certain things like males they used as projectiles, papers, and a number of things. as we are all aware, one of the things they did immediately is attached the commonality and that's done through delivery systems and the actual material utilized to cause the explosion. for example, high-grade explosives. in my opinion i don't think either one were used in if they were, they were used in small amount because of how the combustion from these devices are. they have made such headway than examining information left at the scene that they are able to come to quick resolution. as i said earlier in other interviews, the fbi did far more than they were letting now. they never had any press conferences i was aware of and they were way, way ahead of

two bombs, one detonated, one did not which provided clues, but the level of sophistication when the tripwire was found in one of the bombs shows a level of sophistication the serial bomber had. i think that because people are parallel in this case to the unit bomber years ago who for a period of 17 years targeted community. he was anti-modern technology, anti-industrialization. he wrote manifestoes. what you think we will burn from this serial bomber? >> obviously as the unabomber was upset about something, there's clearly something driving this individual. but you have to wonder what the nature of that might be that you go out and start to randomly attempt to kill people with these devices. there is one other thing that has to be said here. they've got to continue the investigation to make sure there

level of partnership that has taken place with federal officials, local officials and police department to bring this to an end. through all of this hard work, we identified several leads throughout the course of the weeks, but beginning in the past 24 to 36 hours, we started getting information on one person of interest that we continue to work on and continue to develop and as we continue to do our investigation, this person of interest ultimately move to be a suspect and that's what we started focusing on what is his involvement in these crimes. late last night and early this morning we felt very confident that this was the suspect in the bombing incidents that took place in austin. we had surveillance teams looking for the suspect and we

ultimately located the vehicle that the suspect was known to be driving and witnesses told us he was driving. and in fact come we found that at a hotel right up the road in round rock. we had multiple officers from both the police department and federal partners that took up positions around the hotel awaiting the arrival of our tax go teams because we wanted to have ballistic vehicles here so they could take the suspect into custody as safely as possible. while we were waiting for those vehicles to get here, much time had passed and the vehicle started to drive away. we began following the vehicle again waiting to get a tactical vehicles here so we could make a stop. however, the vehicle ended up stopping in the garbage on the

side of the road behind us as members of the austin police department s.w.a.t team approached the vehicle, the suspect you detonated a bomb inside the vehicle, knocking one of our s.w.a.t officers back in one of our s.w.a.t officers fired at the suspect as well. the suspect is deceased and has significant injuries from a blast that occurred from detonating the bomb inside his vehicle. we cannot name the suspect at this time because he has not been positively identified yet by the medical examiner and next of kin have not yet been notified. so there will be a lengthy investigation that will take place regarding the officer involved shooting. the investigation will be conducted by the austin police department internal affairs unit with the austin police monitor participating as well for your review of compliance with departmental policy.

they will be a concurrent criminal investigation that will take place by the texas rangers of the incident that occurred here tonight. again, this is the culmination of three very long weeks for community. and throughout these weeks we've talked about the importance of remaining vigilant in looking out for each other. i want to continue that message as we stand here this morning because we don't know where the suspect has spent his last 24 hours and therefore we still need to remain vigilant to ensure that no other packages or devices have been left through the community. as we go through the day today, we want the community to remain vigilant, but i also want to look at where we are now in round rock and remind our neighboring communities in cedar park in other cities tt
