crowds in dc from i think to this. the book is out. white house tell-all on store shelves, came out four days early. they lined up overnight to get hands on fire and fury as the white house is striking back saying it's full of lies. lauren: griff jenkins with the very latest. griff, have you seen the book yet? >> good morning, lauren and cheryl. maybe distancing themselves from him and finally, bannon himself maybe considered legal action against the president for defamation. so this little book has been quite a stir here in the nation's capital. [laughter] lauren: as michael wolff runs to the bank and see it is proceeds come in, griff jenkins, thank you for that. cheryl: staying on the story, steve bannon says chairman of breitbart news maybe numbered following escalating fight with president trump. the wall street journal reporting that the company's owners were weighing the move to oust bannon after release of michael wolff's book. >> should breitbart part ways with steve bannon after the comments of the book? >> i certainly think that it's something that they should look at and considered. cheryl: journal say that is two of bannon long-time supporters,

billionaire mercer and rebecca mercer have been distancing themselves from him. another point in the briefing, so many inaccuracies, you google search, you could have found that and the fact that he didn't know who john boehner was and there were pictures playing golf together. lauren: this could actually help donald trump prove that sometimes the media is dead wrong, we will discuss in just a bit. let's get to the weather, again, first we had the snow and now the deep freeze, one-two punch, brutal wave of cold air moves in, powerful system leaving millions of americans paralyzed with heavy snow, high winds, coastal flooding, some without power, the violent storm blamed for at least four deaths, massachusetts governor is out with a warning for what's to come. >> the snow will taper off soon,

but we are urging the public to remember that we are going through a significant winter weather event and frigid temperatures will move in overnight. the temperatures are forecast today drop quickly posing a threat for flash freezes. cheryl: we should add that windchills forecast to drop minus 40-degrees this weekend. this storm also recking havoc at the airports. this promises to be another tough day for flying without 14 flights already canceled today but you can expect a lot more flights to be canceled as well. fox meteorologist janice dean is going to have latest forecast coming up later on in the show. lauren: first friday of the new year, the final job's report of last year is due out this morning, this is what economists are expecting, employers added about 190,000 jobs in december, unemployment rate expect today hold steady at 4.1%, catch full

coverage and announcements with maria bartiromo for job america's special. cheryl: apple fixing a flaw that could make your phone vulnerable to hackers. lauren: tracee more on that. they have a fix, tracee. tracee: they will very soon. it will release a patch for safari website after major chip makers disclosed flaws that made every device vulnerable to hackers. alphabet google and other researchers disclosed two major chip flaws affecting all computer chips made in the last decade. one is called meltdown affecting only intel chips which are found in most pc's and the other called specter affecting apple devices. every software company has been pushing out updates to fix the problem, make sure you allow computers and phone to automatically install software and updates and patches that are

released. >> let's talk about uber. travis kalanick in the news again. tracee: plans to sell 25% to have shares in uber, company he cofounded as part of the investment deal with softbank, bit of a surprise move because call -- kalanick would not sell shares of uber. but it's still a huge premium for early investors and employees like kalanick. lauren: i wonder why he changed his mind on that. new year's resolutions, did you make one? tracee: i have the same one every year. to drink more water, work out more, to read more, things like that. lauren: if only we could have a new year's resolution like mark

zuckerberg. tracee: his is very ambitious. he wants to fix facebook this year. zuckerberg said facebook has made, quote, too many errorses enforcing policies and preventing misuse of our tools over the past year, facebook has been blasted for allowing objectionable content, fake news articles, zuckerberg didn't say exactly how he would achieve this goal, however, he mentioned, quote, bringing groups of expert together to help and discuss work through topics, civics, political, philosophy, media, government and, of course, technology. cheryl: i thought you were going to say that zuckerberg was going to make a run for office. tracee: they thought that last year was resolution was to get out and meet people. lauren: in every state. he's still young. tracee: there's always next year. cheryl: thank you very much, we

this book with a grain of salt having looked into wolff's prior history, i think a lot of this may be gossip. you know, americans, we love drama, we can't deny it. we can't get enough of it. this book provides it in spades, whether or not any of it should be taken as truth, i just don't know. some of it sounded so ridiculous and far-fetched. lauren: this is my favorite part, donald trump eats mcdonalds because he fears being poisoned. who cares? these are fabric cases that might or might not be in it. patrice, is there anything new in the book? we know he's obsessed with criticism about him. is there anything new in the book? >> i don't think there is.

it's interesting if any private conversations are true to really hear how people were talking in the inner circle of the trump campaign and the early white house, you know, how think were talking about the president but at the end of the day when we look at where we are as a nation and our economy is, even if there were bumps early on in a road, we are in a great place right now, kudos for the president to getting us where we are. lauren: could you make the argument and would you make the argument, robin that we are in a better place right now because steve bannon is not in the white house and he might have appealed more to the donald trump and now the president is more reigned

in. >> i actually a agree with pundits that he's in it for himself. i'm concerned that he hasn't denounced some of this. i think that's telling. i know that the mercer family is considering cutting ties with him. that's telling also. but i think that donald trump is better off without sort of a loose cannon and that donald trump called him sloppy steve, that's one of the few disparaging remarks i actually attend to agree with the president on as far as that goes. lauren: yet, patrice, steve bannon says he's still 100% behind the trump agenda and donald trump is, quote, a great man. >> he has to stay that. he wrote president trump's tails into office and public limelight. steve bannon owes the president a lot. i think this is a good divistings, do americans who support it and put president trump in office, do they do it because of bannon, do they do it because they believe the trump

agenda? i think there's a strong disdistinction being drawn here, steve bannon is realizing it wasn't him, it was what president trump had to offer to the american people. lauren: are either one of you getting this book? >> it is not. lauren: robin, what about you. >> i think it might be really good to line the litter box with. [laughter] lauren: yeah, you know, the stories that we have seen from washington, d.c. this year, they just get better and better and kind of just all came together with this, sarah sanders said this full of tabloid gossip book, we have a more disciplined, robin, donald trump and he did that without steve bannon. >> yes, i hope, i know he's upset, he wanted to stop the release of this book but we have some serious business at hand. we've got to raise the debt sealing, we had the bipartisan

of her roof and over the water to safety. firefighters telling local media they were swamped with calls yesterday from help from residents that were trapped either in vehicles or in their homes during peak hours of yesterday's storms. lauren: good story to tell, rescue, man, major winter storm continues to slam parts of new england with heavy snow, high winds. cheryl: janice dean with the latest forecast. janice: i'm happy to be inside. look at the snow totals, impressive, dynamic storm system, one of the strongest we have tracked in the atlantic in some time and it just dumps snow across the northeast and massachusetts over a foot, even 19-inches, new jersey, 17-inches, parts of new york and connecticut, over a foot and long island we have a foot as well as my husband can attest to that, doing shoveling. here is the past 36 hours, the storm is out of here up towards

♪ lauren: friday january 5th and just about 5:31 in the morning. good morning, i'm lauren simonetti. cheryl: good morning, cheryl casone, morning after on fbn:am. lauren: morning after winter storm and that's the breaking news that people, you know, making it back to work today, we are also talking about the political storm after the publisher of a book that attacks the first year of the trump white house moved up the release. it went on sale overnight, this defying the white house's efforts to block the book. the white house striking badge saying the tell-all is full of lies. >> i'm less concerned with my exhaustion as i am with the people of this country. i don't really think they care about so much trash that an author that no one had ever heard of until today or a fired employee wants to pedal. lauren: well, sanders referring to michael wolff who wrote the book and former white house chief strategists steve bannon who criticizes trump family

winter olympics in february in south korea. north korea accepted seoul's offer to hold the talk in border town, the two sides also discussing, hopefully ways to improve their relationship. the announcement coming shortly after president trump and south south korea's president trump both release today delay military xeshzs until after the winter games. cheryl: well, only a few buyers are still in the running to buy a harvey weinstein production company, one of them close to a deal. lauren: and the price tag is interesting, tracee carrasco joins us on that and other headlines making news. tracee: weinstein company is close to a deal, now it could come less than $500 million, this is what the wall street journal is reporting and it would cost shareholders to lose all of their equity if it does sell for something that low. now, there was a december 22nd, deadline that a list of 20 people submitted bids, bids that

was narrowed down to about 6 and right now the bidders include a group led by business women maria contreras. studio lions gate, entertainment and investment, alternative investment. cheryl: how the mighty fall, i guess is the weinstein story. samsung had problems with fire and now hp. >> lithium battery issue that samsung had and applies to 50,000hp notebook computers and mobile workstations, they were sold at amazon, on hp's website and the consumer product commission safety said they received eight complaints of batteries overheating, melting and received a complete of one minor injury, someone's hand was burned and property damage totaling $4,500 because of the

haley announcing earlier this week that the u.s. would continue to withhold $255 million in military aid. in retail news, we've got more than 100 sears and kmart stores closing in march and in april, sears announcing the list of unprofitable stores, 39 sears, 64k marts and more than half the country, store employees will be paid severance. the liquidation starts january 129, that's not the only bad retail news for you, macy's is planning to cut 5,000 jobs and close 7 additional stores, they have announced 74 stores due for closure as they approach goal of eliminating 100 locations in all. good holiday season for those stores but now reality hits us and we have closures and layoffs, cheryl. cheryl: even with consumer spending doing so much better,

investors, they are gearing up for the release of a december's job report, if people had job's, they are going to spend money, economists expect the economy at 19,000 jobs. let's bring more to talk about the bigger story, economists peter mauricie, professor at the university of maryland and doug flynn, guys, good morning. >> good morning. >> good morning. cheryl: peter, i want to talk to you about the job's report, we added we think about 2 million jobs in 2017. we hit 25,000 on the markets yesterday, the economy seems to be firing on all sill -- cylinders, do you think the same drivers will be going on, peter? >> i'm expecting housing is to be stronger and investment because of tax cuts be stronger. consumers will likely take a quarter off like they did last year.

after that, we can continue to see 3% growth for three quarters as we did this year and overall come about the same as this year which means more profits, stronger market, so forth. cheryl: you know, it's interesting, doug, i was looking at the run-up of the markets, we hit a historic mark yesterday with the dow, that was the fastest 1,000 point gain in dow's history ever since the index was created. markets, of course, as we can see the 73rd record close under pith we had yesterday. that's the political side, that's the optimistic side, doug. that's the emotion, do you see that in the numbers? >> we do, i think that the gdp is improving, the job's picture is improving, you still have a great backdrop, last year's momentum is carrying into this year, there's no reason why it can't continue. look, when you've had years of 25% or more in the dow, it is followed on average with an adjustment of 8 to 11%, that's been what has happened in the

last ten times on average, but those are just opportunities to get back in if you have been sitting on the sidelines, a lot of people have actually been leafing the market, average investor, they're not even really participating as much as you might think they are. so there's a lot of opportunity and the backdrop is still very good into '18 as it improves. cheryl: disappointing, peter, to hear that so many americans are still not participating in what could have been amazing growth of their own income ifs they had looked at stocks but they were squared after the great recession, peter, that makes sense, at the same time, we have to watch for the wages listing and the job's report this morning because we have seen somewhat wage growth. >> it's not just tightness in the labor market, the fact that productivity growth is starting to pick up, you really can't pay

people more unless you can charge higher prices and international competition keeps you from doing that most of the time or you get more productivity out of the workers that you have and we are starting to see a lot more of that. i think that's very positive. you know it's funny when you ask people about the economy they say it's good, when you ask them about the stock market they are saying, i'm staying out. i bring some of this from hysterics from the left that trump is going tank the economy and sort of scares people. that's a terrible mistake. i don't know anybody that can time the market, i don't know anybody that can time the market, people shouldn't just be doing that, they should be putting money every month. >> that's the thing, doug, that's great advice, but at the same time why is the fear still out there with the average american? why are they still afraid? >> peter may appreciate this, do you know that only 22 states require economic's course in

high school and only 17 require a personal finance course and i think that some of that basis when you're younger, what more do you need to know about your own personal situation throughout your life than some of those things. so i think it's a little bit of uncertainty and lack of knowledge in that area and maybe a disbelief, but we strip all that away and fundamentals have very strong. cheryl: peter, really quick before i let you go, big change later this month, janet yellen will be saying do, we will have jarome powell. long-term i question whether a lawyer can handle a crisis, for example, the manner of alan
