we thank you for being with us tonight. good night from new york. ♪ ♪ nicole: breaking news this morning, president trump playing offense pressuring gop conservatives to get behind his agenda, we will have the latest on the story, good friday morning, i'm nicole petallides. lauren: good friday morning, i'm lauren simonetti. on capitol hill the senate hold a hearing on russia's meddling in the u.s. election while michael flynn offers to it have in exchange to immunity to avoid a, quote, witch hunt. nicole: investors tally gains, dow almost up 5% and s&p up nearly 6% and the nasdaq up nearly 10% as we head go the final trading day of this quarter.

flynn is part of ongoing informations on possible context between trump's presidential campaign and russia. flynn issuing a statement, no reasonable person who has the benefit of advise from counsel would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized witch hunt without assurances against unfair prosecution. >> karl rove on the first one hundred days. >> i thought it was an unusual gesture on his part. it was okay for him to step forward i will it have, i will be happy to meet with him but the request for immunity i thought was really troubling. lauren: all this comes after a day after senate intelligence committee held hearing on russia's meddling with election. >> fake news, hacking, propaganda even dead russians, senate intelligence committee on russian interference with the u.s. election on hot charges yesterday.

open hearing on russia experts and esm u.s. intelligence officials testify so no firm findings from any active u.s. intelligence agencies yesterday but the committee is digging with the help from the private sector. >> while many organizations are actively trying to counter these attacks there's such an asymmetry with offense and defense in cyberspace that's it's really hard for any organization to modernize and prevent these intrusions from occurring when you have a state sponsored attacker. >> the top democrat said is seek to go determine if there was actually fire, his words in russian interference in the election because so far for him there's a great deal of smoke. russian president putin going yesterday saying russia never interfered in the u.s. election in any way reputing previous charges by u.s. intelligence agencies, back to you in new york. lauren: thank you, peter barnes. nicole: joining us political analyst.

thank you so much for being with us this morning. there's no evidence from collusion between trump campaign and russia. >> fbi director comey came out and said in hearings, democrats on the hill continue to make a big story because they feel they are pushing by the liberal groups to resist anything and everything. they are trying to look so hard that the trump campaign and administration -- lauren: is it something? tbin told if you're given immunity you probably committed a crime. >> right. lauren: karl rove called it unusual. what is he hiding, what story does he have to tell? >> to what truth we don't know about the white house aides, possibly participating with devin nunes and giving him this information. he was on the inside and they were saying that possibly people from the national security counsel.

if he has information there, specially bone to pick with a former employee of the white house and that's the information where says i have information that might help. whatever he's doing he feel that he can defend president trump. nicole: how should the white house be dealing with this investigation and how much of a distraction is it to the trump agenda? >> you hit the nail on the head. it is a complete distraction, right, democrats want to keep this going and take it all the way to the bank. the white house, however, because of the difficulty and how does devin nunes get the documents right. they need to make sure they are clean from this because whatever find dogs come out and whatever happens, there's no findings of collusion, whatever happens with russia and hacking, anything with election results, for the benefit of the people and his agenda, they have a budget showdown coming up. they need make sure that their hands are completely clean and maybe stay off twitter when it comes to commenting on the situation.

lauren: how long can that go on for? >> this can go until the summer. the unmasking, people not rightfully unmasked, that is going to be huge and that will continue on into the summer so we are going to have to continue to watch this as we go -- nicole: anything we are missing? >> generally cybersecurity is a huge, huge issue. in the course of-few days senator marco rubio was hacked by ip addresses from russia, so this is, you know, we really need to step you are cyber warfare game when it comes not to only russia but any other country that's trying to not only hack in the election but peddle information. co: political analyst, thank you so much for breaking that down. >> thanks. lauren: present trump firing the first to the conservative wing of the republican party. freedom caucus will hurt the entire republican agenda if they don't get on the team and fast. we must fight them and democrats

north and south through our state, a chunk of it has just been taken out of play. lauren: as you can imagine the fire causing a traffic nightmare for drivers. >> i've been driving for like an hour and a half now, i'm just trying to go home. lauren: good news is that no injuries have been reported. nicole: lets get you caught up on the global market action overnight. we begin in asia, nikkei down more than three quarters of 1% as is the hong kong hang seng and korea kospi down a quarter of 1%. the only gainer is shanghai composite in china up one-third of 1%. lauren: in europe stocks are trading mixed down at the moment. ftse in london is down 41 points, half of 1%. cac if pa race down 20 and the dax in germany down 15. nicole: it's been a great first quarter and today, though, it is looking to the downside, dow futures down 44 points, s&p futures down 6 right now. lauren: winning week, winning

quarter for u.s. investors, the month mixed, the dow showing weakness, could be the first down month in five months. gold down 3 bucks. nicole: mcdonalds is feeling fresh adding fresh beef starting next year. mcdonalds has announced it will use fresh beef instead of frozen patties by the middle of next year, after the change burgers for quarter pounders will be set right to grill. so it isn't known how the fresh burger will affect the pricing, patties and big macs will be prepared ahead of time. lauren: i wonder if it changes the taste. >> five, four, three, two, one.

nicole: will the freedom caucus get on board? will the president as he said, look, you're not going to work with me, i will go right to the democrats to get support? what do you think of that? >> this is a really hard sell and here is why, last night on facebook here in ohio i saw lake a message posted by a lot of the leaders of the freedom -- the backers of freedom parties, coalition that really came together held noses and voted for donald trump because they believed he was the right guy. respectful e-mail but i have seen this movie before and this is how it starts. he's got to be real careful to not an -- lauren: jay, reminding that the freedom caucus was on his side. on the tweet we stood with you, remember who your real friends are. >> right. this is a challenge of the house, this is the challenge of getting legislation through. look, in my opinion, the

president really has to start plowing the field, making the case for some of the big agenda items are important and what the american people are going to get out of it. they didn't do it with healthcare reform. they didn't do it why this plan was the right plan so now all of a sudden the pressure is not exerted on the freedom caucus or moderates, whoever you're looking at. they have to start doing that. tax reform is not quagmire, they need to make sure they start doing that before they go to big legislative fights. it's going to take time and effort and it's really important to do. nicole: there's a lot of criticism of paul ryan throat all of this. if you were giving the president some advise on the agenda, what would it be? >> well, i think he needs to get legislative wins. he has done a lot of stuff with executive actions and the gorsuch pick is a fantastic pick. the trade issue might get him back on track because they feel they are getting a raw deal. he has to get legislative wins, what i would say is go to infrastructure.

tax reform right now, that's a quagmire, you pick winners and losers. so it's really hard to get true tax reform. it's really important to do but hard to get done. go to something that you can win. go to the trade issue and then also go to infrastructure bills. i think those are places you can start winning and building momentum. lauren: he's tackling trade today, maybe infrastructure, yes, wouldn't this increase the budget, the cbo with a report saying the national debt to double in the nucleares decade. quickly. >> yeah,ic we need to look at that too. policy wise that we could have that debate. i'm talking about trying to get political momentum. lauren: got it. >> he's for hire and been clear on that before building a wall. that's going to cost a lot of money but those are places you go and get wins and he needs to do that if he's -- lauren: got it.

people, you know that fundamentally he recognizes he needs to get them on his side, really, paul ryan also did this over the weekend. you know, he came out and said, trump might go to the democrats, also another threat. hey, we can block this stuff, you better listen to us. nicole: i think donald trump is forthright and can be very tough and knows how to make a deal. this is his way of doing it and now he's focusing on getting the democratic support whether it's for tax cuts or whatever, what do you think? >> the freedom caucus is in a good spot here because they are in safe districts, they are not in swing districts. president trump can say that he's going to work with the democrats all he wants, the democrats are not going to work with president trump, there's just no way that they are going to do that. it's totally against their mo. at tend of the day, one of the freedom caucus members made a

great point, they said, the way to pass good sleción not to name call but to get good legislation, get a good bill, right, a lot of people feel like the process was rushed oh going into health care and they need to deliver for the american people. that's the results that, i think, everyone can unify behind. lauren: donald trump needs to plow the field, lay out his cards. >> yes. lauren: tell us what the policies are and why they are right. what does the freedom caucus want? >> they are a purist, they are sticking to a conservative agenda and president trump needs to remember that he -- a lot of conservatives were not on his side going into the nomination, so he's got to make sure that he's listening to those folks, but at the end of the day, the republican party has got to unify and govern well. right, they have to show after being an opposition party for eight years, they have to show they can govern well because 2818 mid-terms are going to come before you know it. lauren: like you said they are

in safe -- >> freedom caucus are in safe districts, right, but the republicans could lose a lot of other seats, but the other thing is they realize that they didn't have the ground gain in place when they were trying to pass the healthcare legislation so you have katie walsh, the deputy chief of staff who just left the white house, she's going to outside group to get mailers out there and tv ads and start to persuade people that these are good policies, call senators and house members an let's get the bills through. lauren: all right, kirsten for your perspective. nicole: thanks, kirsten. president trump is set to sign executive orders, aimed after identifying factors that are causing massive u.s. trade deficits. the orders are also seek to go strengthen antidumping rules and enforcement. this comes as the president prepares for the first face to face meeting with chinese president xi jinping in florida where trade issues could be a major source of tension.

nicole: let's check out key commodities right now, oil is down 8 cents. gold is down 4 bucks. lauren: people want to eat healthier so mcdonalds is going fresh. they have announced that it's going to use the fresh beef instead of frozen batties in quarter pounders in most of the restaurants in the middle of 2018. prices are usually set by the individual franchise owners so still not known if the fresh beef burgers are going to cost more money. mcdonalds did say that beef patties and big macs will continue to be frozen and prepared ahead of time at least for now. nicole: starting tomorrow amazon will expand sales tax to all state that is charge sales tax. state that is want third-party sellers which account for growing sellers to pay their fair too. most of the sellers are difficult to find giving them a

sign executive orders and fix the trade deals. they are the reason for having large u.s. deficit. there's a hard line that we are trying to draw. what do you think he needs to do then? >> this might be the right place to go. there's going to be a lot of challenges going forward. the other thing we have to look at what is the north korea situation going to be. is he going to have executive orders signed today and is he going the back off in trade with north korea. north korea is a huge threat to america. they may be having a nuclear missile that could hit our west coast in the near future. he's got to make sure that china continues to take a hard or tougher stance against north korea and this is a way to leverage the opportunity too. lauren: let's move onto neil gorsuch. i think there are six votes high now that two senate democrats have said that they will vote for him. so is he going to be our next supreme court justice? >> he is absolutely going to be the next supreme court justice. this has been the biggest win of the trump administration in the

first 70 days. democrats are completely insaip to threaten filibuster. there are so many places that they should be fighting. gorsuch is going to be the next supreme court justice and great justice. nicole: what is chuck schumer thinking when he's so adamant on the other side in. >> a base strategy, someone that's conservative and true conservative, gorsuch has proven through the hearings to be very adept. i was listening to left-wing podcast, boy, this guy is really smooth. this is a mistake, political mistake, they should find -- threaten the filibuster and move off quickly and focus on other things. that's what i would do if i was a democratic strategists. nicole: march madness come to to a head and we will run through the four massachusetts-ups. why did these players have to hit the deck? we will explain.

after two weeks of bracket busting basketball the ncaaa men's tournament is down to the final dour. teams have arrive today phoenix for tomorrow's games. gonzaga and south carolina are making first appearance ever in final four. congratulations. oregon has not been to one since 1939 and as for north carolina it is their 20th visit. well, gonzaga and south carolina will square off in first game and that will be followed by the tar heel and the ducks. there you see it. in new york it was the nit championship tcu and georgia tech. wasn't much of a contest though. up 11 at the break. williams misses but he's there to jam it home. tcu wins it easily 88 to 56 and they are an it champions. to the nba, the struggle continues for the cavaliers, second quarter against the bulls, lebron james beat it is
