lou: gina loudon, charlie hurt, thank you for joining us. be sure to tune into the fox news channel and "tucker carlson." kennedy: spygate could be one of the biggest scandals in history, that according to president trump who upped the ante with the justice department. it does not appear he plans to back down anytime soon. the president has been pushing the story that the fbi had a confidential informant inside the campaign spying on him for political purposes. today on the white house lawn he put them all on notice. president trump: everybody wants this solved. but a lot of bad things have
8:01 pm
happened. we call it spygate. i want total transparency. you have to have transparency. even they probably want transparency. this is -- this super creeds republicans and democrats. what i want from rod and the fbi and every one is transparency. kennedy: trey gowdy and devin nunes are meeting with the fbi and the department of justice. they did not invite any democrats which is upsetting chuck schumer and nancy pelosi. is the president right to be railing against the deep state and should tomorrow's meetings involve democrats? joining me, ron desantis, he's also running for governor in the

sunshine state. let's talk about this. there are a lot of elements to the story that may or may not be true. it's irresponsible to operate that we know there was a politically motivated spy operating within the trump presidential campaign. what do we know for certain and what about that is most of troubling to you. >> i think what we know is whatever this informant did, and he over wasly did something, we'll get the facts on that. if there was reason to believe there was a problem with russian influence in trump's campaign. what should the fbi, the cia or any of these agencies have done? they should have briefed the campaign and said we are worried about carter page or papadopoulos. but they never did that. if you were just as clapper said, we were spying but we were
8:03 pm
spying on the russians, then you should have gone to the campaign so they could have taken defensive measures. the fact that they didn't leads me to believe they were actually interested in hoping there was something wrong with the campaign so they can use that. kennedy: not to be a conspiracy theorist, but to read some of the strzok and page texts. that might be the understand policies. it's difficult to explain. you are an agnostic supporter of the rule of law and the constitution. meaning you are not swayed either side politically. you want to make sure our elections are sacred and they are not infiltrated by russians or any other nefarious actors. wouldn't you make certain if there were vulnerable people within a campaign who were contacted by people who were interested in sowing chaos and
8:04 pm
disdmoard this country. wouldn't you make sure someone knew about that? they can take those people off the campaign or make sure there was extra security cyber and otherwise measures put in place to protect the campaign and the candidate? >> of course you would. loretta lynch, comey, they all decided. this was very early on. much earlier than late july when the supposed papadopoulos thing started crossfire hurricane. this was in the early spring of 2016. before trump was even officially the nominee. they chose to keep him in the dark. if you look at what this informant is alleged to have done. i was clearly trying to manufacture contacts by bringing papadopoulos over to london and manufacturing contacts with carter page. there is a lot of stuff that's very fishy. that's why i agree with the president.

full transparency, put the information out there and let the american people decide. i don't want our tax dollars paying for somebody to basically keep tabs on an opposition party's campaign when there was no evidence of wrongdoing. kennedy: let's talk about the meeting. it's wise to have two separate briefings. why not have a congressional democrat in the meeting in the first place. talk about redundancy and wasting time. >> i'm fine. i want the american people, american and -- republican and democrat. kennedy: adam schiff isn't going to be any less of a blowhard if he's briefed later. lay the card out on the table
8:06 pm
for the same people at the same time. i think i speak for the american people when i say we are sick of oddities. >> the fbi and the doj leadership, they need to level with the congress. when nunes started to pursue this angle they said it would kill national security. but who leaked it to the "new york times" and "washington post"? they were people in those agencies. the house intel didn't even have access to that information. kennedy: i will have a problem with devin nunes for a long time because he knew about these abuses before he pushed for more robust spying, the spy tools that created and exacerbated the problems we are seeing right now. i hope you and your colleagues make sure that power is kept in
8:07 pm
check so this doesn't happen to any more presidential candidates. i don't care what party they are from. another way to do that is to hold people accountable to who abuse their positions and violated the law. that's why i and my colleagues have called for a special counsel to deal with the fisa abuse and deal with any improprieties involving launching an investigation on trump. if no one * is eld accountable -- kennedy: i want to hold people accountable who give people like that money and power. those are people in your position. you are not governor yet, you are still a congressman. and you still have a great responsibility to honor and uphold the constitution and i believe that you and your fellow stewards have in that regard let us down. i hope we remedy this in the

future so we are done with these political arguments. i do want to thank you for your time. the president also tweeted today, quote, look how things turned around on the criminal deep state. they go after phoney collusion with russia and get caught in a stage in spy scandal the likes of which there is country may never have seen before. what goes around, comes around. is spygate going to turn into a bigger issue than the russia investigation? kat timpf is here, along with robby soave, and lisa depasquale. we have some areas that if all of these things are proven true, they could be very bad. other things that have not been proven true so far are very
8:09 pm
boring. >> this is all very crazy. it's something different every day. obviously that's a huge deal. it doesn't discredit the entire russia investigation. i think that investigation needs to be completed and brought to its full conclusion. i want to see all the things investigated. we don't know anything now for sure. right now there is so much confusion and a lot of crazy talk all over the place. kennedy: it's a little disingenuous when republicans talk about sp spygate and the pr these institutions have to spy on americans. >> the apparatus of law enforcement, the fbi of spying on people has gotten more powerful and violating of our civil liberties over the years. it's not surprising, i don't think, that it can be turned on people of for clear partisan
8:10 pm
purposes. i find this new wrinkle interesting. i don't know if there is enough yet to suggest it's as serious a conspiracy as the president thinks it is. it's notable to me this character was involved in some possible wrongdoing in the 1980 kind of thing. carter reagan. a different carter. maybe that's the kind of guy you use for this kind of thing. kennedy: were there the same type of informants in the hillary clinton campaign? >> if this was to protect donald trump, where is the list of democrats they were also protecting. you would think they would want to protect their own. kennedy: if they are concerned about national security why would you just look at one party. it was the fbi that told the dnc their servers were flimsy.
8:11 pm
>> even though they have this informant who doesn't exist, we still don't have any more information than we had before. but this reminds me of 2008 when back barr ran against the patriot act when he said sure it's fine now. but what if hillary clinton was president. i said he has a point. and here we are. kennedy: former director of national intelligence. i cannot stand this guy. he has been making the rounds promoting his new book. he now says he has no doubt the russians swung the 2016 election for the president. >> consider the fact that the election was less than 80,000 votes in three key states.
8:12 pm
the russians started it. it stretches logic to me that it didn't have a human impact on the election. kennedy: he's like a clam without a shell. while the intelligence community did conclude russians tried to sway the election. they did not conclude they were successful. why is one of obama's top intelligence officials so sure they did. and if they were so sure about it. why did he wait and write a book? he doesn't give any evidence that the russians did in fact situate elections. he's just saying that they did. if they were so worried about the russians trying to sway the election. they didn't do enough to stop that if that happened. though he's not saying how it happened. >> i gives no evidence. it's just his word. his word means nothing to me. when he was asked in 2013 if nsa
8:13 pm
was spying on americans he said no. and he lied. i don't know how he can weigh in on these issues when he has been proven to be a liar. what he has to say means nothing to me. kennedy: i still go back to this looks like an understand policy. if russians were speaking to people who are vulnerable and dumb and they tried to sway the election and they didn't do anything about it. he's saying russia is successful, we did a bad job. why should he be rewarded with my vote. >> like they made facebook groups that changed people's mind? voters suede the election by voting for trump. kennedy: did they hack into vote magazines in cities and counties
8:14 pm
where they have those and alter the outcome? because that's a serious charge. >> the election was close enough that everyone is going to be able to claim their pet issue is what caused the small number of voters. that's your personal issue. kennedy: grind that into a no, robby. james clapper, do you know, love and trust him? >> if i few just mentioning russia in a book would get you on tv i would have done it. kennedy: they saw comey's book was selling well. someone approached him and said you can fart out 200 pages and we'll edit it and you are good to go. here is $500 million.
