treated. the office released this update on his condition. congressman steve scalise sustained a rifle shot to the left hip. fractured bone from injury and internal organs and causing severe bleeding. he was transported to the hospital center, in level one trauma center. he underwent surgery and additional procedure to stop bleeding. he's received multiple units of blood transfusions. he will require additional operations. the investigation into the suspect, james hodgkinson continues. the fbi not giving many details right now. deeply hodgkinson traveled from his home in bellevue, illinois. the fbi released this poster asking the public for help. >> to the local alexandria community. we believe the shooter has been living out of his vehicle on

where scalise other victims are treated. that was an unexpected visit in late last night the office issued this update about his condition and said congressmen steve scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip, fracturing bones come and drink internal organs and causing severe bleeding. he was transferred to the washington center current level one trauma. he received multiple units of blood transfusion. his condition is critical and he will require additional operation. 66-year-old james hodgkinson is undergoing the fbi not releasing details that the julie who traveled from his home in bellevue, illinois and has been in virginia since march. the fbi issued this post asking the public for any help.

trent did tell us about the shooter and how do you fall through the cracks? >> look, he left his home in illinois several months ago. he's apparently been living out of a car for a past several weeks. possibly using a local gym for hygiene and his base of operations. really he shouldn't have appeared on any community grid other than perhaps in virginia where cops might've been interested in the fact he was politically a good and kind of been in transient. i could easily see him falling through the cracks a little bit, but a certain point of the local law enforcement responsibility to keep their eyes open. lauren: say he was politically active in social media, which we've seen. once again the social media discussion. how is it monitored, is it being monitored and when you see such strong hatred, will you do about it?

>> this is a really challenging thing. there's been a focus after the series of attacks in london, paris and san bernardino in the usn or linda for the intelligence community to track the social media and online hate speech and radical speech. the tech companies have been brought into little bit. keep places like facebook and yahoo! and twitter have committed to cracking down more on extremist regulation. that's a really challenging thing because it's only certain types of extremist conversations we need to be tracking. the company is engaged on this willingness to go in after extreme left wing speech as they are radical terrorism. it is completely a concern. they'll wind up sleeping on the political speech under the same rubric and focus resources where
