he's using this as a jumping off point. >> there is a broad consensus that tariffs are bad for our economy. nobody wins a trade war. we have the biggest economy and market in the world. if the nations are cut off from our markets it will hurt them more than it will hurt us. i think what we are hearing from other countries around the world are saber rattling. but the bigger and more important point' is tariffs are bad for the economy, they will kill jobs and raise consumer costs. kennedy: those are the easiest jobs to get rid of when you have an inflationary state because you are not importing cheap goods because you are slapping tariffs on them, people who don't have a lot of money end up paying moyer and suffering for it. of course, the biggest casualty of the tariff battle, gary cohn.

shouldn't be cooperating unless they are subpoenaed. the government is saying we have the right constitutionally to preempt state law. but this is a states rights question as well. and law enforcement in many levels is local. kennedy: i love federalism. i also think immigrants add a lot to local and state economics. and if you are going to have a sanctuary policy, you are going to make more money, therefore you don't need federal funding. is that fair? >> the same argument about states rights could be made. kennedy: you have ideologically different aims but the same precedent that the doj is using to sue the state. >> i appreciate your libertarian view on immigration, i'm more

moderate on immigration than a lot of conservatives. but we are a sovereign country and our laws have to be obeyed. kennedy: fix the laws. prohibition leads to illegal immigration. >> we need to prioritize illegal immigrants who come town this country and commit crimes. one of the laws being challenges by the trump administration protects those people. illegal immigrants who go to jail for other crimes. it makes it harder for the feds to collaborate with the local officials. to me they claim one thing then they pass laws that contradict that and they are indignant the trump administration is challenging them. on that law especially i think trump and sessions are right. kennedy: they have abandoned

comn common sense and practicality. >> i wish jeff sessions had done this a long time ago. california continues to release convicted felons on to u.s. soil. taxpayers fund welfare for illegal immigrants, food, medical, even cash assistance. kennedy: i don't have a problem ending the entitlement state. but immigrants also start businesses and work and commit crimes at lower rates than the native born population. i know people don't like that's statistic, but it's true. we need to have a serious conversation. if you are going to have a more some border you cannot have an open chest when it comes to the
