tv   Lou Dobbs Tonight  FOX Business  August 3, 2017 4:00am-5:00am EDT

4:00 am
thank you very much. >> lou dobbs is here next on fox business. lou: good evening, president trump today focusing on tip of the spear of the issues that matter most to those who voted for him, those issues, the economy, terrorism and immigration. the president today, throwing his support behind new legislation that addresses all of those issues with rational reform of our immigration system, proposal craft by republican senator tom cotton of arkansas. and david perdue of georgia would make the system based on merit and skills, instead of family connects. >> great to be here today to unveil legislation that would represent most significant reform to our immigration system
4:01 am
in a half century. i campaigned to create a merit-based immigration system, that protects u.s. workers and tax payers, that is why we're here today today, merit-based. >> legislation proposing to slash number of green cards issues by half. from a million to 500,000 a year. and also eliminate diversity visa lottery system, and limit permanent residence status for refugees to 50,000 a year, again a reduction of about a half. as expected, left wing national media reacting with hysteria, and it led to a contentionic change between white house senior policy adviser miller and cnn's acosta. >> this motion of they have to learn english before they get to united states, are we going to bring people from great britain and australia. >> jim, i am shocked at you're
4:02 am
statement, you think that only people from great britain and australia would know english. it is it reveals your cosmopolitan bias to a shocking degree, in your mind. this is an amazing moment, you think only people from great britain and australia would speak english is so insulting to millions of hard working immigrants to speak english all over the world. jim, have you never met an immigrant from another country, outside of great britain and australia, who speak english. it shows your bias. i want to say -- >> like you are trying to engineer the racial ethnic flow of people in to the country. >> that is one of the most out rangrain-- outrageous, insultinn
4:03 am
have you said, the notion you think this is a racist bill is so wrong and so insulting. foreign-born population has quad reucheled this bill allows for immediate nuclear family members to come in as they would do and adds additional points base system. lou: joining me now to discuss the contention in white house briefing room and president's move to put himself in corner of american worker, ed rollins, who served in three presidential administrations, the dean, and rnc national committee man, randy evans. ed, i have seen very few examples of in white house press briefing room of a journalist --
4:04 am
some might quibble with my expression, who just wastude tud by steven miller. >> she is a extraordinary talent in the white house. lou: a world-class mind. >> and certainly a world-class debater, whether you want to have him in press room every day, i don't know. at end of the day he has written some of the most brilliant speeches. he believes -- good thing from my perspective, we have not had a immigration overhaul since the days in reagan white house, this critical. lou: 1986. >> a giant first step, i think it is beginning of a long debate. and important one too. >> i agree. it is about time that in the white house briefing room we had somebody actually confront and take on an absurd statement. and tackle it at its core to,
4:05 am
dismandismantle it piece by pie. who is the one expresses racism and bias. it caught him off guard, it shows what a difference it can make if we have effect of spokespeople in communication room. lou: here is president of united states with senators cotton and perdue, putting pardon a plan for rational merit-based immigration into this country. and presumption on part of that reporter in white house press room, he didn't understand why the plaque was on statue of liberty, yet, he can't quote from it, he wants to hold it up aas a -- template for trump policy, it just, i have to tell
4:06 am
you, sarah deserves all credit in world to put up with -- there was a time, that room was filled with some of the best journalists working in this craft, unfortunately i don't think they can be successfully claimed. >> that was probably in the reagan days too. the issue here, i think is it is what president promised, he has done an extraordinary job of freezing the illegals coming across the border, now we have to have a very purpose discussion about who is here. i had irish grandparents who came here for work. they worked here. this is important. lou: there is a specific disconnect amongst national left wing media and the truth. when they inmate or say it
4:07 am
straight out we're a racist country. steven miller coins out number of foreign-born citizens has quadrupled in last 4 decades, that is remarkable. a country that no two countries can come close or three even. in our welcoming immigration policy and the way we have reached out to world. >> history and facts don't matter to media,. they have an agenda. but i want to note one thing, not to overlook the optics of senator cotton from louisiana and perdue from georgia, two senators taking a position a bill with agricultural interest in their home state, can'ting that thrilled with, they do it because it is the right thing to do. they both made it clear, when they ran lou -- lou: louisiana would be flattered. they ul onwould be flattered.
4:08 am
>> i am sorry. arkansas. but you had two rural states, with heavy agricultural influences who senators in past have been largely opponents to reform, standing there with president saying this best for america. >> and that is what this dodge administration is putting forward, and people who matter most. that is the middle class of this country, and those who aspire and work hard day in and day out to be part of that middle class. those are the people where the american dream resides, for whom, it is a found -- foundation. >> we're not eliminating american dream, we're making it more achievable. they said it. not you.
4:09 am
>> i do think it is a reflecttion of president's america of americ -- it is basen ameritocricy. you are willing to impose our values, those issues that unite us, the willingness to be great again. lou: talking about winning again. this president right now, besieged by special counsel thanks to speaker ryan, and mitch mcconnell and the establishment of the republican party. as well as the democrats and the deep state, he is confronting this assault every day, and now, mueller comes with another attorney, another attorney just happens to be 16th as he expands special counsel after achieving nothing, finding nothing. and brings in an obama
4:10 am
department of justice official. >> bottom line, in month of august to clean things up, finish white house restaffing, determine what he is doing with just expis mov isjustice and mos say restart. lou: for whom. >> the president and this administration. lou: i suggest a restart for this speaker of the house, and for this leader of the senate. that is they get off their tails and end their relationship with kstreet and the deep state, and the billionaire don't a donor class, and support this president, and shove this up nose of those who would like too subvert the will of the people and replace this president. >> the appointment of special counsel does not elect nate elie oversight responsibility. we see him creating a shadow
4:11 am
government, with aim of trying to find something, anything to derail the president, who is on a role, record stock market, record economy growth, enthusiasm up, what do they do? they go to the lawyers. to your point, very first show, you said, somehow it is always the lawyers. lou: randy is one of the leading lawyers. >> you should hear when he says about you. >> he heard a few. >> you are right about mueller, i am very concerned that congress -- i hear lindsey graham say, if you were to fire mueller or take action against sessions. lou: tell me why anyone listens to a da damn word that lindsey graham says, what has he ever done. he has been at public trough for his whole life. >> if congress is not having
4:12 am
oversight responsibility, who will? that is the embodiment. lou: how about richard burr of north carolina. chair -- i mean it, it pathetic what we're watching. >> very pathetic and president is still moving his agenda for the, most important thing get that tax bill done, the rest side bar, get the economy going stronger. lou: i would say, so long as there is a special counsel, that is committed to the destruction of this presidency, everything else is a side bar this has to be act has to be taken. by republican party and republican leaders in both houses, or hell will be paid. randy great to have you hire, h, ed, thank you. >> thank you. lou: we're coming right back there is a lot more to cover. >> left wing national media refuses to cover hillary clinton and the deep state's trail of
4:13 am
corruption. >> media has gone to shambles they would rather focus on russia and focus on the nonsense stories than real news that people care about, that is sad. lou: fox's greg jarrett will join me next, said it is time for a second special counsel. >> a show of force, with latest on north korea nuclear threat next, stay with potsch: you each drive a ford pickup, right? (in unison) russ, leland, gary: yes. gary: i have a ford f-150. michael: i've always been a ford guy. potsch: then i have a real treat for you today. michael: awesome. potsch: i'm going to show you a next generation pickup. michael: let's do this. potsch: this new truck now has a cornerstep built right into the bumper. gary: super cool. potsch: the bed is made of high-strength steel, which is less susceptible to punctures than aluminum. jim: aluminum is great for a lot of things, but maybe not the bed of a truck. potsch: and best of all, this new truck is actually- gary: (all laughing) oh my... potsch: the current chevy silverado. gary: i'm speechless. gary: this puts my ford truck to shame. james: i'll tell you, i might be a chevy guy now. media and the world. my next guest, joining call for a second special counsel to investigate clinton collusion. joining me now, greg jarrett. gate to have you here. let's start with special counsel. this is for dems only. >> yeah it is. and now it is imbe imembarrassig such a partisan parade, an absurd charade, all fairness and impartiality has been topped out the door, now a mantra of let's get trump, the law be damned. if anybody ever questioned parialty of robert mueller now this should put it to rest. lou: how can he think he can get away with this. >> because congress and president were slow to react, i wrote a column the day after the mueller was appointed, i said are you kidding me. look at statute.
4:19 am
said he shall not serve if he has a personal relationship with someone involved in the case, that is james comey. they are partners, friends and allies. lou: i remember that. it is -- you said, on its face the conflicts. they are present. they are right there for all to see. why has there been no reaction? not from anyone. >> they are lacking forsythe and intelligence, many of them, and finally now, the attention of members of house judiciary committee. who has been reading my columns, he has come out publicly said, robert mueller must step down. and you know, i don't argue that there should not be a special counsel, i argue that robert mule sermueller is wrong person.
4:20 am
lou: i argue, if you can't come up with an ounce of evidence at this time, what in the hell are we doing. >> fbi has been investigating for over a year so, far there appears to be no president. lou: as what point does reason prevail and the swamp weasels in congress say enough? >> they should. and maybe they will. finally. there should be a special prosecutor however to investigate hillary clinton, james comey, loretta lynch, samantha power, the list goes on and on. they demand a second special prosecutor in particular to go after hillary clinton, there is a plethora of evidence. lou: are you just saying that because of evidence. >> evidence and the law. they intersect with hillary clinton. and i think it would not be
4:21 am
difficult for a reason able prosecutor to bring a case against hillary clinton. you remember, that is what james comey said he laid out a case how she violated the espionage act, i dare say every prosecutor in america would have been happy to bring that kind of a case with so much evidence. lou: i can't it will yo i can'tn i hear, don't bother hillary, that is over. in rearview mirror, i say, no, this is forefront of the republican party. it should be right in their cross hairs, they should be looking at the windshield at hillary clinton to investigate. >> washington post wrote a story, said it would be unheard of and astounding for a former their political rival to be investigateed and if warranted

prosecuted, really, so i can go rob a bank tomorrow announce my candidacy for presidency, upon losing a get a get out of jail free card. i am exempt from the law, i call this the hillary exclusion, a new concept in law this has been plucked out of thin air. lou: or jarrett loophole, thank you. >> thank you. lou: do you support president's stidecision to base our immigran system on merit, cast your vote on twitter at lou dobbs, horseheadswivellychair.com it could be the next big thing i should totally get that domain name... get your great idea online too... get your domain today, and get... ...a free trial of gocentral from godaddy

lou: the russian prime minister dmitry medvedev says the u.s. sanctions amount to a trade war. if it were a trade war moscow should be very concerned indeed. the united states is russia's largest trade partner. russia is the 30th largest trade partner for the united states. retired four star general jack keane. great to have you with us,
4:34 am
general. choosing it seems to me a peculiar way to express concerns about the sanctions, calling it a trade war. >> clearly what the trump administration has done indeed is changed the relationship between the united states and russia from one of essentially a combining is when obama is doing with them as they annexed crimea and moved into syria, bombing the syrian moderate and we did nothing about it. this is a policy of confrontation based on good evidence in terms of what russia is clearly up to obviously to include iran and north korea as well. >> as we look at all that is going on with north korea and
4:35 am
their intent to continue testing icbms and testing nuclear weapons, this has to end somewhere, and right now it doesn't look like it will end well, particularly for the north koreans. >> north korea made the calculation that they have to have nuclear-tipped icbms to put the american people at risk to deter the united states from ever conducting a regime change in north korea. that's a departure from the past where it was understood having weaponed point at south korea would be enough deterrence. the on thered calculation they make that is interesting also. they are saying that any preemptive attack or military action taken by the united states against any capability north korea has is an act of war and they would release all the
4:36 am
military capability they have on south korea. that checkmates the united states and the united states will essentially accept nuclear-tipped icbms. the problem with that calculation is they are dealing with a trump administration that is totally different than their predecessors and they may be making a miscalculation. lou: we go back to 1957 to the era of mutual assured destruction. now it's draw a line, if you will, a red line, but there has to be some way to stop that. obviously it's unacceptable to put any u.s. citizen in harm's way when it comes to kim jong-un. >> i totally agree with that assessment. the trump administration despite
4:37 am
the rhetoric will still work with china and put sanctions on china more than what they have done in the past. and i think the president is close to making a decision on this. they will continue to increase that pressure and leverage. obviously they have to put it on fast forward because literally the clock is running out as we had frustrated leaks out of the intelligence service and how close north korea is to a nuclear-tipped icbm. lou: the policy followed to this point by the obama administration in particular and the first six months of this administration, the idea that these people can get this ready in the next year, that is an icbm capable of delivering a north korean warhead to a u.s. target is deeply troubling. everything the american people were told until a couple months ago is it was a far broader and
4:38 am
longer horizon. >> several years in most of cases and some other two to three years. now we are told next year if we accept the credibility of what the media is saying based on a leaking source. i can't shed any light on that because i don't talk classified information with anybody in the government, and i think that's the way it should be. lou: general, i'll take your assessment every time. when you hold forth, you bring intelligence to the conversation, no matter what. we appreciate it as always. thanks so much, general. be sure to vote in our poll tonight. the question is, do you support the president's decision to base our immigration system on merit and reduce the issue of green cards by half. cast your vote on twitter @loudobbs.

lou: president trump touting the incredible economic performance of the economy since he became president. >> the stock market hit an all-time record high today over 22,000. we picked up substantially $4 trillion in net worth in terms of our country, our stocks, our companies. we have a growth rate, a gdp that has bench higher than anybody anticipated. jobs are pouring back into the country. factories and plants are coming back into the country. we are going to start making product in the country again. lou: i love the way he looked to his left and right about the growth rate. the obama administration and their clever economists saying we are going to have to get used to the new normal of 1%.
4:45 am
that obviously has been put to the lie by his presidency within the first 6 months of taking office. my next guest says the economy has turned around and donald trump should get the credit. joining me is historian and economist doug wead. i love the president looking again, a lot better than anything obama ever saw. >> it's so funny. you remember on election night when the stock market started tanking and everybody was saying, see, see, this is a bad president. look at this. lou: you know how many weeks it took for the business press in this country to get over themselves? they wouldn't pay attention to the indexes. that's when we knew there would be a problem with the national

left-wing media. >> the first 10 so days compared to obama you give trump a $4 billion edge in businesses investments and jobs. i'm an ordinary person, and the value of my house has increased. now i can sell my house if i want to, and they had wiped the value out for the middle class. finally the poor are getting something as well it's exciting to see this whole thing turn around. lou: from the election night forward we are talking almost 20% on the dow jones industrials. we are looking at a high close today. $trillion in market cap. it's added here it's stunning. and over a million jobs. and it just keeps going. you can see some of the left's snark about investment in this

country, foreign investment and bringing jobs back. hell, yes, he's bringing jabs back and he's bringing plants back and producers. and i truly believe in some order of the next year he's going to repatriate capital from u.s. multi-nationals who socked all that money away overseas rather than putting it to work in the home economy. >> senior citizens look at their 401ks. what a change? lou: these attacks that have been unrelenting on the president, they sort of abated this week after the appointment of general john kelly to be his chief of staff. that seems to be at least in its early -- i acknowledge -- but that seems to be a seminal moment for this presidency.
4:48 am
it seems to have made a profound change in the tone of the -- if you will, the atmospherics of the white house itself. >> it does. i see something rather ominous in that that i haven't heard anybody else talk about. i had the privilege of work under james barrack and john sununu and andy card, leon anetta i didn't work under. but all these great chiefs of staff necessity history are great politicians. reince priebus was a great politician. he was with trump for a year, not six months. he was with him a year ago when they looked in florida and they had one office open to hillary clinton's 51. and he turned it around and trump won the election. that said, trump brought in a general as his chief of staff. that tells me trump realizes his
4:49 am
presidency will be judged not just by healthcare or tax reform but by what naps north korea. i see something happening with kelly in that position. lou: i just think it's much broader. john kelly brings a certain left and gravitas to the office and a highly developed sense as everyone acknowledges discipline being a four-star marine general, discipline would be in his dna. but i think the man is a pretty good politician to get to where he is, and frankly the politics he had to contend with is some of the best and brightest in the officer corps. i think the competition is significantly more daunting in the u.s. military amongst the
4:50 am
officer corps than it is opposite capitol hill. do you think i'm short changing tap hill? >> i agree, you can't get to the top of the military without political skills. it's helping bills through congress that them reach out for help. the president need discipline and i think more is going on. lou: i think the president needs that structure because it's a very, as you well know, better than i, it is a huge complicated staff that has to be managed. >> it's a snake pit. that's what i have been told. they said you are going into a snake pit. i said okay. lou: they were just talking about the snake pit. the snake pit rested on a swamp. thanks for being with us. >> thanks very much. lou: up next speaker paul ryan
