reelection. going through the 2010 midterm cycle, there is a lot of telling parallels happening now within the republican party that happened with us in 2010 within the democratic party. i think this is an opportunity for democrats to make sure between states, win back the house and that we do well in the senate as well in an opportunity for us to get that message out to the american people and once people realize that, >> we have 38 house republicans not seeking reelection. in fact, 24 of them are not retiring. here's a full scheme of all the republicans with driving. what does this mean for the direction the house is going in going forward? >> is certainly harder anytime a party is in power.

traditionally speaking, historically speaking to maintain that power. it's harder to get to the polls when they've given you everything they've wanted the way republican voters have. the messaging moving forward needs to be continued to push president trump's agenda. are you better off now than you were two or four years ago. that's effective message. people looking at their 401(k), tax reform. touting those issues specifically and it is an interesting cycle because of the way president trump is for. there were some districts where it's a positive spirit other ones where it's not so much a positive. pushing individual results for people and not putting too much into the social issues is going to be republican. >> before we leave, who do you think replaces paul ryan is speaker of the house.

>> good morning. the region continues to hold its breath awaiting military action by the united states and other countries in response to the reported chemical weapons attack in the town of dumas. the ap reported that this hour, citing the russian military that the syrian regime is now in full control of the previously rebel held towns in anticipation of an attack. there were reports of syrian military is relocating potential targets such as aircraft and unlike a year ago launching missile strikes, following the syrian gas attack, this time the coalition is going to be taking action. it seems increasingly likely the u.k. and france will take part if there is military action. quoted as saying that all indications are that president bashar al-assad were responsible for the use of chemical weapons and it cannot go unchallenged.

the syrian government has nothing to do with the alleged chemical attack and they are blaming it on the rescue group here. we are getting mixed messages out of russia. if there is a coordinated response by the west in syria, how do we expect russia to retaliate? >> this is one of the interesting points. the russians can the syrians and iranians actually all have different goals here. the russians don't share the goals of their allies. they keep inside and power come up a crisis coming in their region. they keep going that the correct economic deals. they are good here. assad wants all his territory back. that doesn't necessarily do anything for the russians. iranians when a dagger pointed at the heart of israel. so the russians here in a situation where their allies be more aggressive pushing and

matt is headed to capitol hill today. allies on this. how long will the market be watching this? >> this is doing things as they want to know when it's going to be interfering with supply chain and it's going to be causing conflicts. it rattles markets. it's going to be making goods march, commodities were expenses. it will be interfering with things. investors will be worried. gerri: markets headed or yesterday, possibly higher this morning. when you look at this, some of the concern yesterday was president trump is out in front of his own secretary of defense. how important is that issued a market? >> i think it is important. obviously what is happening in the middle east. markets are certainly going to be king on that. one thing people are talking about that they should be in

regards to that allies -- middle east with the with the rebels firing missiles at aramco facilities. that is a significant impact particularly if they end up damaging facilities and if the situation escalates. gerri: you know, we've been watching this decline in stock prices. the button oil we've experienced for so long with the crude prices here declining. now 53 million barrels above average versus 302 last year. when you look at this, where is this going? it is so important to all parts of the economy and certainly the markets. >> yeah, war is a drag on the economy overall. as we have conflict in the other countries, is going to be interfering with global distribution networks. sanctions against russia, trade work, all of this is not good

for distributing oil around the world and that will affect markets in a negative way. it will be tracking down. i get reminded of george washington's trade with all entanglements with none. i am just worried that we will get dragged down more and more the region. >> a lot of people say that the kind of trade tensions we are experiencing will end up being a tax on consumers of course. this isn't done yet. i want to turn to you as we talk about the fed and the likely impact of the rate hikes that are coming. we've been talking about june being the next week for fed hikes. clearly it could be early or getting what said in fed minutes. expectations we would've to 2%% inflation target sooner than expected. what do you see in your crystal ball for rate hikes? >> i wouldn't be surprised if it came earlier and up to 2% inflation number ended up being

conservative comments -- with oil prices continue to go higher. we have very, very low unemployment. we have a huge boost in federal spending and if oil prices go higher, that could be what takes it over to me the real inflation. i'm not talking about anything to get too worked up about. or anything about inflation with averages over 3% over the past hundred years, 2% is not that high. i would not be surprised at all if at the end of 2018 we look back and see the prices went up within 2%. gerri: a long way to go. thank you for coming on. appreciate your time. lauren: coming up, what happened after the yankees designated hitter got hit with this? jared max is warning up for that. we will see him in a few. both markets that flak today as
