february 1st, treasury secretary steven mnuchin says new withholding tables published yesterday by irs shall allow employers time to adjust workers' paychecks, purpose of tax reform was to put more money in companies so that they could better compete with international rivals. >> the whole purpose of the tax cut act was to put more money in companies so that they could compete competitive companies, i think you know, we had one of the highest tax rates in the world. we have changed that. this is a revolutionary process. we thought it would be great with the economy and we are thrilled with the number of companies that we see reacting accordingly. lauren: one of those companies is wal-mart, jeff flock has the details for us. >> lauren, cheryl, good morning. the great thing about all of this is that these benefits that are going to workers are going there right now. they don't have to wait until the end of the year until they

file tax return get tax cut, this is a benefit that comes right away. in addition to upping their minimum wage from $9 and opportunity to 10, now goes to 11, in addition to that bonuses for everyone. up a thousand dollars if you've had 20 plus years of service at want, you've had less than two years of service, you still get 200, in addition, maternity benefits have increased at wal-mart from 8 weeks paid maternally leave to ten weeks, paternity leave also increasing from two weeks now to six weeks. all of this coming at some cost to the company $300 million according to wal-mart to pay the benefits and the wage increases, another 400 million for bonuses. of course, this comes as a result of the tax package that got passed. wal-mart among other companies now decide to go pass some of that along to workers. maybe also ulterior motive, to make sure that they can attract good workers, unemployment rate

in the u.s. down to almost 4% even, harder and harder to get folks to come to work, maybe, you just have to raise wages, lauren, cheryl. lauren: a lot of companies have doing just that. wal-mart is announcing that it's shutting down sam's club warehouses, about 63 of them across the country, 10% of 660 locations eliminating 10,000 jobs, the company attributes decision to the need to fulfill better online orders. cheryl: welshing critics are slamming president trump for dismissing haiti and some african countries with vulgar language, during white house meeting on immigration with lawmakers, the president said, quote, why are we having all of these people from countries coming here and the president said that the u.s. should allow more immigrants from norway. a person with knowledge telling fox news that the president

meant that personal spro visions should be made. lauren: what do you make of the banner, colorful language. >> hamburger stand or what? that could have been done four months ago. the very idea that this week they are saying, why don't we get four white guys and general kelly to do this? lauren: comparing the group of men here, five guys, senator curbin as well as white house chief of staff john kelly. she's complaining that the immigration talks do not include any minority members of congress who might have different views. >> and you know those coming from the president that came in the bipartisan meeting, the question needs to be asked who leaked the information about the

president's comments. lauren: good question. cheryl: white house needs to get on that as well. president trump suggesting that he may be open to tucks to north korea, he has a positive relationship with the kim jong un after trading insults over north korea missile program. a text from an fbi agent said the president was a loathsome human being. peter strzok was taken off russia investigation back in july. lauren: from north korea and russia to iran, the journal reporting that president trump will continue sanctions relief for iran and maintain the 2015 nuclear agreement. trump reaching that decision after meeting with his national security team, the white house expected to make the announcement today, treasury secretary steven mnuchin also weighing in on the nuclear deal

and the possibility for further sanctions. >> many aspects to have iran deal need to be changed, that there are many activities outside of the iran deal whether it'd be ballistic missiles and other issues, that we will continue to sanction. lauren: in terms of nuclear deal extension relief to be reviewed periodically. cheryl: facebook is going to be making some pretty big changes to your news feed. lauren: here we go on that, tracee carrasco joins us, good morning, tracee. tracee: facebook will attar formula that what rises to the top, you will see soon more status updates from friend and family that sparks meaningful exchange. what facebook wants you to stop you from doing spending time with updates but not interacting

with others. ceo mark zuckerberg wrote in facebook post yesterday, i'm changing my team to have meaningful interactions. lauren: amazon second headquarters, what do we know? tracee: real estate deal in boston is sparking some speculation about amazon's second headquarters location. amazon is negotiating a potential lease for an entire 500,000 square foot building and option for a second building of the same size in the plan of sea port square development. amazon is expected to make announcement on hq2 location later this year, there was also buzz about atlanta being one of the top contenders. cheryl: and chicago has been really fight to go get amazon as well. well, several cities have been fighting but you're right. just when we thought we had seen it all from alexa and i'm

immigration just as talks get sidetracked by the president's vulgar comment which you heard right now about haiti and africa. is there a deal in sight? we bring former dnc deputy secretary josé and republican strategists john jordan, gentlemen, happy friday to you, it's quite an exciting friday here. >> good morning. >> good morning. lauren:ly start with you, john, is there a deal in sight and are we going get one by the 19th before the government is due to shut down? >> well, certainly there's a deal to be had here, right, both sides want to get done, the president wants to get this deal done, the democrats have to, it's political imperative for them. it's likely going to happen, is it going to happen before the 19th? probably not, we will deal with shut down and there's a deal to be had. lauren: josé, these are the senators working on the bill, graham, flake, gardner, durbun,

menendez, ending the diversity lottery system, something that the president wanted, getting dreamers 3 to 10 years path to citizenship, right and grants green cards to people in the country under temporary protective status program and that, josé, is what set off the president reportedly and we got the vulgar comment. why is he so angry about that? >> look, i mean, i'm not surprised that the president says these types of comments when it comes to immigrants, he did this when he announced when he was running for president ch it's very sad, i'm not surprised. now what i am surprised is that the senate came up forward with this bipartisan deal and now the president is pushing back. i mean, he's got what he wanted, we are ending lottery visa and extending border security and extending daca, here is the bill

of love, mr. president, let's get it signed and lets move it forward. lauren: john, just paw few days ago we had the bipartisan meeting with all lawmakers in a room talking about the president said, whatever these guys agree to, that's what we are going to get but what's wrong with that plan? >> well, that's just it, right, this is just six senators, this isn't -- this is not a bill, it's not republicans and democrats with leadership on board. it's not even for sure pass, this is six guy that is got together and hammered something out and does not deal with border security. only $2.8 billion for that give me a break. it moves a lot of people from the lottery system into tpp, it is a shell game, it's not where the bill needs to be and not where it's going to be at the end to have day, we will deal with daca but we will have to deal with the border -- really secure the border not just this stuff, this is six senators, this isn't a bill, this isn't pass, this isn't a republican

president vetoing it, it's just six guys. lauren: to your point, originally the border wall, securing the southern border was supposed to cost $20 billion, so when you get not even 3 billion obviously the president would be disappointed, josé, and do you think his base, his supporters are equally disappointed? >> i'm sure part of his base wants the full funding of the wall right away, look, that's not going to happen, remember, there's fencing in the border. i don't even think we need funding for a wall. they are get getting a couple billion dollars already, it's not the 18 billion that he wanted but, look, that's how you negotiate, that's what makes it bipartisan. let's see what happens with the senate, let's hold on for a second, when they bring forward to congress, it might be increase a bit, the republicans have to meet democrats halfway. we are talking about the lives of 800,000, we are talking -- come on, we are talking about

cheryl: we are going get new data on inflation today when the consumer price index is released and if inflation is making big comeback in 2018 should investors be looking to buy safe havens, maybe gold, let's bring in anthem blanchard, anthem, good morning. i realize that gold is your bread and butter, but should people be looking at gold now and why when frankly the market still hit record highs yesterday? >> people should always be looking at gold to certain extent and ultimately you're looking at a lot of uncertainty in the markets, ultimately we like to buy assets when they are cheap and on sale, just like everything else on sale, we look at gold being on sale from 1900 peak roughly.

so i think a prudent amount you should talk to personal financial adviser. cheryl: goal has a lot of competition these days in particular with the crypto currency market and that's is why the inventors and those that back believe in bitcoin say you should look at bitcoin as gold as alternative investment and thinking about emerging markets and thinking about bonds? >> that's very true and that's why i think a balanced portfolio is very wise. you have to take it seriously, you have to put it in portfolios, like gold no government could create it. unlike gold it's actually impossible to find anywhere in the universe, bitcoin is data that's protected, trust that human beings have protected and now the machines are the custodians of trust which sounds spooky and scary, human beings form the consensus that the

machines decide on what to trust and that's bitcoin. cheryl: certainly the bitcoin story continues and debate continues but also what about things like real estate, anthem, you to say specially with investors throughout the united states and with tax reform and the way that it's affecting property owners, another safe haven for many has been real estate, maybe that's changing this year. >> i think so, obviously everyone has to live, not everyone has to buy somewhere, you look at rent to own ratios, real estate looks expensive to me as asset class, i think to your point you want to stay diversified and have exposure in some way, yeah. cheryl: real quick before i let you go, the pretty moderate, what are your inflation targets, we are hearing 2% from them, what do you say? >> i think you're going to see above 2% from price inflation standpoint, i think realistically what people are spending their money on for core

treadmill? i actually think it was pretty good. we begin this, though, good news for the economy and workers out there because of growing number of american companies announcing benefits, announcing bonuses for workers following the new tax law. cheryl: todd pirro with details. >> happy friday to you and happy numbers. let's get right into them, 82 companies passing tax relief to workers, wal-mart announcing they are increasing startling wage to 11 bucks an hour and employees will get bonus of up to a thousand dollars, the dow rose to another all-time high yesterday like you mentioned, jumping 205 points to close above 25,500 and a recent quinnipiac poll shows that 66% of american voters say the nation's economy is excellent or good. that is the highest positive rating since the poll first gauged this topic back in 2001. all this leading to the following tweet from one of the architects of the tax package

reaction on what the president said, rural america, farmers have been suffering you say and you point out in op-ed journal all the bank closures that have been happening, you call rural america bank deserts, does the president make you feel any better on what you're seeing in reality? >> clearly tax benefit, benefit for our bank and for those who are paying taxes, unfortunately in the market that is we serve, folks are poverty level, they are not benefiting from tax break. our bank, we shared profits and tax benefits with our employee who is do the hard work and i believe farmers all who have benefited on tax proposal they will see a benefit but there's much, much more that needs to happen to really stimulate the economy in rural america and that's what our bank focuses on, helping to push and drive the economy, we want folks to help to buy homes, we want people to have jobs, inspire

entrepreneurs, we want to encourage folks to save money and the tax bill does put money back in their pockets and that's positive. cheryl: two questions, first are you going to be opening more banks and as jpmorgan is now closed, almost 1600 in small downtowns, do you think financing is going to be a better position for the farmers considering what the tax plan has done for them, there's going to be more capital in farmers' pockets to take advantage of ones like banks like yourself? >> larger banks are abandoning rural communities, we are trying to open new branches, expand, the further a business moves away from traditional sorts of capital, we are looking to grow, we are raising capital, we are looking to expand and we want to be the answer to small businesses who need capital in rural america. cheryl: i want you to listen to something that president trump talked about and that was nafta. listen to this. >> sure. >> on nafta, i am working very

hard to get a better deal for our country and for our farmers and for manufacturers. [applause] >> it's under negotiation as we speak. we want to see even more victories for the american farmer and for the american rancher. cheryl: so let me ask you this, he's talking about making changes to nafta, but don't many farmers like nafta? isn't that helpful to their business? >> cheryl, you're exactly right. the farm sector has been one of the real proponents of nafta, they benefited from nafta, obviously we are going to be carefully watching what those changes might be because it has been benefit for farmers. cheryl: what about the issue of the labor shortage in this country, we are having huge immigration debate right now in the country in washington, but these farmers have complained that they don't enough laborers to get the work done, wouldn't immigration in its form that we have been discussing make it worse on american farmers? >> you know, cheryl, that's possible. it's going to take much more than tax break to really lift the rural economy and help the

american farm e. they have very concerned about immigration reform, you know, obviously farmers rely heavily on immigrants to help with the labor so, sure, there's labor shortage and farmers are watching carefully. cheryl: darren, i encourage everybody to read wall street journal op-ed talking about how banks can help the american farmer which is the life blood of our economy. darren, thank you very much for being here this morning. >> thank you, cheryl, thanks for having me. lauren: intel says the latest chip patch to protect computers from hackers could cause them to reboot over and over again. cheryl: tracee carrasco with that story and other headlines for that, trace, good morning again. >> hips can cause computer using older processors to reboot more often than normal and that intel may need to issue updates to fix the buggy patches. its spoke person for intel said, quote, we are working quickly with these customers to

understand diagnosis and address this reboot issue, intel also asking those cloud computing customers to hold off on installing those patches because there are issues there as well. lauren: it's not just intel, amd, every single computer out there is vulnerable to hackers and now the fixes are flawed. tracee: yes. lauren: kind of crazy. cheryl: you have another story, hopefully not flawed story about ford but issuing warning on one of older trucks, popular one, right? >> yes, ford ranger, ford is telling 2,009 -- 2,900 owners to stop driving them, they are also dispatching dealers out there to fix the takata air bag inflaters because of the problems, they are linking it back to a death last summer a driver died in july. so this is just another issue, already there are 34 million vehicles in total recalled

because of this takata air bag. lauren: ticking time bomb. what's going on with hooters? tracee: part of going to hooters is the experience and the staff, but -- [laughter] cheryl: waitresses. tracee: some people are embarrassed to go there because they maybe don't want to be seen there or they don't wanting to there but they still want the food. lauren: the food is good. tracee: ceo is really pushing for delivery service and now hooters will start offering delivery for its customers. this is one of the biggest growing sectors of the restaurant business right now, delivery as we are seeing so many restaurants get into that and so one other thing, hooters girls will not be making the deliveries, that's one important to know. lauren: how did you know that was the follow-up? tracee: i knew that was going to be the question. cheryl: great burgers, great
