non-state actor is the kind of thing the fbi would want to know. cheryl: wray promises to remain independent of the white house. lauren: he wasn't the only one speaking or testifying yesterday. so was janet yellen. dow closing at record high after the fed chair told congress essential bank plan to continue to raise interest rates gradually, let's get more from adam shapiro. adam: fed expect that is they will begin unwinding the balance sheet later this year. this was all part of the system that janet yellen delivered before members of the house of representatives. she's going to do the same thing later this morning before the senate. a part of semiannual testimony that the fed does if economic outlook. they are also concerned that inflation she says is not growing quite at the pace they would like so they are going to keep interest rates low e, they will raise them gradually but the key for investors is when will they start unwinding the balance sheet and here is what the fed chair said.

>> coming into the meeting i thought there would be two by the end of the year, i am going roll that back, probably like one at this point. certainly not one in july and i think the real focus for the fed and now for the markets as well is going to be the rollback of the balance sheet and the tapering of that off. it's likely to start in september but she was very clear that whatever we get to even though it's going to be a dramatic cut, the balance sheet will remain very high relative to other expectations free crisis. lauren: do you expect president trump to appoint janet yellen to another term. >> there's no love loss. that's well known. i think the president wants to put his own stamp on the fed and the name that comes upmost often is gary cohn. janet is the academic, gary cohn is operator from the private sector, i think the tenure of the fed and actually communications from the fed will be very different.

right now the fed when janet speaks over the next suck subsequent weeks following the meeting you have big governors rolling back a lot of her testimony. i don't think he will permit that. i think he wants to speak to one voice. cheryl: what about 4 and a half trillion balance sheet, whether janet yellen or gary cohn and how soon do they need to start? >> it looks like they will start in september. i think she will be very cautious and data-xentant as she has said in the past. i think it will be gradual and a little bit at a time and they'll reassess and stop if the economy starts to roll over. lauren: one reason we might not seeing inflation is because the price of oil is so low. yes, it's as 48.16 right now, do

you think it's reciprocal? >> no, it's pretty much a secular issue. we are flooded with oil. even opec, even though they say that they're cutting, in the end they can't really, they really have to fund their social network program. so, no, i don't think it's reciprocal. cheryl: david nelson, thanks for the perspective, we appreciate it. >> thanks for having me. lauren: huge data leaks has exposed millions of verizon records but the company says it's an outside vender that is responsible. cheryl: here we go again, tracee carrasco with the very latest on the story. good morning. >> names, addresses, phone numbers and in some case it is security pins of millions of verizon customers publicly exposed online by one of the company's venders, nice system based in israel, apparently a researcher from software security form up guard that discovered the breach and pulled verizon in late june.

an employee of nightses system put information into a storage cloud area and set storage to allow external access and as many as 14 million customers were found on unsecured storage controlled by nice systems. the number is close to 6 million customers and there's been no loss or theft or verizon customer information. the human error is not related to any of our products or production, environments, nor level of security but rather to an isolated staging area with limited information for a specific project. now, we will see what this does to verizon stoll today. it closed slightly higher yesterday. lauren: as customers information is out there. it really is so vulnerable. what can customers do in this situation? >> verizon is saying that no one had access to the information except for them, their vender

and researcher who found the data breach, but security experts say even so you're still at risk, the main thing to do, i guess, would be to change security password, keep an eye on your account and we will see if verizon has any other advise for customers but i guess that's what you can do in the immediate -- cheryl: whether verizon or netflix account it's all vulnerable. >> exactly, yeah. cheryl: thank you, tracee, great story. we've got a big legal victory for google in europe to tell you about. a french court ruling the company does not have to pay $1.3 billion in back taxes. the issue here to google to avoid taxes in france specifically france by roting sales by ireland, did not have a taxable presence in france and this ruling two weeks after google is hit by the huge record antitrust fine by the european union that was a big story. shares of google's parent

alphabet more than 20% so far this year. lauren: speaking of another popular stock, amazon says t prime day shopping event, biggest in company history running up more sales than the traditional black friday. amazon says sales jumped 60% from last year on this day driven by echo dot speaker, the cheaper one, fire tablets and cippedle devices saw record sales, amazon's prime day is the company's christmas in july because they offer hundreds of thousands of products that discounted prices over a 30-hour period taking a look at shares of amazon, they've rallied 32% so far this year. cheryl: you have to love what people are buying in amazon prime, echo speakers but also batteries. lauren: really? cheryl: amazon batteries. i mean, it's funny that toilet paper, things like that. that's what we saw three years ago and that's what we saw again. i did get beauty products, how about you? >> i didn't even check on amazon to even think about buying.

>> i think so. i think it's a great meeting for both of them. i think that really the only vote of contention is the paris climate accord which they're never going to see eye to eye on. as far as trade, it's not that big of a deficit. the difference between france and the united states on foreign policy or not that great with these two presidents, both of them have a tougher more muscular approach to things and they're both establishing themselves, outsiders who unexpectedly won in office and that gives them something in common despite the age difference. lauren: i'm so glad that you brought that up, paul, they're both outsiders yet macron just early in his -- in his political office has been able to unify the french and very optimistic feelings about him in the country. you're not seeing that here in the u.s. >> no, and i think on your show at least this network during the french elections i talked about the fact that macron has got a

clean sleight, his country won't elect a populist like our country did with donald trump, he's got all the cards in his hand. the french presidency is one of the most powerful elected office in the world. it's almost like a monarch, he has a lot of leeway and he has to establish himself because of his youth and lack of experience and he's seeking to do that and one way to do it to show i can be just as tough with donald trump and i can get along with him. that's a smart way to both operate. there won't be any pretense of global consensus. there will be hard-nose discussions about each nation's interest. cheryl: interest right now is syria and terrorism. nobody knows the effect of terrorism than, of course, france right now. that's a major topic, but are they going to agree since the president just met with vladimir putin and discussed syria as well? >> i think they'll agree on some things and disagree. one of the ways they can agree is that the french president and all french presidents have been willing to act unilaterally

points pretty quickly. it took a while to read the emails and shot back right up and that tells me that this is likely going nowhere, it's not a political operative speaking, it's cold hard cash speaking and informed judgment. that's where it's gone. cheryl: you have to wonder if investors are growing tired of this. every time we continue to talk about collusion which we still have lack of evidence that it truly happened with regards to the campaign, then you've got that delays everything else, that delays health care, tax reform and even the budget. that's the problem, david. >> it certainly is. it certainly was stupid and -- but it's likely not not i -- illegal. right now everybody is looking at what's going to happen with the health care package. that seems delayed. i would have thought that the

services picking up russians talking about trump associates back in 2015 is really not there yet. i mean, there are a number of americans who do business in russia. the trump organization has tried to do business, sold some properties, so it's really not surprising that our intel services would pick up russians talking about trump's people and others. we will see where that goes, at this point i don't think it means anything, what the headlines are still going to be unfortunately because they have other business going on in the world and our economy are donald trump, jr. and that's probably going to grow a bit more. cheryl: that controversy around the president's son continue to hurt the credibility of the white house? >> i think it will and that's because the media attention is going to be so great on it. you know, we have a special counsel, we have congressional committees. i don't think that the media should ignore reporting on this, but a lot of things are happening like the american

president, the french president meeting, tax cuts, health care, all other kinds of things. this will grow because donald trump, jr. was unwise to take that meeting and it is the slow drip of these things that are causing the problems and one needs to see the white house put a stop to the drips and the speculation and put it all in the hands of people who are looking at these things because at the end of the day, whether there was collusion or not, to me that's hard to prove at this point, an unwise meeting doesn't mean you did anything illegal but we don't have evidence that there's connection. lauren: still looking for the crime, if you will. many we are seeing hire lawyers specially for russia meddling investigation, does that create more chaos, they need a lawyer because of something negative? >> sure. it's the world we live in. i don't need to tell you, during the clinton scandals people tall way down to secretaries had to
