the owned russian companies. cheryl: that rally taking place hours after a wall street journal report that special counsel robert mueller has convened a grand jury to meddling. lauren: donald trump, jr. and other campaign officials had last year with russian lawyer. more on news of that grand jury right now from blake berman. blake: president trump's legal team says they did not have a heads up that according to several report robert mueller has impaneled a grand jury and they say that's not unusual. president trump's counsel inside the white house saying in a statement thursday, grand jury matters are typically secret, the white house favors anything that accelerates the conclusion of his work fairly. the white house is committed to fully cooperating with mr. mueller. jake sekalow spoke with neil

senator lindsey graham the leaks are not fair to president trump. >> the person who did this may think they have a noble outcome in mind but that is just chaos. you just can't have people in the government working for the president picking and choosing what -- what to leak, that's just wrong and i hope we find out who the person is and they get punished. cheryl: sessions have come under fire for not being tougher on the leaks from the intelligence agencies. lauren: labor department to release job's report this morning. analysts expected 183 jobs added last month. unemployment that's expect today go down all the way down to 4.3%, 16-year low and average hourly earnings have gone up three tenths of 1%. strong pace of hiring could clear the way of federal reserve

where are we at? >> yeah, federal grand jury is 23 people that hear testimony and the fact is this is normal and actually i expect that this would have been done much sooner. mueller was appointed on may 17th which is almost three months ago and is quite surprising to me that he didn't have this pool up to this date because it's a powerful tool, it's a critical tool, number one tool for the tool box. lauren: right. kristin, president trump's lawyer we look forward to cooperating, we hope this will accelerate the investigation. he didn't call for mueller's firing or even call the investigation a political witch hunt. this is a change of tone, why do you think it is? >> obviously this is coming from the president's lawyer not necessarily donald trump himself who might say something different on twitter. we are not sure about that yet. it definitely is. i think they are doing a good

job and making a good shift in tone if that is, indeed, what it is because president trump has to retain a lot of his political capital in order to get the rest of his agenda through congress, obviously we have tax reform that's highly anticipated, also this comes on the eve of him signing the sanction's bill with russia and going back and saying, he wasn't very happy about it. he has to make sure and be very aware of the political optics here and the whole administration is trying to make sure that they appear, they are trying to let this go independently as possible. lauren: david, i'm curious on how wide sprayed the investigation. president trump's lawyer has no reason to believe trump is under investigation, doesn't move they are looking at everything and anything, personal tax records, business dealings, should trump and legal team be worried? >> it seems like it is a wide investigation. the order itself that gave him

this power gave him the power to investigate any links or coordinations between russian government and individuals associated with the campaign. that's the start. i think there are report that is there's been subpoenas related to jr. meeting and when we talk about subpoenas, that is what subpoenas are for, use today get records including financial records. lauren: right, kristin, how widespread do you think this investigation is at this point? >> well, we don't know what we don't know, right, and so much of the investigation is secret and remains secret because that's -- specially now that he's impaneling the grand jury. that's the nature of the grand jury. it's secretive. what is really interest asking to see the senate's response, four senators both republicans an democrats right now who have convened legislation to make sure robert mueller is able to be as independent as possible introducing some legislation that says that the president can't necessarily just fire

mueller without cause, so that is interesting to see some of the politics play out in the hill around this. but i think that the administration is doing the right thing and keeping hands off approach and we should be thankful that we have a system of law that goes after these things and make sure that russia is not improperly, you know, negatively affecting our election. lauren: it's been a bipartisan effort in congress to make sure that this investigation can go further which might explain some of the change of tone we were talking a little bit earlier. i want to talk, david, about the legal team of mueller here. 16 members or most or half of them made political donations to democrats including hillary clinton as well as obama. what do you make of that? is there conflicts of interest here? >> well, that's certainly an argument to be made but these attorneys are members of the bar, they are objective, they are supposed to be objective and i hope they will be objective. one last point as we are winding down, donald trump himself could

>> good morning, cheryl. cheryl: we were talking about wages earlier this week. paychecks seem to be getting bigger for workers. is wages the real story today? >> i think so. i think the fed has been somewhat in a box hire. they've been raising rates and soon going to be reducing a balance sheet and the reason they do that is they want to choke off inflation. not only will wages be looked at from the and the point of workers looking for faster growth and wages but the fed also wants to maybe see even a little bit of wage inflation in the report today as well. cheryl: because they keep predicting that inflation and we haven't seen it yet. let's talk about the number itself, 180,000 jobs expected, you know, it's not 200,000 jobs, that's kind of where we were before the recession, how far away are we from getting to those types of numbers, that's the real economy, if you will? >> the fed has said that the

first -- the first part of the year really was temporary and i will take them at their word. hopefully we do start to see the numbers get closer to the 200,000 mark and 180,000, it's somewhat close but yeah, we would like to see more robustness there. cheryl: is there a real story with the jobless picture and basically low unemployment rate, we talk about the labor participation rate which is still remained relatively high and that's kind of been the negative story to the job's report that we have seen over the last years since the recession. the participation rate, is that the story today as well that we have to look at? >> yeah, i think i certainly think so. hopefully these discouraged workers that have been out of the workplace for the last several years as the rate

continues to go down that will draw more people into the employment market. cheryl: what about the manufacturing sector, rob, we brought viewers, toyota mazda expecting to announce investment, new plant, talk of apple maybe bringing new plants to the u.s. manufacturing, this is what president trump promised on the campaign trail. is this the reality? >> yeah, i think, you know, this is all -- this is all very encouraging news. certainly, you know, i mention before workers want to see wage inflation, so does the fed. employers don't want to see it, though, they are certainly hoping that wage inflation stays in check but i think on the manufacturing front the news is starting to look somewhat positive. cheryl: we hope so. rob morgan, thank you, rob. >> thanks, cheryl. lauren: most important report of the month.

report, this is not only post read on the biggest economy in the world but really critical for the direction of the dollar which is played a key role in the movement of european stocks and japanese stocks lately. cheryl: talk about the action in europe right now. what are they going to be looking for in u.s. job's report. >> i think the average hourly earnings is going to be critical because that's the number that the fed needs to see, they need to get the go ahead on wage growth and inflation before they can start their balance sheet unwind and potentially raise rates later this year and that's going to be absolutely critical for the dollar, the dollar has been going no where but down lately. people are watch if the euro can get the 120 mark right now. that's played a huge role in how people think about european stocks, japanese stocks, if you get a weak figure, it could mean a downward leg for currency that's already under a lot of pressure this year. lauren: strong pound is impacting the ftse and the other markets there, right?
