today. a live report from janice dean as we continue to monitor hurricane maria. cheryl: make schwarz join us on the phone. good to see you. you're here in new york, correct? being that correct. lauren: can you describe plans and efforts using to help people in puerto rico? >> absolutely. salvation army is different in that the footprint allows a fur community centers in puerto rico and the virgin islands to have resource materials and staff in place. well before the storm we were able to get supplies in preemptively before the storm when hurricane firm had it and now hurricane maria. the salvation army does have across puerto rico seven

locations already stocked and staffed, ready to go. st. thomas we have a team in place they are at locations with the impact from hurricane irma and will be transitioning to begin providing resources they are. st. croix in st. john, things are in place. cheryl: without power, are you able to communicate with anyone in puerto rico? >> so, not just the issue of there being no power. most places, the telephone networks are down. the internet is obviously down. a lot of our communications have either been through text messaging or using part of the salvation army has ham radio operator volunteers that we can utilize to communicate with the people on the island. communications has been a

challenge, but we been able to make contact with all of our staff. lauren: including the southeastern part of the country. i say that because they have a direct hit and it's difficult to get direct contact with the southeast. >> yes, when utilizing amateur radio or ham radio, they are able to somehow pull for battery-operated systems, stuff like that. we've been able to get reports off the island but the damage is and that people are safe in those types of things. obviously, with power being out completely across puerto rico and pretty much st. thomas, st. croix in st. john are also without power. we are having to go with old-school ways of communicating, which ham radio is a sure way to radio. cheryl: we appreciate your

the commissioner result in systematic risk. cheryl: from that bridge to another one, let's talk about equifax. they were -- train forward this story keeps on going. some sort of security incident at the three knights, but we didn't know if it was related to the big one. the cybersecurity firm hired to investigate says yes they were related. here's the timeline. investigators say the hackers first interaction with the company occurred on march 10th equifax disclosed he did and discovered the breach until july 29th and of course we know it didn't disclose to the public until september 7th. the fbi investigating. lauren: hackers were there undetected for four months. what's going on with the apple watch? >> there's already an issue with the apple watch before it even hits the shelves.

this really gives power to the states, patrice. some senators still not committing, in particular lisa murkowski. does this thing have a shot? >> i think it does. make their health care decisions. more equitable which means states like california and health care spending don't get to dominate federal dollars. it is great for states to craft a plan good for citizens. they know what's best for people in their constituency. >> president trump was coming down was coming out and saying he is putting the pressure on rand paul appeared rand paul not behind this. he's saying basically rand paul is a friend of mine. as a negative force when it comes to fixing health care. president going after rand paul

as well as republican senators. is that the right strategy? >> i don't know. i can tell you this is a last-minute political hail mary by the republican party counting this as an attempt to repeal and replace obamacare. this really says it repeals and displaces millions of people on health care in this country. let's be honest. this is not good for her country. this is what i would call disaster care. millions of people whose health care coverage. medicaid as we know it would essentially come to an end. more and more seniors would be without health care and this would be a disaster for markets as a whole and particularly for states have expanded medicaid. that's why you see gop governors come out against this plan so far and will continue to see more gop senators come out against it. >> that factually untrue. you've got over two dozen gop

governors saying we actually support this bill. in arizona, governor ducey came out and said this is a good plan to repeal upon the care and give it back control. i think that's important because senators on the line need to know their governors are behind them and behind this effort. they are administering the program. >> you've also had a number of gop governors who signed a letter with governor terry mcauliffe, head of the national governors association saying this is not good and health care organizations like aarp and hospital organizations who said this is not good for every day middle-class american families. train to patrice coming to patrice coming here is where i think the gop will have a problem with the preexisting conditions. a hot button topic. jimmy kimmel has been on television for the last two nights. this is key.

cheryl: hurricane barrier regaining strength overnight to a cat three storm. janice dean has been tracking. trent high, ladies. unfortunately come the devastation against the u.s. virgin islands, british islands in puerto rico with only 3 million people without power. 135 miles per hour, the storm has now moved into warmer waters. he was distracted by the monotonous terrain across puerto rico. the two feet of rainfall has devastated the area and now we start to see the tide began to reform. strengthening its anticipated.

if there is any good news, it looks like the track brings this east of turks and caicos as well as bahamas and perhaps east of the u.s. coasts. so that would be good news. now we will still remain tracking strands over the next couple days. the cone of uncertainty goes between bermuda and the outer banks here, which would be great news. will be weakening. it depends on the steering currents, but the model this morning are showing a nice trend of remaining offshore, which would be wonderful news, but of course we have to continue to monitor it. as we go further in time monday and tuesday, both of these agree every manufacturer. i would tell everyone across the east coast in the mid-atlantic to the northeast to watch maria. we are still watching tropical storm josé 60 per mile power
