heritage foundation. this later elevator diffuse the situation with north korea. what do you think? >> is certainly represents reality. conventional wisdom and then three months ago the united states can preemptively attack north korea. this is basically where reasonable people said all along. this is a crisis out of control. cheryl: that has happened without any preparatory meeting with white house officials coming over north korean officials. i do want to see this came out of the blue, but a basically dead. when you make of the fact kim jong un came to the table so quickly? >> it's important we not try to predict why we think he did this. the obvious answer is we don't know why he does what he does. our strategy, maximum pressure is a great strategy that is to keep them from being a threat. he has to choose how to respond

to this. we all risk if we say what's he really buying. i'm not sure we really know. cheryl: we do know they are willing for now to suspend any nuclear missile testing until the time of peace talks, which we believe is sometime in may in south korea. we don't have confirmation yet. the question is, is this another stalling tactic by the regime appears they've done this before for decades where they say we are going to talk. that's a bigger fear here. >> it doesn't matter because this strategy is designed specifically to do that. nuclear deterrence, missile defense can be sanctioning keeps him from becoming a larger threat. biting him more time doesn't live in a better place. it gives more time to the safeguards in place to keep them from being a threat.

cheryl: president obama made it sound like he didn't want to give legitimacy to the north korean regime. even at the united nations in the fall, he made a comment would totally destroy north korea if it came to that, if weapons were fired against japan our ally or two less. do you think that's part of the reason the regime has come to the table now? the threats from the president have been very serious. >> i don't know. first of all, trump likes the people he's competing against. he's also very, very good at these meetings and there's very little at risk for the united states. but it demonstrates that this is not a crisis out of control. it shows the u.s. and south korea are working hand-in-hand and that's great. cheryl: is certainly does. thanks for joining us a really young break news. lauren: president trump ordering keep you sanctions on aluminum

thing. so i think it does have to be very carefully administered. we also know that senator flake has a particular rivalry with the president. the kind of language is not terribly helpful. lauren: there is book a room and that's what encouraged investors. the breaking news this morning is china strongly opposing tariffs, calling on the u.s. to withdraw them. i'm curious how this plays out because i feel like elon musk of tesla allows the presidency right now, treated yesterday in the president could reference the streets. i'm against import duties in general, but the current rule very difficult. if a competing in an olympic race where china is taxing a with imports at 25%. are we going to see a reciprocal taxpayer? are you worried in in the victory broke major country like china?

>> it's not surprising china doesn't like this policy at all. clearly the trump administration is aiming at china. china is in many ways a bad actor when it comes to trade did they violate intellectual property, put a big barriers doing business in china and the president wants to get movement they are and that's why he's coming out with big tariffs. you'll see a lot of exemptions for ally countries. that's why he talked about flexibility. when it comes to china he will press the issue because that is where you have the biggest room for improvement. unless you talk tough and put your money where your mouth is camille not get china to move. >> in this digital age, intellectual property is a lot bigger than steel and aluminum when it comes to china. the paula says 32% of americans think that tariffs will hurt the economy. 42% see it as about dean. 27% say it will help the u.s. economy. what do you make of what this is

going to do? >> we can see these numbers. the concern is people have terrace can be a very blunt instrument unless they are carefully administered and also, you know, a lot of times unfortunately they do get withdrawn. so they have a certain longevity, a certain usefulness potentially but they have to be wielded with a surgeon's precision. i'm glad that the president is listening to folks who have expressed concerns. that's why you're hearing this week already as brain just mentioned, mexico and canada have been exempted from these tariffs. and yes, the focus should be on china because there's a lot of bad, unfair stuff happening with china and leverages increased the more prosperous we are, which is where the president has done a brilliant job bringing us back to work. lauren: in the poll found the

he said that however many times yesterday. i hope the numbers good today in the markets really going to take off and really going to rally. we were -- we barely moved anywhere yesterday and will explode if the numbers up today plus the north korean new about trumpeting with the date they are about north korea. love to see a great number. >> if you factor what we were seeing in the jobs report, again labor participation was put at 62.7%. if you don't have labor participation in the number of people either working or looking for work, that tells me we don't have enough employed americans despite what we could see a 4% unemployment this morning. >> we are going to see the labor participation rate go up with these tariffs that the president has enacted going into effect in two weeks.

i was just in the midwest yesterday and i asked them directly, these are job creators. i said do you is a good thing or bad thing and they specifically told me it is a great thing. it's going to cause a lot of innovation. it's going to help turn mills back on in the united states and we will see the labor participation rate go up. that's the number everybody's focused on rather than the unemployment number. while the unemployment number is important, they want their rate labor participation rate to go well. cheryl: i think we all do. we all agree with the president on that. i want to switch to the markets. the futures are flat added the jobs report that today is the nine-year anniversary of the bull market. despite the financial crisis, despite political turmoil in the last several years obamacare, we still have a doubt that it's a

basically 280%. s&p is 305%. do you see this trend continuing? when i get to a minor point in a bull market, you get a little nervous. >> i see the trend continuing. one of the indicators of stocks that are major players in the market like amazon yesterday did an all-time high. facebook is strong, even google looks a lot better in that hasn't looked that great since been inspected in january. even that is turned around in the last few weeks. the market is higher. the trend continues higher for 2018. i look at the technicals. the charts say it's so why wouldn't you think it. the only thing that could've been a monkey in the ranch would have been the worst north korea. trap may meet with him. i see all smooth sailing for the market had. don't panic if we have another drop-off. cheryl: i won't panic. armando, would you say?

can satisfy this trend gets his way with steel in the e.u. fight back. but if it does escalate, clearly things could get tricky for them here. cheryl: we have a potential trade work from a situation in north korea and the u.s. jobs report for february today. how closely are you watching the unemployment data? >> as huge as always every month. i think the headline is expected around 200,000. the average earnings of courses were really lucky not with the high print. 3% say that could hit s&p markets. but i do think that caused a month ago is maybe kind of already priced in that we are getting higher wages. it may cause a disturbance in the market and they are actually trading a bit lower this
