for the rest of the week. lauren: i did hear that. connell: we have a lot to get through but this first story is kind of scary. lauren: developing overnight. 11 people were sickened after suspicious letter was opened at marine corps headquarters in the pentagon. three people taken to the hospital listed in stable condition. the above contained an unknown substance. meyer henderson and virginia appear to spend sent to the fbi's lab in quantico for testing. the building was evacuated are not clear at this point he sent the letter. connell: obviously will stay on top of that. closing sharply lower as we talked about the new concerns. the fed except maybe the pace of interest rate hikes. lauren: all of this after jay powell expressed confidence in u.s. economy in his first public comment as leader of the central bank. adam shapiro in washington with those details. >> good morning. the federal reserve chairman

jerome powell, jay powell, when he addressed congress, everyone wanted to find out what will the fed do next when it comes to interest rate. expecting interest rates will go up, expect at least three increases this year. people are trying to interpret if the chair believes there should be maybe more than three. first it about the economy and the economy is strong and growing. here's what he said. >> my personal outlook for the economy has strengthened since december. again, each member of the fomc is running down a new set of projections of monetary policy as we go into the march meeting, which begins three weeks from today. and so, i wouldn't want it pre-judge that. >> as i said something some people might consider somewhat hawkish. the fed chair believed although wages are not growing at a pace they would like, they will accelerate, but now there are risks on both sides. inflation in the economy

overheating. >> we've reached the point where the risks are too cited and we need to keep that into account. if we do get behind in the market -- the economy does overheat, we don't see that now. if that happens we have to raise rates faster and that raises the chances of a recession and recession tend to have vulnerable populations than most. >> one member of the committee trying to pin him down to raise interest rates more than three times. the fed chair wouldn't go there but he did allude to three increases this year in the new analysis will be released right after the march meeting in a couple weeks. at that point to find out if the fed still believes we are on target for three interest rate increases are even more. >> john layfield joins us now. global ambassador. also fox news contributor up with us this morning.

as adam says, but he supposedly yesterday was from jay powell to maybe get for rather than three interest rate hikes. what did she read into it? >> the fed has been transparent about projecting interest rate hike so doesn't shop the market. 33% probability of a fourth rate hike. whoever is president, fed chief will be in a rising rate environment known for some time. it's coming because of good things happening. growth happening giving the fed the ability to raise the fourth rate. it's a little bit of a surprise to the market but mr. powell did a good job telecasting potential moves. train to that growth coming good things he talked about and does it lead to inflation powell was asked about that yesterday. here's what he said yesterday.

waiting. if we don't have that -- here we go. >> we've been getting up to 2% but generally speaking inflation has been low and stable for 15 or 20 years now. train to the point that it's been stable getting up to 2%. what's your view on that? there are differing views among the economists and people on wall street that maybe we can handle a little bit more than that. >> i think we can. the last inflation number was to .1%. so is significantly below the target of 2%. companies reporting from whirlpool to tyson foods to cisco to ford. so many companies are porting they are hurting their bottom line because of the quantity inflation. oil prices are up 50% in the past year. inflation has been there. i don't think it's anything new

to the market. >> of his thoughts on how you're handling this. talking about more later on in the hour about how investors sent stocks handle a rising rate environment. what kind of adjustment is he making? >> i've been surprised how easy they are taking the collection. the market has had such a great run up for so long that people are looking for any reason to pull back and they use this number and put a little more weight on it than what would normally be put on it because it's one of the data points they wanted to use. 3% for the year, s&p and dow respectively. this market is at this year even though with all of our volatility. the key right now is to find stocks if you can find stocks at a cheaper point to get in on cheaper stocks. train to buy on those tips. good to see you john layfield. >> some people are worried that someone will sell your package

folks like joe biden, bernie sanders were certainly probably ran. but the democratic party needs is leanne castro were invalid of the younger. those folks can hopefully reenergized the democratic party. >> we're looking at a list of potential candidates for the party in 2020. i'll let you way into that. >> the democratic party problem is that it's fractured. it has the moderate ring at the blue-collar democrats and the more strangling, which is of course where the bernie sanders of workers live. it's going to be hard to satisfy both of these factions. there's also an hunger on the left for an outsider like to write in 2016 so we can see a candidate like opera gives him a run for his money. if they want to beat trump in 2020 they need to embrace the

anti-d.c. sentiment instead of trying to use salted out like he did in 26 games. trump has a pretty good pat to her in 2020 and you shouldn't underestimate it. lauren: do you think they will support tramping his reelection bid typically they step aside and support you. do you think that's the case or do you think maybe it potential run by john kasich can spoil that? >> the fact it is even even potentially primate is a bad sign for the president. there's no question his approval ratings are very low, under 40% and the russian investigation is still on his back. republicans are going to probably distance themselves from tron. they are doing it now for 2018. i don't think it's going to be what people think. connell: what republicans are distancing themselves from donald trump?

>> republicans in general in 2018. >> to their republicans in d.c. you are completely out of touch with voters are the ones distancing themselves from donald trump. the media and the establishment in d.c. completely completely underestimated trumpeting vacuous this joke candidate who would win. now leading up to 2020, same elites and media and the d.c. beltway bubble assume that he's going to be the first one term president since george w. bush. they are in for another rude awakening. connell: do you think hasek would run as independents? >> they can try, but it's a waste of their time. they are both wildly unpopular comes initially trump voters. flake was the most unpopular senator in the country. these people are completely out of touch and clueless when it comes to working americans come in the same people who showed up in droves to go trump in office.

wednesday, the last of february 28. on lauren simonetti. train to establish that just moments ago. and once again for cheryl casone. how can investors put their money to work? that is where we ago breaking this morning. reality share ceo joins us now. eric, good to see you after the jay powell testimony yesterday. everybody's got to adjust. windows coming comments here. had here. have you just a rising rate environment? you said dividend growth. expand on that for us. >> anytime we see rising rate environment is typically challenging. and you don't want to be in companies who can't grow their earnings, camper dividends. just think about it if you're in a stock that doesn't have any dividend growth potential, you're essentially in the bond. when interest rates prize they typically fall. same thing with equities. find companies that grow dividends over time and you'll

end up performing even better than the market because those are the marks that had the healthiest balance sheets. connell: big time. it's interesting to have this discussion because i was talking about this a few weeks ago that we haven't had to have this discussion very much recently but the people making second to second, minute to minute decisions. a lot of them don't have this type of environment going higher. >> rising rate on the whole may not be that cautious or that cautionary tale. the rates as we get into the flattening yield curve, that is almost a death knell for the stock market, especially after eight years of old markets. people really need to be careful here and just watch themselves be ready to take the foot off the gas if that's the case. connell: what you look for in

particular? >> with a short-term interest rates rise above the longer-term interest rates, signaling the market itself doesn't feel like the economy is growing, but yet the fed keeps stepping on the brakes and eventually get the market correction. connell: right, the timing of that is very, very difficult to figure out. look in the jay powell in his testimony yesterday does seem to be what kind of spooked the market with all this talk that we make a four rather than three interest rate hikes. before that you go, let me ask you about a somewhat different subject in that technology. technology companies in the market has not been doing great, we talked about amazon a few minutes ago. that said, you've made this point a few times coming under more and more scrutiny whether it political, everything out there with the election. how do look as we look at the nasdaq at some of these

technology companies and how they deal with the extra scrutiny. >> the key is innovation. the companies innovating, and truly innovating in new areas, they are the ones that have the healthiest position, but some of the other companies are stagnating on the innovation front like the facebook and twitter and they really only offer this one thing and now on top of that you had in the fakeness aspect of it. it really is challenging for those stocks to grow anything beyond. connell: roosting up with facebook in particular. good to see you. appreciate it. lauren: starbucks opening the doors on its new seattle reserves store where customers can enjoy everything from coffee to cocktails. cheryl casone behind the scenes at the starbucks executive chairman, howard shows. reporter: i have to start with the question when he became executive chairman, this is your

at subtle signs. think about being tired, extreme fatigue. i set my own for 3:00 a.m. i'm here at 4:00 something. we are not talking about the lack of sleep. we are talking about extreme exhaustion. when the heart is functioning, a valve problem or a heart attack, but is not circulating through the body. blood creates oxygen or lack of oxygen really tired. lauren: these are the signs. what can you do to prevent it? >> most important thing is just following up with your primary care, going to your.air, make sure you go to those yearly exams. stress exams. if you do feel you are suffering from a heart attack, which is a myocardial infarction, go to the er. donovan asked around. five minutes mean life or death. connell: important stuff no doubt. we will shift to sports for a few minutes. the lebron james, getting a lot
