energy on brutal primary fights. democrats may be bad pat politics. they ain't that bad. kennedy: they tends to fall into lock step. so they are having their own problems with nancy pelosi and dianne feinstein. they are both facing challenges from within the party. if the republicans can shut up and get a few things done they will be fine. but they can't get out of their own way. both parties are make it easy for the other. my question is who is going to provide the pry miry challenges? chris: there is always somebody, some state senator, some talk radio show host. there is always somebody in each of these states who says let it be me and let the civil war begin with me. as we saw? in 2012 and 2010, there is no shortage of those individuals

available. in 2014, the republicans were good at clamping down on this stuff. they managed to get a pretty clear needle their primary and managed to do well in the 2014 election. if they reverse course and have bad primary and rough candidates going into the 018 mid-terms. it will not be good. kennedy: maybe steve bannon and some of its millionaire backers can fund the primaries. one of the people they are leaving out of the fray is ted cruz, who is also the beneficiary of political infighting in his state. chris: the mercer family family, the breitbart website bannon

runs, they are all on the same team. the question for republicans is can they tolerate each other enough to govern or would they rather just be in the minority? i can tell you this, they are overlearning the lessons of that alabama primary. the state looks a lot more like ohio where republicans would love to pick off sherrod brunt incumbent candidate. kennedy: calling yourself the same name doesn't mean you are part of the same party ideologically. that's one of the biggest problems. what it means to be a republican is very different to a ma joat a majority of those senators and steve bannon. it looks like steve bannon is basically blowing the place up because he wants to build a brand-new house. chris: you have to make sure you

have enough carpenters to finish that work. there is no sign the republican party by and large is ready to leave its basic model to trade it in for this more populist nationalist party. kennedy: stick with small government it's what they do best. very good. president trump and senate majority leader mitch mcconnell, they have a love-hate relationship and they have since the president took office. but after lunch at the white house the president said the two leaders are now best friends. >> we are probably now, despite what we read, as far as i'm concerned we are closer than ever before. the relationship is very good. we are fighting for the same thing. we are fighting for lower taxes, big tax cuts. the biggest tax cuts in the history of our nation. kennedy: i think i saw mitch
