an investor focus on global tensions and also corporate earnings. joining us now is chief market strategist at wunderlich security. nice to see you again. thanks for being back with us. >> good morning. thanks for having me. lea: are you concerned with deeper u.s. involvement in syria and rhetoric out of north korea right now? is there any concern that investors can do to protect against political risk right now? >> yeah, geopolitical risk is the largest risk in the market right now. the markets very resilient, very patient towards getting the president's new policies in place which get pushed a 2018. the large unknown if this first strike in syria the beginning of a much longer process and obviously a fresh is complicit in this entire action, any hope we have a better relationship

they talk about during the election process is completely off the table. how is our relationship with china going to proceed if north korea can a news with all of their missile test, et cetera. geopolitics clearly a much larger risk than the first earnings season for the timing of getting tax cuts. >> i want to ask you about that. they might be pushed back to 2018. is that true for tax reform. december possibly or is this going into 2018? >> is obviously complicated because repeal and replace failed. whatever comes out, whether it's by the august break for him to 18. it will be something less. lauren: cement stocks fall? >> well, hard to know.

the market isn't necessarily pricing at 15% or 20% corporate tax rate. i certainly don't think it's pricing aboard are just attacks. the function of what this looks like we know a window at the house of a to do and we know all of this will take time. but say it starts at the house goes to the senate. you might not get in the reconciliation until the august break and that means you've got to be voted on in the fourth quarter this year. the timing is most likely pushed out to 18. i think tax reform happening and 18 will land in the laps of this economy right when we need it. probably more needed and 18 and 17. lea: last week disappointing jobs report, strikes in syria. the market seems to say pretty much steady. would you expect us to go into this holiday weekend? >> it's interesting. mostly large financials with most of your work done this week. people take advantage of the weak and militant on thursday.

next-line that the real taliban would get answers post g-7 to see if they make a statement about more sanctions towards russia and see things escalate over the weekend in north korea. too many hotspots to make a prediction as to what happened. the u.s. economy and earnings picture continued to be consistent. lauren: you don't mail it in a way are simply not going to mail it in after wednesday. speaking of mailing it in, this calm market, this low volume holiday week. so basically you just kind of sit on your hands right now? how deeply the market? >> after a miscarriage post election and another little bump in february, we've been at a place were stuck in a range. something like 2335. the yield on the tenure between 23 and 26. unless and until we get major geopolitical events or financial action that goes awry, the market is not steady.

if we did pass tax reform before the midterm election of 2018, that is a huge win they can go back to districts that and say they got this done. if not off the table. sean spicer as well as senate majority leader mitch mcconnell have both lowered expectations on the passage this year. i think a lot of people since not only on the hill, but individuals and investors since the administration is learned for the mistakes they made with the health care bill and perhaps taking time is better. 1986 tax reform took two years. lauren: when it happened, the stock market loved it. where do we stand with the controversial border adjustment tax at this point? at the date of the republic in existence right now. retailers hate the border adjustment tax. is that that tax is something that individuals and consumers really don't like. right now it's all about revenue.
