and you know, so i one michigan.

[applause]. in michigan hasn't been one for many years and i felt i was going to win it. i felt like i was get to win the whole thing. i didn't have michigan on our list of stops for the final day and i did the speeches i did six of them, that's a lot. i did three a day for a month and these were big speeches and we did not need any entertainers to come in and entertain. we had packed houses. thousands and thousands. but at the last moment i said 9:00 in the evening let's go to michigan. because i heard my opponent had scheduled michigan unexpectedly. all the sudden with president

obama and michelle and bill and hillary and they were going to michigan. it was great before the election. i said let's go to michigan. i see the faces. some of you were here. so we head between inside and outside with 31,000 people and i started speaking at almost 1:00 in the morning. and now it was election day now it was tuesday i left onmone it was almost 1:00 in the morning. with 31,000 people at 1:00 in the morning and i said we're going to win the chicken. i felt it.

we did. i heard a half an hour ago that we totally one. that was just the way it was the way they were gonna try to win the money for themselves. the courts with great people in the whole group. you spoke very well. she didn't sleep for about six months. i will tell you that. and merry christmas everybody. they reminded me we are going to start saying merry christmas again. [applause]. how about all of those department stores they have the bells in the red walls in

the snow but they don't have merry christmas. i think they will part -- i think they will start putting up merry christmas, merry christmas. that was a big group of people that said that. it was that evening which turned out to be election morning and i got home at 4:00 in the morning and i said to my wife i said honestly, i don't see how we could lose michigan. then we won wisconsin [applause]. and of course we won pennsylvania. did you see the look on their face. it started with ohio and it was almost by nine points. we were expected to win ohio and we didn't have any support there i have to tell you. we were expected to do while

in ohio we won by nine and iowa came in and we won by more than ten and then we won almost every single county in iowa. we had 11 county that hadn't have it been one since 1952. that's a long time. the governor of iowa who has a great relationship because they sell so much product to china, governor terry branstad was just made the ambassador to china. he likes china, they like him. he will be fantastic. what happened on the evening was incredible. they have some the other people. it might've been the greatest single sporting event we have ever seen. it started with ohio and iowa.

they also said texas is in play. for two months we have all been hearing texas is in play and we heard georgia is in play. i said we are in trouble. sometimes i don't believe these people. so, the polls open and close and now we go live on television with the numbers and we have lousy exit polls. in fact in fact, i got a call from ivanka. dad, it's not looking good. it was 5:00, you know, the exit polls. you don't have to give bad exit polls, in two hours they're going to know. they didn't have to do that. it's not looking good, the exit polls are not looking good, and you know, they put bad questions in the exit polls that say like many people say

donald trump is a very, very bad person. do you agree that he's a horrible human being? [laughter] yes or no? and the people go, yeah, i guess. boom. so you know, so we go out and immediately -- no, the election's over. [booing] that was a bernie fan. [laughter] the election ended three weeks ago, darling. [applause] someday soon she will be on our side. you watch. [cheers] so it was so exciting. so i get these horrible calls. i get a couple of them, but

ivanka said, dad, i'll tell you, you really worked hard. i said, you know what, ivanka? as bad as it may be, i don't feel, you know, like in a football team, i left nothing on the field, right? i left nothing on the field. get him out of here.
