lloyd link fine. they are so excited about the economy right now they are fighting over who is more bullish. jamie dimon at 4% gdp avoided 3%. you know, i thought his speech on immigration was excellent and is certainly a center, but he wrangles both side of the aisle on it. trade to "the wall street journal" had a piece on this and said the president's twitter is more biting than his personal bite. he's more contrary than controversial. anyway, this speech last night most would agree was not too divisive. i want to talk to you about how that is affecting stocks right now. the president continues to tout manufacturing jobs created. african-american unemployment all-time low. tax cuts helping companies, helping individuals. we had two intense back-to-back days of selling on the stock

market. as the recovery we are seeing in the future is going to stay today and throughout the week? >> that's hard to say. we are talking hours and minutes here. we will see if they sell into the rise this morning. look beyond today. if you are focused on or this week, all of those things you just mentioned are real positives for this administration and the economy going higher is a lot more important than whether or not your favorite talk was up today or tomorrow. i think the administration is pushing him all the right buttons. he mentioned at $1.5 trillion infrastructure package and that is a public private partnership. that's key because it will not fall on the backs of taxpayers. lauren: will get to that later in the show. real quickly way of boeing, microsoft, at&t all reporting that its earnings today. your feelings on earnings season thus far. >> thus far pretty good.

i'm going to give you the first shot at this. chuck schumer and nancy pelosi, their faces look like her dog had just died. why the scowling, especially when it comes to immigration. >> would start with a couple things. they are scowling because the american people are trying to figure out what the president is trying to accomplish with the negative talk about immigration, especially with the dreamers. 700 dozen young people brought to this country as children should be treated as political football. cheryl: he is offering an status. he's offering them a deal in the dreamers. >> first of all, what are we talking about in terms of the deal? these are human beings. >> i've got to disagree with you. curbing chain migration, and in diversity visa lottery program and having more border fence in the sun and 54 democrats agreed to in the 2013 gang of a bill

and now all of a sudden you guys have amnesia. he's trying to reach across the aisle and make it so both sides give away, be you guys don't want to solve the issue. you want to use his political battling ram. he is trying in the bottom line is democrats just don't care. cheryl: can you respond to that? >> first of all we care a lot. we care about ideas and people being impacted by donald trump's policies. it's unfair to point out democrats are willing to support this a couple years ago. while we do it now is a president who want to trade a billion u.s. dollars which we don't have anymore because they give away the whole farm. >> was changed in the last five years as donald john trump sits in the white house. we have all the same problems since 1986 and yes we are dealing with humans and yes we should be compassionate. we have to remember your goal as president is to protect american citizens and understand what that does to jobs, wages and

resources. you have to treat people as humans but you have to protect the american citizens who come above the legal -- >> i'm glad when you talk about immigration the impact on jobs. americans of immigrant background contributed $3 trillion to the economy last year alone. if we talk about what immigrants are doing for this country, look at that to begin with. >> we can throw numbers back and forth but illegal immigration cost this country nor the $130 billion a year and you guys don't want to spend $30 billion one-time on a wall that is less than half of 1% of federal spending because we can't afford it. every time we can do something you guys won't agree to you all of a sudden move the goalposts and frankly it's becoming quite obvious to the american people and yes the american people want daca recipient status that they want to make sure we fix the problem and unfunny for democrats. this is all about electoral politics. it is starting to shine through. cheryl: i want to get to some of

union address. infrastructure in the construction industry often isn't discussed so is nice not to be left on the cutting room floor. president trump laid at his fish for one point by trillion dollars plan. he talked about streamlining the permit a process which is important because right now there's so many projects mothballed because it takes to want to get a project approved into shovels in the ground. this is going to attract private capital into the market and we will be able to see a flourishing of public private partnerships and also a good deal for state and local partners and private partners in rebuilding infrastructure. i'm sure there's some that think that 1.5 trillion is not enough. we have a $2.5 trillion infrastructure funding deficit right now, so i think there'll be some questions about where will the money come from. maximizing every taxpayer dollar in attracting private investment is the only way to move a responsible and effective

infrastructure plan forward in the physical environment. the >> would it be heard in this is an idea using the repatriated money from the tax cut, the corporate tax cut in using that to fund fund some of this. >> that's a nonstarter in congress. you've got to attract private investment, and make sure that state and local infrastructure dollars are spent wisely. we are optimistic about what the president said last night. he touched on a couple of key issues like workforce development coming importance of vocational schools. right now that the 500,000 shortage of skilled labor. they talk about another trillion to a trillion and a half of infrastructure for the next decade will talk about a million person shortage. >> that is jobs. the administration has said after taxes when they get through with achieving tax access, let's move onto infrastructure. with the promise of jobs in

fixing the infrastructure this could be bipartisan? >> it can be a bipartisan solution. folks of god to dig in and get the job done here at this point. for far too long we've been kicking the can down the road in terms of funding and important solutions and so i think we've got an opportunity here. associated builders and contractors working at the white house and congress to get this over the finish line. we'd like to see a few more things added to the proposal that will ensure that all americans have a fair shot to rebuild america's infrastructure. back in 2009, president obama issued an executive order that encourages positive labor agreement over 25 million allows project labor agreements on federally assisted projects. these increase instruction between 12% and 18% of these are implemented. they discourage competition with qualified contractors in america's skilled work force. 80% of the workforce does not

tribe alters tone to suit the occasion. these are terrible headlines coming from the left are they, michael? >> the "washington post" is a summary of what i believe the president did last night. the first journal delivered a lot of hard lessons for the president that he implemented in a speech last night really focusing on the unity and common values looking towards our shared vision. not highlighting the divisions in discrete constituencies on the democratic response and really focusing on policy and the need to compromise and focus on the americans broadly with reference to the b. in the place of the people and the desire expressed for common ground and compromise on policy is a change i would like to see implemented every single day in the next two years of his presidential term. >> what you think of the media's interpretation of what they heard last night? >> some of the news articles

generally positive looking out a positive speech and taking quotes and pieces from his speech. if you look at the commentary, "the new york times" the main editorial from the editorial board was saying the speech needs to go on forever and it might part about the immigration which we all predicted. i will say that i think on tv in particular they were suffering from a little bit of ptsd from last year when dan jones gave this glowing remark about the president saying this is the moment he became president. we did see a lot of people, and the first senior political reporter on cnn has said it was a boring speech. he seemed bored and tired and i was fairly similar run-in we see as well. lauren: was long. an hour and 20 minutes. think it was as long as bill clinton's eight years ago. but michael, talking specifics, donald trump use the word we use 129 times.

our 104 times and he didn't use the word i as much. when you think about? >> that's a welcome change as well. he also used the reference day two date to americans and they could've done a better job talking about himself included in the americans. all in all its great to see the president focused on the nation as a whole and with respect to read his comments on, the media has completely disregarded the point of the mainstream american worker and america first is not offensive in the way the president described it last night. in fact, really straightforward in something the mainstream moderate electorate of the united states can get behind them.coming after they offer a compromise with democrats on the dreamers to bring citizenship to one playmate million one of the americans was a really great step towards developing some sort of progress on this and other important issues. lauren: and the americans are

dreamers resonate. any others that resonate today? >> i think there were other parts as we go along vote kind of look back. i'm just paraphrasing, but something that we are no longer going to have an economy that surrenders. that was an excellent line in your speech and as the analysis continues to come in, you will find some of it gets a little more positive, but there is some ptsd in the media. >> one more thing people are not talking about in terms of a great line. the empire state building was built in a year. it is so relevant to the bureaucracy and delays in the records to really build a country that is competitive in light of the fact that china works on a 100 year plan and is able to build infrastructure in a matter of moment it seems. that is something underrepresented in the cover should be in the media. lauren: the american moment, the american dream reignited. thank you so much. cheryl: well, coming up at a lot

ago. the democrats actually were a little less supportive than you would've thought given that the theme was about trying to unify the country. by and large he came across looking more and demand on the heels of javascript folks around the world so you know what, this guy is very unconventional, but what he's doing is working. cheryl: he talked a lot about what he should have talked about how the market has been since 2015, the sentries rolled back regulations. the goal is to roll back to for everyone to regulation and 22 rollback for everyone to regulation. these of all market positives. some say yesterday's selloff in the stock market was a good thing because when you start to see markets going up and up, you start to worry you've got a bubble situation and even a 10% pullback could be a positive long-term. >> is certainly could. you always want to see the market go up. when it goes up 300-point, what caused the market to sell off.

somebody the down button. we were overdue for a little bit of a correction. one that is missed is this huge pullback and while the market was heading up, a lot of companies tried to tie themselves in a little bit. when they sold off, that signals growing risk aversion, which tells you to pull back. i was not surprised. a lot of people in big games the month of january. they probably sit and type at the fed meeting today and that will clear up some of the concerns about interest. >> at the final meeting and now the changing for jerome powell, but when asked about the you about the huskers direct her. this can really change the dynamics of the health care industry overall. insurance companies selling off from a pharmaceutical company selling off on the idea that amazon would get into the health care business with earp shire
