the united states to announce additional sanctions on russia today for helping serious attack its own people with chemical weapons after a u.s.-led coalition launched more than 100 missiles against the assad regime in friday night. the president getting heat for treating the coordinated strike against syria were mission accomplished. the white house defended the president. >> the mission that the u.s. military and coalition forces that the u.k. and france went out on friday to do. they went under% met derek jeter is. that's what the president is referring to. train to the united states warning c-reactive is more military strikes. >> the president has made it very clear when it comes to weapons of mass destruction we have no tolerance for it. we are going to watch out for the best interest of the american people. he made a point and hopefully

last week oil prices have almost 9%. biggest gain in a .5 months. where do we stand right now? >> played now we are down a little bit of a relief rally on what really was viewed by most web traitors as a very successful mission. a lot of concern going into this weekend that the attacks would raise the possibility of escalation in the conflict. that did not happen up until this point. so we are selling because of worst-case scenarios that didn't happen. the market is not out of the woods yet. there is still the issue of more sanctions on russia. it could impact oil and that could of course get the market going once again. >> we have to do with russia and iran here. on friday, the iaea indicated the global oil supplies are dwindling the way they like them to an heading into the summer driving season in the u.s.

cheryl: another side effect of this is they are planning to impose sanctions on russia over use of chemical weapons in syria. nikki haley fan yesterday on "fox news sunday" that you can't take off the table more airstrikes down the line. how do you do as an investor? >> the risk to the market or the geopolitical risks. they're not corporate earnings, global growth, strength of the concern there. it is what happened in the headline. as an investor if you focus on strong fundamentals, you've got three pillars right there that you can hang your hat on as reasons to stay invested in your plan. geopolitical tensions will always be here and they serve more distraction than a guidepost right now. cheryl: the distraction that guidepost into overlap and that's when you get the volatility numbers we've seen. let's move on to other issues we are going to have. obviously watching what happens with the political side here at

home. michael cohen, donald trump's attorney trying to kind of squash some of this evidence. if that's something the markets watching? >> there was certainly think so. the markets will be definitely watching it. we talk about a chinese wall that's involved here where one side will see what the other side is doing. i come from the banking world, from wall street in the chinese wall doesn't work very well. investors are concerned one way or another this could affect cambridge the attorney-client privilege. that was certainly weigh on the market if in fact they left anything. cheryl: looking at the futures this morning. the dow, one point up over 100. in the last few moments of the show, you see a buildup in the numbers, the positive feeling that maybe the syrian situation isn't as dire as we are led to

believe. >> well, there is nothing new about donald trump in the crosshairs. so when the market takes a look away from the noise of its traction, they will seek attorneys. baker and strongest quarter in retail sales will be strong when they come out later. if you keep your eye on the underlying fundamentals of the washington noise aside, you have a better roadmap for investing. cheryl: i like that. to pick up on that point, the numbers coming out. netflix today. also jay and jay as well. what are you looking for? what's the biggest picture story made out of these numbers? >> a lot of bad news is in stock at this point. he saw that with jpmorgan on friday. coming into the number on friday, the estimates have gone parabolic. much the same for bank of america and goldman sachs. goldman sachs is the exception this time. i don't think people are really looking at the numbers.

the question is what was the message that was received? we know what we wanted to send, the assad responded with 28 airstrikes and heavy artillery in the very area where all these things took place. i'm not sure the message we want to be received has been received. the bigger question is then white. they respond militarily to a chemical weapons attack. those are big questions that need to be answered. >> you bring up a good point when there is potentially a chemical attack and makes you wonder what the redline is. listen to what u.s. ambassador nikki haley had to say. >> we have to be confident of the fact that we can allow the smallest use of chemical weapons. that's why you saw the president start this last weekend index fell 60 russian spies after the attack in salisbury. this very easily could have been in the united states for not smart and if we are not conscious of what is happening.

>> i'm kind of wondering what the redline is here. as a chemical weapons when there's video of the attack, conventional weapons, what is it? >> i interpret that to mean a redline is going to use chemical on a small scale without some type of response. it's very vague as to what that is. it might be sanctions are some small measure. it's not a commitment that every time someone uses chemical weapons we have to go to war and bomb them. ash is not how i'm interpreting it. each situation is different so i don't feel like were getting pushed into a corner for this route for this rude result in endless military conflict because the fact of the matter is it's pretty easy to make chemical weapons if you have a country and rogue states are going to do that regularly. we should also talk about biological weapons even worse than relatively easy to produce. >> colonel davis, we think we know the instinct of the president here because before he

did say he wanted to pull out of syria and take out two dozen u.s. troops and pull them out. things have certainly changed. what is the strategy now? >> i hope he continues that the strategy because those troops on the ground saddle us with enormous strategic risk because of the russian armed forces commiserated armed forces, iranian code forces. possible clashes with the road ally in turkey. we give very little. in fact, we get no strategic benefit from having our troops there and with plenty of strategic assets to keep our interest safe in the region. the troops to help us with their entries, but it does put a lot of stress and risk for us. i hope the president continues what he says and removes those troops in the near future. lauren: we are expecting new sanctions to be announced today. additional sanctions against russia. how do you expect russia to retaliate here? >> with the normal drama. every time there's a

disagreement figure that dramatic reaction. as a result of the world war iii they always predicting. general mattis in the u.s. military killed a whole bunch of russians not that long ago in syria as they approached the forces we are training in u.s. forces on the ground involved in that area. we heard similar rhetoric after the first strike on the syrian airbase following a chemical attack and nothing happened and the russians left the area. so i see the same pattern happening over and over again. as much as i would love to be out of syria go anywhere in the world, keep in mind it's not just about bases in syria. assad which is iran and hezbollah, countless other rebels of the international g.i. w.'s the territory to strike at us and the best thing they have going is the alliance of kurds, arabs and christians that we're trying to train. you've got to have locals on the ground that will fight for you so you don't have to.
