cheryl: adam shapiro has more on the senate's tax bill from washington. adam: good morning, now that the house ways means committee has passed out of committee, house is expected to vote on measure next week and the senate finance committee expect today mark-up their version of tax bill as well. here is what they are proposing, 7 tax brackets. house version only had four, the senate seven and there's a difference in the highest tax bracket. both measures would reduce the corporate tax rate down to 20% but the senate version would delay that 20% rate for one year. also the more -- mortgage interest deduction, the senate version would maintain the current interest deduction on mortgages up to a million

>> yes, he could absolutely. current u.s. senator now and would be possible for him to mount a write-in campaign and the chances are much greater that the republicans would be successful in alabama if this were the case. issue now is that roy moore is denying credible reports not just from one woman but three additional women, they don't have anything that they are looking for. they were sought out by the postand they said, we've said enough and we don't need to do anything more. i think they are very credible. lauren: the challenge for the republican party right now is they don't want to lose any seats in mid-term elections and there are seats up for grab, arizona, nevada and now potentially alabama too. what does this do to the trump agenda specifically tax reform? >> i think that on tax reform the issue is difficult already and if they're not going to make progress this year it's going to be hard for them to make progress moving forward specially if there's an

opportunity for democrats to take some of the seats that you're talking about. the reality is that tax reform right now is very flawed both on the house side, the senate side slightly better, but we've got two core constituencies of the gop who are effectively forgotten by the proposals that are now in the republican house and senate, number one fiscal conservative who is are concerns about debt and deficit and don't want to see $1.5 trillion debt by the tax cuts and furthermore, small business owners like me who provide professional services on the one side will take a major tax increase and on the other hand we will see none of the benefits, big misses under senate proposal. republicans are pretty poor off as it relates to tax reform already unfortunately. lauren: i believe you said you were more favorable about the senate plan, did i get that right? >> the senate plan doesn't actually increase taxes as much on the small business owners as the house plan because it actually has more tax brackets instead of raising working

year deferral. cheryl: a lot of discussions about state and local deductions, the penalties for obamacare, so many things that have been taken in and out, you have house and senate. if you're a business owner, if you're a leader, howie: do you try to structure 2018 when you have so much uncertainty and what tax reform is going to ultimately look like. >> great question, status quo is the answer. if you're running the business and you don't know if it's going to happen or not, you can't make investment decisions, one of the things that's part of the plan that's really very catalitic to grow the economy, expand as you, if you're a business and want to make expense, you are obviously not going to do it. business owners want certainty and right now we have a lot of uncertainty. cheryl: i want you to listen to what chuck schumer said about conversations in washington. listen to what he said, mitch.

>> senate republicans telling house republican that is they'll be no compromises on state and local deductibles. it's full repeal or bust because senate republicans need the revenue raised by ending this popular middle-class deduction. cheryl: what does that mean, mitch? >> you know what it means, i'm going to pull out a prop. [laughter] cheryl: good. >> if you want to make it simple, you to take -- 30% of filers take advantage of the state and local deduction but if you raise that standard deduction to the 24,000 level that you have, 90 person of americans take advantage of it and they literally can use the postcard. it's a highly-political thing. much bigger issue in the house than the senate. they are assuming that those senators from high-taxed states aren't going to vote for it anyway. but in the house it's going to be be a bit of an issue. that's why all the focus is going to be on the senate tax

9/11 do you find that corporations are saying, is this the right way to spend the money? sometimes there's charity fatigue if if you will? >> sure. everybody has their own stance on it, we stick true to what we believe in through our patriot charity initiative from leadership all the way down we have veterans in leadership and regardless of what other companies are doing, we think it's important to, again, give back to those who have given so much to us. cheryl: zach, real quick, what does veterans day mean to you? >> this time of year is always a time of reflection, a time when a lot of us from the battalion, a time not just because of veterans day but because of that time that we tend to speak more, you get back in touch, there's reunions both in perp and -- person and online and a time to
