lou: joining me to talk about the presidentments comments about kim jong-un. and some of the work that's being done in the ways and means committee and how things are going with the president's agenda in the house of representatives is congressman lee zeldman. let's start with kim jong-un. your reaction to the president saying straight out under the right circumstances he would be willing to meet with the north korean leader. >> i think that's so important that we understand he said under the right circumstances. the conditions have to be right. the president as we have seen over the course of the last few months, where maybe he was getting criticized when he started his presidency because he hadn't developed a plan to win upon north korea as we

wanted him to, his predecessor didn't. now this president has a strategy 8-15 moves ahead. we operate under diplomacy economics, all options on the table. multi-lateral engagement with other countries. he's firing on all cylinders. and i give him a lot of credit. he's thinking many steps ahead, and he's developing a strategy that will work. lou: what are your expectations? what should we expect? >> any top option of how to deal with north korea includes the chinese. but we need to lead as well. we need to show the united states will not provide north

korea any access to our financial system. any country that wants to provide support whether it's the import of coal or iron or iron tore or provide -- iron ore. then we need other countries to get involved. lou: what you are describing is the president's initiatives and his leadership being validated by the congress, which is fine. but i get the idea the congress is not quite comfortable with the president's animation and intellect and command of the government. it's almost as if there is some sort of holdover from the passivity, the leading from behind strategic patience of obama. when we have a president commanding the government and our military and foreign policy.

>> the biggest issue is you have a lot of democrats, maxine waters comes to mind. they basically pledged to oppose, resist, oppose, obstruct entirely. they do not want to work at all with the president because their base is telling them you can't normalize the trump presidency. lou: why would anybody worry about the democratic base? >> i'm just answering where i'm seeing the most resistance around our country. lou: what i'm saying is it seems great momentum could be built for the president if the house and the senate were to be energetically following the president house the leader of the party within the leader of the government the head of state.

he's all of that, and he's doing a bankup job. so why not everybody kinds of think about where we are headed here? >> i think on foreign policy as it relates to north korea or using the moab in afghanistan or successfully separating the need to fund the greatest military in the world without also having to spends just as much on discretionary spending, his limited targeted attack of infrastructure, not people, in syria. there is strong support for the president's foreign policy. and i believe the confidence and opt number of -- maxine waters -- lou: she has never been quoted so much on his broadcast or foreign policy. >> she is also the one who talks about russia attacking korea. she was the one trying to get

the president impeached while the president's hand was on the bible. lou: the dems evidence by senator schumer, they are just creating noise. they don't amount to much in the way of true platform or even directional turn tough for the country. >> they have nothing left. you come from a very blue district. everyone show is representing the republican districts have lost. and when you go back home, there is a parade waiting for you. if you come to washington, d.c. and you oppose and on struck this president's agenda and go back to your district in san francisco, they are treating you like you are a hero. but you are elected to go to the if united states congress to represent the greatest country in the world. lou: if i may offer you a salve,

doug, great to have you back with us. like most people i'm tired of the 100 days thing. but give us your assessment. how does the president done and what grade would you give him if you were in the business of giving grades to presidents. tie would give him an a plus. he turned around the economy, he turned around illegal immigration, he turned around the supreme court, and, lou, that's yes was elected. that's why 96% of the people who voted for him will vote for him again and why he will do better against hillary clinton today than did last november. you can't get much better than that. lou: you were talking about hillary clinton. the idea that this president has to put up with a national

left-wing media that is dogging him, irrespective of all the successes and far more that you did not new rate. but he's also changed the conversation. it's no longer just a discussion about academically or abstractly about free trade. there is a real drive behind rationalizing and smartly governing this country's trade relationships. illegal immigration. people actually asking the question, why is it people should come into this country, not surrender their identity because they want to be americans, but no they want to be multi-cultural. why are we permitting corruption on both sides of the border and why is this the first president in history to say we are going to go after the drug cartels, the transnational gangs destroying american lives?

>> that ms-13, they are targeting illegal immigrants. if you care about illegal immigrants, why would you allow murderers to run free on the streets? i'll tell you something else. hillary clinton went 9 months without a press conference and finally gave one in september just before the election in november. this president has given 9 press conferences in his first 100 days. lou: you didn't see much of a mention of that in the left-wing media. though they should consider themselves beneficiaries of it all. republicans particularly in the house are not crediting him with the conversations he changed, the direction he's taking the nation. they are opposing him in some of the most weak-kneed petty ways,

whether it's attempting to hang on to the house's speaker ryan's so-called better way agenda, pushing all sorts of nonsense that isn't the president's agenda. >> the corruption in washington, the legalized corruption is bipartisan. and it runs deep and it will be hard for him to change. it's going to pull them kick and screaming out of the swamp. so it will be tough and there is a lot of vested interest. what encourages me is wall street. wall street was solidly behind hillary clinton. they just gave $400,000 to barack obama to give a speech. they gave to their foundation, they expected them to win, 9% of those executives in media properties and journalists gave to the clinton election. but she didn't win. so they are invested in all of this.

forget planned parenthood. >> americans are right to be upset about this budget. speaker ryan is supposed to be the president's voice in the congress yet he's not advancing the president's agenda. speaker ryan with this bill is funding planned parenthood, increasing funding to our frequently lawless federal judiciary and health and human services. speaker ryan and the congressional republicans should hold their heads down in shame. byron: there is more to it than just not having money for the wall and not cracking down on sanctuary cities. republicans are buzzing about the fact that it includes more h2b low-wage foreign worker visas. this is something the leadership

in both parties wants all the time. they have thrown that in there, too. from an immigration expand point where the republican standpoint there is some good things, there is more money for border security. but there are some big, big problems as far as republicans who would like to limit immigration. lou: it looks like it was written by k street and h street lobbyists when following their interests on illegal immigration in particular. the president folks telling us they think they are four or five votes short on the new healthcare bill. i talked to kevin brady, the chairman of the ways and means committee. he doesn't seem concerned. what do you think,. gaylegayle?gayle: they have note

to communicate to the american people how it adds to higher costs. it's a paper-centered health system instead of patient-centered. republicans who campaigned on repealing obamacare, they have not done this expeditiously. lou: they can't seem to find a pen that works. byron: if you do the math, there are 238 republicans in the house. they will need 217 to pass it. so they could loss 21. they have at least 25, maybe more republicans who just don't want to do this. you have to ask yourself the question, can you really do it? democrats oppose it unanimously.
